Ah - Taro went for the Joke Star aspiration. I haven't decided about that yet as it's not an official requirement and they have to be in the career.
Poor Momo & Selena - only having good looking guys that they're related to! I can see why Selena wants to move away.

Great tip about adding the computers/desks to the police station! Thanks :) Such a shame that Nez can't join you at work. Maybe he can help with some off-the-books renegade-cop stuff! Can I guess that you're suggesting your co-workers apply for their dream jobs? Or are there some others we've not seen yet? ;)

For Gen8, Joke Star appears as a mandatory requirement on the 2017 Tumblr page of LilSimsie, one of NSB's two creators. Here's her link: https://lilsimsie.tumblr.com/post/157671494755/not-so-berry-legacy-challenge
Joke Star only requires branching to the Comedian career at L5 Entertainer. With the Connections reward, Taro started at L4 and got his promotion in one work shift.

Ah - I was just going by the check boxes on the spreadsheet I've got so I see where my mistake is.  I'd decided Gus would do it anyway, just the other way round, as a sort of retirement plan, lol.

What an adorable house! Where is it located? Poor Selena. No luck in love and when she finally spots a cute boy it's her great uncle! I enjoyed the joint joke - never heard that one. ;D All this discussion of changing career outfits - I didn't even know that was an option! I'm totally going to have to give it a try. Since Loario never sleeps, he tends to stay in his career outfits all the time, so this will be super handy!

I'd never built a mid-century modern style house before. I discovered recently that there's a sort in Build mode that lets me view only Mid-Century modern build/buy items, haha. How long has that been there?
It's located in Mirage Park in Del Sol Valley on the 50x40 empty lot that's kitty corner from the premade Venessa Jeong.

Wow, you've kept Loario in his career all this time? Good for you! I always make my sims quit after maxing their job, then complain about how they're always in the way, LOL.
Haha, heard a lot of w33d jokes, have you?  Maybe Taro should specialize as a comedian. Not sure why I spelled it like that, since it's been legalized where I live.
I'm sad that we can't name the comedy routines he writes. (Or can we rename them?)

I just caught up with the story - the oshizu/Pippin crossover + Sims-Coral Island crossover was an entertaining episode.

Poor Selena - such a beauty with no non-Berry prospects - hopefully she will be happy with what she finds in her new locale.

I'm looking forward to more of your detective story - I haven't played that since the pack came out - it was so buggy then that I just sort of forgot about it.

Nez is a great addition to the story - I've only had small dogs in the Sims, but in RL I grew up with big dogs; Nez may inspire me to give a Cordova a big dog at some point.

I haven't read the Dresden files, but I did watch the TV series when it came out . . . I enjoyed it, and am certain that, like always, the books are better. I will have to check out the book series.

As I've mentioned, I've played through Coral Island's available Early Access content.
So, I'm trying to decide where to start a different game and simply focus on my Berries, hah!
Nez is a great addition from the Harry Dresden angle but a bit time-consuming for Taro who holds a day job while also moonlighting as a comedian.
The nice thing is that, unlike in Windenburg Countryside where I formerly experienced glitched dog walks, dog walking around Mirage Park works great!

Bewitched Berries 8.39: It's Complicated
« Reply #290 on: November 23, 2022, 09:09:15 PM »
8.39: It's Complicated

Week 39, Sunday (3rd week of summer, Y3)
Taro: To refresh your memory, I moved here to Mirage Park last Tuesday from Tartosa.
My siblings and Nez came with me, then Selena left for greener pastures on Thursday.
Here we are in front of the new crib, from left to right:
Santos, me, Momo, and Nez.

Taro: Watcher loses it when she catches us painting the DIY mural on the garage door.
Watcher (sputters): It's a fake garage door! What if the mural clashes with the house exterior?
Do you realize what a pain it was to build a peach-themed house? *replaces garage door with new one

Taro: Since I'm off today, Momo and Santos decide it's a good day to age up with their boos.
Here's everyone's traits.
Momo: Perfectionist, Dog Lover, Bro
Adonis Haskins (Momo's boo): Gloomy, Romantic, Slob
Santos: Adventurous, Loyal, Genius
Kerri Hanson (Santos's boo): Socially Awkward, Erratic, Overachiever

No snarky comment on their traits yo. My traits ain't that great, either.

And since they're all engaged, we travel to Sulani.
Momo and Santos are hitched now, but they're not moving out yet.
Since I work long hours, they're going to stay to help with my future toddler(s).
I'm too busy for a social life, so here's hoping I'll meet someone nice at work soonish.

