A Twist In The Tale – 2.3: Not Working For The Man

Fagin: Oh, Bella, I’m so sorry for your loss.
Bella: Oh – it’s so terrible – how could we lose Cassandra?
Fagin: How exactly did she die, right here by the front door?
Bella: I don’t know. Mortimer and I have been so busy with the toddlers…
Fagin: The 3 toddlers all having tantrums outside the front gate?
Bella: Oh, not again. I really miss Cassandra. She was great with the little ones
Fagin: Hmm – what were you doing while she was being great with them?! I’ll just look around the house while I’m here and then I’ll leave you in peace.

Charley: Thanks for coming round, Rohan.
Rohan: I’ve never had a sauna before.
Charley: Me neither.
Rohan: It’s getting hot in here.
Charley: Mmmm – isn’t it, though!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Charley: Um, Rohan?
Rohan: Yes, Angel?
Charley: Would you come round? I’ve got some Big News to Share.
Rohan: What’s that whirring sound I can hear?
Charley: It’s just my drone. I’m streaming everything at the moment.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Toby: Let me get this straight. Charley’s knocked up?
Fagin: Yes, isn’t it wonderful!
Dodger: But they’re not married?
Fagin: There’s time for all that…
Toby: But Rohan has moved in?
Fagin: Yep! It turns out he was living with his grandparents but they’ve died so…
Dodger: He’s a bit of a Loner
Fagin: But a Perfectionist. He might take ages to do a painting but it should be good!
Toby: But he’s a Freegan. He won’t get a job.
Fagin: Ah! I talked to him about that. He’s going to sort the garden out, maybe get a degree while he’s at it… Anyway, he reckons he can live for nothing so he shouldn’t make a difference to household funds anyway…
Toby: I’ll take care of the Money Trees though. He doesn’t need to worry about them. I think they’re ready for another dose of fertilizer.

Classmates: Oh – now we see why you’ve been hiding away!
Charley: Not hiding away. Just busy.
Classmates: Very busy!
Charley: How many of you lot got A+?
Classmates: In Drama – I mean, it’s not exactly Rocket Science…

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Rohan: I’m going to prove to this family that I can live for nothing! OK so I’ll need funds if I want to do the degree they’re suggesting but otherwise…Oooh a grilled cheese sandwich! Yummy! Wait – is that Charley yelling? I think it’s baby time!

Notes

Welcome Gen 3 - Noah Claypole was the undertakers apprentice who bullied Oliver Twist. Not a very nice person but not actually a criminal.

I wasn’t sure if Toby or Charlie would bring in the next heir. For some reason, I’m not very fond of Dodger. I don’t know why. The heart wants what the heart wants. Anyway, both Charley and Toby were looking out for possible love interests and there was Rohan. Such a sweetie!

Having assigned all the negative dreams (as determined on the Granny Lawlor Goodness Scale - GLGS), we have now started the neutral dreams. These can have all neutral tasks, good balancing out bad or the tasks can be done in an evil or good way. I have gardening down as a good activity but it’s balanced by the need to grow a cow plant.

Well, based on the GLGS, it looks like you're a third of the way through! (Not very familiar with the rules of this challenge though - does a new heir mean a new home?)

I wish I was a 3rd through. There are way more neutral or good Dreams than evil ones and I haven't even got Fagin (gen 1) through her Mischief Maker. This is my 2nd go at the Big Dreams challenge to finish the ones I missed previously.

No rules on where/when to move in this challenge, just get through 8 generations with at least 16 Big Dreams completed.

Looks like Dodger and Toby are almost ready to move out in another week or so! Yay!
Would love to revisit Bet when her child with Kiyoshi is a grade schooler.
Great choice with Roha, Charley.  He's super cute!

It would be great if you could always do a L to R explanation of your household image in every update.
It's harder for readers to keep a household's names straight than for its watcher (I had to go back 4-5 updates to distinguish Dodger & Toby).

