Collecting all the books in a home library is a requirement I've not seen before - I didn't realize how many there are and never knew there were 5 conspiracy books that can only be purchased from the Strangerville curio shop.

All those cats . . . I wonder what is causing that.

I counted all the books by clicking on the bookcase > Purchase Books > a genre.
We can then see how many books each genre contains (though there's some overllap) and which books in that genre we already own.
That's how I spotted the Conspiracy genre and, since I've played in StrangerVille in a lot of my challenges, I knew the Curio Shop sold books.
I already store toddler books in a separate storage box. I'm going to do the same for skill books, lol.

Can't share the big news, so talk about grilled cheese 🤣

Yay Xavier for walking away from Kellan! That bloodsucker is not for you! Especially with you having a nooboo on the way.
Xavier thanks you for your approval! It was not easy--Xavier can barely resist Kellan when they are face-to-face.
Having Hikaru witness Xavier's shameful weakness for Kellan encouraged Xavier to break things off. *Sets Xavier's front door to disallow vampires, just in case

About the grilled cheese, I looked everywhere for the Share the Big News social and even tried TwistedMexi's Smarter Pie Menu search, but no joy.
When I looked at the couple, it looked like she was autonomous sharing the Big News but no; she was talking to Xavier about grilled cheese. LOL!

Lots of the collections get the splash screen for just the basics but I'm finding it doesn't mark them as complete in the collections screen. For example, we've got the shield for both the magical artifacts and the fossils but they haven't been added to the total number of complete collections. It's slightly annoying for a mild completer-finisher!

I'm glad Kellen is history but I'm curious as to what part the neighbour will play. Is he just a means to up Xavier's parenting skills?

The Simmies collection isn't an official requirement for Xavier, so we'll be happy if he finds the 12 normie Simmies and gets the Simmies plaque in the mail.
Of course, in your case, you will need to get EVERYTHING, but you have....what?...96 more generations to find them all?
Watcher, I do not envy you.  On the other hand, mad respect to you, Watcher, for your dedication to completing all of the collections! *salutes with reverence

Haha, neither you nor GlazeyLady were Kellan fans, but what could I do?  Xavier was really attracted to him...

10.80:  The Last Simmie

Sunday, Week 80 (mid-autumn)
Xavier: Last week, Lia and I moved here to Bedrock Strait on Tuesday, after brother Isaque's wife was eating for two.moved in
Lia and I didn't get married and try for baby until Wednesday because I was a bit whether we could get by financially.
On Friday, I took along my neighbor and friend Hikaru for moral support to Forgotten Hollow.
When I asked the vampire Kellan to just be friends, he became furious but I managed to calm him down and leave safely.
Saturday, Hikaru took us to his hometown, Mt. Komorebi, where we spent the evening at the Festival of Snow.
That's when I decided I'd like to complete the collection of twelve normal Simmies.
Here we are, standing in front of the Agave Adobe house across the street from us.

Lia: No, I'm not encroaching on Xavier's sphere of culinary expertise.
I'm trying to become a Renaissance Sim and need to reach level 8 in two more skills.
Cooking and Gourmet Cooking are both quick skills to learn, so I spend the morning in our tiny kitchen.
And while I'm at it, I discover that I'm a Foodie and that I like Cooking. Cool, right?

Xavier: Since I maxed Vampire Lore yesterday, I make two Garlic Wreaths this morning for our front entrance.
Kellan promised not to stalk me, but precautions never hurt.

Today's plan is that Xavier and I will run one yard sales each, starting with me.
Then we'll pack up everything so Watcher can enlarge our house.
Did you notice the absence of stray cats today? It turns out that Watcher being vision-challenge was to blame.
Watcher only realized today that she'd visually confused the Cat Hangout lot trait for Study Spot. LOL!
This generation, we're not supposed to switch lot traits once they're chosen, but that was a disability-driven mistake.
And now our lot traits are as they should be: Good Schools, Homey, and Study Spot.

