Far Beyond the Stars* - A Big Dreams Dynasty
[Titles of Episodes and the Big Dream Semi-Story are taken from Star Trek episodes ... at over 800 episodes all up (and increasing all the time...) there are plenty to choose from. I'll post details to the episode for anyone interested in the related post.]

Episode 1 - Far From Home

* Far Beyond the Stars was an episoide of the Sixth Season of Star Trek Deep Space 9. It was a noteable and groundbreaking episode for many reasons, not least because Avery Brooks (lead actor DS9) directed the episode in which his character was the leading character. It was very much about racism and sexism in the publishing industry and the producers decided that Avery was best suited to direct the episode as a result. It is generally considered to be one of the best of all Star Trek episodes. I am calling this attempt that because a pair of aliens on the Simworld dreaming of the home they had to leave, seems to be appropriate to me.

Surname - Bagel
You know those delicious pastries called bagels, don't you? Well, they needed a surname ...

Bea Bagel
(Name means Bug Eyed Alien)

Mote Bagel
(Name means Monster of the Episode)

Terran Bagel
(Name is another word for human - at least in Star Trek - The Terran Empire is the mirror universe initial bad guys; Adopted as nooboo, oldest child)

Betazoid Bagel
(Betazoids are a friendly alien, telepathic/empathic, matriarchal society - members of the United Federation of Planets - loves desserts and drinks; 1st child born to Bea and Mote, 2nd child)

Vulcan Bagel
(Race of Mr Spock, (well half Vulcan and half human technically) from Star Trek The Original Series (TOS), Mr Tuvok (Voyager), and T'Pol (Enterprise) (going to be revealed she was half Vulcan/half Romulan if they got to 5th season) - logical, touch telepath, scientific, musically inclined - founding species United Federation of Planets with human, andorians and Tellarites, they really are scientifically minded; 2nd child born to Bea and Mote; twin of Romulan, 3rd child)

Romulan Bagel
(Appears identical to the Vulcans, not telepathic, spies, shady characters, engaged in war with Federation from the shadows in time of TOS. Romulan star exploded which led to the latest three Star Trek movies. Romulans are generally getting up to all kinds of antics; 3rd child born to Bea and Mote; twin of Vulcan, 4th child)

Klingon Bagel
(One of the original bad guys of original Trek, initially they just looked like humans with goatie beards, but in time they developed bumpy foreheads and their love of Shakespeare, and in the case of Worf (TNG/DS9 and Star Trek VI), prune juice. Klingons don't really have gods as such, because their ancestors killed them all. They fight with bat'leths in battle, and try to become masters at anything they try - whether that be battle, sport, or something else; 4th child born to Bea and Mote, twin of Tellarite, 5th child)

Tellarite Bagel
(One of the founders of the Federation with Humans, Vulcans and Andorians; rarely appeared on screen (but is one of the characters in the animated Star Trek: Prodigy - the one that looks like a pig) they are very noisy and have poor social graces, but they are very good with technical things, just don't touch their wrench, or you'll get it!; 5th child born to Bea and Mote, twin of Klingon, 6th child)

Far From Home*

I don't recall what life was for us before we came here.
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
I didn't even know where here is or what it is called
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
My mate, he is pink with a bumpy forehead**, I am blue with a bumpy forehead**,
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
and I decide to meet the locals.
We hear of a place called a 'bar', but we hear noises that hurt our ears and we smell things that disagree with our noses (I indeed need to run to the toilet to throw up) and we decide not to go there.
Instead we find a place that's filled with books and computers and we go in to read and use the computer to find out about this strange place.
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
There is a lot of talking and pointing going on ... they are calling me Bug Eyed Alien, and my mate, Monster Of The Episode. Bea and Mote, I like that, so does my mate. So no more me and my mate, from now on we are Bea and Mote. But these people have another name. One little boy tells Mote that his name is Alexander Goth. A strange name. When asked why he is pink, Mote tells Alexander he got sunburnt in Sunset Valley and to always wear a hat.
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
When we returned home, I was sick again, and ran to the toilet. I don't know what is happening to me. We decided I should get a test done, and I was got a result that I'm 'eating for two.'

