Curse that Quentin!!  He's certainly making himself a nemesis for you!
Llantonio and Antonia.  That's pretty great!
It was so kind of Janet to beat up the vending machine on Antonia's behalf.  I imagine tiny little Antonia wouldn't have even been able to budge it if she'd thrown her whole weight at it!
I've heard there's a death by vending machine which I'm half-curious about but don't really want my household to experience. I wonder if Quentin would like to start collecting Simmies...

Yep, that darn Pie Competition.
Most times, the Fair judges don't even acknowledge that my sims submitted an entry!

Carson is going to have one last attempt. If no joy then he'll admit defeat.

Llantonio is such a great name for a llama! Too cute. As for the three friends for the child aspiration, I've noticed that friends you make before you are on that leg of the aspiration don't count; you have to make three brand new ones.

That explains it. I did wonder...

A Twitch of a Tale (Nine Lives Dynasty) 8.7: Llama Drama

Nova: Hi folks! Yes, I made it into week 7 again. I think my elder years are getting longer each time. Do you like the family paintings? We only keep the masterpieces. They look nice over the bar area.

8.7.1.jpg

Antonia: Thanks for coming over. I had a whim to chat with you, as we’ve become friends.
Quentin: I hope your dad’s not sore over losing to me in the pie competition.
Antonia: Carson’s not my dad. He’s….family, somehow. It’s complicated. But he’s not sore. He’s just surprised, is all.
Quentin: I’m just an excellent pie-maker. That’s the secret.
Antonia: And yet your pies were normal…
Quentin: Normal Essence of COWPLANT pies. I mean…that’s pretty special.
Antonia: I guess.

8.7.2.jpg

Antonia: I’m entering Llantonio next week. And some of his wool.
Quentin: Oh – I don’t do llamas so I won’t be there.
Antonia: What a shame…
Quentin: Good luck, though.
Antonia: Thanks

8.7.3.jpg

Quentin: Hmmm. I’d better let the HoB locals know about Llantonio. We can’t have outsiders winning too many ribbons…

8.7.4.jpg

Nova: Carson upset about the pie competition? I suppose you could say that. When the vending machine didn’t give his capsule, he really went for it. People usually just give it a shake. Don’t try this at home! He ended up flat on his back with the machine on top of him and still no capsule.

8.7.5.jpg

Nova: Still – I’m still enjoying life. The animals around here are still stealing my rightful attention but the Spring sun is warm and the sand is warm and the breeze is warm. It’s a good life.

8.7.6.jpg

Llantonio: Blargh!
Antonia: I know, I know. Orange doesn’t suit you. Let me shave all this off and we’ll try a midnight treat. Orange wool is quite ordinary…

8.7.7.jpg

Nova: Just checking…1 2 3 4 5 6 7. It’s nice to see the respect with which my life markers are being treated. I quite like the grave stones but the urns are definitely funereal.

8.7.8.jpg

Nova: It’s Janet’s adult birthday and she invites Fetia along. Fetia is the one remaining generational teen that didn’t get aged up last week. I don’t know why the teens at that High School don’t age but we can help with that.

8.7.10.jpg

Nova: Oh no! Roxanne, the Green Princess keels over at one of the upstairs telescopes. I don’t know why. She wasn’t an elder. After all, her father Albert only died last week. We move her life marker to be with his and go straight round to her dwelling to check on her kit – Sharon – who is also a Green Princess. Sharon had become friends with Antonia at primary school. Thank goodness she is also a teen now otherwise she might have disappeared!

8.7.11.jpg

Nova: When we get back, the Man in Black is still hanging around. I’m not happy about it but Antonia thinks he might as well help her with her homework if he’s got nothing better to do.

8.7.12.jpg

Grim: Well, Nova, are you ready?
Nova: I didn’t realize you were waiting here for me.
Grim: It is your time. Your eighth time.
Nova: And I coming back again?
Grim: You have nine lives – one left.
Nova: Just one?
Grim: Just one!