Xavier: I keep losing track of what I've already crafted, so I move my crafts in family inventory to our yard.
You're probably thinking to yourself, "Xavier's father Chai already did that crafting bit."
Wrong! My father crafted to (1) earn income and (2)  furnish his rental units, thereby increasing their rental value.
I'm crafting for the exclusive use in our home; I can't sell any furnishings I make.

Lia: Watcher got (creatively) stuck trying to add rooms to our existing house.
So, she tore the house apart and built a new one from scratch.
The complete rebuilding delays my departure for the hospital by an hour, but a much bigger house is worth it!
Xavier, come on!

Lia: Meet our daughter Leilani.
Um, I've never taken a good look at a newborn before but are they all this…ugly?
Why does she have those large eye bags?
And her eyes are so puffy, I can barely tell that she has my green eyes.

Monday
Xavier: My grandparents' stayover starts after Lia leaves for work at 9 am.
I still have a half-dozen wall lamps to craft, so I welcome Grandpas Surya and Decha, then get back to woodworking.
Though I couldn't introduce Leilani to her GGs (great-grandfathers), they immediately go to her when she cries.
After I filled all her needs and soothing her to sleep, Lia will be home in another hour. Time for a yard sale!

Xavier: Tonight's Town BBQ in Sulani has little to offer: a Sulani Volanic BBQ pit, a picnic table, a cook, and a trash can.
Surya: There won't be enough food for all these sims. Good thing you brought a portable grill, right?
Xavier: Darn, Papa Chai suggested I buy one last week but I forgot all about it!
Lia looks so happy in her lab coat, which wears even at home. She'd shower and sleep in it if she could get away with it.

Tuesday
Xavier: Leilani aged up to an infant last night so I introduce her to her great-grandparents this morning.
Thank the Fates she lost those puffy, baggy eyes!
She looks so much like Lia, don't you think? Her GG (Great-Grandpa) Decha is utterly smitten.

We haven't had time to visit our founder Prince yet, but Watcher has modeled our new house after his.
It's basically four 4x4 rooms connected by a long hallway, with outdoor dining, living, and kitchen areas.

Wednesday
Grandpa Decha never ceases to amaze me! He's not Family Oriented like Grandpa Surya and me.
Yet, he's always the first to attend to Leilani's needs.
I rarely see my Grandpa Surya interacting with Leilani but she's closer to him than with Lia or me. Go figure!
What did he do to max his friendship with Leilani? And why isn't she friends yet with her GG Decha?

Lia: I think it's great that Xavier's so close to his grandpas and that Leilani gets to meet them, too.
Today, I earn my Level 8 promotion to Botanist and share the good news with them over a game of Simble.
Since Xavier and his grandpas help around the house, I can relax after work.

I feel so fortunate!  I live in a fancy, spacious home with my beloved husband and our adorable daughter.
Last night, I discovered I'm Family Oriented. And today, I got promoted to a Level 8 Botanist!
Xavier and his family take pride in my achievements and support my career.
Could life get any more perfect?

Thursday
Xavier: When we moved in and when we had our house remodeled, I was obliged to buy cheap furnishings.
But I'm gradually replacing those cheap items with furnishings I can craft by fabrication or woodworking.
You may recall that I'm only allowed to earn income from retail sales.
When I replace the cheaper furnishings, I convert them to bits and pieces in our Home Recycler. That's fair, right?
Hey, that's my Simmie collection on the left. I found four more this week, so I now have 8 out of 12 normal Simmies!

Xavier: I haven't been able to help Leilani with her infant milestones as much as I'd hoped.
With Lia working, I've been running yard sales at both the food stand and vendor table.
Besides making furnishings for our home, I also cook for Lia, my grandpas, and me.
But I'll make sure that Leilani becomes a Top-Notch Toddler!

Friday
Lia: Awwww, I wanted to feed Leilani, Grandpa Decha!
Decha: Sorry, Lia. I waited for you but Leilani's hunger dropped into the red zone, which is unhealthy.
You should try monitoring her needs more regularly, not just when she starts crying.
Lia: Oh, is that how you're always so quick to notice what she needs?
Decha: Yep! And Surya and I are going home tonight, so you'll need to step up your parenting game.
Leilani's feeling sleepy and we'll be here for several more hours, though, so why don't you and Xavier go out for a bit?

