Gus: Yes! We’ve found the stash of Mum’s books!
Tim: Right. You read that Scarlet Ribbon one. I’ll read this Spice Covered Mountains.
Gus: Um – are you sure Mum wrote these?
Tim: Maybe I don’t want to read this… I feel a bit…
Gus: Uncomfortable? Weird? Just ew?



Dexter: Come on, Gus!
Gus: But…
Dexter: You keep making all those cakes – you keep eating all those cakes – you need to work all those calories off
Gus: But…
Dexter: A moment on the lips, a lifetime on the hips.
Gus: Yes, Dad!



Gus: I don’t get why he’s so tough on me!
Tim: Well – you do like your cakes!
Gus: He doesn’t make you work out that much and I reckon you eat as many as me.
Tim: I only eat one. You taste them all through the baking and try the first one “just to make sure they’re ok” and then you have any that are left over!
Gus: I guess so. The trouble is, I still haven’t found the one – the perfect pastry!



Gus: I’ve narrowed it down to doughnuts! I could eat doughnuts all day, every day. But is there a perfect doughnut? I’m going to find it!



Dexter: This costume arrived for me.
Willie: Does it fit?
Dexter: What do you think.
Willie: I think I love my research.



Watcher: What on earth are those?
Gus: The epitome of all doughnuts! The crowning glory of all pasties! The pinnacle of excellence! The…
Watcher: Yes, but what is it?
Gus: Bacon-wrapped doughnuts!
Watcher: Really? That sounds weird.
Gus: The salty sweetness with the soft dough…mmmmm….just try one. Go on. You know you want to!



Dexter: OK, I’ll play chess with you while your mum mentors you but then it’s time for more boxing practise!
Gus: Can I just ask….why are you and mum wearing matching cheerleading outfits?
Willie: Just a bit of research for a book.
Gus: Say no more! I don’t want to know.



Tim: I thought you’d fixated on your bacon-wrapped doughnuts?
Gus: I saw this one last recipe so I thought I’d try it – Voodoo doughnuts.
Tim: What’s in them?
Gus: A voodoo doll.
Tim: You mean you used a $950 voodoo doll to make 8 doughnuts? Do they have special powers?
Gus: Not as far as I can tell. Anyway, have you thought any more about where we should live next? We get to choose!
Tim: Somewhere warm would be nice. It’s so cool and rainy here.
Gus: And you’re OK to stay with me?
Tim: I’m still thinking about it.



Wanda: What did you want to ask me?
Tim: Well I could ask you a conundrum that your parenting skills are not good enough to answer but what I really want to know is…what’s it like being a spare?
Wanda: Ah – time to decide, is it? I’ve enjoyed it. No worrying about spouses. Helping out where I can but generally doing my own thing. I’m the cool, fun aunt!



Tim: Oh Bro – that’s what you’re wearing for our birthday party?
Gus: Someone had to make an effort, lol! It’s a bit of fun.
Tim: Always the prankster! Are you going to join the entertainer career, like you said?
Gus: Maybe…what about you?
Tim: I like music but I’d rather have a go at art.



Gus: The party’s going great. Our extended family has come and the stand-up comedian is our great great grandmother Michaela. I’ve never met her before. She says it’s not easy to do as a regular gig. She’s got a different day job and she’s offered me a post there. She tasted my doughnuts and says that I’ll fit in very well.  I’m not sure…



Willie: Wanda?
Wanda: Willie! I wanted to tell you – I’ve reached the top of the Professional Athlete career and, with the boys taking on jobs, I’m going to move out.
Willie: You mean you’re not coming with us to Tartosa?



Wanda: Oh I’m coming to Tartosa! But I’ve bought a little 2-bed out on the peninsula. Just big enough for me and maybe someone special if I find anyone.
Willie: That sounds great. We’ll be up on the hill in that big house. I’m so glad you’ll be close by. Dexter was hoping to take up fishing but we’ve not found any fishing spots yet.



Gus: Principal Lanuola! Thanks for coming to visit us in our new home.
Lanuola: Here’s a wooden horse as a house-warming gift. Now, can I wander round your new home?
Gus: I would normally say OK but I’ve realised that you’re a Kleptomaniac so No! Also, you Hate Children – odd for a school principal!



Gus: Let’s give this a go…um…3 donkeys went into a bar…er…what was that punchline? Oh dear, I’m not very good at this. Maybe I’ll take up Triple G’s job offer.
Watcher: Triple G?
Gus: My Great Great Grandmother.
Watcher: OK – what the gig?
Gus: Not a gig. It’s a proper job. I’m in at level 4. I hope it works out.



Desk Sergeant: Good to see you, fella. And thanks for bringing the doughnut holes. They’ll go down a treat.
Gus: Great. They’re not my best work but it was all I had time to make up fresh this morning.



Gus: Triple G! You’re the Captain?
Michaela: You need to call me Ma’am at work, Detective.
Gus: Yes Ma’am! I’ve come to get my first case assignment!
Michaela: You need to learn the ropes first. Go out to the active case location and gather clues. Get as many as you can!



Gus: Wow – a murder on my first day. This outline makes it so much more real. I thought I’d get a B&E or a bit of GBH first thing. This really isn’t a joke! I’m glad I’m not in charge for this one.

