Collection Agency Showdown

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Your Sim is the CEO of a large collection agency and has accepted the challenge with other rival agencies to prove who can amass the most significant Collection Journal score. But you'd better collect your thoughts and get a solid game plan because you only have two weeks.

Challenge Rules
  • Remember, the General Rules apply to all Tournament challenges. Exceptions may be noted below.
  • In CAS (no Story Mode), create 1 Young Adult Sim (any life state).
  • No additions to the household but moving is allowed.
  • Collectibles do not have to be kept.  Scoring will be based on what registers in the Collections Journal.
  • This challenge concludes at the end of 2 Sim weeks (Week 3, Day 1, 8:00 AM).

Scoring
At Week 3, Day 1, 8:00 AM, pause your game, and open the Collections Journal.

Use this Spreadsheet to calculate your score. From the top of the page, enter the number of collections found in the spreadsheet.
Also, enter the number of collections completed in the spreadsheet.
Add the number of items collected to the spreadsheet for each collection shown.

Scoring Calculation:
Base Multiplier: + 1.00
Collections Completed: + 1.00
Collections Found: x .02
Total unique items collected

Here's an example:

Collections Found: 4/32 = 4 collections found
Collections Completed: 2/32 = 2 collection complete
Collections Multiplier: (1+(4*.02)+2) = 3.08 CM

Fish: 22/22 +30 = 52 unique fish collected (22+30)
Gardening: 32/32 +54 = 86 unique plants collected (32+54)
Elements: 1/15 = 1 unique element found
Frogs: 2/25 = 2 unique frogs found
Unique Collectibles Found: (52+86+1+2) = 141

The spreadsheet will calculate the scores as (# Unique Items (141)) x (1.00 + (4 x.02) + 2.00 = 3.08) = final score (141 unique items x 3.08 CM = 434.28)

Note: Have fun and give your collection agency a name; we'll add it to the leaderboard. :)

A Few Additional Specifics:
The team does not want to edit and change the ruleset once this event goes live, but we may have to. If an exploit is brought to our attention or we discover something else, we may ask affected players to redo their effort.

If you have questions and need clarifications, ask away — you can either post your questions in this thread, or if you feel a question might reveal a particular strategy you are considering, then feel free to PM the team. Choose the My Messages tab > Send Message > Send to Group (show membergroups) > Check the Challenge Board Moderator group.

The winner will be announced the Monday following the closing date below. Once the event has closed, everyone is encouraged to discuss how they approached the event, and the winner is expected to do so in detail.

are the completed collections included in the collections found multiplier as well as the completed multiplier?

Yes, the number of complete collections is included in both calculations.

This challenge goes live Monday morning, so please look at the rule set one last time to get your bearings before starting. Have a good weekend, everyone. :)

Just to be sure I  understand correctly: do we count each collection piece found, even in duplicate?

Teresa can verify (this is her event), but you're entering numbers directly from the notebook. Does the notebook track duplicates?

No it is unique items so if the collection journal says you have found 4 frogs, that is what you would count.  Duplicates aren't counted in the journal.

OK! Thank you @Metropolis Man and @Teresa .
I was not sure because of the example with the fish and gardening collection that says 22+30 and 32+54. I didn't know it was possible to have such big additions to the collections in the notebook  :)

That is because of how the journal counts items from later collections.

In the image below, the way Gardening is counted as 32/32 +19.  That means there are a total of 51 unique items being counted by the journal.

Death?

Beware of the Simmies vending machine!

What if your Sim dies before Week 3 Day 1 at 8:00 am?  My sim died trying to shake Simmies out of the vending machine when it fell on her on the second Saturday around 10 pm.  Can I count where I was? (I paused the game and got it all down before my sim drew her last breath.)  Or do I not finish?

It's a fine ending to my first challenge.  LOL!

The other team members can weigh in, but in my opinion, you're fine. The rules do not state have to play until the end, so go ahead and post your score for now.

EDIT: @mismck and @Teresa both weighed in and agree that death is not the end, so go ahead and post your score. By the way, welcome to the forum, and thank you for participating. :)

Collections by Callie finished with a collection multiplier of 3.26, 169 unique collectibles found for a final score of 550.94.

I think not too shabby for my first challenge and the fact that Callie died via vending machine.
