2021 Tournament Big Dreams Finale

2021 Tournament Big Dreams Finale

Goal
The team is soon unveiling the next annual Dynasty with the central theme around completing "big dreams." These are grand life pursuits much larger than Aspirations and are the brainchild of GlazeyLady. Glazey and the team are doing something never done before — we're offering players a sneak peek at the Dynasty via this Tournament Finale. And, here's the best part — you can continue the Dynasty with your Tournament file! How cool is that? And don't forget — this is a major event, so it counts as two regular events for your World Ranking.

General Challenge Rules

Specific Challenge Rules
  • In CAS, create two YA Sims, any life state, as spouses. The founding couple is exempt from all toddler, child, and teen requirements for their Big Dreams.
  • Additions to the household through birth, adoption (any age) and marriage only.
  • Spouses joining the household replace the teen and younger requirements with completion of both: 1) The Most Interesting Sim in the World achievement of having 12 traits and 2) One unique (among spouses) collection not part of their Big Dream.
  • Each collection must be completed entirely by the Sim who has that requirement without using any kind of copying or cloning technique.
  • Each Sim may have only one spouse and may never remarry.
  • Your household may use the phone to move at any time to an empty house or lot; everyone in the household must make the move.
  • Early age-up at any time after requirements for that age are complete.
  • Each Sim may only complete one Big Dream.
  • Big Dreams must be unique until you have started all that you will be able to complete (based on the packs you have). Then you may start a second round of unique Big Dreams. Second and subsequent rounds do not have to be in the same order as the first round.
  • If a Sim dies before completing a Big Dream, that same Big Dream has to be completed by another Sim before that round is considered complete. If you have already started a subsequent round, the incomplete Big Dream must be assigned to the next available Sim.
  • Sims may only move out after completing a Big Dream.
  • Your household may create one custom holiday per week.
  • You are allowed to use the Buydebug cheat for the sole purpose of purchasing a satellite to prevent abductions.
  • Use of the "bb.moveobjects on" cheat is allowed for this challenge.
  • Any Sim that wishes for promotion at the Wishing Well, must wait one week before wishing for promotion again.
  • Alternatives to Scout activities and Character Traits must be completed before age-up to YA. This means founders are exempt from completing these.
  • Players may add one rental lot or change one residential lot to a rental lot in each town that doesn’t already have a rental lot.
  • Players may download residential lots from the gallery (at your own risk) through the Gallery function in build mode (no free real estate), provided that there are no career reward items on the lot.
  • Players may replace, add, and edit community lots (player-made or gallery) at any time (again, at your own risk).
  • If you get an offer of $50,000 (or any large amount) you must decline the offer.
  • If your sim is working on the "Master Maker" aspiration you may encounter a known bug that prevents fabrication gigs from completing. After sending the item to the client and getting the client's response on your Notification Wall, if the gig does not register as complete, you may cancel it and count it as done. When you've completed 5 gigs and everything else in the aspiration is done, you may use a cheat to complete the aspiration. If you don't know how to do that cheat, please refer to the Cheats Page here on Carl's Guide.
  • The Challenge will end on Week 6, Day 1, 8 am.

Spreadsheet

The attached spreadsheet lists the requirements of each Big Dream. Please make your own copy before updating. It is designed so that you can add your Sim name at the top of the column for each Big Dream, and then check off each requirement as your Sim completes it.

2021 Big Dream Finale Spreadsheet

Scoring

Big Dreams completed — At Week 6, Day 1, 8 am., count 100 points for each Big Dream completed.

FTMFamily Tree Multiplier. Start with a Family Tree Multiplier of 1.00. For every Sim in the Family Tree who completed at least 3 Big Dream requirements (includes Sims who finished a Big Dream), add .01 to the multiplier.

Total — Multiply your Big Dreams total by your FTM for your Total.

Here's an example:

Big Dreams completed = 8

Sims in the Family Tree who completed at least 3 requirements = 13 (8 that completed Big Dreams and 5 that completed 3 requirements but did not complete Big Dreams)

Big Dreams Total = 8 * 100 = 800
Family Tree multiplier = 1 + .13

Total = 800 x 1.13 = 904

Ch-Ch-Changes
The team does not want to edit and make changes to the ruleset once this event goes live, but we may have to. If an exploit is brought to our attention or we discover something else we may ask affected players to redo their effort.

Have Questions?
If you have questions and need clarifications, ask away — you can either post your questions in this thread or if you feel a question might reveal a particular strategy you are considering, then feel free to PM the team. Choose the My Messages tab > Send Message > Send to Group (show membergroups) > Check the Challenge Board Moderator group.