Does that mean I've got a parasite*** inside of me?

Only time will tell. Mote tells me, he's been learning about something called vampires.
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
If I am getting a parasite, I'm going to want to remove it. I hear that repairs and upgrades can be made to objects and that woodworking is a good way of doing that. I've been making knife blocks, in the hope that I'll be able to use the knives to cut the parasite out if I need to.

We need to renew our strength and stop all the yawning, so we're going to lie down for a while. I will talk to you again soon, or Mote will. One of us will in any case

* Far From Home is the 2nd episode of the 3rd season of Star Trek Discovery and it follows the crew of the Discovery as they arrive in the 32nd century. They are 'far from home' both in terms of distance and time.
** The most distinguishing feature of most aliens in Star Trek is that they have bumpy foreheads of some kind. This relates back to original trek when they had limited funds for the episodes and green screen technology were still decades away. And so aliens were usually distinguished with bumpy foreheads that could be applied with (very simple) prosthetics. During the movies, the experimented with klingon make up and made it more interesting, and into The Next Generation and beyond, they expanded on the makeups of various aliens, but they kept Vulcans (and Romulans) simple, pointed ears and eyebrows and that hairstyle.
*** Trills are a star trek alien species that have a host and a symbiot - basically a large slug that lives inside their stomach. That species was discussed in 'Far Beyond the Stars' as 'a woman with a slug inside of her? Yuck'. The symbiot is long lived and does what they can do to guide and protect the host, who in term works to protect the symbiot. This is just a tongue in cheek reference tot hat

Great start! I love how your founders' names are actually acronyms of their much longer "real" names.

The best of luck to you, Watcher, and your colorful founders.
Are they living in Glimmerbrook?

I'm so excited to meet The Next Generation!

As a minor Trekkie myself (really only original and Next Gen) I'm loving the premise! Great start - looking forward to the next episode and the emergence of the "parasite"

Ok ... I've had a hiccup.

Both Microsoft and Origin decided it would be an opportune time to update things on Wednesday morning and I had failed to save apparently since last Sunday. Long story short, it was before the original twins were born and so well and truly before the second set of twins were born (thanks to daddy's abduction).

The Origin update also seemed to remove the Sims 4, the Sims 3, and The Bards Tale from my game library. These came back after Sims 4 was reloaded and I exited and reentered Origin.

The house where my computer is located is actually a different house to where I'm living currently (I am house sitting for someone for the next 6 months) and a member of the house with my computer in it tested positive to covid this morning. So I won't be back to play the Bagels for about a week or so. Long story short ... I learnt from it, will save more regularly and don't want to go through training those toddlers up again and have changed Founder Big Dreams.

Interestingly, the single abduction resulted in twins to daddy alien.

Mummy Alien is Still being tied up with family, while Daddy alien has switched from being a tech head to considering that family really does matter. I know this means that I'll have 6 toddlers to deal with ... but they are long living sims.

Let's see how long it takes before I go completely mad. Oh, and they aren't starting in Glimmerbrook any more, but rather the place with the hens and foxes and Sims 4 Aggie.

I'm so sorry that Microsoft, Origin, and the pandemic conspired against you and your splendid start with 4 alienboos off the bat.
I also usually restart a half dozen times before finally deciding that "Yes, this is where we shall live and how I want to start."
On the plus side, I'm glad to hear you are healthy.

Best wishes to you in your new start in The HoB. Wow, both family-based Big Dreams in the first generation!
Deklitch, my dear, you are seriously hardcore!
We await the toddler spam with bated breath.  Hmmm, I feel I should go buy more popcorn....

Re: Far Beyond the Stars (A Big Dreams Dynasty) - What's Past Is Prologue
« Reply #9 on: February 03, 2022, 09:04:57 PM »
I've shared the issues I've had, and have restarted. Same founders, but dad is now going for Family Matters rather than Tech Head, and mum is still going for Family Ties.

So yes, that means six toddlers running around ... though so far I've had two, one adopted and one natural birth. Dad has been abducted as well, but it doesn't look as though he has been *ahem* probed.

