Prologue: What's the Meta?


oshizu: Nearly two months ago, I completed my Not So Berry challenge.
It took around 8.5 months to complete, not counting a 6-week break to wait for the High School Years pack's release.
I really enjoyed that challenge with all its quirky requirements.
But if you're anything like me, I always get antsy around midway through a challenge and start itching to start something new.
And, true to form, I started looking ahead to the next challenge late last summer.
After creating a "Next Challenge" folder for browser bookmarks, I began adding links to potential legacy challenges.


Over the next six months, I searched, bookmarked, and perused the most popular legacy challenges
In my free hours, I envisioned my sims' lives within the context of the various legacy challenges.
By February of this year, I'd narrowed my choice to three challenges but remained undecided.


It seemed like every legacy challenge I considered included a generation or two that I found unappealing.
And that's  how this Mishmash Legacy was born. 
Like your typical legacy challenge, 10 generations of the same family face unique requirements in each generation.
However, I've drawn each set of generation-based requirements from an existing legacy challenge.
The ten generations were chosen for enjoyable gameplay, narrative drama, and readerly entertainment.
I know it'll be a blast to play and hope it will be as much fun to read about.


Prince: Are you still boring the readers with your blabbity-blab about your new challenge?
Why did you even invite me here if all you're going to do is ignore me?

Prince (mutters): As if I had any say in the matter...


P: Again, why am I here? I'm not even the biological son of Ai, the Not So Berry Gen10 heir!
o: You're absolutely right! You're the son of Ai's husband Bronson (right) and Skylar Shelley (left).
P: Um, okaaay….
o: Also, you were named from the start after one of my fave artists cuz I know you're going to be awesome!


o: Come, it's time for you to blow out your birthday candles and prepare for your new adventure!
P: I have no idea what you're talking about, but you had me at "new adventure."


P: Ugh, what's with these awful clothes and ugly slippers!? And my eyebrows are overplucked!
All you did was change my hair color!
o: First of all, your namesake Prince has dark hair, so no red hair for you, either.
As for your makeover, that's a surprise for your first day. I know you're gonna love it! 
P: And why did you change my family name to Mistura?
o: "Mistura" is the Brazilian-Portuguese word for "mixture." Good fit for this Mishmash Legacy, yes?
Or, would you prefer the name of Prince Mixture?
P: Um, no, ma'am.  My descendants and I shall proudly bear the family name of Mistura.


P: So what now? Are we like roomies or something?
o: Nope! Your family gave you enough money to buy this house but it won't be enough.
Look over this partial list of your requirements, then make yourself a list of things you need to buy.
P: And what about you?
o: Me? I'm going to get busy setting up your simverse so you can get started, then I'm outta here.
Oh, that's a great initial list, Prince! Good luck earning the money to buy all that!
P: Huh? I'm gonna have to hustle for myself?


o: Let's see…a café here, two restaurants in this hood, a toddler park over there….
P: Hey, before you get all into that, I have another question.
I heard on TV that we all believe we're living our lives according to our free will.
But, in fact, we're just a simulation controlled by aliens.  Is that true?
o: Oh, please! You live how you want while I watch you, and I freely live an unsupervised life.
Pffft, a simulation controlled by aliens! That would be way too meta!

I've removed all their CC so these sims aren't how they appeared in my stories.
But they are pre-played sims, not clean library clones. I simply rearranged their households (sometimes removing offspring) to have Gallery access to them.
I'll be adding these sims a few at a time to my Mishmash simverse.

Rules & Gameplay Settings

Challenge Rules
*I'll be playing according to general conventions for multi-gen challenges.
  That is, no money cheats and no mods that offer any unfair advantage in gameplay, and so forth.
  I do use mods to prevent annoying sim behavior like the constant mess making and grabbing drinks of water.
*I reserve the right to modify any of the requirements that I draw from existing legacy challenges.
*The legacy household is free to move whenever it pleases, but especially when a requirement makes a move necessary.

Rule Tweaks
*Early age-ups: I am allowing myself early age-ups, regardless of the original requirements.
  --Infants: not sure, probably as soon as I tire of the infant stage
  --Toddlers may be aged up after maxing all 5 toddler skills.
  --Children may be aged up after, at minimum, earning an A grade but also typically completing Scouts and a minimum of 3 aspirations.
  --Teens may be aged up after, typically, earning an A grade, but the timing ultimately depends on that generation's requirements and how I decide to approach them.
  --Young Adult and Adults: no early age-ups for these life stages.

Gameplay Settings
Lifespan: Normal
Seasons: 28 days  21 days
Weather: Thunderstorms/Blizzards off (except in Yukimatsu); Weather affects sims.
Lifestyles: Disabled
Pack settings: Opt-out of Fame; disabled NPC Voting, Eco Footprint Gameplay, and Animal Aging
Starting age: Teen founder
Starting funds: $20,000 to purchase empty starter lot, then cheated down to $0.

*MC Command Center by Deaderpool (Auto Bill Pay, Disable Emotional Deaths, and Pause on Zone; Auto-Marriage/Auto-Pregnancy/Auto-Moving for all sims not in active household; and a dozen or so other settings to facilitate smoother story progression, such as no more than 3 children per sim.

Challenge Overview

The inspiration for each generation's requirements will be described and linked below, but only after I've completed all the requirements of said generation.

Generation 1: Prince
Prince's requirements are around 70% based on the Gen8 requirements of the Whimsy Stories Legacy by kateraed.
I changed the personality traits, aspirations, and career to suit the "real Prince," but kept nearly all of the story-related goals the same.