Xavier: I choose the Japanese restaurant Konayuki because of its traditional architecture and great food.
The Simmie capsule vending machine out front is a bonus! *whistles innocently
I buy capsules until I get three unique Simmies. Only one more to go!

Xavier: Lia stood up six times before our meal even arrived. (whispers: Watcher, can't you do something about Lia?)
Watcher: Nope. Every time she stands, I tell her to sit, but she just gets up again. I give up!
Xavier: How embarrassing that Lia is standing on the decorative alcove with her shoes on, eating her dinner.
I'll just pretend that I don't know her. Didn't her family teach her any table manners?

Xavier: Not long after Lia and I arrive home, we receive Leilani's birthday notice and age her up.
Leilani didn't do great with milestones but she ages up with the Top-Notch Infant trait.
And she is adorable! I give Independent Leilani the same hairstyle as Lia's.
Lia: Sorry, Xavier, but my sister Maria just called, saying she needs to talk privately with me.
Xavier: Do you want me to go with you? My grandparents left but we can hire a nanny for Leilani.
Lia: Thanks but that won't be necessary. I'll just make a quick trip to her home in StrangerVille then be right back.

Lia: While Xavier was buying Simmie capsules at Konayuki restaurant earlier, I spotted these two vending machines nearby.
I can't wait to see Xavier's face when I come home with the last Simmie of our collection!
Let's see, it took him an hour to get 3 unique Simmies earlier, so getting the last one shouldn't take too long…

Saturday
Xavier (to himself): I wonder what's talking Lia so long? It's past midnight and she should be back by now.
Once I've read to Leilani for an hour, I'll try sending her another text.
I think I'll phone her parents, too, to ask for the phone number of Lia's sister Maria.

While reading to Leilani, I suddenly notice that Lia no longer lives with us. Why would she move out like that?
Wait, WHAT!?!?! That notification can't be true! Lia died away from home!?
But what was she doing back at Konayuki restaurant when she said she was meeting her sister?
I'll wait until Leilani goes to sleep then I'll go pick up Lia's urn.

That night in front of Hikaru's home
Kellan: *compels Hikaru for a small drink just as Xavier walks up
Xavier: What the heck do you think you're doing, Kellan? When I visited you, I made it clear that Hikaru's off limits.
Kellan: Well, you dumped me so you have no say in whose blood I drink. I had a feeling that Hikaru's blood would taste divine!
Xavier: NO! You can't feed from Hikaru. He's mine! Uh, I mean, he's my bestie and my neighbor!
Kellan: So what? Just try and stop me! *smirks and walks off

Xavier: How are you feeling, Hikaru? Are you okay?
Hikaru: Besides feeling very uncomfortable, I'm not hurt anywhere but I'm terrified that he'll be back. What should I do?
Xavier: This past Wednesday, you phoned to say you have a crush on me. Do you still feel that way?
Hikaru: Um, yeah. I know you don't feel the same way about me...
Xavier: I lost Lia this morning and it's all I can think about now. I won't be able to reciprocate your feelings, Hikaru.
But we are besties and I can't let you stay here alone, defenseless against Kellan.
My daughter Leilani likes you, too. How about moving in with us?

I love this restaurant and have used it in several past challenges.

Notes
*Family aspirations' Read to a child for 2 hours" task:
It always takes my sims much longer than 2 sim-hours to complete this task. What am I doing wrong?
This time, I counted how many toddler books Xavier read to Leilani for completing  this task.
The answer: Five toddler books in 3 hours 40 minutes (that's sim time)

*"Books read" for Home Library: I've decided to count only solo reading for this task.
Household members will need to read books on their own, without counting books read to them as toddlers/children.
Counting "Being read to" makes the "Read 10 books" requirement too easy.
But if a toddler "Looks at a book" or "Reads a book," that certainly counts for their 10 total books read.

*Lia's gravestone: Xavier got a notification that Lia's urn was at Konayuki restaurant.
When he checked family inventory around 8 hours later, however, he found Lia's gravestone there.

