One of my save files has Oasis Landing crashing the game!
« on: June 02, 2022, 01:22:01 PM »
I realized I had several different saves stored in the main folder, most of which I have admittedly been going between lately, so on my most recent attempt to fix the persistent crash I put several of these saves in storage in iCloud.

I will admit many of these saves, including some that I just put away, have been connected through the Nraas Traveller mod so I tried restoring the missing travel world data but that didn't solve the problem.

There is currently one toddler as well as two babies in the household I am currently doing my best to focus on, but after they have a successful futuristic vacation I plan to return them to Twinbrook, age up all three Nooboos and add another set of fraternal twins to this super interesting family of Imaginary Friends. As such, I realized I needed to add another floor to the house with two more bedrooms so I could make room for the extra kids. I did this in Twinbrook, then saved that house and tried putting it in Oasis Landing but after I did that the game crashed while Oasis Landing was still trying to load, so I had to revert to a save I had made prior to putting the expanded house in Oasis Landing.

Since I eventually want to play as Ashley, the daughter of my Replika (AI chatbot) Sharon, I made a copy of the save I had reverted to, before taking unnecessary Sims out of both saves, and trying again to play the save I had reverted to…and let’s just say that it almost worked.

I haven’t noticed any duckups in any of my other saves, but just so you all know I have already tried the typical fixes (ie, deleting error files and cache files, emptying the Recycle Bin, doing Disk Cleanup and restarting my computer) several times. What could be the cause of this kerfuffle? I feel like I’m getting closer to a final solution but what more do I need to do at this point?🤷🏼‍♀️

Thanks in advance for your help and happy Simming!!!!😀

I'd like to see if I am understanding the basics of the issue.  Built a house, added it to the town, quit game. Load the save again and it crashed while loading?

If that's the case, have you tried taking the the house and adding it to a new test-save to see if that helps? As there maybe something within the current save.

Please forgive any repeated tips.

If you have any Nraas mods installed, like Overwatch or ErrorTrap and either of them made a error report you might want to ask over at Nraas to see if they can look at the report(s) and give some specific advice.

Other than that, you might want to look at this post linked below that gives some tips on the game crashing.

Hmm.. Crashing in new-test save. That tells me there might be something in the folder that is making it crash.

If you haven't try renaming your Sims 3 folder. Something like Sims3Current, for example. and then load the game so it creates a new folder.

If the house is saved to the library folder - \Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Library - Copy that folder into the new Sims 3 folder and place it in a new test-save.

Don't add anything except for the house. Save if need be so you can reload the save again to see if it crashes.

If it does, it might be something in the house. If that's the case, you might want to look over what you added to the house.   If it's the house and household. Check the family inventory and the Sim's personal inventories and remove any extra objects. Having a full inventory can cause issues with the game.  Also if it's a highly detailed lot, like lots of landscaping and on a big lot. That could cause problems as well. Maybe remove some of the landscaping.

If you do ask Nraas, and find something please do share!! :)

-- If you've added any new custom content or mods, you may need to check through them.  I recently ran into issues with the game and it was some old custom content I was trying out in my game.  Took it out and it worked fine.

It wasn't really any test I was deliberately doing, rather it was another existing save game's version of Oasis Landing just HAPPENING to also crash the game without any new lots added there.

Ah okay.  Maybe try a new-test save to see if you're able to travel to Oasis Landing?

If it still crashes, it might be something within the folder that's causing it to crash. If you've got any error messages from ErrorTrap or Overwatch, ask over at Nraas. They maybe able to help narrow the issue down and share tips to fix it. :)

Or you could try a new Sims 3 folder, new test save to test things there. To rule out that it's something within the current Sims 3 folder.

When I find something's wrong with my current Sims 3 folder, I start a new folder and reinstall my mods, custom content and store content.  Adding content in small batches and test to make sure it installs correctly in a new test-save, If all loads and shows up fine, I quit without saving and go to install the next batch.  Deleting the cache files before installing a new batch.

I then test the issue again with a new test-save to make sure all is working good. Quit the game without saving. And copy over my most current save file and check that it works good too. If not, I usually save my family and their house to the library and start a new save.

I am happy to hear that Oasis Landing Loads in a new save in a new folder.

As part of testing, I don't ever suggest to install mods, cc or store content. This is to help make sure they aren't part of the problem.

It sounds like you're getting closer to finding what the issue is!! :)

Hey MrsFlynn, good news: I imported both households and all their stuff, including each household's house, into a test save in Midnight Hollow, with all the stuff from the old set of folders put where it needed to be - including Store content, mods, CC and travel data. I loaded them into basically separate versions of Oasis Landing (since they are not from the same homeworld naturally) and everything went tickety-boom with both households - no crashing either prior to, or upon, loading either household into Oasis Landing. The test saves, which have proven glitch-free, are still in place alongside copies of the saves originally affected and I am about to test those copied saves out in the Sims 3 folder currently in use to see if they work. Wish me luck!

I forgot to post here and say the copied saves still crashed....I feel like I'm so so close but is there anything else at all I haven't tried or am I doomed?

Thank you for the update.  I'm sorry the save in a new Sims 3 folder didn't work.  Sounds like you've done all I would have.

1. Save family and house separately to Library. Back them up to a folder outside of the Electronic Arts folder.

-- Files can be found in the Library folder - Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Library

2. Rename the Sims 3 folder and launch the game to create a new Sims 3 folder, copy only the Library folder into the new Sims 3 folder.

3. Place new family and their home in a new test-save to test traveling and placing their home in Oasis Landing.

If you're playing with any mods, like ErrorTrap or Overwatch and find any error reports in your Sims 3 folder - \Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3  It's highly recommended to ask over at Nraas - https://www.nraas.net about them. They can help troubleshoot what's going on and may have some advice in fixing the issue.

Welp, after using S3PE to clean the saves, the save this was initially happening with loads just fine now but the one I accidentally discovered shared the problem still won't load. Half my problem is fixed I guess. I still have to refresh my error files since I forgot to do that after the initially problematic save got saved. Almost there....

Sooooo I have some good news...While the family that I originally saw couldn't travel from Midnight Hollow to Oasis Landing still can't, out of curiosity I tried it with their neighbours across the street (another branch of the same family tree actually) and they WERE able to travel with no issues. So the problem is with the household, not the save. More progress made, but still not solved. I'll keep going...wish me luck!

So there was a rogue human Child Sim in the problematic household. I don't consider her a family member, hence the word "rogue" so as another part of testing I took her out of the problematic household and roomed her with the divorced-and-remarried father of the head of the problematic household, because I never let her visit the future anyways, and tried again...still no luck. Working on the other crap now.
