Error While Loading - Security Certificate?
« on: May 17, 2023, 08:26:16 PM »
I'm not sure if it's the launcher or an EA app issue conflicting with Origin, I updated the EA app this morning, and then tried to launch my game this evening while offline, launcher crashed, so I deleted cache and temp files and the missingdeps.idx which fixed it before, launcher crashed again, so I connected to the internet, updated the EA app, and then launched the game again, and it said was having issues with the security certificate and did I want to proceed? I clicked yes and it froze the launcher, so I closed it and cleared my IE cache and cookies and then removed the dcc.ent file as that was recommended on another forum and now I'm getting this? and it also said unable to connect to Origin. Corrupted launcher maybe? If I didn't need the EA app to buy Sim points to get the last of the store content I would just get rid of it or should I just uninstall Origin completely? I also still have content to install otherwise I would just bypass the launcher completely. I did get my game to load but this is getting annoying.

If you haven't, you may want to make sure Sims 3 and it's launcher isn't being blocked by your antivirus program. If it's not Windows Security, please search on how to white list the game and it's launcher.

Add an exclusion to Windows Security
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/add-an-exclusion-to-windows-security-811816c0-4dfd-af4a-47e4-c301afe13b26

It's okay to fully uninstall Origin.

Another tip you can try is to create a new Sims 3 folder to see if that helps the launcher behave better.

To create a new Sims 3 folder, go to: (\Documents\Electronic Arts) - right-click on the Sims 3 folder and select Rename. I usually rename it something like Sims3-Old or Sims3-Bkup. Everything is safe in your old Sims 3 folder.

Launch the game and exit it so it creates a new folder.

Open the launcher to see if it's working better.

If all is good in the new folder, it might be something in your old folder that got corrupted. You can then start copying files/folders over from your old folder to the new one.

If you need help in knowing what to add, see the post linked below:

I'm thinking something got corrupted, as I uninstalled and re-installed Sims 3 Seasons (as I noticed the missingdeps.idx had not come back on its own) with my internet unplugged and my anti-virus turned off (I use microsoft security essentials) and launched the launcher, now it has a red x through it and half of it is missing-but I can still play the game and install and un-install content-I'm going to try and yank the old electronic arts folder to the desktop and re-launch the launcher and see if that fixes it-I just have a lot of content to re-install when I do that but I've been meaning to do it for awhile anyway.

Edit: and as soon as I did that, the launcher is coming up just fine-so it definitely sounds like I have a corrupted cc or mod somewhere. Oh well....

Before doing any troubleshooting, please backup or rename your Sims 3 folder (\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3) so your saves, mods, cc and other Sims 3 files will be safe. You can delete the backup after testing is done or move it to a usb drive, external drive or other back up media.

Here's some troubleshooting tips...

If you're having issues with any .Sims3Pack files not working correctly, leave out the DCCache folder.  Reinstall any .sims3Pack files you have. This will help the game create new files for the installed content in the DCCache folder.

If you don't, you may run into the same issue of the store or custom content not working. Due to the files not being refreshed.

To help check over Mods and Custom Content in .package file format, see the troubleshooting tips post linked below:

I know, lol, I've had to do this before, I just yanked the folder to my desktop, and I leave it there until I'm finished and have it backed up, I usually start over with all my cc anyway just to make sure that anything I wanted to uninstall but couldn't see in the launcher is no longer there, and I test it with Custard and Dashboard-same with any mods I have installed-so less chance of conflicts or bad cc, the only thing I'm worried about uninstalling Origin is not being able to then download or install anything through the launcher. I do appreciate all your advice though!

You can download and install store content without Origin or the EA App.

This is the way I do it using a new Sims 3 folder and then when I'm done I backup the Downloads folder before installing the store content.

Log into the your EA account via the Sims 3 Store's website (https://www.thesims3.com/home.html). Download items via your purchase history page (Store > Store Account > Purchase History) or the item's page.

Here are a couple examples:

(Store > Store Content > Sets > Classics - Farm Fresh Folk Set)

Farm Fresh Folk Set
https://store.thesims3.com/setsProductDetails.html?scategoryId=14219&index=0&productId=OFB-SIM3:68674

(Store > Store Content > Worlds > Lucky Palms)

Lucky Palms
https://store.thesims3.com/luckypalms.html?categoryId=12642

If you're not able to download it or have some other problems with the store, download or install process Clear Edge and IE Browser Data to help with that.

The Sims 3 launcher uses parts of IE to work, so clearing Edge and IE's browser data can help with launcher issues such as downloading and installing store content.

View and delete browser history in Microsoft Edge:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/view-and-delete-browser-history-in-microsoft-edge-00cf7943-a9e1-975a-a33d-ac10ce454ca4

If your password contains any special characters, it's a good idea to change your password.  The launcher doesn't do well with some of those, for example & or !.  This is the case even when the password works fine on other EA sites.

Reset your password for expired credentials:
https://help.ea.com/en/help/account/reset-password-expired-credentials/

Additionally, go into Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3 > Downloads and delete the file labeled [your email].bin. if you have it.

Sounds like you've been through most of this before. Sorry for any repeated information. I like giving how tos and information just in case the person I'm working with isn't as familiar with steps to fix this or that.

