Just got caught up with your story, LOVE IT!

So I'm curious, do you just play until the story seems to have reached the end of a "chapter" or do you have a set time amount that you play each one?  How did you decide which families to play?  I'm so interested in your story that I started a game file in Bridgeport just to mess around and have fun with doing something similar.  I'm thinking 5 days per household, but I'm interested to hear what you do.  :)

Thanks for your comments everyone, I love getting them. :D

Aria, I started playing each family for 5 days, but in Round 3 I changed to 8 days, and I find that more fun. I went through all the neighbourhoods (including BB) and picked families that I found interesting. Some I chose because they had interesting stories (e.g. the Sargeants), while others I chose for their interesting facial features (e.g. the Grisbys), and some I just found endearing (Molly Coddle, if I remember correctly). The ones from sunset valley I had started playing a little beforehand, which is why couples like the McGraws, Steels, and Crumplebottoms were already married. If you want to try it yourself, go ahead, but it is a little tricky keeping everyone aging correctly. I use a little notebook to write notes on the family I'm playing, including a day tally with birthdays, births, and sims leaving home marked on it. Then when I'm done with that family, I update their info (on the game) with how many days each member has. So, it might say Christopher +8, which means he has gone 8 days into his current life stage. Also, turning story progression off isn't perfect. Some things still change, like sometimes a sim with no job will take one up and get far into it before I play them next. And I can't leave pregnant sims between rounds, because they'll have the kid before I get back to them (I played a family longer than 8 days once so I'd catch the kid). But despite these difficulties, I really enjoy this way of playing. It means I can play so many different kinds of sims, which I couldn't with a single family generation game.

Time for the Darer-Coddle family! I had a lot of fun with this one, and I've decided to do a little suspense - at the end of this post there'll be a question, which won't be answered for maybe a day (we'll see how long I can wait to break the news lol).

So, the Darer-Coddle family:

(Adult) Molly Darer-Coddle - mother/widow
(Child) Jay Darer-Coddle - son/brother
(Child) Ming Darer-Coddle - daughter/sister

Their house, that I built mostly from scratch:

Life is truly grand for the Darer-Coddle children. They have lots of fun. Jay likes his tree house ('The Terrible Haunted House'), but Ming wishes he'd let her play in it too - he's more likely to throw water on her. Ming plays on the trampoline instead with her friend Rebecca McGraw, while Jay invites Marlin Lin into his boys-only tree house. Jay likes to think of himself as all-grown-up, but he still enjoys a good submarine ride in the bathtub, and a butterfly hunt. But Jay and Ming do play together sometimes, like when they go to the local pool. And both children are reminded of their father when they play with the toys he made for them.

Meanwhile Molly is doing well with her career - she's promoted to Gene Therapist (medicine career level 7), and she works on her logic skill because she's a bit behind on that. She always finds time for her children, whether it's reading them to sleep, or helping them with their homework. She also took them to the Lin's house party one night, and to the pool where she relaxes in the hot tub.

Before long it's time for Jay's teenage birthday. What does he wish for before he blows out the candles? He's grown into the spitting image of his father, but goes for a more exciting hairstyle. Molly wasn't particularly happy with it, but she let him do it anyway. She also let him move into his father's old shed, which he likes because it still smells like his dad - like the scrap metal he was always working with. And to everyone's surprise (even Jay's) he is now a vegetarian.

Jay is overall, a rebellious teenager. He has his better moments though, like when he read Ming to sleep one night. And when he skipped school, it was to paint at the beach where he could relax and think clearly - he reaches painting level 4. He throws eggs at people's houses, but he also works on his martial arts skill, which he finds very calming - he gets to athletic level 2, and martial arts level 1.

Molly is not happy with Jay's behaviour. She's doesn't understand why he can't keep at least a passing grade, and she gives Jay a good talking to and sends him to time out. Jay was determined to sulk until his mother gave in, but then he remembered how desperate he was to learn to drive. So, a little begging for forgiveness, and Molly was ready to take him to learn to drive. Molly is also happy that Jay has got a job as a grocery store clerk after school.

Ming also enjoys painting, and has claimed the only easel in the house. As a contrast to Jay, she's on the honour roll at school, and does so well at Ballet that she shows off her skills to her friend Marlin Lin, and dances at a Ballet Recital - she gets a trophy! When she ages up, she holds a party for all her friends. She chooses the same neat hairstyle, and gains the athletic trait.

