How to place an empty lot properly?
« on: January 16, 2011, 12:34:57 PM »
Hey everyone,

I've never used the empty lot tool before (never needed it) and after trying I came up with a question: is it possible to make the lot 'follow' the road orientation? I've noticed that the lot sometimes does this but not always and haven't found a way to do so.

Just like with objects in your house, you can hold down ALT while you click and hold to turn the object however you want.  It takes some practice but it can be done.  Also note that you may not have it directly next to the street, there may be a small strip of grass from the property to the street.  Bit it looks much better than the caddy corner, not aligned properly, that the < and > keys give you.

if the lot doesn't attach itself to the road automatically, and you have to position it, turning it around, etc. then it will always have that little strip of grass that gerrr00 mentioned.

I've been able to zoom in and minimize the amount of grass between the road and the lot.

Thanks a lot to everyone, the problem is I want it to line up it as default lots are... Ah well, if that's not possible what else can I do just place it in the best way it can be placed.

If you want lots placed perfectly next to a road, you have to find straight road for that. Most of the roads with empty space around are curved and that is the main reason why you can't lined them perfectly. Try placing smaller lots too.

If they attach to the road, as in "when you move it closer to the road, it snaps automatically to it", then it will be perfectly aligned.