Monday
Watcher's been hovering around me for hours, waiting for me to get my last Scope Print.
Naturally, the second Watcher leaves me to check on Momo, that's when it drops.
And that's my bonus collection completed!

If Nez were a hooman bean, he'd have the Foodie trait like me!
It's like I learned Gourmet Cooking to prepare gourmet dog food!
Nez enjoys home-made gourmet dog food every single day.
But he ain't spoiled, no sirree. He deserves every morsel!

Nez: Sorry, Taro! I know you want us to run this obstacle course together, but this ain't it.
I'm too big for this obstacle course. You see how I barely made it outta this tunnel?
Taro: Whatchu talkin' about, Nez? You got a perfect score!

I invite Grandpa Blaze along with me to the Humor & Hijinks Festival tonight.
After joining the Jokesters, I notice Grandpa's too sad to join the Pranksters.
Whoever passed away, it's nobody I knew.
(Hey, you recognize the lady behind Gramps? That's his sister, Cara Berry!)

I still enjoy comedy as long I'm not wearing that ugly blue jacket!
Time for a little moonlighting!

Here's a life tip, homies!
Always get high before you have your driver's license photo taken.
That way, when you get pulled over, the cop will think you always look like that.
You'll thank me later.

Tuesday
An extremely busy but successful day!
On patrol, I ticket a pregnant lady for beating up a passerby in front of a toy store.
Next, I arrest a dangerous criminal at, uh, the dog park.
Back at the station, I meet the only other young adult on duty, but she's married.
And I also learn how to process perps at the booking station.

Taro: Raise your arms and stand with your legs spread. I'm gonna search you.
Perp: Officer, are you th-th-threatening me with a good time?

Taro: How do you do, Chief Pania. I'm new and my name is…
Chief: Don't bother introducing yourself. I know exactly who you are.
Taro: You do? Because you've skimmed my resume?
Chief (snorts): That's rich! Don't pretend like you don't know what your grandfather does.
Taro: What?
Chief: We need to talk but this isn't the time or place. Later, boi, later.

Taro (sighs): Today was just another training day.
When will I get to work my own cases?
Hey, Nez! I love that you're so affectionate, but do you mind?
You're lying on my yoga mat.
Nez: *ignores Taro and continues vibin' to the music

Wednesday
Chief Pania called me to her office while I was working late today.
I thought she'd congratulate me on solving my first case.
Instead, she slipped me a note that said "Tonight, 9 pm" and an address.
I've never been in this hood before. Should I have packed some heat?

Chief Pania makes me come all the way to this trashed-out trap house for a meet up?
Whaddya think she's planning, Nez?
Nez (looks bewildered): Woof?

Pania: You don't know me, baby boy, but I know ALL about you and your family.
Taro: Say what?
Pania: I first heard of your grandfather Blaze when I was still a rookie cop.
Taro: Grandpa Blaze? But he's a legit businessman who deals in imports/exports…
Pania (ignores Taro): I was borderline obsessed with him, especially after his notoriety soared.

Pania: But he not only rejected my affections, he also became unassailable as the top Boss.
He never left any loose ends behind.  We couldn't get anything on him. But then…
Taro: But then, what changed?
Pania: When your job application landed on my desk, Lady Luck smiled on me.
I'm going to publicly expose Don Blaze's sordid past and ruin you for life, unless…

Taro: Grandpa's an elder trying to enjoy his remaining days. Whatchu want from me?
Pania: Don Blaze never looked my way. But you'll marry me or I'll destroy you both.
Taro: You think I'd marry you to protect my family's reputation and legacy?
Pania: Yeah, I'm counting on it. I've had you investigated. I know you're an honorable sim.
Taro (defeated): You got me over a barrel, Chief. When we be doing this?
Nez: *whimpers
Pania: I'll be moving in with you tomorrow. And don't you be telling anyone else our secret.

Back home in DSV
Taro: Listen up. You two need to be gone before I wake up tomorrow morning.
I'm tired of being the only one with a job while you two stay home and do nothing!
Momo: But I'm planning to stay and help raise your future toddlers…
Taro: I don't want you around anymore. Don't you get it?

Thursday
Taro: Look, lady, we can do this the easy way or the hard way.
Suspect: I'll confess! I'll confess!

With Momo and Santos gone, I had to hire a butler as a dog-sitter for Nez.
Even with all the distractions, I work overtime and manage to solve my second case.
Pretty sure I'll get a promotion tomorrow! Ugh, I dread going home.