And the Winner is...
After this event has closed everyone is encouraged to discuss how they approached the event. The winner is expected to provide detailed information on their strategy. Keep notes as you play your file.

This Event is Now Closed

10/8 — Work from home careers mean those where there is no option to leave to go to work.

10/10 - Correction to above. Work from home career - any career that allows your Sim to work from home every day, and your Sim must do that - no going to work.

10/11
Added two new rules:
     - Each sim may have only one spouse total. If there is a divorce or death, neither spouse may remarry.
     - Your household may move at any time, but everyone in the household must make the move and they must move to an empty lot/house - no moving in with another sim. The move must be made using the phone, not using Manage Households.

Modified:
     - Previous - Big Dreams must be unique until you have completed all you can complete (based on the packs you have). Then you may start a second round of unique Big Dreams. Second and subsequent rounds do not have to be in the same order as the first round.
     - Current - Big Dreams must be unique until you have started all that you will be able to complete (based on the packs you have). Then you may start a second round of unique Big Dreams. Second and subsequent rounds do not have to be in the same order as the first round.

Added to existing rule:
     - Children and teens do not have to attend school on system-created Holidays that come with the day off. You may create additional holidays whenever you want, but only 1 per 2 weeks can include the day off from school/work. (This was subsequently changed - see "Removed school attendance rule" below)
     - Updated Soulmates requirement regarding honeymoon to say that the honeymoon must start the day of or the day after the wedding.

10/12
Removed school attendance rule:
     - Previous - Children and teens must attend school every day (no vacation or sick days from school). Children and teens do not have to attend school on system-created Holidays that come with the day off. You may create additional holidays whenever you want, but only 1 per 2 weeks can include the day off from school/work.
     - Current - Your household may create 1 custom holiday per week.

Modified for clarity:
     - Previous - Spouses joining the household must complete the Most Interesting Sim in the World Achievement (12 traits) and complete 1 unique collection (not completed by any other spouse and not required by the sim's Big Dream - this sim must do all the work of acquiring the collection). This replaces the toddler, child, and teen requirements, as those can't be met by an incoming YA or older.
     - Current - Spouses joining the household replace the teen and younger requirements with completion of both: 1) The Most Interesting Sim in the World achievement of having 12 traits and 2) One unique collection not part of their Big Dream.

New Rules Added:
     - The Wishing Well may only be used to wish for promotion once per week per sim
     - Players may add 1 rental lot or change 1 residential lot to a rental lot in each town that doesn’t already have a rental lot.
     - Players may download residential lots from the gallery (at your own risk) through the Gallery function in build mode (no free real estate) and provided that there are no career reward items on the lot.
     - Added requirement that initial 2 founders be created in CAS as spouses.
     - Players may replace, add and edit community lots (player-made or gallery) at any time.
     - Each collection must be completed entirely by the sim who has that requirement.

Rules Removed:
     - Once a Sim moves out, they can't move back in.

Updated Spreadsheet:
     - Added alternate requirements on several Big Dreams to make playable with Base Game.
     - Changed/removed/added a few requirements.
     - Added one new Family-Oriented Big Dream playable with Base Game only.
     - Added indication of packs required for each Big Dream.

10/13

     - Added rule: Alternatives to Scout activities and Character Traits must be completed before age-up to YA. This means founders are exempt from completing these.
     - Added alternative Satisfaction Reward on Foodie.
     - Changed Music to My Ears requirement of earning $25,000 in tips to "Play for tips for 25 hours on community lots".

10/14
     - Added "(among spouses)" to the collection uniqueness requirement - that was accidentally lost when I reworded that. So it now is: Spouses joining the household replace the teen and younger requirements with completion of both: 1) The Most Interesting Sim in the World achievement of having 12 traits and 2) One unique (among spouses) collection not part of their Big Dream.
     - People Person Big Dream - added Shameless as an alternative to Incredibly Friendly, and added a musical instrument as an alternative to singing to keep it base game eligible.
     - Soulmates Big Dream - Replaced "Buy Incredibly Friendly" with "While a teen, mentor other sims in any skill for 10 hours" as the alternative to the Compassionate Character Trait to keep this Big Dream base game eligible.
     - Love 'em and Take 'em - Changed the alternative to the Irresponsible Trait (discovered that Make messes is still part of Parenthood) - it is now Smash a dollhouse 10 times and "Slack off" at school for 3 days.
     - Added: "If a Sim dies before completing a Big Dream, that same Big Dream has to be completed by another Sim before that round is considered complete. If you have already started a subsequent round, the incomplete Big Dream must be assigned to the next available Sim." This is to prevent players from killing off Sims in order to avoid a more difficult Big Dream. Not that anyone would ever do that . . . but just as a precaution.  ;)

10/15
      - Modified: "The Wishing Well may only be used to wish for promotion once per week per Sim" was changed to "Any Sim that wishes for promotion at the Wishing Well, must wait one week before wishing for promotion again."
      - Added: If you get an offer of $50,000 (or any large amount) you must decline the offer.

