Tamiyo's Rags-to-Riches Challenge

Tamiyo is taking a more casual approach to the rags-to-riches challenge.
There are several versions of "the official" Rags-to-Riches Challenge for Sims 4, but I'm making my own rules.
I say "casual," because she and Naoki started from scratch, but camped out together the first two weeks.

Tamiyo's Rules
1. Objective: To earn 1,000,000 simoleons by herself.
2. Lot traits: Off-the-Grid, Simple Living, Wild Foxes. (I may add a condtion later that allows removal of the Off-the-Grid lot challenge.)
3. Household: No moving other sims into the household until she completes or ends the challenge.
4. Sales: Tamiyo may only sell her stuff through Plopsy, Finchwick vendors, the Creature Keeper, or a vendor table.
5. Earnings: Based on her Fabulously Wealthy figure, which is $29,079 lower than her Rosebud Achievement figure.
6. Travel: She may only travel outside of Henford-on-Bagley in response to social invitations or festival notices.
7. Vacation: As long as she has vacation days available, she may vacation in Granite Falls, Selvadorada, and other towns with rental lots.
8. Magical HQ: She may make one visit each time she reaches a new Magic Rank.
After reaching the highest rank (Virtuoso), she may make unlimited visits to Magical HQ.
9. Paintings: She will only paint with the aim of completing the Painter Extraordinaire aspiration.
After that, she will use other means to generate income.

Other rules may be added as needed.

Our Best Lives: Starting Our Adventures in the HoB
« Reply #4 on: August 29, 2021, 02:45:16 AM »
Our Best Lives: Starting Out

Friday
Tamiyo:  Do you remember me? I am the 44th child of a recently-done Life States Dynasty.
Since its completion, I've been brainstorming how I can realize my dream of a life retart.

I have a general idea of what I want to do, but how exactly do I get from here to there?
Perhaps I should consult my brother Renji, a warlock who lives in Glimmerbrook.

Renji: Hey, it's good to see you, Tamiyo, but why the sudden visit?
I thought you were enjoying life with your fancy job and your fancy Willow Creek House?
Tamiyo: Not really. I only moved there to distance myself from our parents.
In fact, I came to see you in hope that you could help me start my life over.
Renji:  Please step inside, Tamiyo. We can't discuss such a serious matter standing on the porch!

Tamiyo: So, in a nutshell, I want to redo my life as teen to pursue the life of my dreams.
Renji: And what would that  involve, specifically?
Tamiyo: I want to make my own choices and live my best life, not just be a cog in someone's dynasty challenge!
Watcher: *coughs
Renji: How fascinating. I can certainly help with your first step.  Grab your coat and let's go!

Renji: Thank you so much for meeting with us, Sage Simeon.
Simeon: Well, of course, that's what I'm here for. Oh, is that a new face I see?
Tamiyo: Yes. I'm a born spellcaster but this is my first visit to the Magical HQ.
Simeon: Renji, I take it your sister's the reason for this meeting?
Renji: Yes, let me explain…

Simeon: Is being aged down to a teen what you really want, young lady?
Tamiyo: Yes, Sage Simeon, with all my heart! And I know exactly where I want to live, too.
Simeon (casting a magic spell): Remember: if you change your mind later, I can't help you.
Tamiyo: I'm a teen again!

Tamiyo: Something I've always been curious about is Scouts.
As soon as Renji and I get back from Magical HQ, I sign up!

Renji: Scouts?  Seriously, Tamiyo? I don't really understand why you want to be a teen.
Tamiyo: I want to live a new life but without all the adult responsibilities, like settling down and raising a family.
As a teen living on my own, I can experience freedom and independence for a change, y'know?

Tamiyo: I walked out of my Willow Creek house, leaving everything behind.
My parents bought that place with money they earned.  That house belongs to them.

Luckily for me, Renji says I can stay with him until my departure.
Yawn, I'm absolutely beat!

Saturday
In the morning, I head back to the Magic HQ and Sage Simeon looks happy to see me.
I'm here to properly thank him for what he did for me yesterday.
*whispers: I'm, uh, also killing time until my afternoon scout meeting.

Renji: Here are some gifts you'll find useful in your journey: a Bone Wand and a Classic Wood Broom.
Tamiyo: What thoughtful gifts! They'll always remind me of you and my spellcaster lineage!
Renji: I also got you this dragonfruit.
Tamiyo: I'm sorry but I can't accept the dragonfruit. Tempting, yes, but it'd make my restart too easy.