8.7.13.jpg

Flower Bunny: Look guys, it’s not like she wasn’t old.
Carson: But there’s so much death in the world.
Flower Bunny: You know she’ll be coming back.
Janet: But – oh it’s too sad!
Flower Bunny: I give up. Where’s the blue one? I’m better with kids.
Carson: Oh – she’s a teen now.
Flower Bunny: Drat!

8.7.14.jpg

Antonia: And this will help me cheer up?
Flower Bunny: Well, look at it this way. It’s helping cheer me up so that’s a win!
Antonia: Hmph. Llantonio is more caring than you!

8.7.15.jpg

Carson: I’m planting it!
Janet: But the dangers!
Carson: I don’t care. If it’s the only way to win the pie competition, it’s got to be done.
Janet: Don’t mind me then. I’m off for a few days.

8.7.16.jpg

Janet: ...and so he planted the cowplant. I think it’s a really bad idea. Just because we’re all grieving Nova. I mean…
Batuu Citizen: Don’t you want to know about the First Order or the Resistance?
Janet: Oh – that. Yeah – tell me about them…

8.7.17.jpg

Antonia: Oh Mayor just look at my excellent rare black wool – it outshines all the normal common stuff.
Mayor: Give me a hug.
Antonia: That’s a little inappropriate but OK. And you’ve seen Llantonio? He’s really in the pink at the moment!
Mayor: OK, he’s quite special. You get first for him. But the wool? You really can’t expect to win over HoB locals who have generations of small-holding experience.
Antonia: But…you made me hug you!
Mayor: Be content with your one ribbon, girl!

Notes
It’s always a bit sad when the family photo doesn’t include Nova but I put loads into the body of this update to make up for it. Continuing to Simstagram Pet throughout gameplay usually gives me plenty to choose from.

Pets can't go to Batuu so I thought Janet could have a quick jaunt while Nova's absent. However she was too sad to get the most out of it - just the first step of the aspiration.

I don’t have full proof that the mayor favours locals over non-residents but there’s something fishy going on. I think it’s chickens next week! At least Llantonio got the ribbon he so richly deserves for being all colours during the week. That’s 4 of the nine available. The remaining ones are chicken, egg, milk, wool & the elusive pie.

Just one more! The posh princess has it right. I think I'd leave town for a while, too, if somebody planted the deadly cowplant in my yard! :P

I got real excited at first about your winning the pie competition but, after rereading it, realized it was Quentin who won.
Good luck next time, Carson!

Oh, no! Rest in peace, Roxanne! After you check the family tree, please let us know her cause of death.
The mayors are such jerks!  There's one my sim cultivated to BFFs then, 2 days before the fair, he phones to ask if he should switch careers Obviously, I told him no.

A male Mayor!  I thought the role had been coded to always be a woman, because that's what I've always seen in my games.  Even when that bug was happening, where it kept generating new townies for the roles in Henford, even though the originals were still around and even still had their role marked above their name.

I wonder if anyone has cultivated a cowplant in Strangerville - that might be a fun interaction. Yeah - I'd be out of there pronto.

Carson is baking up a storm to unlock the recipe for cowplant essence meringue pie. He's got 2 weeks until the next pie manoeuvres.
We find out more precisely what happened to Roxanne in the next update. Very precisely! Almost exactly precisely!

I was surprised. They're usually in that tweed ensemble. Nice that it can vary but he has disappeared for the next week...it's a female mayor again.

A Twitch of a Tale (Nine Lives Dynasty) 9.1: Strikes Twice
« Reply #265 on: April 13, 2023, 05:27:10 AM »
A Twitch of a Tale (Nine Lives Dynasty) 9.1: Strikes Twice

Nova: Saturday Midnight (or is that Sunday) I make my reappearance. The family doesn’t spot me, probably because they put my urn on a table and I finally found my way to a place that is fast becoming my favourite spot.

