Teaching to Talk
« on: May 15, 2022, 08:02:31 PM »
Hi, Does any body else get frustrated trying to teach the toddler to talk? I just had to click on the kid at least 20 times before the option came up, then the kid was tired. If the kid has not learned to talk yet, the option should come up right away. I really, really hope they reinstate teaching skills to toddlers in its own group like every game before this. My other  pet peeve is "put (toddler) here (in the high chair), give food. Sim takes the kid out of the high chair or the other parent comes and takes the kid out. :/  Right now, I have free will OFF!

The fastest and easiest way for a toddler to learn Communication is by interacting with one of the big plushies.
I've never had the patience for high chairs. If you put a multi-serving platter of food in a Baker's Cousin Display Case, toddlers will autonomously grab a serving for themselves.
Happy toddler skilling, Sonshine! :D

How do I get that? Which ep/sp did it come with?  About the feeding, I started having the parent "grab a serving for Michael." Another way is to teleport (he doesn't have motion 2 yet and so can't climb stairs yet) him to the kitchen and grab a serving for himself.

Edit: he just now got movement 2 (finally).

If you place one of the big plushies on your household's lot, can your toddler interact with the plushie?
My toddlers initially get the "Babble" and "What's This" interactions, but later gets "Hit," "Hug," and "Talk" as their Communication skill increases.
Since toddlers were added to Base Game, it would be strange if those socials were only available with the Parenthood pack.

In Buy Mode, I clicked on Objects By Room/Kids' Room/Toys (the big bear icon).
When I set the Pack option to Base Game, I see 3 different plushies: Blarfy, Dino, and Uni.
Try having your toddlers interact with one of those. :D

P.S. Do you have the Parenthood pack?  The slide is really great for learning Movement.

Yes, he has lev 5 communication now and can do everything w/the plushie. What I'm wondering about though is how do I get the Baker's Cousin Display Case? No, I don't have the Parenthood pack yet. I have to go slow on buying these things.

There are two items from the Get to Work pack that are glass display cases but act like fridges (food stays fresh like in a fridge):
*Frigidaire Refrigerated Display ($375)
*Baker's Cousin Display Case ($425)

These are also handy if you like to hire a caterer when your sims are busy.
You can move meals prepared by a caterer (or other non-household sim) directly into these display cases.
With a regular fridge, your sim would have to "Put away" such meals.

Hi again, I chose the GTW filter in Appliances (nothing else applies) and the only appliance shown is "The Chillbox 2100." The ones you listed must require another pack that I don't have. I don't have any display filter either.

Sonshine,
Those display cases aren't categorized as appliances.
They originally came with Get to Work for the purpose of selling baked goods in a retail shop, I believe.

I always simply use the Search box and input "Baker's Cousin," which is the fastest way to locate them (fewer clicks).
But you'll also find them under Surfaces/Displays, with or without the GTW filter.
Good luck!
