Forum Rules, the Movie
« on: January 19, 2011, 03:25:50 AM »
Hi people,

I would like to read your opinions about the second movie I've made for Carls sims 3 page on Youtube. The account is still 'under construction' and therefore opinions and ideas are really important for me.
Although I really enjoy to read that people are enjoying my videos, because that is my goal, but please don't hastitate to give negative feedback. After all, I can't learn without those to.

That's an awesome movie Leto. I haven't looked at your first movie yet, so I'll have to check it out. Did you come up with all that sims video yourself? It's pretty clever. Only problem I had was sometimes the words were hard to read against a light background, but I am aware that that is hard to fix.

@pallyndrome: I think it will take up one hour before a new version of the movie will be uploaded after improving. So no, it is not that hard to fix.

@ Lena: That's indeed why some parts are supposed to be funny: than it is indeed easier to remember.

I just saw it, and had to reply few times cause eather video is too interesting so I miss the text, or it's the other way around. The fact that I replay it few times means it is extremely good, interesting and full of information. And seeing my own signature among others was so great ;D How did you made those police officers to act that good?

No, Leto, I meant that it's hard to fix because if you make the text black instead, then it won't show well against dark backgrounds. The thought of trying to get around that sounded daunting to me.

And did you make all that sim action yourself? It's ingenious - especially the part with the cops.

I agree that the white letters are a little hard to read when against a light background.  Does your program allow you to put in a drop shadow, Leto?  That would make it easier to read, I think.

A drop shadow is possible. Actually anything can be made in Photoshop when it comes to frames.

And all the sims action was indeed made by me. The little tricks that I've used to let the sims act like that was to turn Free Will completely off and that 'boo' yelling came from a sim nearby, but out of the camera's reach that was in the highest level of the criminal career. That red aura of her causes all the sims to 'boo' her. I find out that they do, even when they sit down. :)

That was great.  I love that concept.  I do agree about the white print, but that would be the only thing that I would change. :)

Excellent job, Leto. What a great spark of creativity for you to take something pretty drab like a set of forum rules and turn it into something visually appealing. My only suggestion is to really tighten it up. 10 minutes is a pretty long time for someone to watch that kind of a video. Bam, bam, bam — just edit down the video and really go through those rules quickly. You would be surprised at how quickly people can absorb information visually. Maybe Pam or I could assist you with even paring down the number of words. The important thing about this video is that it gives someone a quick visual overview of the main ideas, right? I'm thinking that 100% of the actual words do not necessarily need to be flashed on the screen. Fewer words = less need for video = a tighter, more focused end product.

Very well done, Leto.

You had me at the introduction, really. It looked so epic, I was convinced to vote on Extremely Good since 00:01.  The moving light at the start with the PlumbBob background, where Carl's quote is at, moves kinda weirdly, though. I don't understand the video backgrounds for rules 8 and 9. Nice job on rule 14, by the way.  The epic booing at rule 15 looks awsome.

I believe one of the best ways to shorten the video is to avoid cutting the text at the bottom so much, and use the entire screen for it (with a drop shadow, perhaps, to avoid unreadable text), or maybe at least change it from 2 lines to 4 lines at a time, mostly at rule 11.

Also, I'm in the video! Woo!

I am very sure that I heard "bird is the word!" at 2:30.

Bravo!  Very well done, Leto!  My only suggestion would be to try to find a way to shorten it - ten minutes is a large investment of time if someone just wants to know the forum rules.  As for the colour of the print, I found it easy to read.
