Literally Seven Heroes 6.4: Making Over Mua Pelam

Literally Seven Heroes 6.4: Making Over Mua Pelam

Mara: I can’t believe we’ve had to swap our clothes for overalls! Just so everyone is equal which is total rubbish. In Capitol the clothes get swankier by the day!
Benita: They’re quite comfy, even if they’re not very flattering. Katniss actually looks cute.
Mara:  I’m not sure it was a good idea - coming over to Mua Pelam.
Benita: We’re not leaving District 4 and I’m sure we could swim here somehow. It’ll be fine….wait!
Mara: Oh my goodness! What’s happened to our old lot?
Katniss: I don’t remember it very well but…was it a trailer park when we were here?

6.4.1.jpg

Mara: How many families are there on this lot?
Benita: I count 6 separate trailers. Do you think they’re all fisherfolk? There have been a lot of new faces down at the docks.

6.4.2.jpg

Esme: After I finished exploring the cave and saw what they’ve done here, I went up to the top house! You won’t believe it. Some swanky modernist mansion. Goodness knows who lives there!

6.4.9.jpg

Elizabeth: I just can’t believe what they’ve done to Mua Pelam. After all Darwii’s work to clean it up! Maybe this will make me feel better. And this...
Benita: Haven’t you got work tomorrow? Should you be drinking those?
Elizabeth: They never let me operate. I only get the ones that need shots or medicine. Did I ever tell you how much I love you, little Benita? Itty Bitty Benitta....

6.4.3.jpg

Elizabeth: Oh-oh! This emergency case collapsed at the front desk. This doesn’t feel right. I really shouldn’t have had all those drinks last night. Phew! All closed up and fixed!

6.4.4.jpg

Katniss: I’ve been really busy lately. After school I join Lessa when she’s at the store. I do my homework and then socialise and dance. Back home, one of my chores is to set the table. I don’t know why. We hardly ever eat here.

6.4.5.jpg

Katniss: I spend a lot of time playing the violin. Can you see Granny Esme photo bombing me? It’s only fair. She was coming to mentor me. Those roses? Everyone’s encouraged to grow them to show support for President Snow. Granny Esme says someone came round asking if we were dissidents because we weren’t growing any. We put them in straight away – down both sides of the front path.

6.4.6.jpg

Katniss: Granny Esme also mentored me in Knitting. In fact, she shared Sacred Knitting Knowledge with me. I got to be an expert knitter in no time. I’ve already knitted 3 items!

6.4.8.jpg

Mara: You know they’ve not been letting anyone across the bridge by the Beach Bar? They’re building something over there. It’s huge – a great monolith of a place. All black and blue. I have no idea what it’s for. No-one’s talking at work. Something’s going on. Something not good.

Literally Seven Heroes 6.5: May The Odds Be Ever In Our Favour

Lessa: Happy Birthday, Katniss!
Elizabeth: You’ve done so well with all your childhood traits.
Esme: This Tiny home and living outdoors – you’ve thrived, Child!
Katniss: Yay for me!

6.5.1.jpg

Katniss: Wow! I’ve only just aged up and I’ve got a text asking me to choose Volunteering or Odd Jobs! Are they watching us?
Esme: Hush, Child! Choose which one. It’s best if we fall in line when it’s not important.
Katniss: Can I at least change my hair and outfit?
Elizabeth: There’s not much choice in outfits. Why do you think I don’t bother changing out of my work things?

6.5.2.jpg

Darwi: Thanks Lessa. I really wanted a decent photo of you, all grown up, for my collection. I just wish I had space for my backdrop…
Lessa: I wish I had a decent outfit to pose in!

6.5.3.jpg

Random Friend: Hey Esme! Would you like to be a florist?
Esme: Do I have any choice?
Random Friend: The suggestion came down from a top level so…
Esme: I understand. Well, at least it’s in my wheelhouse!

6.5.9a.jpg

Servo-bot: Scanning, Scanning, Uploading….
Lessa: He’s asking for you by name. What do you think he wants?
Darwi: I have no idea. I suppose I’d better go and see.

