Sims 3 crashing without error message (CC Related)
« on: January 14, 2022, 12:57:05 AM »
I'm getting less than a minute of gameplay before The Sims 3 crashes.  I get no error message.
I played yesterday for a few hours and today it will not work.  Help?

So far I have tried restarting it after restarting the computer, lowering my display settings to make them worse (waaaaah), and repairing from Origin all to no avail.  Next I disabled Origin in game and I don't know if that's helped yet because I have to get to bed.

I should add that I noticed lag times getting longer and longer while I was editing my Sims' outfits and hairstyles, shortly before the crashing started.  I was also on a lot with a huge house and lots of landscaping.

I evicted and moved my Sims to a smaller lot with less objects and that didn't help.  I thought maybe the Sims' clothes or hairstyles might be problematic, so I switched to a previous household I was able to play yesterday with no problems, but it's crashing now as well.

I then deleted about 500 custom content files that I no longer want AFTER the crashing began and that is not helping either.

There are several reasons for the game crashing. Here are some tips for general crashing:

Try going through them to see if anything helps. If not you might try posting about the issue over at AHQ ~

At this point I have tried almost everything and nothing has worked.  I am trying to find some files in my "installed content" to uninstall, but I can't find them.
I downloaded CC Magic but I find it almost as unwieldy as the S3 interface.  If I click the "enabled" checkbox by an item, what does it do?  Does it uninstall or disable it in the game for me?  It isn't clear.

I have made some progress as far as realizing that I can play infinitely with the edit town screens, or if I get get a sim to go to a dresser to plan outfits - but as soon as I do anything in game time/press play, it crashes about 5 seconds later.

So far I have tried resetting the town, resetting my current household and the ones I was editing before, moving them out without their house, saving a copy to the library and replacing their house and then the sims.  I've deleted the cache files and logged in and out of Origin.  I have a strong suspicion that it's corrupted CC but trying to find it has been an exercise in frustration and futility so far.  If the beginning interface had an "uninstall" button on the "downloads" screen or any kind of search function on the "installed content" screen this would not be nearly as frustrating as it is.

I just want to play :(((

I don't know how to use CC Magic. You may need to look for videos or blog articles on how to use the program.

When I have problems with custom content I usually create a new Sims 3 folder and start installing the CC files little by little.