Charley: Are you holding on?
Noah: Faster! Faster!
Charley: Here we GO!

Rohan: Fagin doesn’t like this insect farm on the front porch but the composting toilet won’t work if it’s too far away. The fertilizer is really going to help my plants.

Dodger: Come here, sis! Give me a hug!
Charley: You’re the best brother in the world!
Dodger: That’s great footage for our streaming.
Charley: It’s a bit invasive.
Dodger: But an easy way to get new followers and fame!

Hawthorne: Do you like that, young master?
Noah: Yummy!
Hawthorne: What would young sir like to do next?
Noah: Bath!

Toby: My collection is complete – well not complete but it’s worth well over $100k when you add in all the sculptures.
Fagin: It’s quite a sight. Are you going to add any more?
Toby: No. I’ve got something else in mind.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Fagin: So what’s the plan?
Toby: You remember when Monks invited us up to Umbrage Manor?
Fagin: Ah yes, and you said not to go so I don’t steal his stuff.
Toby: Well I did go and we had a really good chat. It seems that, although he’s still a Global Superstar and living in an expensive house, his cashflow is really low.
Fagin: That’s amazing! He should be rolling in it!
Toby: Exactly.  I said I could probably help with that so he’s invited me to move in with them.
Fagin: Can I come and visit?
Toby: Maybe call first?

A Twist In The Tale – 2.5: A Budget Wedding

Dodger: So what about it, Mum?
Fagin: I don’t know…it’s quite isolated.
Dodger: Thorne says it’s the perfect place to live, surrounded by people like us.
Fagin: But I’m not famous. Will the rest of us fit in?
Dodger: Think of the views, Mum. You’ll love it!

Rohan: Thanks for getting your mum to downgrade it from being a celebrity house. I felt embarrassed all the time.
Charley: You shouldn’t have – Dodger’s our celebrity and I’m getting a higher profile now.
Rohan: I still can’t get used to us having a butler.
Charley: He’s just like one of the family.  Hey Hawthorne, that doesn’t need cleaning now. Maybe a cup of tea would be nice?
Rohan: A member of the family who sleeps in the attic!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Fagin: Are you happy, Hawthorne?
Hawthorne: Of course, Madam.
Fagin: What do you like to do when you’re not butlering?
Hawthorne: I do like the great outdoors, Madam, and I’m known as a bit of a Dance Machine.
Fagin: I do like dancing. Would it be too odd if we danced together?
Hawthorne: Not at all, Madam.

Rohan: I can’t believe Noah’s a child already. We’re not even married yet – you do still want to get married, don’t you?
Charley: Of course. It’s just the move and my new job, there never seems to be time.
Rohan: I’m not a fan of this décor but it’ll do for now.
Charley: There’s loads of room here…room for another baby?
Rohan: Oh yes! Let’s!

Dodger: And if we all pull together, we can change the world! Yeah!

Rohan: I really don’t think he should jump up and down like that in just a towel
Rahul: I remember when he was a Rising Star. He’s really going places now.
Rohan: I hear you’re married to Nancy, Charley’s big sister.
Rahul: Yes, we’ve got a little toddler, Dorothy. Looks nothing like me…
Rohan: Gotta go! I’ve just had a birth alert from Charley!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Hawthorne: How can I help you, Madam?
Fagin: You do so much. Thank you for seeing to baby Amy.
Hawthorne: If I’m not speaking out of turn, Madam, you seem a little low.
Fagin: I’ve just been feeling a bit lonely, lately.
Hawthorne: Surely not, Madam.
Fagin: Do you think I look like a grandmother?
Hawthorne: Madam is still in her prime.
Fagin: You flatter me, Hawthorne.
Hawthorne: Oh no, Madam. You’re a very attractive woman.
Fagin: Convince me!
Hawthorne: Of course, Madam.

