How to Torture A. Grim: The Grim Heroes Dynasty
« on: June 17, 2022, 09:31:47 PM »
WORDS... This is where words go.

Welcome to the Grim Heroes Dynasty. Where the crazy gets crazier but does so heroically. Or something like that. Because honestly, how hard can it be? In the words of Mal from Descendants - Just do the thing that doesn't sound fun. Right?

For those of you new to this particular roller coaster - Welcome!  Returning friends - Hello again.

What about the IDC? Well, I'm still heartbroken over Adrien. I haven't given up on it but at the same time, I'm not quite ready to pick it back up. Plus let's let werewolves work out their kinks before I open that file back up.

Oh, I see. You're here to see what I meant by torture. I knew I liked you people. Let's just say that my founder is very familiar but what we're about to get done isn't exactly his usual wheelhouse.

FYI: I'm not sure how much of a story is going to be done with this. The first update isn't much because I feel out of practice with taking screenshots and I wasn't sure what angle I was going to be doing. So here we go. Time for some fun.

Artie: This can't be happening.
Voice: Oh.. it is.
Artie: I refuse to open my eyes. I'm going to see an empty lot and then there is gonna be new rules and No. I refuse to do this today.
Voice: Actually... Oh, wait. I knew I forgot something.

Voice: That's better. Much more you now.
Artie: Nope. Still not doing this. Plus I feel funny.
Voice: I would think so.
Artie: I don't like this feeling.
Voice: It's just the start of puberty. You can do this.
Artie: Excuse me?
Voice: Surprise! You're a teenager again.
Artie: Okay someone better start explaining before I go nuclear.
Voice: Actually.. you can't do that.
Artie: What do you mean?
Voice: No Mean. No Evil. No Mischief.
Artie: Take me back to the bin. Right now.
Voice: Nope. We're doing this.

Artie: How hard can it be she says. Why am I yelling she says. How can she not understand that she's taken a part of me I'm not sure I know how to operate without.
Voice: I can still hear you. I meant to make friends in the neighborhood.. with Sims. Actual Sims.
Artie: Now you want to be specific.
Voice: You know - If you're going to be difficult, I can just go back and tell them that you're too chicken.
Artie: Chicken?
Voice: Clearly, you're just too scared to try and do something good for once.
Artie: I am no chicken. Nor am I scared of anything or anyone.
Voice: Yes but you know it's not just being a hero. You have to help raise a house of heroes.
Artie: So I have to get another wife?
Voice: Nope. Check the mailbox. It has the rule list.
Artie: There's a catch. I know there's a catch. Hey, what's this note?
Voice: What note?

Voice: That's... You should just do this because I say so, not because she did.
Artie: Yeah. Because I've always done what I've been told.
Voice: I see your point. But it's not like you know how to be good. That's why you have me.
Artie: Pfft. You see this. She called me heroic. I got this in the bag. Let's go.
Voice: I... I... Fine. Yes. Let's go. It's time to become a better person.
Artie: By making friends first. Then I'll do my homework.

Artie: Hey Nancy! How you doing?
Nancy: Do I know you?
Artie: Not yet but you're gonna real soon.
Nancy: Look, little boy. I have more neighborhoods to strut around.
Artie: That doesn't sound good for a mid-level criminal. Loitering can cause people to look into things.
Nancy: I beg your pardon.
Artie: Oh I like it when people beg.
Voice: Artie...
Artie: Right right.. Sorry.. no begging allowed.. this time. How about you come help me finish my homework?
Nancy: Why would I do that?
Artie: Because I know what your husband does, too. But do his bosses know?
Nancy: Anything but English.
Artie: Algebra here we come.