10/16
      - Modified: "Each collection must be completed entirely by the Sim who has that requirement" to include "without using any kind of copying or cloning technique."

10/24
      - Added: If your sim is working on the "Master Maker" aspiration you may encounter a known bug that prevents fabrication gigs from completing.

11/7/21
Modified multiplier example to be more clear that the Sims who completed Big Dreams DO count for the multiplier.

Looks awesome! Thank you team!

What do we count as a work from home career though? Only the ones that have no option of going to work whatsoever, or also the ones that can be done both ways (from home/out of home, as long as we always work from home in fact)?
Also, what age groups can we adopt?

Thank you @Nikitachi - I'm glad you like it!

Any job that allows your sim to work from home, and that is what your sim does - no going to a workplace.
You can adopt at any age, but all elements of the Big Dream have to be able to be satisfied - for example, if you adopt a child, that sim can only complete Big Dreams that don't have any toddler requirements.

I don't see any Big Dreams that don't have any toddler requirements. Does it mean we can only adopt babies or toddlers? :D

A few more questions:
- "Soulmates": honeymoon for 3 days in any vacation world - can we take other sims to the vacation other than the newlyweds?
- "Master Mixer": Make and drink every drink recipe at least once - there are two drinks that require being in an Austronaut career, level 8 (and even if a sim reaches level 8 in Astronaut career, these are for two different branches, so one sim can't make both). And there's also Snaggle Fluster which is super rare and random. Are we required to make any of these three?
- Regarding the collections: do we have to complete the full collection according to our game packs we own, or is just completing the base game slots enough?

Regarding adopting - sorry, I am working on additional Big Dreams for the Dynasty version and didn't check to see that the Challenge ones all have toddler requirements - the sim has to complete all requirements of the Big Dream, so if you adopt a child, that sim would not be able to complete a Big Dream. That doesn't mean you can't adopt a child, if you have some reason in your strategy to have a sim in the household that can't complete a Big Dream; it just means there won't be any points other than the multiplier for that sim, and that sim can't be moved out. Also, you would not be able to age that sim up early.

Soulmates - if your sims want others along on their honeymoon, go for it!  :)

Master Mixer - I updated that to say, "Make and drink or use every kind of drink available to you through level 10 of the Mixology skill." But I will do some testing on that after work today - I'm not sure if the vampire ones show up for non-vamps, and if so, whether a non-vamp can drink them. I will check and update that if necessary. Also will check to see if the Astronaut ones show up if you are not in that career. I don't think Snagglefluster shows up at all unless you have the recipe, so that would be covered by the new wording as it would not be available to you.

Collections - It's everything in the collection panel - that might mean it's a little more difficult for players with more packs, but more packs also typically means more other things that make life easier, and none of those are banned, so this seems fair.

Thank you for your questions! Please keep them coming. Also, if you see anything in any of the Big Dreams that looks questionable or that you think is particularly difficult or that concerns you, let me know - questions and input makes a better challenge and in this case, a better Dynasty.

Bravo on a fun new dynasty challenge! The bundling and titling of the Big Dreams are great plus the early age-ups for toddlers and older sims are always appreciated.
I love the inclusion of in-game achievements and the spreadsheet is so easy to understand.
I did have a question about the fish collection, but that's already been answered.
The vampire drinks only require the Vampire Lore skill to make but only vamps can drink them.
And I didn't even know that Astronauts could make a special drink.

Two questions (for now):
(1) Is the bb.moveobjects on cheat allowed?
(2) Additions to the household: do we keep an alienboo resulting from an unintentional abduction?

Thank you for the info on the Vampire drinks - I'll update that such that they have to be made, but if the maker is not a vampire, then drinking them is not required. But I do want to keep the Vampire Cure - it can be made and used by a non-vamp.  :D

I'm glad you asked about bb.moveobjects - we typically don't allow it for challenges except for stuck objects, but we do allow it for Dynasties, and this challenge is going to lead into a Dynasty. We want to keep the rules the same as much as possible, so I think bb.moveobjects should be allowed for the challenge. If anyone on the team thinks differently, please let me know.