Tamiyo: Ugh, that scouts meeting was so boring. Great idea to ditch it early! You been scouting long?
Naoki: I signed up yesterday. Part of my prep for moving to Henford-on-Bagley tomorrow.
Tamiyo: No way! I'm also moving there Sunday, but I don't know what to do once I get there.

Tamiyo: So you used to live here in Senbamachi?
Naoki: In that house next to the park, but my family moved away without me yesterday, so I live here at the park for now.
Tamiyo: Why would they do that?
Naoki: Well, my father disowned me for refusing to eventually take over his fund management firm.
Hey, let's go somewhere else. Do you see the weirdo lurking by my former home?
Tamiyo: That "weirdo" happens to be my father who seems to be stalking me.

Tamiyo: Hey, what are your plans after reaching Henford-on-Bagley?
Naoki: My late grandfather left me a dilapidated farmhouse in Old New Henford.
Only problem is, I don't have the funds to make it livable. *shows its photo to Tamiyo
Tamiyo: Wow, your grandfather's house looks kinda like a traditional Japanese version of…

Naoki: I know, right? Like the starter farmhouse in Stardew Valley! You play that game, too?
Tamiyo: Erm, I might have dabbled in that game a little. *coughs
Naoki: What about you? Word at school is that your parents are loaded.
Tamiyo: They are, but I plan to start over from zero, so I'm planning to begin by camping out in the Isle of Volpe.

Tamiyo: It's decided! Naoki and I will temporarily join forces and camp out at the national park.
Maybe until we earn all our scouting badges and can afford to live solo.  Like earn $20k total?

Before leaving, we'll earn badges that'd be hard to get in Henford-on-Bagley (aka The HoB).
First stop: Desert Bloom Park for the Young Scientist badge.
The park has both a microscope and an observatory so we don't have to take turns.

(Watcher note: at this point, they're still in my life states dynasty file, where Desert Bloom Park had been edited to include both objects.)

Sunday
Tamiyo: Last night, we did half our paintings for the Arts & Craft badge at the Art Gallery.
This morning, we return to San Myshuno to finish painting the last three.
Just in time for our scout meeting.
Naoki: What about we save our paintings to sell after we reach the HoB?

Tamiyo: We're leaving now, Renji.  Thanks so much for all your help and your hospitality.
Naoki: Thank you for letting me stay here last night and for funding our Art & Craft paintings!
Tamiyo: We'll pay you back for the paintings as soon as we can!
Renji: No rush, kids. Hey, I know you two are just friends, but I hope you'll help each other out.
Let me know how you're doing from time to time, you hear?

Tamiyo: We've arrived in the HoB, but we're not off to such a great start, are we?
Naoki: We're fine! Even though the airline misplaced our luggage so all we have left is our homework.
Tamiyo: Too bad about the local law against using the Isle of Volpe as a campground.
Naoki: On the bright side, the Mayor's letting us camp in this empty lot in FInchwick
Before the planned construction starts, you and I will be long gone.

Tamiyo (still whining): Why is it so dark here?
Naoki: We left Glimmerbrook in the late afternoon, but it's only 8 am here due to time zones.
Watcher: And because I moved their household to a new save in a different folder.

Just as we're thinking of heading into town, the Welcome Wagon arrives.
It's the Mayor and her son Rahul, the Scotts who own the pub, and Kim who runs the Grocery Shop.
Cecilia Kang, who lives in Old New Henford, also visits.
They bring the customary fruitcake, which Naoki quickly stashes in his inventory.

While Naoki's off running errands, I extinguish two fires at our campfire.
Time to get rid of the campfire and the burnt-up mushroom chair!
A campfire will be nothing but trouble!

Tamiyo: Later, Naoki and I spend a few hours in The Bramblewood.
An errand from the Grocery Shop lady, Kim Goldbloom, takes me to the Creature Keeper's lovely home.
I'm dying to see how he decorates the interior! Will I ever be invited inside?

Monday
Agatha Crumplebottom: Did that skimpy outfit and those puppy-dog eyes work on Kim at the Grocery Shop?
Naoki: You mean did she give me a discount and a selling bonus?  Yes, she did!
Agatha: Well, don't be trying that trick on cousin Agnes and I.  We're not that desperate.
But um since you're new in town, I'll offer you a discount anyway.