9.1.1.jpg

Nova: Carson, the Lazy Tom, does the honours with the Ambrosia and Age-Down Treats so I am once more the epitome of cuteness. Janet, the Posh Princess, whose pigtails look strangely incongruous on a posh adult acolyte, can’t resist giving my cuteness a hug. As a nearly divine being, I overlook this familiarity but I do need to put somethings in order.

9.1.2.jpg

Nova: Firstly, the chickens! During my absence they have taken to wandering into my temple. That needs to stop immediately.

9.1.3.jpg

Nova: I spend some time communing with Joy, my original acolyte. She, of course, agrees with me that the acolytes must have more suitable clothing. They now have robes. I have allowed them to keep some of their other clothes but they know that I prefer their robes.

9.1.4.jpg

Nova: Antonia is still a teen and is also still insisting on collecting Simmies. I indulge this obsession but it is getting out of hand.

9.1.5.jpg

Nova: The obsession with Finchwick Fair ribbons is another indulgence. I’m not sure how long I can allow this fruitless activity to continue. Rainbow llamas? Really?

9.1.6.jpg

Nova: Ah! Roxanne, the Green Princess, makes a ghostly reappearance. She is not happy.
Roxanne: You bet I’m not happy. I’ll turn green for old-times sake but I’m going back to red any second.
Nova: Wait! While you’re green I can see a glowing rock inside you.
Roxanne: Yes! And that’s one of the reasons I’m so angry. How would you like to live eternally with a lump of the rock that killed you glowing inside for all the world to see? A constant reminder of that terrifying moment when I saw it coming towards me in the telescope.
Nova: I am so sorry.
Roxanne: None of you came to weep over my body. You just rushed off to check on Sharon. Actually that was nice of you. How is she?
Nova: She’s fine. We’ll keep a close eye until she’s an adult but she’s doing well.

9.1.7.jpg

Nova: The Lazy Tom teaches Antonia to knit so that she can use the llama wool and fashion more outfits for those ridiculous chickens. Do you like her hair? The simple bun was OK but hardly decorous. She looks more like my acolyte now. Maybe I should add more acolytes to my household. Marie’s kit Carolynn is part of the family club because she’s a cat-lover. Maybe she would like to move in…
Watcher: I'm just a bit concerned about her Goofball trait...

9.1.8.jpg

Chartreux: Wow, Janet. You look amazing.
Janet: It seemed the right time to give up my pigtails and invest in a more professional colourist. But, Chartreux, can I discuss my fear of death with you, now it’s more imminent for you?
Chartruex: That’s a little insensitive but OK. Take deep breaths. It will be OK.

9.1.9.jpg

Nova: Antonia hatches another ridiculous chicken. Why? I ask, why?

9.1.10.jpg

Nova: I am more concerned about the Lazy Tom’s latest obsession. He’s named it Pi! Does it look dangerous to you? It looks dangerous to me. I just ignore it and, thankfully, it ignores me.

9.1.12.jpg

Nova: What’s the Lazy Tom doing? He looks hungry. And Pi has got cake.

9.1.14.jpg

Nova: Well, we didn’t see that coming, did we readers! I thought he was going to let some poor passer-by take the cake but it seems he was too worried about losing Pi.

9.1.15.jpg

Nova: Why has the camera switched from me again? Oh – Carolynn! Not another meteorite. Oh dear, that’ll be another angry ghost in the house!
Watcher: But I was going to get her to move in!
Nova: Face it, Watcher, you vacillated about her Goofball trait and never made up your mind.
Watcher: Oh dear.
Nova: She did love me…
Watcher: She will be missed.

9.1.18.jpg

Janet: Right! There’s going to be some changes and I’m starting with swapping my Lazy trait for Cat-Lover!
Carson: Are you sure?
Janet: You and Antonia are both Cat-Lovers and I want to be part of that. Besides, I’m not very Lazy at all. You aren’t either. Why don’t you change too?
Carson: I’m already a Cat-Lover and I like being Lazy sometimes.