WOW!! AWESOME UPDATE! I love the surprises!

So, the first surprise for me was that I felt like Lia was IN the household, but wasn't fully a part of it - I mean, she was married to Xavier, but they weren't fully connected or something. Just didn't feel like the right pair. And I started wondering whether Xavier would ever really be happy with her. And then when she wouldn't stay seated at the restaurant, I thought that was the writing on the wall. When she manufactured a story to go get the last Simmie, I felt like she was trying too hard, and when I saw her crawled up on the vending machine, I knew what was coming and appreciated her Watcher anew for the genius she is.
I don't recall getting a message that tells you where the urn is - have I just missed that or is that a mod?
And then Kellen . . . and Hikaru . . . you're keeping us in suspense until the very end! I love it!

Oh, I'm glad you enjoyed this update. I really, really love how deeply you got in the plot developments. <3
About Lia refusing to stay seated. In hindsight, I wonder if she knew what was coming? I've never had a sim eat standing on the alcove before.
I thought death by vending machine would be much easier. It was not.
For me, it feels like one of those death types that are easily triggered when you don't want it but hard to get deliberately.

As for that "Lia died away from home" message, I'd never seen a message like that before either.
I haven't installed a specific mod for locating urns/gravestones and wonder if it's a new feature of The Sims 4 or of MCCC.
And, as I mentioned in the story, Xavier found Lia's gravestone in his family inventory before he had time to go look for it at the restaurant.
Let's keep us all informed when this "died off their home lot" message appears again.

Thank you for reading! I love what an observant reader you are.

Ah Lia - dedicated to the end - that last Simmi! I do hope Xavier can secure it without further loss of life.

I find myself strangely invested in the progress of Leilani ;) She is cute as a toddler and skilling well.

And the malign presence of Kellen makes itself felt again #weavesmoregarlicwreaths.

You're really storming towards the end of your challenge - waving flags and cheering

As for that last Simmi, the household will get very, very busy soon.  Would buy a vending machine for the home lot be too lazy?  :D
Leilani is a cutie all right.
Speaking of children, Xavier's two remaining requirements will probably be revealed in the next update (Marital Status and No. of Children).
As for "the end," yes it is very clearly in sight: Xavier will need at least five more weeks to complete his Super Parent aspiration.
Thank you always for your encouragment!

You liked that idea, did you?  This challenge has reached its last generation, so I'm feeling impatient to start a new challenge.
Yeah, I guess a Simmi vending machine on the home lot would make getting that last one too easy.  *sheds a tear

Congrats! You should be proud. A solid year with this story. The challenge team will unveil this year's Baby Boomer in a couple of weeks. I know you lean heavily toward mods, but if you could resist the urge, maybe that could scratch your itch temporarily.

Lately, I've been enjoying challenges that encourage creative storytelling much more than challenges that require grinding.
And the mods I use are primarily geared toward facilitating storytelling.
I already have set-in-stone plans for my next challenge, but I'll keep my eyes peeled for the Challenge Team's Baby Boomer challenge.

10.81:  A Second Chance

Sunday, Week 81 (late autumn)
Xavier: Last week, everything seemed to be going so well at first.
On Sunday, our micro home was greatly enlarged  before my late wife Lia gave birth to Leilani.
My grandparents Surya and Decha stayed over so I could to help look after infant Leilani.
Thanks to them, I continued to craft furnishings for our new home
Friday night, I aged up Leilani to a toddler but Lia died trying to find the last Simmie.
Saturday, I'm shocked to find Kellan drinking from Hikaru at Hikaru's house.
Feeling guilty that Hikaru got targeted by Kellan, I invite Hikaru to move in so I can protect him.
Here's a shot of me holding Leilani (left) and Hikaru.

Xavier: Leilani's a very sociable kid and loves having Hikaru to play with.
When I find Hikaru teaching Flash Cards to her, I tell him to work on his own stuff for now.
He should get his grades up and become a Llamacorn Scout before his birthday on Tuesday.

Besides, Papas Denzel and Chai's stayover starts this morning.
I've really missed them, so it's great to have them around for a while.
They're both Adults now but remain as handsome as ever.