I too have the EA App on my computer, but I have update games turned off, so it doesn't mess with my disc install of Sims 3.

Click Menu (☰) up top left > Settings > Downloads > Updates -

Update Games Automatically = Turned off

Enable Background Downloads = Turned off

Thank you! I actually do that already-download directly from the store and not throught the app-same with patterns I download from the exchange-although I scan those with custard before installing-same as with anything from TSR-good for detecting items that conflict with each other as well. I did not know that you could turn the updates and downloads off in the app, so I can set it so it won't update to 1.69, and I appreciate any advice (I checked and it seems it is already turned off). Can I also set it so it doesn't open automatically on startup without it messing with my game if I decide to play? I just had issues with Origin when I installed University and Island Paradise before-the launcher/game didn't want to seem to work without it-I had tried uninstalling it-which is why I'm asking now if it's ok to uninstall now I have the EA app-I probably will just install 70's 80's and 90's stuff, movie stuff and University for now and see how it does. Again, thanks for any advice.

Yep!! Though if you have the disc version of the game it shouldn't be interacting with the EA App, unless it ended up taking over the install?

Make sure that EA App does not automatically open when starting Windows.

Click Menu (☰) up top left > Settings > Application - Open the EA App Automatically on Start Up - turn this off. It's on by default and can cause issues, if you have multiple Windows user accounts.

The EA App in my experience uninstalled Origin. So if you want you can make sure that Origin is fully uninstalled via Control Panel > Uninstall a Program > Click on Origin (if there) and select Uninstall.

I'm sorry you're having a hard time with the EA App, Origin and your disc install. I definitely didn't have this many issues when I installed Sims 3 on my computer. Just kept telling it No to installing Origin and kept going with the install.

You may already know this, but just in case you don't.

Word of warning in using both Custard and Delphi's Dashboard - They may false-flag files, making them look like they're bad when they aren't. That's why it's recommended to do a manual check of your mods and custom content. To make sure you know everything is good.

That means trying the 50/50 method or going through them one by one if needed, deleting cache files from your Sims 3 folder (\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3) as you go through the small batches.

For reference those are:

 – CasPartCache.package ; compositorCache.package ; scriptCache.package ; simCompositorCache.package ; socialCache.package

This is especially useful for when downloading from the exchange. A lot of older .Sims3Pack files that have been uploaded to the exchange has bad cc attached to them and can really mess up your game.

yeah, I know about Custard deciding worlds are corrupt when they aren't-and I actually have a folder I call safe to install-which I had gone through everything manually by installing so many files at a time and then checking them and uninstalling them, then trying the next batch, I usually delete my cache files every so often, and I always try and be careful with what I download from the exchange( and I do click add to game rather than save)-most of what I download from there is pets, patterns, wallpapers and hair colours-and I so far have been safe with just those-if I download a sim, I edit them (and check what they came with) and save my own version, then uninstall the version I got from the exchange, I had a bad experience with an exchange lot and households once-wound up getting that centaur/horse body thing and the vampire shirt-which was the first time I had to do a cleanout-the second and last time I had done a cleanout of all my cc was about 2 years ago so I was probably due for one anyway, I find dashboard says some files are conflicting with each other and after awhile I get too much and even though I uninstall what I'm not using-sometimes it doesn't always show up in the launcher due to it only being able to show so many files at a time on each tab-cc builds up after awhile. So even though I'm a little anxious about reinstalling everything, it was probably a good thing anyway and I always keep all of my sims and previous saves backed up. LOL, I have an entire folder that is called saves to re-create my library, and whenever I do a cleanout, I always save my user presets file and copy it so I don't lose my saved patterns or hair colours. I have umteen dozen flash drives with all my cc I download backed up-and I usually download fresh copies of patterns and wallpapers, as well as any TSR files. I do have some mods from MTS (plus NRAA's mods) but I had already checked all of those with Dashboard before I compressed them-mostly just facial hair and the mods I add the very last anyway-I found that if I put them before installing simpacks, it can slow down the installation. I have a few ones that are not compressed (like NRAA's and a few clothing and objects) but Dashboard didn't find any issues-I don't take any chances with anything it has an issue with. I also use crinct's guides as well. Most of the non-store worlds that I use are from a site called mysimreality-and I never seemed to have a problem with any lots or worlds I got from there except for the last one-which might have been the issue.

Sounds like you're pretty good at cleaning up and backing up your Sims 3 files. I've also had a bad experience with the exchange. Put me off of custom content for awhile, but it has taught me to be more careful in what I download.

I was also wondering if setting the EA app to not automatically load on computer start up would cause any issues with upgrading with cd? I found when it was set to automatically load on start up seemed to make things a little slow-which was why I did it.

It shouldn't, as long as you have the Update Games Automatically turned off:

Click Menu (☰) up top left > Settings > Downloads > Updates - Update Games Automatically = Turned off

You should be able to install the packs you want to install without interference from the EA App.

ok, thanks! If I have any issues during installation of the stuff and expansion packs, I'll be back! probably won't be for a few days as I don't have much time in the evenings after work. But thanks for all your advice and help.