Taro: You're, uh, here already?
Pania: Yeah, the rest of my stuff is being sent over tomorrow while we're at work.
Well, what are you waiting for, Taro? Get down on one knee. You need to propose.
Taro: *proposes on demand
Pania: No, not like that. Try it again but with feeling.
Taro: *gives thanks he was able to propose without having to woohoo

Taro (acts upbeat): Listen, we need to discuss my family's Berry Legacy, Pania.
As the current heir, I'm responsible for bringing in the next heir, but…
Pania: So, what's the problem? Since I can't bear you children, you can adopt.

Taro: But we Berries are all blood-related. How do you feel about a surrogate mother?
Pania: You'll go through a surrogacy agency to arrange a random surrogate mother?
Taro: An anonymous surrogate, definitely, but one with good genes.
Pania: I'm fine with that, Taro. Just don't expect me to help with childcare.

Friday
Today, I got close to clinching my third case and earned a promotion, too!
All I want is to relax tonight, but I need to visit the Agency of Surrogate Mothers.
My family's surely heard that I kicked out Momo and Santos then married my elderly boss.
Once the next generation arrives, though, the family will focus on the kids instead of me.
This is MY problem and I gotta handle it myself, without involving the rest of the family.

At the Agency
Oh really? I need to pick the surrogate myself? Whoa, look at all my choices!
Hmmm, Lilit might be the most attractive. *continues scrolling
If only I knew their traits, too.

Saturday
Club Calico, Brindleton Bay
Taro: I earn two promotions today: one on my own then another granted by the Wishing Well!
Time to go participate in the Talent Showcase.

The medical experts claim that cannabis use leads to memory loss.
What a ridiculous lie! I never forget to smoke!

Taro: I don't mean to sneak around, but I've left Pania at Club Calico to come home alone.
Talking things over with the surrogate mother will be easier if Pania's not around.

Taro (on the phone): Good evening. My name's Taro Berry.
The agency gave me your number, saying I could invite you over. Are you free now?
Oh, you're sure the child will be a girl? Sweet!

Notes
*Plot? What Plot?: I really want each heir to have their own storyline.
Since Grandpa Blaze is The Boss, I thought I'd try weaving his past into Taro's present.

*Kerri Hanson: I'm happy about Santos marrying Kerri, his grade-school friend.
She's descended from the scientist who slayed the Mother Plant with our founder Mojito.

*Default Chest Hair: After cleaning up the cc I'd installed for this challenge, a few female NPCs turned up bald.
Going into Manage Households to give them hair, I found many of them had chest hair.
Why would chest hair be the default for female sims?  Not sure whether to laugh or cry.

*Promotions at the Precinct: Taro earned his Level 7 promotion on Saturday.
Then the Wishing Well granted him a full promotion to Level 8 Detective.
He's only solved 3 cases so far, so he'll need to solve two more cases for his next promotion.
  Not complaining!

Oh that Pania! Blackmailing Taro into a loveless marriage to fulfil her age-long obsession with his grandfather!
You're lucky the game retired her. I wasted a work day because it took me to work with Michiko instead of Gus before they got married.
Congrats on the promotion. I need a wishing well, lol!

Pania's so beautiful!  Alright, I'm kidding, she's a horrible monster.  Kudos to Taro so being such an honorable Sim, though I'm sure you know I'm just devastated by the Momo move out...of course, you probably had that in mind when you threw in a Cara screenshot for me  ;=)
Nez is great!  I just love the part when he's just laying on the yoga mat to be by his boy  :=)  Such a real dog thing to do!!
I'm looking forward to seeing how things develop and if our honorable heir and his surrogate baby mama end up being a thing  ;=)
And I'll point out, Pania's name contains all the letters you need to spell " a pain!"

Congrats on the promotion. I need a wishing well, lol!
As soon as Pania moved in, I went to her career page and toggled the "Ask to Join" button to Off (or No, I don't remember) so that she'd always go to work alone without prompting me.
It's the same toggle we see on high school students in the High School Years pack.
In the past week, Taro used the Wishing Well twice. The well granted him a guaranteed promotion on Thursday night, then a full promotion on Saturday.
Taro's done with the Wishing Well now. It's a bit difficult to balance the "cases solved" progress with maxing the job performance bar, right?