I've also changed my naming scheme for the offspring.

Generation 2 are Terran (m - adopted), Betazoid (f - birth), Vulcan, Romulan, Klingon and Tellarite.

So far Terran and Betazoid are in the family with mum and dad, mum is pregnant with (I hope) twins - especially as I remembered to add in on a ley line as a lot trait.

We are starting off in the hens and foxes town with Sims 4 Aggie as previously mentioned. I got in a lot of playing time last night, and screenshots, but I'm on a laptop now not my desktop so I can't include the pictures, yet.

What's Past Is Prologue*

Bea - Watcher?!? What are these things?

Watcher - They are tents!
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
Bea - And that?!?

Watcher - That there is a shower tarp!
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
Bea - And why is there no toilet?

Watcher - You have a bush for that! A party bush!

Bea - And why is there not an oven?

Watcher - Because where you're living, you don't need no sticking oven!

Bea - But we do need a rocking chair, a cooler, a toddler jungle jim and two cheap and nasty computers?

Watcher - Of course, oh and how could I forget potty chairs, a toddler pool and a rubbish bin?!?

Bea - Why watcher, there are bugs, there are foxes, there are chickens,

Watcher - actually, I turned off all lot challenges and put in three lot traits - child's play, good schools and study spot**

Bea - But we don't have any children.

Watcher - ... yet. Mote, why don't you and Bea check out the tent can withstanding shaking and love hearts?

Mote - My pleasure, Watcher, come my darling, she of skin so blue, bumpy forehead a different blue and costume cut down to the 60's Trek budget.

Bea - When you put it like that, how can a girl refuse?

After the tent rocked and love hearts fell ...

Mote - Was that as good for you as it was for me, Bea?

Bea - Wow, I saw ... fireworks, and yes, it was.

Watcher clicking on the toilet - Ok, get in there and take a pregnancy test, Bea.
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
Bea - How romantic! But, ok. tests I'm pregnant!

Watcher - and as for you, Mote, adopt a baby.

Mote - Boy or Girl?

Watcher - doesn't matter, just as long as the name is Terran. You are both aliens, Terrans (Or Humans) are being counted as normal Sims.
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
Mote - Ok, yes, I want to adopt, yes, a nooboo, a boy please, any of them called Terran? No, but you've got one called Eric? Oh that's a half a bee? No thanks, I'll take Bob, and change his name to Terran.

and so the household of two became a household of three and mum and dad got themselves twisted around the little fingers of Terran. Terran's first job was to potty, and despite multiple accidents, and much crying, disciplining by dad, socialising with dad and talking with dad, mastered potty and worked on becoming a top notch toddler.

While Mote was providing childcare, Bea spent her pregnancy as a freelance programmer. Over the first week she prepared spreadsheets, preventing hackers, and designed apps. By the time she was in her 2nd trimester, she had completed 3 freelance jobs and working on her fourth.

Meanwhile, Mote joined the education ranks. He worked from home as he knew that six top notch toddlers would need both parents. But, he needed special computers to complete academic research and so the family took several trips to Britechester, where he researched, Bea spoke to passer byes and Terran played on his tablet. On the second visit ...

Bea - Watcher!!!!! I need the hospital, now.

Bea went to the hospital (I didn't follow her) and Mote went home with Terran. Bea came home with a little girl, Betazoid*** who was pinkish like Mote who got aged up almost immediately to a toddler.
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
Much playing continued between the toddlers, there was an abduction of Mote (which doesn't seem to have resulted in a pregnancy and Bea and Mote tried for one or two more toddlers - a pregnancy test later, and Bea was once again eating for more than one
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
Terran is almost a top notch toddler, and Betazoid is a small bit behind him. I'm hoping they will age up before or just after their next sibling(s) arrive.

