Horse Ranch EP announced
« on: June 22, 2023, 02:56:03 PM »
Rumors and leaks have been swirling around for a while now, but it's official.  Horse Ranch is coming July 20th.
Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GaUZ5ph7qD4

Horses, goats, sheep, line dancing, nectar making.
And I hope the Sam Elliot looking sim is an NPC you get to meet!

Reading the trailer blog and watching rhw trailer makes this pack feel very shallow. We have two south western US desert worlds already. The mini sheep and goats looks like a cats and dogs reskin. Line dancing looks cool but limited to one k8nd of game play. Leaving horses as the big selling point. Just feels shallow.

That said I am excited. Finally some masculine jeans that aren't city jeans. I been wanting them from day one. Now if we can get some loose fitting t-shirts for men, maybe I could build me in the game.

I always love me a new world, though I initially thought the trailer was shot in Strangerville.
And the brewing and aging of nectar sound fantastic.  But my sims and I have no interest in horses, so I won't be pre-ordering.
In a blog article, there was mention of the pack focusing on Native American culture, but the trailer didn't show that.
So far, I'm feeling very lukewarm about Horse Ranch...

So far it doesn't seem there isn't much excitement. Nectar and masculine jeans seem are the people here are have listed they are looking forward to. What features have you excited? My interest so far is masculine jeans. Sad I will have to spend $40 to get something that should have been base game. Yes I am spending $40 for digital jeans.

line dancing horses, goats and sheep do it for me ... but why not the dogs and cats as well?

And with apologies to the late great Tina Turner ...

Like @oshizu said, there was a blog article talking about Native American content.  But they've also leaked all the CAS and BB items, and if anything in there is Native American, they're going to have to point it out and explain what's Native about it.  But again, maybe some items will have swatches that make it much more obvious.

@Brian_Z  well I live in a state with a great deal of native American reservations and most of them were blue jeans. There is a pair of masculine jeans in this pack. Could this be qhat they are talking about? LOL.

Lol yeah it's not like Indians dress any different from anyone else, most of the time.  You're only going to see buckskin and headdresses for special occasions.  But they did go out of their way to tell us about Native themed items, and the closest thing in there was a horse blanket.

Yeah the ones I know dress like rural Utah residents. Well unless their selling stuff to tourists. Then you may see them put on some fine beadwork jewelry. Your right the Native American stuff is mostly reserved for Tribal events, toueists, and the occasional movie or TV show, not daily wear.

I just watched the livestream.  https://www.youtube.com/live/AuFlrvrl3TY?feature=share

It felt a bit light on game play to be honest. The world looked great but a bit too movie west to me. It is clear if horses aren't your jam this pack isn't offering much else at least not much shown on the the livestream. That said I am still getting it. I need the masculine jeans. Also the mini goats look fun. Sad they seem to need Cottage Living to be fully functional. I wonder if the ranch hand will take care of the chickens lamas cows, cats and dogs of past expansion packs or just the ones for this pack? If so that is a big plus.

Anyway what is your thoughts on the live stream?

There's a lot of towns that go for the Hollywood Western look for their downtown area on purpose, so that part isn't unrealistic.  The streets really ought to be paved though.  And you won't see chaps very often.  Those are a practical, not very comfortable accessory worn when a rider expects to pass through a lot of brush, and I didn't see any bushwhacking opportunities in the riding.  But for the most part, yes, people in the equestrian community really dress like that.
I don't like that the horses will be household members.  Two horses, a Border Collie or Aussie to keep those sheep and goats in line, what farm is complete without cats... um, there's no room for having kids now!  Those cheats/mods for overstuffed households cause a lot of problems if you try to go to CAS.
I get the impression the general store is just a kiosk?  And I wish they had gotten into town early enough to show the equestrian center properly.
Maybe the stuff that was closed when they got into town, will flesh out the pack better.  It does seem kind of light on gameplay.  But I do like the horses, the Western theme, and the look of the new world.  I feel like it's going to be a bit weak as an overall pack, but my new favorite place to live.

It looks like a well-made pack, and I think the horses will be fabulous.
But I'm going to give it a miss for a while. I never did much with horses in TS3 -- I think one family in my Townie Deca Dynasty had a horse, but that was it. I still have much to explore in Cottage Living, High School Years, and Growing Together.
I am happy for everyone who wanted horses, though. I just don't expect to incorporate them into my style of play.

@Brian_Z
LOL, you just had to go and write that, didn't you?
I'm completely uninterested in the horses but am highly fascinated by nectar brewing.
But more than that, I ALWAYS love me a new world. *sighs
If I end up getting Horse Ranch, it will be because of the above comment of yours. LOL