Ooo, the drama! I love how you brought Blaze into this. I've never done the Detective career, but between your and Granny Lawlor's legacies I just may have to try it out myself.
I'm so glad you enjoyed the drama!  Taro's life is completely devoid of romantic joy, so I was worried that readers wouldn't like the update.
RE: Detective career
It's been six years (2016) since I've been able to actually play the Detective career. But it's working ever since I went through my Mods folder and did a drastic cleanup of cc.
Previously, my Detective would get stuck in an infinite loop after issuing an All-Points Bulletin so he could never make an arrest.
I even play-tested the career a second time after installing the Woohoo Wellness mod (which is how Taro was able to hire a surrogate mother).
It's obviously still a bit buggy, though, since Granny Lawlor doesn't play with mods... Still, the career uniforms from Level 5 and upward are everything!

Sorry about Taro having to push away Momo and Santos. If they'd stayed, they'd have quickly figured out that Taro's marriage to Pania is a sham.
Haha, I also loved that Nez squeezed onto the yoga mat the second Taro lifted his back.
My now-deceased 100-pound dog (may he forever rest in peace) used to pull stunts like that all the time!

What do you mean by that remark about "Taro and his surrogate baby mama"?  *immediately puts on a tin foil hat

Bewitched Berries 8.39x: Are We There Yeti?
« Reply #295 on: November 25, 2022, 11:07:26 AM »
8.39x: Are We There Yeti?

Another silly mini-update to fill in some plot holes between the previous week and the next week.

Magnus: Sir…
Taro: Yes, Niles?
Magnus: Sir, my name is…
Taro: What did you say, Niles?
Magnus: A man of dubious character at the door asks to speak with you.
Taro: Please tell him I'll be right there, Niles.
Magnus: Sir, my name is…oh, never mind.

Taro: Grandpa Blaze, nice to see you but why didn't you text first?
Blaze: I've heard some disturbing rumors about you lately.
Get in the car, Taro.  There's somewhere we need to go.

Pippin: I was so surprised when Blaze contacted us in Sulani.
oshizu: He's Damson's son and we always let Damson know where to find us, so...
Pippin: Still, it's weird to be summoned to this seedy bar. I rather miss our overalls.
oshizu: Me, too. But imagine if we'd shown up here in our overalls and sandals.
Pippin: Yes, we might as well wear signs on our backs: "Mug us, please! We're tourists!"
oshizu: Ooh, look! Here come Blaze and Taro heading our way.

Blaze: Now that we're somewhere private, tell us what's been going on, Taro.
Taro: *explains events of past week
oshizu: Pania blackmailed you into marrying her?
Blaze (sadly shakes his head): I never figured my grandson for a simp.
Taro: Hey, I'm no simp! I was flushing Pania out, trying to figure out her game.
Blaze: Her real target is me, Taro, not you. Let me get ridda her!

Pippin: C'mon, people. No need to get all violent about this.
Blaze (smirks): Sez the medieval Nordic mercenary?
Pippin: If you must know, he earns most of his income as a blacksmith. *sniffs
oshizu: Pippin has a point. Let's simply pay off Pania then exile her. Why not?

Taro: Watcher, you know those cc hairstyles you've been saving for months?
oshizu: We talking 'bout the custom content I've reserved for the last two heirs?
Taro: Yeah, them 3 coifs you been keepin' on ice ever since starting this challenge.
Welp, Pania is wearing one of them.
oshizu: Unbelievable! Exile's too good for her. She deserves…off with her head!
Pippin: Hey, cute Lewis Carrol allusion, but no decapitation in our simverse, remember?.
Blaze: Listen, Taro. I'm still The Shadow Boss, let me…

Taro (interrupts): Lighten up, Grandpa.  You gotta sit back and let me handle this.
Blaze: But…
Taro (evil grin): Yo, I'm not your grandson for nuthin'!
And FYI, I already divorced Pania late Saturday night.
I didn't want her to be legally designated as the mother of my child(ren).
Blaze: You kicked her out?
Taro: Nah, we still live together to keep up appearances, but not for much longer.

oshizu: If you divorced her, who'll look after the kids while you're working?
Taro: I'm thinking of asking Hitomi Ono to move in as kind of a roommate.
I first met Hitomi when Selena brought her home after school one day.
When I saw her photo in the list of possible surrogate mothers, I chose her.

Pippin: So you were too busy or shy as a teen to ever tell her she was cute?
But now that you're YAs, you asked her to be a surrogate and she agreed?
You think you might have a future together, Taro? Sounds like love to me. *rolls eyes
oshizu: If she says no, the butler you hired to dog-sit Nez could maybe help out.