Artie: This is a joke.
Voice: It's a bed actually.
Artie: I'm not sleeping on that.
Voice: Well there's a bench across the street.
Artie: Get me something else.
Voice: No. Suffer well.
Artie: I miss my mansion.
Voice: Go to sleep and stop whining.
Artie: I've been nice all day. I should at least get something that won't kill me.
Voice: Consider it a challenge to survive the bed until I can get you something else. Until you make some cash, this is the best you get.
Artie: Fine. Fine. We got this.

Morgan: I can't believe how much you've done this week already.
Artie: Like it's hard?
Morgan: Are you kidding?
Artie: No?
Morgan: I've never known someone to be so motivated to do so many awesome things.
Artie: Just doing what I can.
Morgan: Hey.. how about we go back to my place and hang out some more?
Artie: Absolutely. You've got fun things at your house.

Dominic: So you just baked him a cake?
Morgan: I mean you told him he couldn't.
Dominic: That seems a little underhanded if you ask me.
Artie: We just wanted to cook together one more time, sir. But you told me that it was inappropriate so she finished the cake instead of wasting money.
Dominic: But why are there candles?
Artie: Because it's my birthday?
Dominic: It is?
Artie: Well yea, or we wouldn't have made a cake.
Voice: Toeing the line there, buddy.
Artie: -out the side of his mouth- Listen, this is not as easy as I make it look.
Dominic: Are you talking to yourself?
Artie: No, sir. I'm a dynasty Sim so I have a voice that speaks to me and no one else. Usually, we hold the crazy in at other lots but she's getting pushy.
Dominic: A dynasty? You?
Artie: -heavy sigh- Always. Just... always.

**Funniest Moment of the Week**

Geoffrey: And this is my lovely wife but she's not for sale.
Nancy: Geoff.. my water just broke.. in the rain.
Geoffrey: Okay honey.
Nancy: Are you coming home with me?
Geoffrey: I can't until someone buys the fossils.
Nancy: Really? You're killing me, Smalls.

Dear Journal,

Because talking to myself isn't enough, now I'm writing letters to myself. Being good is boring. Being responsible is boring and frustrating. Allowing myself to care how people are feeling is exhausting. That being said, I finally did it. I became the compassionate, responsible, and good-mannered teenager that no one ever thought I could be.

Because this tiny place doesn't have a stove, I thought I would use the Fyres house to bake a cake. I forgot that people don't like when you do that. I felt bad when Morgan finished it all on her own. Though I was grateful I wasn't going to have to figure something else out before I passed out. I have never struggled to keep my needs happy as much as I have this week. It's ridiculous. I forgot what it was like to start something and not have support from other people. Mainly I mean that I forgot what it was like to not have other people's money. Don't get me wrong, the tiny house is cute. I understand the benefits, I do. I'm just not used to it. I'm sure if I had access to the forums I could find a strategy that would make the constant elbow banging worth it. For now, I just make sure the fridge always has ice.

Along with becoming a better person and finally reaching adulthood, I've managed to tick off all the other things on the list of requirements. I probably didn't have to rush through everything, but I'm not sure I've ever known any other way. The voice, which is both familiar and not, says that I don't have to be blood-related to the heroes that come after me. This isn't a generational game. That's certainly different. I'm not sure I'm ready to just adopt a kid right now though. Maybe next week.

I've looked over the projects to better the world and some seem easy while others are daunting. This isn't like the other times when I could just wake up out of the bin and know that I was going to be the Boss again someday. The voice said I should be a cop which is hilarious. Who better to catch a bad guy than a reformed bad guy, am I right? No... I don't know. We shall see. My brain is a fog and I'm having trouble remembering things that happened after Lunar Lakes. I keep thinking I'm forgetting something but I can't tell you what it is. I just know that if she wants me to do this, then I probably owe it to her to try.

Time for bed. A new week starts in the morning and with it a new direction.

Awww, Artie! I am so freaking proud of you!
You've not only aged up into a compassionate, well-mannered nice guy with all your reqs completed in a week, you even managed to keep the evil snark in check!
This dynasty is definitely a new era in The Life of the Many-Faceted Artie Grim!