9.1.19.jpg

Nova: Our Posh Princess becoming a Cat-Lover allows us to find new Cat-Lovers to add to my club. This is teen Amanda Ito who we met a week ago at the Finchwick Fair. She’s already friends with Antonia and the Lazy Tom thinks she’s OK.

9.1.20.jpg

Nova: Now this is a surprise return. Theodore. Yes, I’d forgotten he was a Cat-Lover too. I thought it might be awkward for the Posh Princess but she seems to have forgiven him ignoring her.

9.1.21.jpg

Nova: Another week, another Finchwick Fair. Antonia spends her time at the Fair getting friendly with teen Jedediah Ramesh. He’s an outgoing green fiend so I’m not interested in him. Antonia seems to find him fascinating. I think she’s got a crush!

9.1.23.jpg

Nova: I am, of course, an adult by this point and go off prowling. Antonia does her best to schmooze with the new mayor to get prizes for Rantony – the rooster – and the GOLD egg. Rantony gets a 3rd place ribbon and the egg gets nothing! NOTHING. I will allow Carson to try once more for the pie and maybe that special wool will get a ribbon but this is ridiculous. I am not moving my temple to HoB just to get some wall-décor!

Notes
Those of you who have followed this story will know that the last requirement for resurrecting Nova – over 9k Simstagram followers for her – will know that it was the most painstaking of all the requirements. Each Simstagram Pet usually added only 10-20 followers but sometimes added over 100. I never got to the bottom of what/when/how it was affected. Still, the constant doing it meant that I have had many photos of her to share within these updates and that has been a bonus. The final tally is 12k.
Carson has created the final portrait of Nova’s 9th life and thus completed the museum requirements for this challenge. Having got Nova to her 9th life, all jeopardy is off the table as far as completing this challenge is concerned. But we will continue to follow her musings and adventures along with her household/companions/acolytes.

When Roxanne’s ghost appeared, there was no option to ask how she died so I searched for her on the family tree and it said there. Little did I understand the likelihood of it happening again. Poor Carolyn.
I’ve never had a death by meteorite before and now I’ve had 2, both with non-household members and both using the tripod telescopes which are all on upper levels of our lot. I did once have Carson at a tripod telescope be terrified about seeing a meteorite heading right for him but I sent him to hide under the covers. I realise now that he really was in mortal danger and had every right to be terrified!
I moved the visible meteorite with Carolyn’s grave-marker to be with the others but it disappeared after a while. This would explain the lack of a meteorite when I went looking for evidence of Roxanne’s demise.
Having done a little Googling, this new death came with the Werewolves pack update and only happens with the small telescope. They say it only happens at night – I can’t confirm that… I’m pretty sure it was still daylight for both…

Finchwisk Fair?  More like Finicky Fair!!  Or maybe Finchwick Unfair?
Anyway, another lovely update...for those of us who avoided meteors.  What horrid luck!  I did, however, rather enjoy how Roxanne's ranting about everyone running off to check of Sharon then morphed into, "Actually that was nice of you.  How is she?"  Great stuff!

Just to feed nascent paranoia out there, from Wikipedia:
An estimated 25 million meteoroids, micrometeoroids and other space debris enter Earth's atmosphere each day, which results in an estimated 15,000 tonnes of that material entering the atmosphere each year.

Haha, I see you also use the same HoB acronym for Henford-on-Bagley.  I've always used "The HoB," however, like--you know-The Shire and pronounce it (in my head) as the "hob" in hobble.. *winks
Wow, two deaths by meteorite. I'd read that sims with low Logic have a higher risk of that death; I still prefer the Observatory since it doubles as a woohoo spot, haha.
Best of luck to Carson with his Cowplant Meringue Pie (forgot the exact name...)!