6.5.4.jpg

Darwi: OK. So you want me to makeover the Hedgehog Café? I didn’t know you owned it!
Servo-Bot: If you just look at my mood board…I like Boho style. You’ll need to guess at my colours.
Darwi (some time later): Well, re-arranged with a Boho style. What do you think?
Servo-Bot: Very nice. Scanning, Scanning, Uploading.

6.5.5.jpg

Elizabeth: I got a raise and look! My new work outfit is in my favourite colour! Isn’t that great?
Esme: I’m quite fond of my work wear too.
Benita: I’ve got used to mine. It’s quirky and the hours let me get out to…you know.
Mara: I’m at the top of politics now. Well, as far as I can go this time without getting into President Snow’s inner circle.
Darwi: Wouldn’t that be helpful?
Mara: Put it like this…no-one stays in it for long and no-one knows where ex-members go…
Katniss: What about me? I’ve just aged up to a Young Adult with one of Esme’s magic cakes. What job should I do?
Mara: Capitol still think you’re a Teen. You can help Lessa at her store while you work on your requirements. No need to draw attention to yourself just yet.

6.5.6.jpg

Yuuma: Hey neighbours! We thought we’d bring over some Extra Food but I see you’ve already got cake. It looks like birthday cake – has someone just had a birthday?
Lessa: Um, no! It’s just a regular Honey Cake. No candles. No birthday…

6.5.7.jpg

Esme: Everyone just wants Red Roses arrangements. Just as well we’ve got so many planted.

6.5.10.jpg

Katniss: 7 knitted items. With my skill maxed, those cute teddies take no time. I’ll donate all of those. We can sell the pouffe in the store and the hat on Plopsy. The chicken jumper will go to our best hen!

6.5.10a.jpg

Katniss: I was desperate to visit a real gym so I snuck out here. There was a paparazzi outside but I’m not famous so he just ignored me. I was a bit surprised to see our neighbour Yuuma here but the the big revelation was the TV. I’ve never really seen one before. There was this show on politics but it was all flashy lights and slogans. More like entertainment than real information.

6.5.11.jpg

Lessa: Hey girls! Did you see it’s the lottery today. I just don’t think it’s worth entering this time. The odds are against winning!

6.5.11a.jpg

Mara: We’ve got to enter. There’s been a directive that everyone has to buy a ticket.
Lessa: Well that makes it even less likely that we’ll win!
Elizabeth: What’s the prize anyway?
Benita: Down at the fishing docks, they’re saying that it’s a life-changing prize so it must be a lot of money.
Elizabeth: It sounds suspicious to me.
Mara: Whatever the prize is, there’s a 3-line whip for everyone to buy a ticket so we have to.
Lessa: Well! May the odds be ever in our favour!

Notes
•   The Lottery screenshot was taken some Sim weeks previously to be used in this week’s narrative
•   Although the narrative is restricting the Household to their home world of Sulani/District 1, Katniss sneaking out to Willow Creek isn’t breaking any challenge rules.

Between coming to the end of your challenge, and all the apocalyptic themes, the lottery - suddenly I feel the need to go re-read the Hollow Men!

i don't understand and must have missed the story about it but... why the many un-Sulani-esque lots encroaching on the island's natural beauty?

So close to the finish line now!

No-one really knows what's going on. As you say, wrong things are happening!
Will things become clear?
Will things be made right?
Will this Watcher collapse under the weight of her meta-narrative?
Maybe she has already!
Wait! What's that? Sorry, I've got to go. President Snow is on the line....

Literally Seven Heroes 6.6: Read The Small Print

Benita: So, Hondo, this has been fun but I need to get a bowl of Overnight Oats and then I’ve got stuff to do!
Hondo: Good game!

6.6.1.jpg

Benita: I did it! I got to level 5 of The Resistance. There was a big crowd waiting to congratulate me. Where’s the photo of that?
Watcher: Well, I was very excited about this screenshot!

6.6.1a.jpg

Benita: It was amazing. The First Order is really struggling now and The Resistance are making a real difference.
Katniss: That sounds wonderful. I wish I could have joined you but I’ve been too busy doing all these Odd Jobs the agency keeps sending me.
Lessa: Yes. I was hoping you could help me in the shop but you keep getting these offers and you have to take what you can get.