Hikaru's been working hard on his scout badges.
He even asked me for a Potion of Plentiful Needs so he could pull an all-nighter.
I'm so glad he agreed to move in with us. Kellan won't dare show his face around here.
Also, I learn today that Hikaru's an aspiring Jewelry Maker who moved into this hood for its dig sites.

Monday
Xavier: I still can't believe Lia's gone. I don't even remember the last time I ran a yard sale.
I'm throw myself a pity party for failing to become a Chopstick Savvy Spice Hound.
Wouldn't you know that this is the meal that makes me Chopstick Savvy! Yay!

Hikaru: My very first piece of jewelry will be a gift for Xavier. Oh, the Delicate Necklace!
Its description says: "They'll dream of you in this necklace. They'll pretend you're theirs."

That's confusing! If I gift this to Xavier will he dream of me? Or will I dream of him?
(I mean, I already pretend that he's mine...)
I give Xavier a Hematite Delicate Necklace, so he cannot die.  Looks good on him, too!

Xavier: Remind me to never attend Sulani's Town BBQ again!
Our household never got anything to eat last time, so I bring BBQ ribs I prepared at home.
The caterer actually sits down and helps herself to a serving!
Around 9 pm, Watcher spots her leaving the venue with the fish dish she prepared. Unbelievable!
After Watcher makes her dish, townies stampede to eat from  the platter on the ground.
Such uncivilized behavior!

Back home, Hikaru explains that his Sulani Mana trait enables him to "Summon Volcanic Bomb."
We're all quite shocked when he tosses a ball of fire high into the sky.
After the scorching Volcanic Bomb cools off, Hikaru breaks it open to find crystals and ores.
That's a useful source of ores for a Jewelry Maker like Hikaru.

Tuesday4-5
Today, I finally get the urge to run my food stand and max Baking while preparing sweets to sell.
I'm delighted, of course, to discover that I'm a Foodie.  Well, duh!
Hikaru ages up to a young adult today. He's a Bookworm and Outdoor Lover as well as a Genius.
He's also Responsible and Compassionate. I'll take him out to celebrate after my yard sale.

Leilani maxed all her toddler skills yesterday morning. Her birthday's on Friday.
Instead of buying a Fantastical Tent, I had her max Imagination by reading toddler books.
She's free-ranging now. All we need to do now is monitor her needs.

Xavier: I thought you'd enjoy our first date at Club Calico for your birthday. Why so glum?
Hikaru: I'm a young adult now like you, but you still treat me like a kid!
Is it so hard to imagine that Kellan's attracted to me, not just trying to get back at you?
Xavier: What!? Is Kellan who you want, then?
Hikaru: Of course not! I know you're still grieving, but please give me a chance, Xavier!

Xavier: I can't believe I asked you to be my boyfriend. You must've put a spell on me!
Hikaru: Watcher texted me last night and told me you're required to have five children.
That's why I crafted this ring for you. It makes you more likely to have twins or triplets.
But the ring and me, we're a package deal.  Please say yes!
Xavier: But we can't get married right away, okay? Now let's give this ring you gave me a test ride.
Hikaru (to himself): He doesn't need to know my ring's fully charged but his ring isn't.
I didn't have time to charge both rings before our date tonight.

Wednesday
Chai: What's going on with our son today, Denzel? He's certainly feeling himself!
Denzel: Xavier took Hikaru out for his birthday last night, so we no doubt have Hikaru to thank.
Chai: I see. Well, there's not much to do here now, so we should go home and get some rest.
I'm sure we'll be invited back here as soon as this household gets bigger.

Xavier: I heard Hikaru throwing up this morning, so I'm pretty sure he's eating for two!
We won't know for sure until tonight.
I'm going to run one or two yard sales every day until Hikaru gives birth.
After that, I want to spend as much time as possible with the family.

Hikaru: I'd like to say that I'm doing the same as Xavier, but I'm still not at that stage.
I'm too new to gemology and haven't sold any of my creations yet.
Do I get a better price for jewelry if they're fully charged or not?
And…oh, this confetti! I'm eating for two!