Artie - the perfect anti-hero! There's definitely one project that's in his wheelhouse. Is Dexter his middle name?
NPCs going into labour on the same lot is so awkward. I always leave asap. Fancy Good Geoffrey not rising to the challenge!

Heeeeey, nice to see you here with a new story! I love that Artie finally had to learn to be a decent sim. Who knows where this strange new challenge will take him?

@oshizu - Artie has always been multi-faceted though a lot of it was behind closed doors where he was used to test everything in Sims 3 and often in Sims 4. Just this past weekend my niece made me use him to test the new werewolf pack.  Also, let's not make his head too big. He needs to remain the good guy  ;D

@Granny Lawlor - He really is but no, Dexter isn't his name. Though you're right. It does seem like something he would do, doesn't it?
As for the labor, it's just so annoying. Though I guess it's better than the old days where the whole lot would stop and panic.

@Rhoxi Why thank you! And I don't even know. But sometimes it's good to get out of your comfort zone. Even if it's WAY out in this case.  ;D

Thank you to everyone checking in. The updates are going to be kind of fluctuated because my work schedule is awful some days. Plus my niece was in an all-star season for softball which meant we were busy with a lot of games until recently. So I've actually played to the point of adopting the fourth hero. Just need to catch up on the story! My screenshots aren't as plentiful for this challenge because I'm trying a different style.

Either way, I hope you all enjoy it as much as I enjoy playing/sharing it. Time to check back in.

Dear Journal,

Yeah, it's me again. Just when I thought I couldn't get any more boring. You'll never guess what I've managed. To get worse.

My second week of spring went by quickly and I feel like I did nothing. I spent most of it either tending to my new garden which I've decided is my first project. Or I've had my nose buried in my university coursework. Something about going to Foxbury feels familiar but I can't put my finger on it. After looking more into this particular dynasty, I realized that I could perhaps choose one path and see all the places that it takes me. Which could be fun. Perhaps. That and I don't mind keeping my brain easy. I didn't get accepted until the middle of the week which makes for awkwardness in getting things done. But it happens.

I've also taken a job as a gardener since half my time is spent on growing things. The cash has helped things get a little better. There are still some days when I can't get every need met. It's almost humbling. The Voice.. the watcher.. you know... the other person that talks to me regularly has been helpful. Every now and then I hear her mumble something about potions and we move on.

On Day 14, I went to a little place called Henford-On-Bagley. They have a Crumplebottom there that reminds me of my darling Aggie. I miss her and the only way to get back home to her is to finish this. This woman was of a cheerful disposition and chocolatey goodness and she had a very surprising hint to check out the grocer's store. She told me to look for anything sparkly. I had no idea what she meant so when I checked in, imagine my surprise when she had both a golden egg and golden milk! I'm surprised the Sims in the third universe didn't hear the Watcher's gleeful squeal.

Though at first, she didn't tell me what the big deal was. After checking in with a friend, she finally told me to drink the milk. (The egg we have hidden away in storage for later apparently.) One of the things that I've maintained since I woke up in this new fourth universe is that I miss my red glow. The milk made me sparkle gold. It was close enough and considering what the whole goal was for this dynasty almost fitting. I spent some time in my garden and just like that, I finished the first project. Twenty-one perfect plants across three categories. It almost felt too easy. Though I'm not complaining, let me tell ya.

On a side note: I saw a werewolf with my red glow and I know what I want to do when I get some free time soon, if ever. Though someone told me there were many drawbacks to going furry. I just want to glow for a little bit like the old days, is that too much to ask?

I digress.