6.6.2.jpg

Lessa: Well, you certainly can buy this old chair. Are you sure you wouldn’t like some of the more expensive items? Like that PC over there? Only one careful user.
Elder: Where has all this stuff come from? Is it hot?
Lessa: No – it’s all legit stuff that we bought in better times. We don’t have room for it now although we’re selling some stuff off that we really like. We’re only keeping one of everything, except beds, for the 7 of us. The queue for the loo and shower in the morning is not a fun thing!
Wait a minute! I think I see that Servo-bot eyeing up that top-end PC. I’m coming!

6.6.3.jpg

Mara: If I sail around the island at night, maybe I’ll get a look at that monstrosity over the bridge…

6.6.4.jpg

Darwi: Hey Benita, could you just get the mail for me, while I finish my stretching. It’s probably more grateful thanks from Clients. You should have seen the new bathroom I put in at the Bathe de Rill yesterday!
Benita: OK. And then I’m off for a run.
Archie Rooster: Don’t mind me in my stripey jumper. Katniss grabbed me and put it on before I could get a squawk out!

6.6.6.jpg

Darwi: What? I don’t even remember this guy! Why would anyone sign up for something like this!

6.6.6a.jpg

Lessa: Oh Libby! The authorities have shut my Thrift Store down! I’d finally started got some good sales, including that PC that Benita always hogged, but now it’s all gone. We’ve put the stock in storage but I don’t know what we’ll do with it.
You’re such a good listener. I know I’m friends with 6 other strays but you’re my favourite – adventurous, vocal and hairy as you are! Actually, you know what? I’m going to adopt you. We’ve got space for a little one and I think you’ll cheer us all up.

6.6.8.jpg

Tomoko: Yay! It’s Friday! The lottery gets drawn tonight! It’s going to be great!
Lessa: Um – what? Just a minute. I’ve got a text. Apparently we’ve been sent tickets for the lottery event. Not only that, but they say to arrive early because the ticket includes makeovers….
Tomoko: Wow! You're so lucky!

6.6.9.jpg

Esme: Oh – I don’t like this. I don’t like this at all. Has someone got a wrap I can cover all this exposed flesh with?
Mara: It’s kind of nice to be out of dungarees.
Benita: But a bit odd to all be dressed the same.
Darwi: So this is what they’ve been building over the bridge. It doesn’t really sit well in the Islands, does it?
Mara: Surely they’ve not built it especially for tonight!
Clement: Ah! There they are! Lovely girls! Let’s get you to your seats.

6.6.10.jpg

Clement: Good Evening and welcome to the Lottery Draw. My name is….Clement Frost and I’ll be your host this evening….let’s have our first act…before the draw itself
…There – live entertainment – you can’t beat it. Now it’s time…

6.6.10a.jpg

Clement: Who is going to win our life-changing prize for them and their family?
Lessa: Why doesn’t he just get on with it?
Clement: You’ve all been waiting for this moment….
Darwi: Announce it, already, so we can get off for a swim.
Clement: and the Lucky Lotto Winner is….

6.6.10b.jpg

Clement: Elizabeth Best and her household. Up you come! That’s right – you’ve won!
(Confetti falling from ceiling, people rushing on to hug and congratulate, cue closing, celebratory music, roll credits)

6.6.11.jpg

Mara: Wow! So we’ve won.
Clement: Yes, darling Mara! Your whole household has won!
Mara: But what have we won?
Clement: A mansion in an amazing location and entry into a whole interactive, experimental, heroic project.

6.6.13.jpg

Elizabeth: The house sounds good but tell us more…
Clement: It’s all part and parcel. Look – it’s a live-streamed phenomenon. You live in the house and go about your daily tasks and people around the Simverse watch and…make helpful suggestions.
Mara: Helpful suggestions?
Clement: You know! Like interesting activities, outfits to wear.
Mara: Why would anyone bother to do that?
Clement: Look – you lovely girls have done so much in various ways, interesting ways, for our Simverse. There’s a lot of interest in you and your household. Take Libby for example.
Lessa: I only just adopted her yesterday. How do you know about her?
Clement: Everyone thinks she’s adorable. A real asset to potential ratings. It's what the Simverse needs to cheer them up in these dark days. They need heroes and they want to know all about them and be involved in their lives.
Elizabeth: No! Absolutely not! There’s no way we’re doing this.

