Disappearing furniture when a household dies out
« on: May 07, 2022, 03:43:27 PM »
This is so annoying!
It forces me to do one of two things to keep empty houses furnished:
(1) Go around to all the towns and "Evict" any elders living on their own so they'll die homeless;
(2) Upload the lots of elderly households (like Moody & McMillan) to MyLibrary, so I can download a furnished lot later.
(3) Occasionally go back and check all the houses because some elders stubbornly move back into houses.

I'm playing with MCCC, so I could of course set it up so that all Elders automatically become homeless.
But I don't want to auto-move out grandparents from a multi-generation household.
So then I could set such households as Ancestral and have the game only move out Non-Ancestral Elders.

But seriously, why can't the game just leave a house furnished when its inhabitants die? Grrrr
How do you deal with this issue?
@Brian_Z  I hope you don't mind that I'm tagging you.  You seem really good at this type of thing.  ;)

Huh.  I haven't noticed this happening!  Maybe I should go check on some older households that have died out.  This could explain why the Charm house stays empty for forever sometimes.  Sometimes Darrel, Emilia, and Gemma move out, then Minerva dies.  If all the furnishings disappeared, that could explain why the house remains empty.  I never thought to check on the house itself.

What's really crazy, is if you decide to keep your furnishings when you move, the house will still have furniture anyway!

One trick I've discovered, is that if you want a house to stay empty until you're ready to move in, just delete all the beds from it.  NPC's won't move in if there's no beds.  Or, you can designate it as retail and put a cash register in it.

Yeah, the way that MCCC handles moves is that it won't move a household into a lot with no beds.

Whenever I wanted to keep a house "safe" from MCCC, I'd switch its lot type to Generic.
But I recently read somewhere that we can also just change its description in Build/Buy mode to "0 beds" but keep the actual beds in place.
I think I prefer switching to Generic so I don't have to go and count the bedrooms again, haha.
Let me know what's going on with the Charms house in your game.

Ohhh so that's why no one ever moves into the little starter home in Glimmerbrook!  I bet it's described as 0 beds.  And this must also be why no one ever moves into anything I built myself, after I moved out!
Also my spellcasters usually whack Vlad once they learn enough spells.  I have a CC spell that causes a Selvadoradan Lightning bug attack, and two attacks in a row will kill even a vampire.  I should see if his mansion stays empty, usually I don't pay much attention to Forgotten Hollow.

I went through a couple of saves, but I don't remember which one it was that Minerva lived alone before she died.  One game had been running a long time, but I couldn't find any homes standing empty.  Surely one of them must have had the household die out?  George Cahill's bunker had new residents, he's definitely gone by now.  But maybe he married and moved out first, I don't know.
Well, I did actually have 2 homes standing empty.  Both were ones I had lived in before.  One I built from scratch, one I downloaded.  Sure enough, both were designated as having 0 beds.  I took the opportunity to fix that, and save my scratch built one to my library.  One of the few builds I'm really proud of!
I had a good laugh when I came across my simself's household.  I must have added him later on, because he should have died off by now.  But the household-- full house, at least 4 different last names, I would love to know how it got to there!  Plus, one of the sims there:  I made a restaurant a while ago, and I wanted it to have all female staff.  But I didn't actually want to run it.  So when I visited for the first time, all the waiters were male.  I used cas.fulleditmode and made them all female.  One of the household members was one of them!  She had been married and had kids before I did that to her, too.

I cracked up at all the craziness in your simself's household and the restaurant staff.