The given back story is that Gus is a detective by day and a comedian by night which doesn’t really match with his required Lazy trait. However, having maxed his fitness during his teens years, his laziness hasn’t caused any problems yet.

Michaela (gen 4) was a total surprise turning up as the entertainer and then again as the Police chief. It makes a nice story twist though

It's the Thebes Estate. I don't think I changed the lot type. It was empty when the Snozzberries moved in which was a shame. I must have been in there earlier in this game but not remembered. I quite like using the original game furnishings and tweaking them.
Ah - the Detective career! I do hope it works well for you this time. I can't work out how to edit the police station though. Editing isn't available while Gus is at work. Do I need to use bb.enablefreebuild ?

IIRC, you need to testingcheats. true, then bb.moveobjects on, then bb.enablefreebuild to change the work lot. Also, you need your sim to be present on the lot to change it.

IIRC, you need to testingcheats. true, then bb.moveobjects on, then bb.enablefreebuild to change the work lot. Also, you need your sim to be present on the lot to change it.

Gus: 2 days off before my next cop shift and the manager here has invited me for an open mic spot. I wonder if the crowd will like my jokes.



Gus: Ba doom ching! I’d say “tough crowd” but…



Gus: Back to work and I’ve got to earn my chops on the mean streets outside the Art Gallery! Hey you two! Stop fighting! Right you’ve both got citations.



Gus: Come on, suspect! Empty your pockets!
Suspect: I’m innocent, I tell you!
Gus: Is this a haddock in your pocket or are you just….
Suspect: That’s not mine!
Gus: It’s all looking very fishy!



Michiko: They said you arrested someone!
Gus: Yeah! Just lucky, I guess.
Michiko: You’re doing really well for your 2nd day on the job.
Gus: Not as good as you. You’ve got the top arrest record.
Michiko: Aw – aren’t you sweet! Just like the doughnuts you keep bringing in! You know you suggested that I moved to my dream job?
Gus: Yes - have you thought about it?
Michiko: I did but this is my dream job. I'm really happy working here.



Gus: Can we take a selfie together?
Michiko: Sure, but why?
Gus: Mum wants to know all about my colleagues. She loves collecting stories. Hey I’ve got an idea! Why don’t you come over for dinner? Mum can hear any stories you’ve got and you can give me some work pointers.



Michiko: You smooth talker! Work pointers indeed! And I’ve not even met your mum yet!
Gus: You’re amazing Michiko!

Gus: I think Mum wrote a story that had a scene in a hot spring.

Gus: Let’s grab something to eat and then you can sleep over again if you like?
Michiko: Actually, I’ve got some news. It’s a bit out of the blue…



Michiko: I’m not looking for any help. I live with my Dad and….
Gus: Michiko Yamaguchi, you’re my first love and I want you to be my last. Will you marry me?
Michiko: Oh yes, if you’re sure. You see…
Gus: That’s wonderful! You can move in now and we can get married on Sunday.



Gus: Hey Abdullah. You were a surprise! And you’ll not be little for much longer. I wonder why Michiko didn’t tell me that she’d got an adopted son sooner… Anyway, welcome to the family!

Michiko: Um…
Willie: Hey – thanks for making fruit salad for our breakfast.
Michiko: It’s Abdullah’s birthday today…
Willie: Say no more! I’ll bake a cake!
Michiko: It’s just…I was wondering…whether you might put some clothes on?
Willie: Ah – yes – I’d forgotten. The lads used to get all embarrassed.
Tim (from other room): We still do!
Willie: I’ll tweak our wardrobes.



Abdullah: Is there really a baby in there?
Michiko: Sure is. Due to make an appearance on Saturday evening.
Abdullah: And is that where I came from?
Michiko: No, you were special. I chose you! This one in here is pot luck!



Suspect: Come on man! How do you know it’s me?
Gus: Well, for a start, you fit the description: adult, brown hair, jacket, shorts.
Suspect: I’m sure that’s not enough to go on!
Gus: The clincher is that you hate children and we’re here at a children’s play park. If that’s not suspicious, I don’t know what is! Come on. Put these on so we can all get out of the rain!



Gus: Another surprise! Twin boys! George and Roald.
Michiko: Do you mean Ronald?
Gus: No – it’s definitely Roald.
Michiko: Are you happy, Sweet Gus?
Gus: In heaven, my first and only love!

George is the Green Generation (9) heir. He is named for the titular character from George’s Marvel Medicine. His twin Roald was a lovely addition and allows an homage to the author himself – Roald Dahl.
I was considering Leo for the Lion from The Wizard of Oz as he will be squeamish but the other requirements didn’t really fit the character.

      When I notice a house I like has been emptied in this way, I often replace it with the original house (downloaded from the Gallery).
      (I might be going around evicting elders from houses in my NSB, hehe.)

That explains the empty Thebe Estate! Thanks - I should have looked a bit harder.

Abdullah is shown as Michiko's child on her family tree diagram but there's no father so I'm fairly sure he must have been an adoptee. He was a child when Gus asked Michiko to move in. I thought it would be cute to have Gus put him to bed but you're right, it does look like he's in a toddler bed in that shot! He could have stayed with his grandfather but I thought I'd move him in as a big brother for Gen 9 and then his teen birthday was the very next day so he's a very big brother to them!