You might think that's all that's happened in this family, but there's one last surprise. Molly is promoted to Infectious Disease Researcher! No, that's not the surprise. This is:

Yes, Molly is pregnant! She has a beautiful little boy that she names Shen. But who is the father? In the next update I will reveal the baby's photo and who the father is. :)

...Oh, and when his brother was born, Jay was reminded of the wish he made on his birthday. He didn't wish for a baby brother, but he's happy anyway :P

Who is the father? I shall know!
Happy Birthday to Ming and Jay! Love Jay's hair and Ming's way to use my pattern! You can say whatever you want but you are both a great builder and renovator! Great update!

Ooooo, more maternity leave coming up for Molly! I hope she's found a wonderful man to spend the rest of her life with, not just a one night stand. But which ever it is, it is sure to make her life interesting!

hmmm, 2 comments, pretty good :) . I can't wait any longer...

The father of Shen is:

none other than Juan Darer! ... bet you didn't guess :P

Lily, I do have someone (alive) in mind for Molly, but that is way in the future.

I have played the Sargeants too, lots of fun, so their story will be next!

Oooh, I hope Shen gets his dad's red skin! It'd be nice to see that particular gene passed down.

I actually really like Jay's unique features, and the style you gave him suits him perfectly. Y'know, with the mohawk, he actually reminds me a bit of Nervous Subject from The Sims 2.  :)

lovesims, I too am glad that Ming looks like her mum. I like that I got both parents look's in the kids - I like Jay's unique features too. I wonder who Shen will look like? :)
Ausette, Shen's a ghost so I'm not sure if the red skin will show even if he has it. Perhaps if he has a kid one day, it might be a red skinned normal sim? Or do ghosts always have ghost babies?

Now for the Sargeants! This shall be a colourful episode! :)

(Elder) Scout Sargeant - mother/wife
(Elder) Bobby Sargeant - father/husband
(Child) Bold Sargeant - son/brother
(Child) Gentle Sargeant - daughter/sister

I forgot to take a photo of the house, sorry, but it hasn't changed much since the first shots that I would have taken in round 1.

Life is a little dull for the Sargeants right now - they're all going about their days as usual. Scout is having to do lots of reports for work, Bold and Gentle work on their logic skill together. Bold tries to discover new potions in the attic, and Gentle hones her skills on the video games. But this boring life ends when Bold ages up to a teenager.

Bold's parents are horrified by his choice of clothing and hair style. They quickly move all his new, rainbow furniture up to the attic, which Bold was counting on - he redoes the attic for himself in rainbow colours. Bold gains the Party Animal trait and chooses Golden Tongue, Golden Fingers as his lifetime wish. Bobby and Scout despair for their family's normal reputation - they can't possibly stay hidden in plain sight with a walking rainbow for a son! But Bold is not moved from his bold outlook on life - he will have his way, no matter what happens.

In Bobby and Scout's eyes, it all goes downhill from there. Bold asks Evann Grisby to be his girlfriend - even her bright clothes pale a little next to Bold's outfits, but Bold loves her for being the brightest girl in town. Bold joins the music and drama clubs. Then one night Bobby and Scout are invited away on a free vacation. Gentle suspects foul play - she knows Bold is smarter than he looks - but she decides not to say anything, as she's a little interested in what will happen. Bold of course throws a party for all his teenage friends - rainbow balloons, effect machines, music, make it into a colourful night. The police eventually break it up, and Bold manages to hide all the evidence in time for his parents' return. Gentle, meanwhile, is just quietly working out in front of the tv.

Bobby is promoted to Squadron Leader (army level 8), and then to Top Gun! He perfects the athletic skill, and completes his Perfect Mind, Perfect Body lifetime wish! Scout is also promoted, first to Undercover Specialist (law enforcement level 7), and then to Special Agent! To the horror of both of these secret agents, they find themselves with celebrity stars - Bobby has 3, Scout has 2. They're both stumped for what to do - they can't have the public prying into their lives. They may be old, but they still have secret agent assignments to do! Finally, they decide that the best thing to do is present a normal family to the paparazzi (Bold, don't show your face!), and they start using canes to appear more frail.

Gentle is being the dutiful, quiet daughter that Bobby and Scout always wanted. She's level 10 in logic, and on the honour roll at school. When it's time for her to age up, she does it quietly. She gains the Perceptive trait, and joins the newspaper and sport clubs. She allows herself a little bit of her favourite colour (purple) in her outfits, but otherwise goes for normal clothing, hair, and furniture. Bold decides the perfect birthday gift for Gentle is a stink bomb. Gentle has the satisfaction of then watching him drink his own liquid horror potion - what was he thinking?

....and that's the Sargeants! Next up is the Bernard family :)

Oh WOW! I bet Scout and Bobby are seriously regretting naming their son Bold now, aren't they?!

Delightful update as usual, Pally.

