Getting Tired of Gardening
« on: December 15, 2009, 10:19:13 PM »
My sim is a level 10 gardener and is able to grow the best of everything...but ya know, it takes up SO much time! I've gotten to where I love taking her on vacation simply because she doesn't have to tend garden for 12 hours out of the day! I even cut back on the size of the garden and that helped a little. Before, she had 4 plants each of meloire, renoit, cherimola, argolina?? (can't remember what it's called) 2 flame fruits, 2 apple trees, 1 pomegranate, 1 lime, 1 money, 1 life bush, 1 omni bush, and 1 tomato plant and she would get to end of the garden tending and the first plants would already be starting to turn brown!! Then she'd have to start all over again! It was an all day affair! She's now cut back on the size of the garden and only has 1 each of the plants, but it still takes a lot of time out of the day. I did have an onion, garlic, potato, cherries, and watermelon, but those have since died and I didn't replant them.

As the plants are dying now....I'm just having her dispose of them and not re-plant. I'm thinking of getting rid of the garden all together. She can make plenty of money on her book royalties, fishing, and gems. Plus, she still has hundreds of fruits and veggies in her inventory that will last her awhile.

Does anyone have a full plant list? It's showing that I've only planted 52% of what's available and I really thought I had gotten everything. Other than that, I think she's finished all the individual challenges within gardening and I thought that would make the plants last longer, but it hasn't.

Yeah the garden takes a lot of time to care for...Carl has a list in his guide of all the plants here:

Do you mean they turn brown from wilting and need water?  If that's the case, you should get sprinklers.  They save a huge amount of gardening time because there's no hand watering.  You can find them in Buy Mode under the Outdoors tab, I believe on the Outdoor Activities icon.  Another idea is to have any children start to garden when they become teenagers.  It's much better when there's more help, even if they just harvest.

I agree that gardening is incredibly time consuming. Pam is spot-on with the sprinkler recommendation. The Auto Water upgrade gets my vote for the best upgrade in the game along with the Speaker Improvement one.

You know the Speedy Cleaner reward? I've often wished for a faster gardening reward. That would be so cool to be able to garden faster. I would definitely plop down 20-30k Happiness points for faster gardening.

Thanks! I had totally forgotten about the sprinklers! I'll get one of those and see if that cuts down on her gardening time.

You can delete the plants in Buy mode so your Sim doesn't need to spend time doing that.

I guess, except I don't quite see why it's neccessary. Is there some disadvantage to just leaving the sprinklers on all the time that I haven't noticed?

No. Other than it looks kind of stupid. Then again, I've definitely warmed up to the "bear in the woods" no-house method of living too and I thought I'd never do that because that looks stupid too.