And you can keep that alienboo and I'm sure he/she/they will have an awesome Big Dream to pursue!

A Big Dream designed exclusively for an alien sim would be galactic!  On a serious note, that would be super cool.

I'll be waiting to hear the Team's response to MOO. It's quite useful in a Tiny House, but also nice for landscaping.

My Sim just cured 7 vampires in my Seven Heroes Dynasty and she did have the option to “Drink Vile Concoction” when she made the cure.

I am loving that this transitions into a Dynasty game! I have started many Dynasties, but I was never able to complete one. Maybe I will be successful with this version. :)

I have a few questions about the Financial Whiz (FW) Big Dream.

I understand how a sim could complete Fabulously Wealthy by herself, but the Rosebud Achievement is based on the household's total earnings.
After the Financial Whiz earns her $200k for the Fab Wealthy aspiration, tracking her earnings separately from the household would be time-consuming.
May we count the Rosebud achievement for that single sim's Big Dream, though it tallies the entire household's earnings?

Regarding Mansion Baron, how do we make sure our FW does most of the work?
If our FW is Gen2, are the parents limited to furnishing the home lot only as required by the rest of the household's Big Dream requirements?
(that is, aspiration-related skilling objects and such) in addition to the usual basic furnishings?
Is only the future Financial Whiz allowed to add paintings, landscaping, windows, and columns?
My apologies for over-thinking this, but I want to do it right. :)

Yes, the household money is going to count for Rosebud - you don't need to worry about that, you just need to achieve that while the sim who has that Big Dream is able to contribute - so as long as that sim is alive in the household and can earn money - which really is as a child, since they could sell things they collected or drawings, etc.

No, none of those rules that make it a nightmare to track  ;) - you just need to make sure the sim who has that Big Dream is contributing to the money, and that the aspiration is achieved while that sim can complete that aspiration - so they would have to be at least a teen, and should be the only sim in the household with that aspiration at the time, so that they are the first to achieve it. Other sims can then change their aspiration and rake in some free sat points.

And keep the questions coming - the challenge will only get better for them.

I'm really glad you like that idea!  It was Metro's idea by the way.

The team would be interested in hearing if you (all of you) would be interested in future challenges that would lead into some of our other current dynasties. Let us know if you would like to see that.

Is this challenge meant to be so Parenthood heavy? It appears to be required for at least 14 out of 17 big dreams. And one of the remaining 3 looks like it requires you to have both seasons and outdoor retreat to do it, so that's also out for me. Or would I be able to do something else instead of meeting the character trait requirement? Parenthood is one of the packs I'm least interested in. (For the record I have GTW, C&D, DU, TL, plus one I haven't installed yet, JA)

Perhaps you might consider including a few more big dreams which are doable with just base game only and/or with base game + 1 pack...? eg. life long learner seems to be mostly themed around DU but it still requires Parenthood and Seasons, similarly for Master Scientist and Vampire Monarch. Though I guess you probably have other dynasty challenges that are more suited to players with limited packs. I'm not a dynasty player personally - short(ish) challenges are much more my thing.

(I definitely don't expect to be able to do everything. In my case it was a deliberate choice to be a late adopter and only adding to my packs gradually is also a choice albeit influenced by limited income. But it is a little strange (imo) that having 3 big packs is no help and I can still only do the same two dreams that a base game only player would be able to do. If you want to keep this dynasty accessible to the widest possible range of players (which might not be a goal if you have other dynasties for this), my suggestion would be to aim for roughly something like 4-5 dreams doable with basegame only, another 4-5 just requiring a single pack, then the rest of them whatever goes).

"Big Dreams must be unique until you have completed all you can complete (based on the packs you have). Then you may repeat."

Once you can repeat, do you have to repeat all of them (available to you) before you can repeat one for the 3rd time? Or can you just repeat whatever you like as many times as you like once you've managed to complete every big dream available to you?

Also can I start an offspring working on the toddler/child requirements of a big dream before it's older sibling has completed the same big dream? Because if I have to fully complete the only 2 big dreams available to me before the next 2 kids can start working on anything, that seems like it could be a significant disadvantage. The founding couple at least get a bit more freedom thanks to being exempt from the earlier requirements.

"Spouses joining the household must complete the Most Interesting Sim in the World Achievement and complete 1 unique collection (not completed by any other spouse and not required by the sim's Big Dream - this sim must do all the work of acquiring the collection]"

I'm confused by this. Surely a spouse is not going to be able to complete a big dream because they join the household as an YA/adult (and therefore can't completely any toddler/child/etc stuff) so why is there the bit about "not being required by a big dream"?