6.6.14.jpg

Clement: OK. Here’s the bottom line, Girl! We know all about your Elder-Fitness program. We know all about Lessa’s black market Thrift Store and, thanks to information found on a PC bought there, we know all about Benita’s trips to Batuu.
Elizabeth: I told Lessa to take the other one! Bother it.
Clement: Bother it, indeed! So, unless you fall in line and go along with this project, you’re all heading for the mines in District 12. Now summer’s here, they should be very toasty indeed!

6.6.15.jpg

Saturday morning
Esme: Well, it’s certainly a mansion!
Darwi: But – District 13 – everyone knows that the people here are weird.
Mara: Strangerville Overlook – well, it lives up to it’s name!
Elizabeth: And there are cameras everywhere! Not in the bathrooms, thank goodness. But everywhere else!
Katniss: Not down in the cellar but that’s only got enough room for our storage boxes.
Mara: Have you seen we’ve got new outfits? There’s a sort of Western theme going on…
Esme: Wait a minute. I've just had my job changed to Opening Act in the Entertainer career.
Benita: And I've changed to be a Regular Contributor in the Writing career. No more fish for me!

Notes
•   The Lottery screenshot was taken some Sim weeks earlier. It was nearly perfect for the narrative that Elizabeth won (Katniss would have been ideal) and I’ve never had a Sim win the lottery before.
•   I will be trying to accept all invitations, job offers, etc that the game suggests, notwithstanding the remaining project requirements.

To the reader – I write this up as I play so it is possible for you to join in the Sim Games experience with suggestions for outfits, jobs, activities. Clement and his team will consider all suggestions for their entertainment potential. I will try to leave time after posting each chapter before moving the story on…

I've seen it quite a few times. I've only ever had my sims take the "less than 14 days" option. I'd love to know what happens if they say yes but I'm usually in the middle of some strategy I don't want to derail.

Literally Seven Heroes 7.1: Libby Steals The Show

Literally Seven Heroes 7.1: Libby Steals The Show

Clement: Well, Katniss, I think we can safely say that Libby stole the show this week.
Katniss: She certainly has stolen all our hearts in the household, Clement.
Clement: This shot was when the team realised that she had star potential.
Katniss: She never got to have pups of her own before she aged up to an Elder almost as soon as we entered the house, but I think we can see that she would have been a great mother.
Clement: Is that the rooster chick that you traded for meat as soon as it aged up, Katniss?
Katniss: Now you mention it, yes, I suppose it is. You see, we have to grow or buy in all of our food and we didn’t need another rooster. Esme’s breeding the chicks for meat.
Clement: I see. Some of our viewers have strong views on that.
Katniss: We’re farming grubs but…
Clements: Let’s move on

6.7.1.jpg

Clement: Tell me what’s happening here, Lessa.
Lessa: This was one of the 2 visits to the vets this week. I had to take a PTO from work which I hope was OK?
Clement: The viewers wouldn’t have had it any other way. How is the military career?
Lessa: Well, Katniss is getting on quicker than me but I’d rather have the lower responsibility.
Clement: And Libby recovered?
Lessa: Both times. The vet wasn’t as gentle as I’d have liked but they say that clients in the business make the worst vet visitors.

6.7.2.jpg

Clement: Let’s turn to Darwi. You were taking Libby for a walk here?
Darwi: Yes. It’s a good way to get to know the neighbourhood.
Clement: Am I right in thinking this is one of the poor sufferers of Strangerville Syndrome? Some…mental condition?
Darwi: I don’t think anyone has worked out what’s going on. They aren’t aggressive but it is quite unnerving at times. Sometimes they just come and stare at the house. Mind you, we’re getting fans of the show doing that too.