Rohan: I’m so glad we came to the Romance Festival. It’s perfect. Look there’s a Wedding Arch here. Let’s get married right here, right now! No unnecessary expense.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Charley: You cheapskate! You’re always pinching pennies and I’ve had enough of it. To be honest, you’re being ridiculous when we’ve got so much money! I will not get married to you just because it’s convenient and you can save a buck!
Rohan: I can’t believe you’d say that about me. You know what my principles are, what they’ve always been!

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Rohan: I don’t understand. You said you wanted to get married.
Charley: Can’t you see that focusing on saving money is not what a girl wants to hear?
Rohan: It’s just I grew up with very little money and your family’s money isn’t my money. I can’t afford a big fancy wedding on what I bring in from the produce.
Charley: You silly man. The groom doesn’t have to pay for everything. It’s me that wants a full-on celebration so our family money can pay for it. Besides, those 2 money trees that Toby left bring in loads every day.
Rohan: I’ve never really thought of those as mine.
Charley: You weed and water them so…
Rohan: Actually, Noah’s started helping with that.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Charley: Where do we go from here?
Rohan: Things seem to have cooled off between us – we need to work on that.
Charley: Let’s drink some Festival tea and check with the Guru.
Rohan: Really? I’ve heard she just says the same thing to everyone.
Charley: Let’s see.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Charley: Oh – you were right. Tall dark stranger is such a cliché.
Rohan: Never mind. We can do this. Let’s get home before the tea wears off.

Notes

Once again, the whole family had to introduce themselves to Amy when she became a toddler. It’s so bizarre but quite cute.

I hadn’t planned to have Charley’s Dream requirement of “Leave someone at the altar” at the Romance Festival but Rohan’s Freegan nature played right into it.  Their pink love bar went right down afterwards to the point that they couldn’t have fun in bed but the tea’s effect lasted long enough for them to woo each other back to a strong affection.

A Twist In The Tale - A Big Dreams Dynasty - Closed
« Reply #37 on: May 13, 2022, 04:23:06 AM »
Dear Readers

I have become aware that I shouldn't have moved Rohan into the dynasty household before the true wedding and so this Big Dreams Dynasty no longer sits within the rules. I've decided to close this story partly to avoid confusing any of you that might be planning a Big Dreams attempt, but mainly because I'd lost focus and started looking at other challenges.

For those who like an end to a story:
With the family now in the public eye, Fagin turned her back on her life of crime, shut up her Fencing outlet shop and returned the remaining items to their rightful owners. Having found comfort in the arms of her butler, she lived out the remainder of her Lady Chatterly with him in the family home, shunning all invites from Bill. She had given up on her original Mischief Maker Big Dream and so could never move out.
Dodger got to be a global superstar with his remaining 3rd B-lister friend being Charley who is building up her own fame with her Social Media career and live-streaming her many professional gaming tournaments.
Her children with Rohan are raised mainly by Rohan, Granny Fagin and butler Hawthorne. Noah was aiming at Master Scientist and Amy planning to be a World Traveller.

I've enjoyed the Del Sol Valley experience but pondering a trip to Batuu!

@Granny Lawlor --I'm sorry this happened to you. Dynasty rules can be hard to remember. I fell victim to this over 10 years ago with my original Man Dynasty for Sims 3. And I wrote the rules! Lol. Good luck in your future attempts.

Ha, ha! That's funny. It wouldn't be a challenge if it was easy!

Can I ask - are there basic over-arching rules for Legacies and Dynasties written somewhere? And what's the difference? I'm hoping not to fall flat on my face again in my next challenge.

No. Legacies and Dynasties are different animals. Dynasties are unique to this forum.

So sorry about the early end of your Big Dreams Dynasty.
With different simmers playing and writing about different challenges, it can be hard to keep all the rules straight.

The differences between our forum's dynasty challenges and non-forum legacy challenges are many.
Just as each of the forum's dynasty challenges has its own set of rules, each of the wide variety of legacy challenges has rules determined by its creator(s).
I'll send you a message to provide some explanation.
(*whispers:  Um, what about starting a Not So Berry legacy challenge?)
