Love this.
In my 18 years playing the Sims 1,2,3, and now 4, I have never felt the need to make a Simself. But for this pack, I have made myself -- an overweight elder with gray-brown hair and glasses. She is trying to complete her Soul's Journey so as to be able to experience rebirth when she dies. Earning Satisfaction points is what accomplishes this -- by completing aspiration tasks, by satisfying wants -- including those generated by a tarot reading, and by completing items on her bucket list.
If your interest in the Sims has diminished over the years, this is the expansion pack that will revitalize it. There are some things that you will probably want to do only once -- work as a Grimintern or complete the Tarot card collection. Although both of these are fun (I haven't tried the career yet, but it looks like fun), they probably won't be replayable. But completing a Soul's Journey, making a bucket list, writing a will, and having a funeral should enhance any legacy play.
The daily tarot reading and the bucket list provide the element of randomness that has been missing from the Wants system. With regard to the bucket list, I would recommend working on only one item at a time. You can scrap your list, but there's no way to scrap an individual item. Some of the items on the bucket list will be long-term (reach level 10 in writing and complete a best-seller), and some can be done in a day or less. The tarot card reading will give your Sim a want in the 3rd spot, where things like "get a drink" show up when your Sim is at a bar. There are 2 possibilities on each card right side up and 2 on each card reversed, for a total of 104 different wants overall that can be generated.
Ravenwood is beautiful, and CAS and Build/Buy both have lovely items. I don't especially like the hair, but that's a minor point. Overall, this is a must-have pack for me, like Growing Together and Seasons.
Edited to add: One flaw -- it's too easy to complete the Soul's Journey. My elder Sim did it in 6 days, and could have finished sooner if she'd skipped around in her aspirations.