6.7.6.jpg

Clement: Lessa – you shared this image on Simstagram. I believe it went viral!
Lessa: Libby had gone into heat, even though she was an elder. I thought taking a photo would cheer her up. I don’t know why it’s gone viral.
Clement (clearing throat): No, er, it’s remarkable how certain things spark the imagination!

6.7.9.jpg

Clement: Elizabeth, am I right in thinking that this was the Premiere launch on TV.
Elizabeth: Yes, we all wanted to watch it.
Clement: All except Libby!
Elizabeth: Yes, dogs are clever but they’re not TV fans.
Clement: What are those floating blobs.
Elizabeth: They’re the drones that follow each of us. The more we stream, the more followers we get. The studio try to get us to compete for the most followers – it’s silly really.

6.7.10.jpg

Clement: But Esme is losing?
Elizabeth: I wouldn’t say she’s losing the competition. She doesn’t really engage with it.
Clement: I understand that her drone has had to be replaced twice already.
Elizabeth: Ah well, I guess she is losing. Losing drones, ha ha.
Clement: She does realize that’s why the fans keep changing her job?
Esme: What!?!?! I thought it was you bunch of jokers messing me about! I’ve been an Entertainer, and Artist and now an Astronaut! I hate changing job each time!

6.7.14a.jpg

Clement: There was a surprising demise, I understand, Mara?
Mara: Yes. It was so odd. This lady turned up with a gift for Katniss – a hand-crafted guitar – and then didn’t really like hearing her try to play it – you know. We’ve been told that we have to try to use the things people send in – it helps viewing figures?
Clement: Cut! Mara, please! Don’t let the viewers see behind the curtain, remember?
Mara: Sorry, Clement, I forgot!
Clement: We’ll cut that out. OK – Action! And what happened next?
Mara: She keeled over! Grim turned up and the whole household went into mourning. Even Libby!

6.7.16.jpg6.7.19.jpg6.7.20.jpg

Esme: Take that shot off the screens! Tain’t right, showing Lessa in her night things.
Clement: It’s only 1 of the 5 night outfits she can choose from. After all, the viewers have voted several makeovers for you. Besides, we’re talking about Libby here.
Esme: The dog liked a dance. That’s all. Why everyone’s silly over watching her, I couldn’t tell you!

6.7.21.jpg

Clement: You mean you won’t miss Libby?
Esme: Just because I don’t show it, don’t mean I don’t care.
Clement: The viewers know about the household dealing with grief by crying in bed.
Esme: That’s nobody’s business but ours.
Clement: Can I just say that the whole of the watching public share your loss.
Esme (sniffs): Well, thank you, I suppose.

That motives trial pop up - I've never seen it before. How strangely on point!  :o
I've seen it quite a few times. I've only ever had my sims take the "less than 14 days" option. I'd love to know what happens if they say yes but I'm usually in the middle of some strategy I don't want to derail.

If you click yes your sim leaves to go into a rabbithole where their needs steadily go down and they try to last as long as possible.. aka they go to the motive trials
they/he pronouns please!

Thanks for clearing that up. One day I'll let one go :)

Literally Seven Heroes 7.2: After Shocks

Clement: Good Evening and welcome to this week’s round-up. I’m joined today by the legend that is Caesar Flickerman as we sift through the week’s happenings. Welcome, Caesar.
Caesar: Well, thank you for having me, Clement. I must say, this series is shaping up to be one of the best.
Clement: It’s the first in the series, Caesar.
Caesar: As I say, the best – unmissable TV, Clement.

Clement: Let’s look first, Caesar, at the current scores for the housemates:

Elizabeth   18,900
Mara      18,490
Darwi      16,395
Benita      10,415
Lessa      10,125
Esme      9,770
Katniss      1,750

Clement: First, let me explain that there have been malfunctions with Katniss’ drone and profile page. We think her Covert job in the Military may have something to do with that but we’re looking into it. Caesar.

Caesar: Yes, Clement, I can’t believe that Katniss would be lower than Esme. Just look at this shot. This is what we all love about Katniss.
Clement: Singing to the birds, Caesar! Viewing figures soar at the point she usually does this, even though it’s early morning.