Success, Terran is ready to age up as a top notch toddler, while a very pregnant Bea is working on a freelancing job
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Progress
Bea - Families Ties: 6/30 Freelance jobs; 8/21 days
Mote - Family Matters: 2/10 Education work at home
Terran (child) - Top Notch Toddler
Betazoid (toddler) - maxed potty/movement; 4/5 communication; 3/5 thinking/creative

*Season 1 episode of Discovery (I think that's right, either Discovery or Picard, and I'm certain it wasn't Picard)
** I realised later on that the reason why she only gave birth to one and not two nooboos was that I didn't have on a ley line selected as a lot trait.
*** Star Trek, The Next Generation, had a Betazoid on the crew, Deanna Troi, the ship's counselor. Betazoids are telepathic and empathic and are a very much matriarchal society. They look just like humans, though all have black eyes. At one stage, Gene Roddenberry was reportedly considering giving them four breasts, thankfully though that never happened. Deanna Troi was also known for her love of chocolate and desserts.

Yay, thank you Deklitch!
And look at your family go!  Terran already Top-Notch and Betazoid so close, too!
I enjoyed seeing your choice of "starting out essentials."

So brave of you to start with the two Family aspirations! But you are spacing the toddlers apart just perfectly.
I hope your dynasty is as enjoyable to play as it is to read about!
Good luck!

Re: Far Beyond the Stars (A Big Dreams Dynasty) - Rascals
« Reply #14 on: February 09, 2022, 03:42:24 AM »
Pictures (and more details on progress) to come ...

Rascals*
What is better than 2 young adults, 1 child and 3 toddlers?
2 young adults, 2 children and 2 toddlers ... and shortly after the start of this, Betazoid became our second top notch toddler and caked up!

Here she is playing at the doll house with mum Bea.

Here she is along with dad Mote helping big bro Terran to make his school project.

Betazoid wasn't very happy to learn she had little sisters, but that was alright, she and Terran pinky swore that they'd be the besterest of best friends for ever.

They played chess together and also played on the jungle gym. There were also monkey bars that she enjoyed and the swings. They became a pair of rambunctious scamps and artistic prodigies.

Mum and Dad said that they'd both be pursuing their own big dreams, which might change things for them, but that would be too much to bear and Betazoid thought it was unbearably sad. (Hey, if Sims 4 can use the jokes, why can't I?

The family were bringing in the simeloens, due to Mumma Bea's freelance work. Dadda Mote has been working from home as a school teacher and now as a professor.

First Terran and then Betazoid got A's in school, and were now working through scouting and childhood skills and aspirations.

Their little sisters were working hard at becoming top notch toddlers as well. While both Terran and Betazoid were angelic toddlers, Vulcan was Inquisitive and Romulan was Independent.

Mote taught Vulcan to potty, while Romulan would take no telling from noone, she would learn to potty all by herself!

Actually, Romulan would learn ALL skills by herself! She had a wabbit tablet and it would tell her what she needed to know. And there was nuttin' that mama or dadda could do to stop her from doing that! She would stamp her foot if they tried to teach her flash cards.

And make a mess until she was left alone! Of course, big brother Terran was there to clean up the mess and get his character traits going in the right direction.

Mumma Bea discovered she was eating for two again!

And while Vulcan and Romulan were still working towards being top notch toddlers, she headed off to hospital
Just before the end of this posting, firstly Vulcan and then Romulan aged up as top notch toddlers as well.

As a result, Mote had successfully raised Terran, Betazoid and Vulcan as top notch toddlers and had checked off another requirement towards his big dream. Bea had successfully raised Romulan as a top notch toddler and just had wild Klingon and inquisitive Tellarite to go.

So what's better than 2 young adults, 1 child and 3 toddlers? 2 adults, 4 children and 2 toddlers and tantrums, messes, sleepovers, homework, games, science, scouting, toys and best friends. It seems I need to 'encourage' Mote to get through his super parent stuff - shame if he doesn't get to go full parent mode before the kids age out of the need of it!

*Rascals was a TNG episode in which members of the crew (Captain Picard, Keiko O'Brien, Ensign Ro and Guinan) were de-aged into kids and had to take control of the ship from the Ferengi who had wrested control of the ship from the adult crew! Picard got to throw a tantrum and demanded to be taken to his 'daddy' - the First Officer, and the other three supporting cast members got to do various things that kids do. I enjoyed the episode.)
