I don't use basements for living. I like when my Sims live on ground. The main aspect of the basements for me is nectar making. I usually put my collectibles underground or too high on ground levels. Burglars don't do visits to my Sims as much lately, it's because of the lucky trait. So that's not a problem for me. Basements were great additions to the game, as it makes possible having up to 8 levels - ground & underground ;-)

I just added the seventh bedroom.  I make it pretty bright and colorful and put that mirror that looks like a window in their room and put actual windows so they can see out in the main hallway and basement.  I also put curtains up, so it actually looks pretty cool. I am going to post some screenshots in my dynasty thread pretty soon.  I love basements.  They are what you make them, I suppose. :)

My basements have served many purposes over many sim lifetimes.  Secret forgotten laboratories, underground hot tubs, nectar making & storing facilities, vampire lairs, guest rooms, Gyms, Dojo, Collection storage, Pool View Lounges, laundry rooms.

A prison is something I kepe thinking about doing but hadn't done yet what's the best way to get your victims into their cell?

You could always use move object on cheat to move sims around.  To get a bunch of sims together at the same time for pictures, that is a good way to do it or put them in a locked room or cell. :)

Well, I deleted the prison room as it was consuming space. My basement is now again Dexter's Laboratory. :)

I have a room with a huge window, a basin, and a toilet. I trap somebody down there and keep it as a pet by feeding it every now and then some leftovers or some rotten food. I have a window so my little sims can be entertained.  ;D

After reading all the sadistic replies, I can see that all of us want just 1 thing: PETS!!! Well, maybe this is off topic...

I have heard that Sims 2 had pets. Is it true?

Sims 2 even had an expansion pack called The Sims 2 Pets! It was all about animals - you could own dogs, cats, horses, etc. and I'm a proud owner of it! Got it since 2006-07. But though there are rumors on the net that it's the next expansion pack for Sims 3, I don't think EA is going to release it any time soon. Maybe I'm wrong...

We need TS3 Pets. Now.

Are you sure there were horses in TS2? I only remember dogs, cats, guinea pigs and parrots. Oh the nostalgia.

OMG horses!! Can we ride them? I wanted to make a medieval rider in the town, and use a horse to ride instead a car. ;D

I know pets and animals are really awesome subjects to talk about, we really need to have sims 'basements' as the major subject for this topic. So please stay ontopic here. ;)

Ok. In my basement, I keep a library, with nectar thingies, invention table, service awards (ambitions) and some career rewards, and another room with all the crazy stuff; Moodlet Manager, Body Shaper, Map to the Stars, one of each metal in big bars, time machine, diving well, sarcophagus, spirit collection,  eyes of horus, spirit finder thing, food replicator, chest with all relic collection objects, Large Spire Cut Soulpeace, 2 XL display cases with stuff on them and space enough for every incoming weird-crazy-paranormal-device-shingamadoozle from other expansion packs.

There were no horses. You could download horses, but it was risky and horses didn't gallop - they glided across the ground.  :-\

Back to topic.

Well, lately my sim captured on of the Curios's (I think the mom) in my sim's house. I fed her a plate of rotten hot dogs so far, since my sim forgot to put it in the fridge. Her "pet" was very lucky indeed, though. I let her go after I had a party and I accidently invited the whole Curios household...whoops.

P.S. Also, Amber's little pet said "she had to go soon" while she was inside her cell. I nearly fell off my chair laughing.

I'm sorry for bringing up the topic about pets in the first place since I called my kidnapped lady a pet.

I personally think keeping anybody other than vampires as prisoners for entertainment is just wrong.  Amusing, but wrong. lol  Maybe because I haven't tried it yet!

My basements are simply wonderful, in my opinion.  I use above ground pools with windows in them to bring "daylight" down into the first, (and sometimes second), level of my basements.  I use mirrors that look like windows with drapes around them to further the illusion that you really aren't under the ground.  I have a house in our Swap Shop that has four floors of living quarters under ground as well as four above ground.  I'm particularly fond of that concept though I think it needs some improvement in aesthetic appeal, at least on the upper floors.  I plant gardens under ground, (thank you move objects on!), and keep my basements as well lit and decorated as my above ground rooms.  I just hate, dark, gloomy, creepy places so that's partly why.  I do think I might just try a room for my kidnapped vampires in the hopes they will die, Die, DIE!  Vampires are just not for everyone and I resent the fact that my perfectly wonderful townies and npc's can turn into the nasty things without my say so, so perhaps a basement vampire morgue would be just the ticket for me.  I never have burglars in my basements but that's probably because of how many burglar alarms I have everywhere and because I lock everything up to only admit my household.  I also am not fond of paparazzi and this keeps them off my property!  Hmmm, maybe a separate cell for paparazzi.  Nice idea!
What?  Grannies can't play games?
I speak perfect Nooblik, (and some Simlish)!