Somehow Kermit the frog is singing "Rainbow Connection" in my head.  Wonder why?  Could it be Bold's new clothes?
What?  Grannies can't play games?
I speak perfect Nooblik, (and some Simlish)!

Finally another update - I guess I go through fazes; I played sims a lot for a week or two and then needed a break. But here is the last family I played through before my 'break'. Also, before I forget, I want to thank everyone who's patterns I have used in the game. I don't remember all your names, though I know Gogowars is among them. They really make the game more fun - so thank you! If you want, you can mention that I used a pattern of yours, and I'll acknowledge it, I just don't remember myself. :)

Ok, so here's the Bernards. I had a lot of fun with them:

(Adult) Elaine Bernard - mother/wife
(Young Adult) Yves Bernard - father/husband
(Child) Strawberry Bernard - daughter/sister
(Child) Raspberry Bernard - daughter/sister
(Toddler) Blueberry Bernard - son/brother
(Baby) Blackberry Bernard - son/brother

I forgot again to take photos of their house, but it really hasn't changed much...

Life for the Bernards is full of children and birthdays. It takes co-operation and hard work to care for all the young sims, and tend the garden and nectar-machines, and keep the house clean. It's also hard to juggle everything with one shower to share, and all the kids in one room. But the Bernards find the fun in it every time.

First, a shot of Strawberry and Raspberry, who have swapped their hideous undershirts for something plainer:

Strawberry and Raspberry find it a little hard sharing a room with younger brothers. Almost every night they are woken by one of their brothers crying, and have to find elsewhere to sleep: the couch, or grandpa norman's old bed in the barn. But there are good things about their lives too - they're never without a sibling to play with, and their big backyard has many fun activities to enjoy. The house is full of vampire gnomes, drawn by the plasma fruit in the garden, and birthdays are coming thick and fast. First, Blueberry ages up into a child. He gains the family-oriented trait, because he loves being in such a big family.

Here's a pic of the kid's room, with Blueberry's new bunk. And a photo of Strawberry, who has just aged into a teenager! She's actually kinda pretty, and finally gets out of the family overalls into clothes of her choosing, though she doesn't have much fashion sense. She gains the Handy trait, and is quick to join the shop club at school.

Strawberry is very pleased to be allowed to move into her grandfather's old room above the barn. She adds some of her own flair to it, though her parents won't let her choose the wallpaper. And then it is time for Blackberry to age into a toddler! He's got his dad's hair colour. And then, Elaine gives birth to the 5th member of the family - Mulberry! He is born with the traits: Easily Impressed and Virtuoso.

Blackberry quickly becomes best friends with his doll Rags, and the older members of the family pitch in to teach him all he needs to know. Meanwhile, the children (Raspberry and Blueberry) have no cares in the world - their lives are full of play with the only responsibility being homework. They play in the sandpit after school, or jump on the trampoline, and often invite friends home with them. And something very exciting has happened in Strawberry's life. She manages to convince her father to give her his latest aquisition from the consignment store - a time machine! She sets it up in a special room in the basement, and leaps into her first trip to the past! She sees countless wonders, including a cathedral being built! She enjoys her time, and comes back with a huge sculpture to decorate the yard.

Mulberry ages into a toddler, and he looks just like his brother Blueberry did at his age.

Life is getting easier for Elaine and Yves now that Strawberry is old enough to help out. She takes over a lot of the toddler's needs when she is home, leaving her parents more time to garden and make nectar. Yves is up to his 30th batch of nectars (he names them after numbers), and Elaine has achieved the Master Gardener skill challenge. Still, there are always chores to do, no matter what stands in their way (like being electricuted trying to fix the washing machine). Blueberry has found a best friend in Isolde Fang. Raspberry goes on a bug hunt, and really enjoys it - she wants to catch bugs for the rest of her life! And then it is time for Raspberry's birthday!

Raspberry is even prettier as a teenager than Strawberry - those plaits of hers really suit her too. She has better dress sense than her sister - shown by her choice of formal wear. She gains the Adventurous trait, and joins the sports club.

Blackberry also ages up, gaining the Exciteable trait.

Strawberry and Raspberry are now forced to share a bed, but they're good friends so they don't mind. Elaine introduces the newest member of the family - a boy named Cranberry, born with the Slob and Clumsy traits. She is a little worried about Blackberry though - she caught him having a pillow fight with himself! Strawberry has learnt that not every time travel trip is fun - she didn't at all enjoy her trip to the future. Blueberry is on the honour roll at school, and so life goes on for this big family. What will happen to them next? Can you keep track of the boys and their names?

... next will be the Windsoar family (nina, her hubby and the twins). I hope you enjoyed this family - I really enjoyed playing them :)