Watcher: In my "defense," that is supposed to be his "farming by himself in the hot sun" outfit.
But he chose that to wear to town over his two other everyday outfits, lol.

Tamiyo: We're not good friends or anything, but I'm glad we came here together.
Naoki: That's how I feel, too! It's more fun roughing it with you for a while than starting out by myself.
Tamiyo: It sure is hard earning any money, though! I didn't imagine it would be this hard!
Naoki: Well, with the selling bonus I got in town today, I bought us a small tent.  No more sleeping on benches!
Tamiyo: Just one tent for the two of us?
Naoki: Yeah, I could only afford the one for now. But, don't worry, I won't bother you. Scout's honor!

Naoki: I appreciate you helping me with the Mayor's Community Center project.
The Frog Bundle needs 9 unique frogs: 4 common, 4 uncommon, and 1 rare.
With both of us looking for frogs, all I'm missing now is two common frogs.

Tamiyo: Honestly, I'm not being entirely unselfish.
I'm thinking we could buy a vendor table and breed the high-end frogs to sell.

Remarks
*Gameplay:The idea of the two sims starting together then later moving to different lots came from the Build-a-City Challenge.

*My sims: Both Tamiyo and Tatsuya came from MyLibrary, but in different saves.
Tamiyo was the 44th child of my recently-played Life States Dynasty.
I aged her back to a Day 1 teen then removed all reward/bonus traits and skills she gained after her in-game teen birthday.
I'd previously played Tatsuya to the end of his child stage, so I only removed his Scouting Aptitude trait.

*Changing Folders: In the pre-HoB phase, I played Tamiyo & Naoki in a copy of my Life States Dynasty game.
They kept the six paintings they'd each made to sell later in the HoB.
Then I exported their household to a new The Sims 4 folder (using Sims 4 Tray Importer).
In their new save, they lost all of their personal inventory except those blue homework books.
So, before setting their funds to zero, I bought them new Scouting Boards.

*Naoki: I redid Naoki's face to resemble my all-time favorite Japanese actor, Tatusya Nakdai (photo belo).
Since referring to Tamiyo and Tatsuya could get confusing, I renamed him Naoki Nakadai.
Naoki can be written using different ideograms, but I'm imagining the ones for "to plant" (Nao) and "tree" (ki).
Also, I learned that making sim lookalikes is not in my skill set.
But, hey, I tired and, even though he looks nothing like his model, I love this sim anyway.

Our Best Lives: Ain't No Stopping Us Now

Week 1, Tuesday
Tamiyo: We're staying at 5 Cobblestone Street for now.
The lot's conveniently located near a grill, picnic tables, and public restrooms.
As you can see, we've expanded our garden quite a bit.
Besides the tent, I guess all our money's gone into garden patches and seeds.

Naoki's fishing up something for dinner while I finish my homework.
We've been trying to decide what our priorities should be.
First of all, we need to earn our last 4 scouting badges.
Second, we have to try to save more than we spend.  Duh.

Third, the errands earn us items that are otherwise inaccessible at this point.
But some require us to buy stuff to complete, so maybe we'll just do some easy ones or not do any at all for now.

Wednesday
I'm a bit worried about Naoki and, no, I'm  not just feeling jealous.
Ever since that whole shirtless episode on Monday, Kim Goldbloom's been acting weird.

Like today after school, Naoki goes to sell the fish he caught yesterday.
Get this, Kim comes out of her shop and chats with Naoki until all the shops close, so he couldn't sell his fish.
And I don't want to earn money from selling Naoki's things, so…

Thursday
Naoki: I make a killing selling the fish I caught over the past two days.
With our massive funds of $269, the first thing I buy is a mirror for Tamiyo.
Ever since we came to the HoB, she gets hysterical several times a day.
Then, we have to rush to the Gnome's Arms so she can Try to Calm Down.

I can tell she's feeling bad about spending money on a mirror.
So I suggest that we also buy a knitting box for her.
She's delighted, of course, and immediately starts knitting animal clothing.
She thinks that, for now, that's her best option for selling her crafts on Plopsy.

Friday
Naoki: After school, I check out the Garden Shop and can't resist buying a Lily.
Sigh, how do we go through our money so fast?
Oh right, Tamiyo's started buying wool for her knitting.

Before going to bed, uh, to tent, Tamiyo lists her latest creation on Plopsy.
Someone immediately snatches up that cow sweater for $641!