Thursday
Hikaru: By late afternoon, I finally have ten crystal creations to sell.
After Xavier closes his food stand, it's time for my first yard sale.
It goes quite well, I think. I sell seven out of my ten pieces.
Still, I'm glad jewelry making is only my side gig. I'm a family sim at heart.

Friday
Xavier: I'd wanted to wait a week after Lia's death to remarry, and Hikaru's been counting the days.
As soon as we wake up this morning, Hikaru's eager to go tie the knot.
We exchange our vows at ZoSul Taman Botani, like Grandpa Surya and Papa Chai before me.

After we're married, the first thing Hikaru does is run to Leilani.
He'd wanted to formally adopt her, but couldn't find the option.
Our simverse doesn't allow adoption in case of a divorce, breakup, or deceased parent.
It'll be fine. Leilani knows Hikaru cares deeply for her.

When my stand was closer to our lot's edge, my customers left their dirty plates on the sidewalk.
Now that I've moved my stand farther back, some of them pack their purchases into sack lunches.
But they leave them around my stand instead of taking them home.
I wish I knew how to keep the area in front of my food stand clean.

At 6 pm on the dot, Papa Chai phones to invite us to the Spice Festival.
We don't go until later, though, after Leilani ages up to a child.
She's an Outdoor Lover like Lia and Hikaru.
Hikaru's in his third trimester now. We visited his doctor this morning and learned he's having twins.

Check me out wearing the Spice Champion t-shirt! Do you remember the Spice Festival 2 weeks ago?
I tried so hard to boost my spice tolerance that the simverse tried to give me the Glutton trait!
Tonight, I aced the Spice Contest after my second serving of curry. Sadly, I'm not a Spice Hound yet.

Saturday
Xavier: I've been enjoying intellectual activities lately and discover that I'm a Bookworm.
Hikaru: While upgrading the stereo in my gemology nook, I discover that I'm a Perfectionist.
Leilani: I'm reading The First Unicorn to finish off my Scholarly Aptitude badge.
Why are you reading a book about cooking, Papa Hikaru? Isn't it faster to actually cook?
Hikaru: It is, but I'm working on my "Read 10 Books" requirement.

Hikaru: In the evening, I go to the hospital and give birth to twin boys.
Xavier is holding our firstborn, Tristan, and I'm cuddling Stefan.
We'll re-introduce you to them tomorrow once they're infants.

Hikaru: Both boys have very wrinkly, baggy eyes.
Xavier: Yeah, Leilani had eyes like that as a newborn, too.
Hikaru: Are the baggy eyes normal for infants, Xavier? Or are they a Mistura thing?

Hikaru: Xavier requires two more children.
We're hoping for twin girls!

Progress: End of Week 81
Residence: Slipshod Mesquite, Bedrock Strait (Oasis Springs)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Tristan Mistura: Gen12 child - Newborn

Stefan Mistura: Gen12 child - Newborn[/spoiler]

Notes
*The garden: Without a Gardener, the household can no longer sell produce for income.
Therefore, the garden now grows cooking ingredients (cash-crop plants/trees were recycled).
The garden also has two Crystal Trees planted by Lia plus two more planted by Hikaru.

Congrats on the marriage and the births!
It's funny that you and I both got Second Chance as the marriage choice. But it's cool that even though it was the same option, we could play it out in very different ways.
Leilani sure is a cutie. I'm sure all Xavier's children will be adorable.
Looking forward to two more little Misturas. Of course, that's easy for me to say, I'm not the one raising them. 😉

Five children - that's hard work. Looking forward to meeting them all soon. Congrats on the twins and marriage.

Leilani is very cute with her pointy ears.

I was surprised that Xavier is taking so long to get Spice Hound. I'd always been impressed at your other Sims seemingly getting that and Chopstick Savvy at the drop of a hat. Maybe it's harder to get these days.

Are you enjoying the Gemology? I haven't quite worked out when, during the conception or pregnancy, it's best to wear a charged item to get multiple births - the whole time or just parts of it.