I know that if I want to get this experiment in my frustration over with that I should hurry up with grabbing the next generation I just wanted to get my feet wet I suppose. With one project completed under my belt, a semester at university done (Something I aced btw. See attached report card.), and the completion of one of the weirdest holidays I've ever experienced - I decided it was time. I looked into the available children and decided that as a single man who couldn't really seem to keep myself completely taken care of, it would be best to get a child and not an infant or toddler. The watcher says toddlers learn things with proper parenting, but honestly, I'd rather give an older child a home. Plus I can't help but feel she was the best of the bunch. She's a vibrant little thing just like me and she's very sweet. I can't help but feel that she will keep me on my toes though. May the next week's adventure begin.

Everyone's favorite Insane Erratic Red Guy

First Semester Final Grades.

Artie: Audrey, you just don't know how honored you should be that I'm growing you. Gardens have never been my deal, but one does what they must. That and while I'm not acting like it now, I assure you that between the two of us - I'm the one that should be feared. Which is why you shouldn't ever try to kill me. Got it?
Voice: What are you doing?
Artie: I was feeling a little lonely so I was making friends with my newest garden addition.
Voice: Ahh well... carry on if you must. Bed might be good soon too.

Artie: It's a pleasure to meet you. I'm Artie Grim.
Boy: Ahh. Your reputation proceeds you, Artie. I'm delighted to make your acquaintance. Let's be friends, shall we? I'm Alexander Goth.
Artie: Like Hades you are.
Alexander: Excuse me? I assure you that I am.
Artie: I... I don't know what to say to that. Your parents are Bella and Morty?
Alexander: Yes, exactly.
Artie: Well then. I'm so sorry, my boy.
Voice: Artie...
Alexander: Why?
Artie: For my response when I was in shock of course. I just couldn't believe you're a teenager already that's all.
Voice: Riiiight. Smooth.

Artie: Where did they come from?
Voice: It's Bunny Day.
Artie: What is Bunny Day?
Voice: It's a holiday.
Artie: And the gnomes?
Voice: You need to appease them with their favorite things and they will give us seed packets.
Artie: But why?
Voice: That's just how it works.

Artie: I swear I heard them giggle before they poofed.
Voice: Maybe.
Artie: Makes me miss the gnomes we had back on Lunar Lakes.
Voice: I think everyone misses the gnomes from the third universe.
Artie: We should go back sometime.
Voice: That seems.. I mean I guess we could. After this of course.
Artie: Of Course.

Artie: Thanks for coming over, Morgan.
Morgan: No problem. Just glad to see you since your birthday, you've been busy.
Artie: More like cooped up. But you know.. classes are classes. But you are my best friend.
Morgan: Aww that's so sweet.
Artie: I mean who else would be my best friend other than a ginger.
Voice: -snorts-
Morgan: Ha. Ha. So.. you really going to go to the adoption agency now?
Artie: Yep. Wish me luck.
Morgan: You know it's like 10 pm and most of those kids should be asleep, right?
Artie: Well yea.. but I want one now.
Morgan: Okay weirdo. Good luck.

Nadia: Yea! I'm adopted!
Artie: Where'd you go... Oh, there you are.  Excited huh?
Nadia: You bet.
Voice: Oh.. I should probably figure out how to make her a space. She can't live in the tiny place with you.
Artie: Build another little hovel for her then?
Voice: That might work.

Artie: You're a Grim now, Nadia.
Nadia: Thanks. Do I call you Dad?
Artie: You can call me whatever makes you comfortable.
Nadia: We'll figure it out later. Okay?
Artie: Sounds good. Ready to go see the room she made for you?
Nadia: YES! Did you get me a stuffed animal? I love animals. One day I want a pet.
Voice: Oh.. Animal Enthusiast huh?
Artie: Is that so?
Nadia: Yep!
Voice: Oy I miss the days when you could see all the information before you snagged the children and pets. Let's do this, guys.

Hello my Non-judgmental friend,

Raising a child by yourself is not the easiest thing I've ever done. Yes, I realize I have a watcher so I'm not completely alone, but I'm the one with an actual body that interacts with said child. A child that has taken on the task of socializing everyone. That familiar and annoying voice I can't place has gotten her to go into overachieving mode.