Check us out living the life!
With that cash influx from Plopsy, we buy a vendor table and a rocking chair.
Oh, tomorrow's a Finchwick Fair, which might draw tourists!
On the minus side, we only have $27 left.

Saturday
In the morning before Scouts, I sell a whopping $2,000+ worth of Whirlyflower Frogs.
After Scouts, though, the Finchwick Fair is all everybody cares out and I only sell a few.
Tamiyo's back at our base, knitting away.

Watcher: No, she's not. She dropped that queue to practice debate at the new mirror.  *sighs

Tamiyo: When Naoki returns, we buy lots of useful stuff.
I don't understand why so much of it's for me, though.
Naoki says his Grandpa's house is already somewhat furnished.
Maybe he'll show it to me one day before we go our separate ways?

Week 2, Monday
Naoki: Here's a mystery I wish someone would explain to me.
Tamiyo and I can't use our phones on our lot because it's Off-the-Grid.
So why can Patchy play BlicBloc on his phone?

On the way to town, I see the Grocery Shop owner chatting up some dude.
What a surprise to see Agnes Crumplebottom at the Grocery Shop.
Because Kim's not there, I can sell stuff but I can't buy anything. Bah!
Anyway, time for more frog sales.

Tamiyo's having a mood swing today. She should be at "home" doing homework.
But she came to the vendor table and started whining to the customers. *sighs

I understand she feels bad but I ask her to do her homework or something.
Maybe she's like that because she grew up around so much money?

Naoki: When we arrived in the HoB, I was a B student and Tamiyo was a D student.
I've been an A student for a while so I take a vacation day.
Usually, I don't like Patchy much, but today I find 3 Dragonfruit in his pockets.
I've already planted one Nice Dragonfruit that I got from grafting, but  3 more is even better!

Tamiyo: I earn my last Scout badge tonight!
About time, too, cuz Naoki earned his last badge two nights ago.
Yay, now I can quit Scouts, too!

Wednesday
Sara Scott: Wow, first time seeing you two sit down and order something here. What's the occasion?
Naoki:  As of today, my BFF's an A student.  That's worth a celebration, right?
Tamiyo: *blushes
Sara: Since you're both here, I gotta ask about your plans in our fair town.
Folks've been wondering why two teens are living on their own on that empty lot.

Tamiyo: Naoki and I are only starting out here together in the beginning.
Eventually, Naoki's moving to his Grandpa's farmhouse in Old New Henford.
Sara: Oh, that run-down place at 2 Olde Mill Lane has passed down to you, Naoki?
Naoki: Yes, ma'am. I'll be fixing it up and moving in soon.

Sara: And you, Tamiyo?  I know that ole farmhouse isn't big enough for two.
Tamiyo: Oh, I'm planning to get a place of my own, but I'm still deciding between two lots.

Tamiyo: My goal is very straightforward: I'd like to earn $500,000 on my own.
Or maybe that should be $500,000 on hand? I'm not sure yet.
I'll only sell things through shops, the Creature Keeper, Plopsy, and the vendor table.
That Creature Keeper also buys foraged items, I hear.
Sara: So what are your housing options?

Tamiyo: Buying our campsite lot in town would be convenient for errands, shopping, and yard sales.
But for only $75 more, I could live in a lot of the same size in The Bramblewood.
There's a cottage there now, but I'm told I could bulldoze the lot if I so wish.
Naoki: My vote's for that place in The Bramblewood. I'd go fishing nearby then drop by to visit you.

Sara: And what about you, young man? How'd you end up inheriting Grandpa's farmhouse?
Naoki: In grade school, I always loved spending summers with Grandpa on his farm.
Since Grandpa passed away, I've missed him so much.

Then, in high school, Papa insisted in enrolling me in all the business-related college prep courses.
He owns a successful investment firm, which he expected me to take over someday.
Grandpa's the only one who's ever encouraged my love for the farming life.

After Papa disowned me, I got a phone call from our family lawyer, telling me about Grandpa's will.
He gave me a photo of the farmhouse, taken several years ago.
Yesterday, I took a day off from school and visited the place.
Cleaning up all the debris will take some work, but it'll be worth it.

Naoki: And the Mayor promised to send me some folks to help with that in exchange for a favor.
Sara: A Finchwick favor?
Naoki: She wants my help in building the HoB's new Community Center.

