Chapter I: The Beginning Begins
Dawn rose over Riverview. The fog was receding, and the breaking sun had line-of-sight to most every house on the Riverfront. Along the waterfront, in the upmarket end of town, a moving van snaked its way over the hill.
"The lot is up ahead. It's almost at the end -- by that McMansion, and opposite the gated modern house."
"Yeah, I sees it lady. You just want to be dropped off there? You sures you don't want me to take you to family?"
"No, here is fine. I have builders coming in a few hours."
Lacy Hawthorne had a plan, and it needed executing
fast if she had any hope of becoming Riverview's übermensch. First - acquire a partner. Luckily for her, a certain musician by the name of Jon Lesson lived over the road. Knocking on the door, she heard a voice call out from behind her.
"Are you new here? Welcome to the town!"
"Thanks! What's your name, if I might ask?"
"Yuri Ivanov! I work with Mr Lesson, I was coming by to check on the lad."
"Lacy Hawthorne! Pleasure to meet you."
The large doors swang open, and there stood the pinnacle of a rocker, Jon himself.
"Yuri! Friend, come inside! And who is this you brought?"
"My name is Lacy, sir. I was hoping you could show me around town? I'm awfully new, I just moved in to the empty lot over the road."
Lacy tried to shuffle, to obscure the pile of bags she had thrown down by the letterbox in her hurry.
"Certainly! Welcome to the neighbourhood. Come inside, let me give you the grand tour."
The two hit it off like a house on fire. Barely a few hours in, and sensing the direction of the conversation heading down the right path, Lacy got down on one knee.
"Jon, we should go somewhere more private. And if we go to the park to wed, we can write a few things off for tax purposes."
"Sure, let me pull my $100,000 car to the front."
"Excellent."
And thus, for tax purposes, Jon and Lacy wed on the first night.
The builders had finished their cottage, and the newlyweds had a place to sleep for the night.
And soon two became two-and-a-bit, soon to be three.
As the sun set over the town, and people settled down for the night, nobody could know of the movement in the house on the hill.
As the fog started to roll back in over the hills, nobody could hear the woman speaking.
"Yes, welcome to Riverview, Miss Hawthorne. Soon enough, you will become the übermensch you dream of. But soon enough, you and I will have the conversation you run from. Sleep well. You will need it for the morning."