First day as a Grim and she was already in scouts and working on her badges. She had three of her aspirations started by Saturday's first Scout meeting and when we crashed on Sunday, she had almost completed two and managed to get five out of nine badges done. As a former Scout, I'm proud of her but between homework for the new semester, keeping us both fed, maintaining my garden, finishing every daily task for work, and somehow keeping myself in a good mood - I'm exhausted.

I have continued to make friends with all the people that wander into my yard whether I want them to or not. One particular stuck around one night for whatever reason and then suddenly came at me with an offer that I absolutely had to refuse.

I didn't even have to have the watcher tell me what to say when this came up. I've never been asked this question that I can think of. Voice said she hadn't seen it asked either. Besides, I know how to do the whole eternal life thing. Been there and done that a few times. As for school, the end of the semester came and I can't say I'm surprised by the results.

It was good to show Nadia how important our studies are, right? Of course, I also made sure she understood that the lesson is to always strive for your best. And since I am the best. Nothing else would do for me. She has since also achieved an A in her primary schooling. Sadly, even with all of her scout badges finished in her first week and an A in class - she's stuck in her age group until her actual birthday. Letting her be little and have some fun is always good. That and I've been watching her and once I told her about the tasks that we've been chosen for - well she got started. One week in and she's done a few of them already. Some without even meaning to but that's the joy of her goals. It's just things she would be doing anyway. I enjoy the fact that she cleans up after herself.

I can't say much else has really been going on. It's all gardening, work, homework, classes, assisting Nadia, and feeding us both. When friends want to hang out, I just invite them over to wherever the two of us are unless Nadia is done her homework and wants to go out. Sometimes I wonder what's become of me but then I remember that we're trying something new. More fun will come the next time around. Perhaps.

Enough of all that. Summer has started and I need to make sure that the plants are getting properly watered. The final semester has started too and I'm not about to break my streak of hard work. Until next time...

Burning Red Man

Artie: Hey you're doing great, kiddo.
Nadia: Thanks, Artie. Think I need more macaroni?
Artie: No. The answer is always more glitter. Just don't get any on me. And be sure to send it off to charity. They love that stuff.

Nadia: Hey! I'm Nadia.
Natasha Talla: I'm Nat. What's up?
Nadia: Not much. I think we're in gym together.
Nat: Oh yea! We played on the swings.
Nadia: I got some in my yard, wanna hang out?
Nat: Sure.
Voice: Better than standing in the middle of the street.

Nadia: Wow. There's really a baby in there!
Clara: Yep. Did you think it was a ball or something?
Nadia: No... I don't know. How did you get a baby in your belly?
Clara: That's a question for your dad.
Nadia: Last time I asked he said only a female could tell me.
Clara: Of course he did.

Nadia: So wait.. you're both Goths?
Avery Goth (blonde): Yep we bot got adopted. Mortimer wanted me.
Major: And Bella wanted me.
Nadia: That's awesome. Hey, you guys want to hang out and become friends?
Avery: We've got some time. Why not?

Nadia: Thomas! Guess what?
Thomas Bheeda: What?
Nadia: I got my last scout badge!
Thomas: That's awesome!
Nadia: I know. Guess what else?

Thomas: What?
Nadia: You're my best friend.
Thomas: You're mine too, Nadia.
Nadia: Wanna go sing Karaoke while Artie finishes with the flea market? He has to haggle but everyone is watching the performer so I think it's gonna take a while.
Thomas: Yeah that sounds fun!

What a great read! You know I gotta ask about little Nadia: alien or cc skin tone? Since Neighborhood Stories came out, I've been seeing some half-alien (or at least fun color) NPCs wandering about, but it's rare. Despite all of Artie's complaints about how hard this all is, he seems to be doing mighty well. That faker.  :P

I must confess that I peeked at your Stats post and note that you've already adopted your 5th hero by Day 70.
WTH?