Tamiyo: That doesn't seem like a very fair exchange to me. The Mayor's just delegating.
Naoki: Actually, the Mayor will unlock a building restriction on my land with every bundle I submit.
You can read all about my challenge here in the post Naoki's Stardew Valley Challenge in the HoB.

Tamiyo: What's that storage box to the right of the house?
Naoki: In Grandpa's day, the Mayor came every midnight to buy things Grandpa left in that box.
But the current Mayor doesn't that do anymore.

Sara: Let's get down the nitty gritty, kids. You know how much seed money you'll need?
Naoki: I'm supposed to start my challenge with zero funds, but I'm making a few exceptions.
One, Tamiyo and I will split up the frogs.
Two, I've done most of the gardening, so I'll take at least one of each seed, then sell the rest of the produce.
Tamiyo: Naoki's inherited a house, so he's helping me start building mine.
That's why I need more starting funds. Plus, we're doing different challenges.

Tamiyo: At the moment, we have exactly $5,426 in cash.
I bet if we sold off our produce at home, we reach our goal of $7,000 tomorrow.
Naoki: Yeah, but don't forget I'm waiting for four Nice-quality Dragonfruit to mature.
Also, I'm hoping that my grafting will also produce Nice-quality Orchids soon.
Tamiyo: Oh, right. You'll only take what's in your inventory and leave me the plants.

Thursday
Tamiyo: I thought you said the woodworking table's locked behind a bundle that requires a house expansion.
Naoki: It is, but I want to go ahead and learn the camping mascot schematic tonight
That way, when I eventually unlock the woodworking table, I can start crafting mascots to sell right away.
Once my solo challenge is underway, I'd rather not be traipsing around the simverse.

Friday
Naoki (proudly): Look at that beauty!  My first giant crop is a watermelon.
And I do believe that the vegetable behind it will be a giant aubergine!
Now, how can I get a hold of more Super Vitality Fertilizer?  Errands? Caring for livestock?

Naoki: Hey, I think we should leave for our separate homes tomorrow after harvesting our garden.
After I sold our produce at the Garden Shop today, we have $12,000+ in cash which is all yours.
Tamiyo: And I  made you 4 paintings with a total value of $5k which you can sell on Plopsy, hopefully for more.
Naoki: I have two Dragonfruit and one Orchid, possibly more tomorrow.
My only regret is that I won't get to see that aubergine grow to full size…

Tamiyo: So it's settled!  Tomorrow's moving day!

Remarks
"Tomorrow" (Saturday) marks the end of Tamiyo and Naoki's second week in the HoB
From Sunday, I'll start playing these two in rotation, one week at a time.
I'm so looking forward to getting them set up in their very different lives and to building Tamiyo's starter home!

Our Best Lives: Adventures in the HoB - Moving Day
« Reply #8 on: September 01, 2021, 01:22:49 AM »
Our Best Lives: Moving Day

Week 2, Saturday
Naoki: It's my last day selling produce here before we both move from Finchwick.
Agnes initially refuses then agrees to give me a 10% selling bonus.
Plus a 25% buying discount.  Score!
She seemed mean at first, but she's actually pretty kind-hearted.

Naoki: Alas, the aubergine I raised with such tender care won't mature before I move away.
Tamiyo: Oh please! Just drop by my place two days from now. *rolls eyes

Naoki: I want to take a selfie with my aubergine but can't get a good angle.

Naoki:You know I can't expand my house or upgrade my furnishings until I win first place in a Finchwick Fair, right?
After my first win, I can add a separate kitchen to my one-room house.
Tamiyo: Yeah, I skimmed your challenge rules. Why are you telling me this now?
Naoki: Please don't compete against me with this aubergine in the next Giant Crop Fair, okay?

Tamiyo: Thanks for coming to check out this place with me.
Naoki: If you want to do flower arrangements, you'll need more garden  space.
Ask Watcher to move the house and animal shed as far back as possible to opposite corners.
Tamiyo: You mean I should keep this house?
Naoki: Sure! You can afford it if it's smaller and nearly unfurnished. Keep the livestock area, too!

Naoki: See you around, Tamiyo! It's been fun!
Tamiyo: Hey, we should meet up now and then. I'll invite you to a picnic next week!
Naoki. Sure thing. But why is the mailbox you knitted in the middle of the lot?
Tamiyo: Oh that? I'm worried that I'll forget it if I leave it out front.

