Custom Content Disappearing
« on: January 15, 2022, 07:36:30 PM »
Hi, not sure if there's already a topic about this. But I was re-installing my cc, it worked fine in the game, then installed more, and some of my previous files disappeared. I've also had some issues with files not showing up after installation and wondered if this happens if you have too much cc. I currently have 22 DBC files in my dcc catch plus the installed EA files. Some of the patterns and previous outfits that I used in a previous game were missing when I went back to it. The only thing I did was delete my cache and thumbnails, which I do every so often. Anybody else ever had this problem?

Hi Bonnie,

Yes, I've had this issue before. It is documented in another thread - I think you need to look in the technical issues threads.

It basically has something to do with the size of the files of CC/store bought content. If you attempt to upload/install a file larger than the limit on the size, Sims 3 basically goes, that's too big for me to handle, so I just won't install any of them. This is a limit due to the technology available at the time of Sims 3, and I don't think there's a way around it.

A spreadsheet has been put together by someone who has a recommended order in which to reinstall the CC/store content and which ones to put together to get the CC/store content 'to remain saved.' On a laptop at the moment, and away from my gaming computer, so I can't be more specific than that, sorry

MrsFlynn along with some others helped with this. MrsFlynn may be able to provide better assistance than me.

Dek provided the links I would have if I had gotten to answer quicker.

What I can add is that it's a known issue that the Sims 3 launcher is known for making custom content and store content "disappear".

From what I have been able to tell, it's still there, it's getting the launcher and game to recognize that it's there.

I usually install custom content via the mods\package folder. It has a less chance disappearing. Here's a post I made that helps explain installing CC without the Launcher.

HowTo: Install Sims 3 Custom Content without the Launcher

With store content I only install some favorite sets and some of the worlds. This helps to not overwhelm the launcher.

thanks, I have quite a bit of store content and cc from TSR that I use, some package mods but I usually prefer simpack files. Some of the items in question (patterns and a few outfits) were working just fine in game, then when I installed more content, it disappeared.