Artie's Natural History Museum with all its completed collections is simply insane!

Sorry I haven't updated. I've been on vacation and things were hectic at work before that. Yay for understaffing and monthly inventory.  That being said.  Yes I do keep the stats on the spoiler page and while I was on Hero #5 nine days ago. Since then I have completed this challenge. It ran from June 15 to July 13th.  If you do not want to see everything before it's officially posted as part of the story. Don't read it!

I will be continuing the updates now that my marathoning is over but it's not often I get uninterrupted playtime beyond walks with the dog.  I just wanted to say something because I'm happy. It ended at like 11:45 PM last night before bed.  The Grim Heroes did 28 projects in 130 days - ending officially at 6:16 am on Spring 18 of Year 2.

To answer questions:

Nadia is a cc skintone that I use for Artie and many others throughout my stories. And I think Artie finds it hard because I have to make him do things and stop him from having fun. Oh and he is constantly trying to insult someone so I have to watch him like a hawk.

Thank you, everyone. I hope the wait is worth it.

Update #4 -

Hello dear,

I guess I should start with how my own week is going. First off - I live in Oasis Springs and summer has begun. The world is a heat wave and I'm so glad for conditioned air and shaded gardens. Nadia doesn't seem to mind but she's a studious little thing. She tells me that she wants to take care of animals when she gets older and I think that's a perfectly heroic choice to start with. I'll even adopt an animal for her I think.

Tuesday marked the final day of my third semester. I have achieved all twelve credits that I need and you are listening to an honest-to-goodness graduated university student. I have received a distinguished degree in psychology with honors. I couldn't let my streak fail so of course, my report card looks much like it has the last two weeks.

The second week of Nadia's childhood went much like the first. With my assistance, she was able to help her finish all of her aspirations and all but one of her heroic requirements by the time her birthday came around on Saturday. Everyone at Hogan's was very excited for her and she made a few friends while we were there. But I had to make sure that Don Lothario knew I was looking at him.

She did ask for a very special consideration now that it was her birthday and when these kids give me that look, I'm not sure there's a power in the universe that works better on this old heart (aside from the boss of course). So next week I'll be giving her her wish. I can't wait to see her face.

I kind of wish I could see yours. Anyway. Ciao, bella.

Dr. Grim

Female Grad: I can't believe you wore the wedges, man! It was a joke.
Artie: These things are doing such things for my back I can't believe you're *not* wearing them.
Female: You can't be serious.
Artie: Deadly.

Voice: I got you something.
Artie: A graduation gift?
Voice: Something like that yea.
Artie: What is it?
Voice: Check your inventory.

Artie: Your present is a gift that you bought with my own points?
Voice: Don't give me that look. I just remembered you could have it unless you like the idea of getting a few wrinkles.
Artie: Wait... I'm allowed to stay young?
Voice: You betcha.
Artie: Forgiven.

Artie: That was just... ugh why?
Voice: You needed to drink cowplant essence
Artie: Yes but why did I have to help make it?
Voice: I didn't think of any other way.
Artie: Sure you didn't.

Artie: this is kind of relaxing isn't it?
Nadia: Yeah sure.
Summer: Now just stand like that until something bites.
Artie: Excellent advice.
Nadia: Uh huh. This is why she's the expert.
Artie: You wound me.
Nadia: The wrong kind of challenge remember?

Artie: Now think of a wish, whisper it to me really carefully, and blow out the candles.
Nadia: I don't think that's how it works.
Artie: If you want it, that's exactly how it works.

Nadia: Uhh.
Don: Just blow one more time. You got this.
Artie: -glares- Don't talk to her about blowing.

Artie: Well? How does it feel?
Nadia: That you owe me something.
Artie: Excellent.  Now let's establish some ground rules real quick.

Nadia is beautiful.
Lol, she just celebrated her teen birthday and she's just an A in high school from aging up to a YA!