Naoki: I move out first, taking zero dollars with me.
I admire my farmhouse's clean(er) yard and its new location on the left side of the lot.
Then, I realize that a Plopsy listing costs $5 an item.  Darn it!
To list Tamiyo's paintings, I'll need to return to town to sell my fish and maybe even some frogs.

Tamiyo: Watcher remodeled this lot until its furnished price dropped from $19,333 to $10,483.  Yay!
Downsizing from five rooms to three, it's now a 64-tile Tiny House.
And look at all the empty space at the front and middle of the lot!

Hmmmm, I got a bit carried away with my garden. It won't be so easy without Naoki!
Oh! It's the Welcome Wagon!

Derek McMillan (left): What IS this room?
Ian Moody (right): In Japan, it's called an LDK for Living/Dining/Kitchen area.
Derek:  But there's no living area! One loveseat does not a living area make!
Ian: Hey, look at the sign there.  We need to remove our shoes.

Ian: Pssst, Derek.  You need to take off your shoes like Tamiyo and me.
Derek: I would if I could, love, but I've got a hole in my right sock!

Derek: So, dear, tell us all about what brought you to The Bramblewood.
Tamiyo: Well, uh, it's a really long story.
Ian: Do we look like we're in a hurry to go somewhere else right this minute?

Naoki's giant aubergine matures with a sales price of $690.
Harvesting the plant gives me two perfect aubergines: one worth $350 and the other $340.
Since Naoki did all the work of growing these, he deserves to have one!
I'll just make a quick visit to gift it to him!

Naoki: When it's (finally) my turn again, it's around 5 pm.
Since I moved out with zero simoleons, I go to town to sell my fish first.
Again, folks are more interested in today's Finchwick Fair than my frogs, but frog sales alone still earn me $1,000.

Please don't worry about understanding all the rules of my challenge.
I'll keep you informed as I go along.  Here's my current progress.
Since I'll only get one more week in spring, I'm counting the Spring bundles I already completed.
In fact, I completed the Summer Crops bundle, too, but I'll be redoing that one in summer.

You can see my rewards for completing two of the bundles: the coop and extra garden patches.
The chicken coop is empty for now, since Week 3 will be Tamiyo's turn first.

I'll only be growing plants in season on my farm, until I can unlock the greenhouse.
But that can't happen earlier than my second week in autumn.
By the way, I can only plant in garden patches for now, except for trees which can be planted in the ground.

This one sheltered garden patch is my only exception to exclusively-seasonal farming
Here, I grow Dragonfruit, which I consider the equivalent of Stardew Valley's Ancient Fruit which grows spring, summer, and fall.

Ugh, I'm so impulsive! I couldn't resist buying my third reward item: a $715 wind turbine.
That puts me back at $249 and I don't even have the parts to upgrade it. *sighs
Welp, it's sayonara for now.  See you again in Week 4!

Coming next: Week 3 with Tamiyo

Glad to see you're using some of the children from your Life States Dynasty. Congratulations on finishing all of them!
Thank you @MarianT for your role in creating such wonderfully addictive dynasty challenges for us all!
And, yes, I'm enjoying being able to giving new lives to sims from other saves! :)

Nice, I like Renji!! I love that you use Japanese culture in your stories. I learn a lot from you.
@sdhoey  You mean, you like Renji in the Bleach manga!  (Or did you watch the anime instead? or both?)
As for Japanese culture, it feels great to be represented in the sims. :)
Thank you for your kind words!

Our Best Lives 3.1: We're On the Move

Week 3, Sunday (Spring)

Tamiyo: My first full day on my own!
Ever since Snowy Escape, so many townies spawn with names, but not facial features, that are Japanese.
That's why I laughed when I met this wild fox named "Kitsune," which means "fox" in Japanese.

But then he stole some Excellent Dragonfruit!
I'd heard foxes steal eggs and kill chickens, but never that they steal produce, too!
And do they really kill bunnies, too?  Oh dear!

In my garden, I meet Peter Rabbit who I rename Cacao.
I must knit some cute rabbit clothing for any bunnies I befriend!
Not a top-priority project, but certainly quite important indeed!

When Kitsune visits a second time, I immediately give him a gift.
Okay, he likes (but doesn't love) Snapdragon.
Great news cuz I'll have lots of those!
Maybe Kitsune needs an outfit, too?

I'd really like to live off-the-grid, but it's hard to add ice to my fridge.
It takes me from noon until 2:15 pm to walk from here to the river, gather water, and walk home!