Blaze: Taro, if you need anything, anything at all, you contact me.
I don't like the idea of you getting your hands dirty over that evil cougar!
Taro: Thanks, Grandpa. You da best. But don't worry. I got the perfect plan!
Blaze: ...
Taro: Well, I guess we'll be leaving, Watchers. Thank you for your time!
Blaze: Don't worry about locking up, Watchers! One of my minions will do it.

oshizu: Looks like Taro and Blaze didn't really need our advice after all.
Pippin: Yeah. And they didn't even gush over my stories or ask for my autograph!
I definitely like the Berry girls better! Hmmph!
oshizu: I hope Taro gets that messy situation under control.
I'm worried about how all this will affect his offspring, especially the next heir.
Pippin: Taro knows he can always come to us for advice. Let's head back to Sulani.

Blaze: Wait up, Taro! This ain't how it's going down!
My first and last visit with the Watchers can't end like this!
Taro: Whatchu got in mind, Grandpa?
Blaze: I heard you trekked to the Himalayas to visit them once.
How 'bout we invite them to a fancy dinner on Mt. Komorebi? You think they'd enjoy that?

Taro (brown): Are these costumes really necessary?
oshizu (purple): Oh yes, Pippin and I always go incognito. *trying hard not to laugh
Blaze (black): I'm not crazy about our 'fits, but I agree with the concept.
You're a rising star in the world of law and order, Taro.
You don't want to be seen in public with a notorious gangster like me.

Tuki: Those voices sound rather familiar.
Blaze (black): Sheesh, that's my ole man!  Shut up and don't look at him!
Taro (brown): You mean, my great-grandpa Tuki?
Blaze: Sssshh! Can't you hear? I said not to make eye contact!
Pippin (blue): May I order for everybody? Please?
oshizu: I dunno, guys. Trying to eat with chopsticks is gonna be rough.

Blaze: Our food's taking forever! Who's coming with me to press our waiter?
Taro: I'll pass.
Pippin (grins): Sure! What have I got to lose? I'm incognito! *follows Blaze confidently

Blaze: WHERE.IS.OUR.FOOD?!
Pippin (horrified): Whoa, whoa, whoa! Take it easy, Blaze!
Didn't your fathers teach you not to fight on an empty stomach?

Taro: We got kicked out of that joint pretty quick!
I'm still hungry, too.  What next?
Pippin: How about some cheerleading?
Blaze (glares): Absolutely not.
Pippin (whispers): Just thought I'd ask, y'know.
Taro: *exhales a sigh of relief

Blaze: Oh, hey, Pippin.  This is kinda embarrassing but…
I love your stories, dude. May I have your autograph?
Pippin: Of course, Blaze. What do you want me to write?
Blaze: What about "To Blaze, Homies for Life!  Pippin"?

Pippin: You know, oshizu, I thought Blaze was mean and rude at first.
But that Blaze is all right!
oshizu: I knew he'd grow on you!
Pippin: Still, it's so relaxing to be away from your Berries!
oshizu: Yeh, cuz. Sulani no ka oi.

Nice to know that Taro is finding his way out of the marriage of inconvenience  ;=)
Aww, Blaze is a fan?  I'm so flattered!
Another lovely Watcher update, and the yeti outfits were such a perfect disguise!!!

Hahaha!  What a delightfully different Watcher update this time around!
Nice to know that Taro is finding his way out of the marriage of inconvenience  ;=)
Aww, Blaze is a fan?  I'm so flattered!
Another lovely Watcher update, and the yeti outfits were such a perfect disguise!!!

I'm so glad you like the update.  I got a bit carried away with you and Blaze, and worried a bit that I might have offended you.
I never need to worry about what I have my sims say, but putting words into the mouth of someone's simself needs a little more care.
Thanks for being such a sport!

Where is the "seedy bar" from? Also, I love Tuki almost catching everyone in their yeti outfits!

The seedy bar is part of the elaborately detailed "Slum Street" lot created by Yukihiyo6121, my newest favorite builder.
Here's the same Slum Street lot image I posted in an earlier update:

I have been binge-watching this builder's stop-motion speed builds on Youtube lately. They're an incredible builder.
Haha, it was a happy coincidence that Tuki showed up at that restaurant. I was sad that he arrived without Damson, tbh.

Just to clarify, the Watchers initially stand in front of the Slum Street lot's bar.
Then they relocate with Blaze/Taro to the Criminal Hideout (with the map on the wall, created by Cerimonster).
After the restaurant fiasco, they return to sit down inside the Slum Street bar. :D