7.2.5.jpg

Clement: And who would have thought that Elizabeth would be top dog, Caesar!
Caesar: Well, Clement, there’s a lot of interest in her career. With all the old diseases making a resurgence, we need medical heroes like her more than ever.
Clement: Here’s a rare shot from inside the hospital, Caesar. Let me say, straight away that the patient had waived her rights.
Caesar: Of course – who wouldn’t, Clement? Do we know what infectious disease this is…was?
Clement: It was Llama Flu, Caesar, as you can no doubt tell from the distinctive squiggly stripes, making it look like llama wool.

7.2.1.jpg

Caesar: Oh ho! Clement! I didn’t know you were a housemate!
Clement: Aha! The girls invited me over for dinner, Caesar, after Benita got moved to the business career; became a whistle-blower and got sacked. She’s currently unemployed so she’ll sign up for the military until the public vote for something else. This was where they explained that they’d like some clothes that weren’t skimpy.
Caesar: The viewing public vote for what the viewing public want, Clement!
Clement: We’ll see in the End Of Week Pic just what the viewing public gave them, Caesar!

7.2.3.jpg

Caesar: Is this? No, it can’t be!
Clement: It’s the café in District 2, Caesar. One of Darwi’s commercial makeovers. She’s done 7 on lots open to the public now but she’s in such high demand by our wealthier citizens that she’ll only have time for private gigs now.
Caesar: Such a shame. Do you have her number, Clement?
Clement: As you can see Caesar, the client for this café favoured the Boho style and she gave it to him in spadefuls!
Caesar: Her number, Clement?

7.2.6.jpg

Clement: And what can we say about Lessa’s story, Caesar?
Caesar: It went from hero to zero, I must say, Clement.
Clement: The public were mourning with her, Caesar, over the loss of Libby but then, shock, horror!
Caesar: Tell me Clement, just how is Elizabeth related to her?
Clement: That, Caesar, remains a mystery, as all documents relating to the household are top secret but, who would have thought romance between these two was going on.
Caesar: No-one, Clement, that’s who! It was only when we saw this moment of them cooling off their relationship that any of us had a clue.

7.2.11.jpg

Clement: We think that explains the drop in her followers and why Caesar, when she got that big promotion to military officer, the public sent her off to be an athlete.
Caesar: Our lovely public are a fickle bunch, Clement! I can’t tell if they disapproved of the romance or whether it was disappointment over the cooling-off.
Clement: Either way, Caesar, nothing can dent Elizabeth’s figures it seems.

7.2.7.jpg

Caesar: Can we just mention the tremors, Clement? Frankly, they scare me witless!
Clement: There have been many this last week, Caesar, 2 really big ones!
Caesar: How are the girls dealing with it, Clement?
Clement: Frankly, Caesar, they get scared. Our lawyers say it’s all above board but there was a minor one while I was visiting and I was glad to leave, let me tell you!
Caesar: Tell me, Clement, what do you say to the conspiracy theorists that claim subterranean activity by the local scientists is to blame?
Clement: I have nothing to comment on that, Caesar.
Caesar: Is that Elizabeth’s new outfit, Clement? Not skimpy!
Clement: No, not skimpy, Caesar. But she doesn’t like it, even in pink!
Caesar: And the others, Clement?
Clement: Look at the final shot in the end credits, Caesar. The public really don’t like Proper Esme! Although her black hair, thanks to @Rhoxi suits her, I think.

Notes

I had no idea that Elizabeth & Lessa had got such a high romance bar. Elizabeth’s supposed to be her great grandmother although it’s all adoptions so it gets confusing! Darwi, having completed yet another project, will now accept any job offers.

Katniss is unable to set up a social media profile and her drones keep getting lost! I blame the Covert military. All follower figures are in-game generated.

To the reader – I write this up as I play so it is possible for you to join in the Sim Games experience with suggestions for outfits, jobs, activities. Clement and his team will consider all suggestions for their entertainment potential. I will try to leave time after posting each chapter before moving the story on…
