Sims 2 Legacy Collection
« on: February 06, 2025, 06:41:03 AM »
Hello again!

Been a while since I've posted, but I loved playing/creating for the Sims 2 and have posted/asked here in the past if others were still playing it (although Sims 3 will always be my fave).  I have all my old Sims 2 stuff on disc, but I haven't ever tried to install it or get it to work on Windows 10 or later, and unfortunately, the updated/re-release through Steam will apparently not update anything installed from the disc.  I was hoping that wasn't the case, but given the wide spread changes to their optimization, I'd be forced to re-purchase (although they claim that old saves and all the old CC will incorporate with the newer version just fine).

I was wondering if anyone had jumped on the Sims 2 Legacy Collection on sale through Steam, and/or if they were experiencing any issues.  I noted some of the posts/comments over there that they were experiencing issues with trying to run it on newer systems, in spite of the fact that the game's re-release was focused on the engine's update and ability to optimize, particularly when it comes to the graphics and wide screens.

(And, while not related, I just wanted to add that I still LOVE this forum, and that there's still some posting.)

You are correct the game would need to be repurchased via Steam and does have some patches that fix some issues, however not all.

It seems like the game itself was un-touched. As in the regular Sims 2 bugs are there from what I understand.

I highly recommend watching LGR's video about the collection.

We haven't purchased either of the Steam Sims 1 or Sims 2 releases at this point. We're still on the fence and keep checking back in with the Steam forums looking for reports of any issues. Before we commit to purchasing or not.

Thanks very much for the reply, MrsFlynn...and really great to see you're still actively addressing questions.  You're seriously a Sims powerhouse when it comes to knowing your stuff!

And yes, I'm very much on the fence and worried about how ugly it would get to download something 'different' all over again....probably from my paranoia that I'd be stuck in another endless loop of fixes.  TYVMEA.

I'll take a look at the video, and likely hold out until I hear more solid responses from others.  Unfortunately, there's no way to know who would be effected by some issues, when some wouldn't be effected at all (at least if we go by what some posted to the Steam reviews).  There's a whole host of randoms when it comes to individual systems.

Thanks again,

You're welcome!! And Thank you for the compliment. :)

I took a peeksee at the discussion forum over on Steam and it looks like there have been some updates. Though like you said, no telling what may work or not work. So waiting awhile to make a decision might be just the way to go. lol
