What goes in your basement?
« on: January 25, 2011, 10:32:23 AM »
As the topic says, what goes in your basement? If you have one, I would like to know about it.
What it looks like? What you have kept there? How much you use it?
If you have any screenshot, post it here.

For my part, I have a small basement room. It is made completely of masonry, including both walls and floor. It has dim and not much lightning. I always have some extra/unused things, so I keep them in the basement. I also keep my gym equipment down there. There are many things down there, like my inventing platform, my old tattooing machine, my generations old painting stand, etc. I also have a reserved bed and a music system there. Most of my sims rarely bother to go there, except a young boy and his sister. This boy mostly throws parties, so I keep a TV and a fridge there. In a corner, there is also a bookshelf, so that no one turns the house upside down just to find a book. His sister goes there when she washes clothes, or just when she wants to be alone.

I like to keep a Styling Station down there. I can't stand sims with ugly clothing! ;)
Oh, and I keep sims down there too.

I find it useful to construct a 2x2 "closet space," and fill it with skeletons.  ;D

In all seriousness I think the basement space is an optimal location for a series of different rooms, such as the nectary/cellar, laundry room and crafting station.  If the floor above has a hot tub, I'll likely frame the bed, frame, and piping of it in a room with corrugated metal walls and floors, and call it the utility room.  Sometimes I'll put the inventions table or other items in here for aesthetic and function.

I also like throwing together man caves, private museums, and laboratories in my basement.  Anything with a distinguished subterranean feel!

Oh, sweet irony, deliver me from coincidence.

Please feel free to utilize any of my builds in any of your stories and so forth.

Oh, and I forgot to tell you that my basement isn't that good at night. It is already horrible at daytime with it's stone walls and stone floor. I turn off the lights of the basement at night. It was previously a good and enlightened workshop of my sim, William Arcon's great grandfather. Time machine is still kept there, but it is like a ghost-house.

William's girlfriend, Serina has fainted there 5-10 times. She comes every week to wohoo with him, but William is brave, and she is coward.

I've planted 2-3 graves there, who give out ghosts every night to watch the great wohoo.

Nice topic. Well, normally I will leave my kidnapped people in the basement but for my sims that will be nectar (lowest basement) and all stuff factory like nectar machines, crafting tables esentially and inventing tables. Sometimes my sims also leave other collectibles underground, for it takes up too much space above ground.
To much the basement still takes up ram memory when I play above ground cause otherwise the game would be much faster.

Basement is a really good place to keep your collectibles. Though they are not so secured there. The opening to my basement is just without door, and it's outside and behind the house, so it's hard to keep watch on it.

Not so secured? You've got burglers visiting your lot?

Well, I have made some enemies, who were burglars. Now they pay a visit to me once every 5-7 days and steal some minor things like a wall painting, etc. To cover my losses, fortunately I have got a brave and athletic sim who has mastered the athletic skill. I have all the burglars who are found lurking near the house or in public, beaten 5-6 times.

All pretty much what everyone else has said.

I like creating separate themed rooms to display the Adventures collections, and hiding the ugly stuff like Invention workbench, Nectar maker [with a nice storage area for Nectar racks, of course], Teleporter, Time Machine, Body Re-shaper ...  A shower and toilet saves time, and a couple of reconstructed sarcophagi in the Egyptian Room solves the sleeping problem!

I have [at least, I hope I still have] a house with 2 basement levels ... people get lost down there!!  I'll try to remember to take a few screenshots.

Maybe putting a board showing the map would help them. But that is impossible, so getting rid of people is good down there.

BTW, how many of you use the basement as a prison? I do.

I tried an experiment. I extended my basement, and made a room there. Then I invited my sim's girlfriend, grouped my sim with her, and went down in that room.

I locked up that sim down in the basement for 3 sim days. Only washbasin and a toilet (which i deleted immediately) was there. I didn't bother to look at the girl who was locked up. To help her, I put the cheapest tub there. She sat on it, and read book she had in her inventory. She kept brushing, brushing, brushing, and brushing. Really, the washbasin was completely black with dirt.

She slept on the floor, or its better to say that she was unconscious. I released her after 3 days, fed her a good meal.

In this case a butler would also do very well. A brave one, that's said. But you've got athletic sims so you're fine now. What you could do is building a sweet nice prisson in one of your basements? ;)

Right now, I have all my dynasty, except the current parents, in a very large basement, fully equipped with small kitchen and everything else that a sim needs.  It is very large, right now, six bedrooms, a smaller museum for extra sculptures, a nectar making room, foosball, dance floor and display tables. Probably even more stuff that I forgot, lol. :)

Gotta love those basements.

6 bedrooms!!!! :o

I have built one, but is like a  stone cell. My house is crooked and old, a small wooden cottage on the hill in Twinbrook, and I didn't want to make it too modern, so it was hard to put a small stone basement.

I kept a big collected Emerald in the cell. When a burglar came down, and went in the room to steal the Emerald, I moved the diamond somewhere else, and locked up the door. He is currently in the cell, shouting like mad people and is given food every 2 days. Note: He is my neighbour who became a burglar. He is also a celebrity.

Right now my inventor's house has a nice little laboratory under the foundation with a computer and inventing table. I've got glass cubicles and secret rooms with little trinkets in them, so it's pretty fun. The best part of the room though is the Simbot Recharging Station that I rigged up with the World Adventures tools, so I just get my Simbot to stand above a hidden electricity trap while the inventor triggers the switch to activate it. As for other buildings, I built a (pretty bad) vampire lounge and put a dungeon under it just for kicks. I even included a dining room with a skeleton sprawled across the table. It's always fun putting tombs in public areas around the town, and basements are the best way to do it because you can't see them from the outside.
