Moving expansions from one hard drive to another without CD
« on: January 24, 2022, 06:02:27 AM »
I hope there's no existing thread for this, but I have a question about moving/reinstalling expansions and stuff packs.

I previously had 1 extension (Late Night) and 2 stuff packs installed on my computer. I bought a new pc, but my old hard drive (including the Program Files folder containing Sims 3) was transferred to the new pc as a secondary drive. I reinstalled the base game on the new system drive, but I don't have the CDs or codes for the extension and stuff packs anymore - however, all their data is still sitting on the old hard drive. Is there a way to make them usable while launching the game from the new drive? Can you just copy the extension and stuff pack folders over to the new drive? I'm assuming they need some sort of further installation to show up in the game.
Hopefully my explanation was understandable. I'd appreciate any answers.

It's my understanding that you cannot just copy Sims 3 installed from one computer to another without the game codes. How else will the new computer know that you own the expansions / stuff packs.

If you've registered your games with Origin, you can reinstall via the Origin client. Otherwise, contact EA's customer support. You may be given the option to purchase new game codes.

You might try posting about your issue on AHQ's forum for a second opinion.