Generation 2: Carlos
Carlos' requirements are a substantially modified version of Gen19 "Cinnamon Sprice" from the All Packs Extended NSB Challenge, created by Illusory Thrall. I added four more requirements to make Carlos' generation a bit harder.

Generation 3: Izar
Izar's requirements are borrowed from "The Hero, No. 6 of The Postcard Legacy Challenge by sojuteatime.
It is unchanged from the original except for the required skills. (I"ve spent over 30 minutes trying to hide the url link and have given up.  Sorry!

Generation 4: Gisela
Gisela's requirements are drawn from Gen1 of the Crybaby Whims Legacy Challenge by Draeyad.
Since Giseala is Gen4, she plays out the pre-YA drama which only appears as a backstory in the original challenge.
Apart from that, my only changes were to add the Drama Llama and Expert Nectar Maker aspirations.
The original challenge lets the Watcher decide whether to reunite with ex-hubby or ex-boyfriend.

Generation 5: Felicia
Inspired by Gen3 of Samtastic's version of the Differences in the Family Tree challenge.
It offered a nice break after the chaos of the previous heir's generation.
My edits to the source challenge's original Gen3 requirements:
*Added the Academic aspiration and completed both Painter Extraordinaire & Bestselling Author.
*Required 10 bestsellers instead of 10 novels.
*Getting a degree was optional but I required a distinguished degree.
*Added "Marry someone your sim met on campus," then arranged for Licia to meet Daichi. Oops?
*Edited the "Have some murals in your home (City Living)" requirement to include posters instead.

Generation 6: Akira
Inspired by Gen6 "Copy Cat" of the Crybaby Whims Challenge by draeyad. I made the following changes:
*Traits: Creative, Art Lover, Clumsy --> Creative, Foodie, Clumsy
*Skills: not specified --> Charisma, Cooking, and Parenting
*Aspiration: Big Happy Family --> Replaced with Appliance Wiz and Market Magnate (the Gen4 heir Gisela already did Big Happy Family)
*Careers: Freelance Digital Artist for both twins --> Home Chef Hustler (Akira the heir) and Freelance Writer (his twin Kage)
*Move twin out with one of the babies and half of the household funds: Kage took only 25%.

Generation 7: Karina
Karina's requirements were drawn from Gen3 of the Whimsy Stories Legacy by kateraed.
The only changes I made are:
*Aspiration: Serial Romantic --> Added Goal Oriented and Master Mixologist
*Try for Baby (50% risk) with 3 different sims in one night --> Risky Woohoo (20% risk)

Gen8: Hiroki
Hiroki's heir requirements come from Gen 6, Materialistic, of The Fatal Flaws Legacy by siya.
I tweaked the original requirements as follows:
*Aspirations: Hiro wasn't allowed to select the Mansion Baron aspiration until after he moved out on his own
*Collection: Hiro's an Adventurous sim so I added the Fish Collection (*mutters: stupid Luna Fish)
*Completion: I consider Hiro's generation complete when he's both become a Mansion Baron and moved in his kids

Gen9: Surya
Surya's heir requirements are ones I created myself in order to explore Tomarang and the new For Rent expansion pack from a tenant's perspective.
*kills: Charisma, Cooking, Wellness
*Move as a teen to an apartment in Tomarang
*Aspirations: Appliance Wiz, Discerning Dweller, Neighborhood Confidante, Self-Care Specialist*   
*Cook & consume every Southeast Asian recipe using fresh and/or prepped ingredients 41/41
*Marry a sim with the Nosy trait who completes the Seeker of Secrets aspiration
Host or attend at least one community or neighborhood event every week (4 weeks so far)

Gen10: Somchai (Chai)
Chai's heir requirements are ones I created myself in order to explore Tomarang and the new For Rent expansion pack from a landlord's perspective.
*Skills: Charisma, Fabrication, Handiness
*Aspirations: Five-Star Property Owner, Nerd Brain, Renaissance Sim
*As a child, earn §10k selling beverages §11,520/§10,000
*May craft any furnishings/decor to earn income or furnish rentals
*As a teen, move to Koh Sahpa
*Move in a Wise elder who completes the Fount of Tomarani Knowledge aspiration
*Own at least five rental units occupied by tenants
*Complete the Tassels (10) or Marbles (15) collection

Gen11: Xavier
Xavier's requirements are drawn from the Random Legacy Challenge. There are several updates and adaptations of the rules, here's [url-https://ts4randomlegacychallenge.wordpress.com/2020/12/26/the-rules/]the newest one[/url].
*Marital Status: Second Chance
  Your heir must obtain two live-in partners during the course of the generation.
  At least one child must be born or adopted with the first partner.
*Career: Retail Owner

*Generational Goal: Home Library
  The private home library must include all 102 books in nine genres, owned by the heir's household.
  Every household member must read 10 books.
*Secondary Careers: (1) Gardener/Botanist, (2) Jewelry Maker
*Misc. Fun: Island Local - Every week, the heir must join a local gathering in Sulani.

Hello friends!
A quick note to say that I've been plagued these past several weeks with problems related to a new computer setup, health, and emailing back and forth with EA (after switching to the new computer), the EA App insists I  never owned the Get Together DLC.
Well, I don't want to bore you will all the petty details. I do hope to be up and running again (both health-wise and tech-wise) by Friday and to cobble together a prologue to my newest challenge next weekend

Hey Oshizu, sorry to hear you're having some frustrating problems. Many purchases of Growing Together through the EA app, as opposed to the Sims 4 website, bugged out. You should be able to repurchase the game through the website, and then seek a refund of the bugged out app one. Or vice versa. Maybe that helps. Good wishes for your health, and hope to see you back to writing stories soon!