Seriously, who wants to gather water like that every day? Not yours truly!
If I still had my broom, I could simply fly there and back.

I buy a Dew Collector to avoid gathering water on a daily basis.
See Patchy on the stump? He's the one I brought with me from Finchwick.
Who is this second Patchy and why the heck am I friends with Patchy II?

Naoki has such a clear-cut challenge but mine still needs defining.
When I check my Rosebud achievement, it says $27,596/$1,000,000.
I bet that total combines my Plopsy income with Naoki's profits from produce and frogs.
That's why I'll start out calculating my personal earnings based on my Fabulously Wealthy aspiration.

Tuesday
This morning I finished knitting an outfit for Cacao.
After I befriend Cacao, I dress him in his new outfit and ask for help in the garden.
Here he is, getting rid of bugs on my oversized mushrooms.  Too cute!

I'm a filthy casual off-the-gridder.
Buying the cheapest laptop, I head to the pub which is NOT off the grid.
Look, I just need to buy upgrade parts!
Besides upgrading my new bed (!), I want to give my fridge an efficiency upgrade so it'll use less power.

Naoki shows up, so we do our homework and have sodas together.
We go to the same school, but I always rush home once school's out.
It's nice to have a friend in this town.
And Naoki's hands-down easier on the eyes than any of the local townies.

I get back way later than I'd planned, so I can only do one bed upgrade.
Can't wait to sink into a soft, comfy bed for a change!

Wednesday
That Murphy Bed?  I rage-sold it last night.
The bed couldn't be pulled down because this lot has no power.
Guess Watcher's as much an off-the-grid noob as I am.
Watcher: *ignores Tamiyo's remark

Friday
I don't know how folks handle all the work on a farm!
Yesterday, I bought a rooster, a hen, and a hen chick.
There wasn't even enough time to feed them before school today!

Sorry, cluckers, but I can't stay and chat.
I've invited Naoki on a picnic for Love Day.

Up to now, Naoki and I have never been romantic with each other.
But since it's Love Day, I want to celebrate the holiday with my BFF.
I make a picnic and invite him to the Isle of Volpe.
So far, our Love Day picnic is nothing special.

For Love Day's romantic gift tradition, I'd planned to give him a rose.
But, on impulse, I gift him an Excellent Dragonfruit instead.
He's not smiling but all the hearts must mean he likes the gift.

In return, he gives me a rose. He's such a serious guy!

Tamiyo: I'm glad you came home with me. I've been wanting to show you my farm.
Naoki: Your garden looks great and I see you've got a few chickens, too.

Tamiyo: I can't decide whether to get a llama or a cow. I don't have room for both.
Since you're here, Naoki, would you help me clean the animal shed?
Naoki: Uh, okay.
.

Naoki: I don't know, Tamiyo. We've only known each other for three weeks.
(I don't want her to think I'm too easy, y'know?)
Tamiyo: Stop acting all innocent! I know about your Adoring sentiment toward Bella Goth!
Naoki: That's only a short-term sentiment. *shrugs

Watcher:  His sentiment surprised me, too. That red dress of Bella's must work overtime.

Tamiyo: Naoki and I finally reach an understanding and then…

Happy Love Day!
(So much for a platonic Love Day celebration between BFFs...)

Saturday
I'm not even done tending the garden, when Naoki phones me at 9 am.
A date to Club Calico? I've never visited Brindleton Bay before.

Today's the last day of my week so I have a gazillion things left to do.
But I say yes, anyway, because it's Naoki. (Also, I need to get back on Watcher's good side.)

At Club Calico, Naoki suddenly grabs me and leans me back.
At first, I think he'll give me a passionate kiss.
But he doesn't. Oh well.

Watcher: I love how autonomously intense Naoki can be. Can you tell me if you recognize that action?
I had Tamiyo give Naoki a Passionate Kiss for comparison, but there's no hand-holding in that one.

Naoki: We're on a date!  Why are you teaching me to knit here?
Tamiyo: Don't you eventually need to max the Cross-Stitch skill?
Naoki: Well, yeah.
Tamiyo: The higher your knitting skill, the faster you'll learn to cross-stitch.

When we stop in Finchwick for dinner on the way home, I get a notice about the Romance Festival.
Since we're out and about today anyway, I must go consult the Romance Guru.

Wow, thanks for nothing, Romance Guru!
Huh. Do you think Naoki and I are in an unconventional relationship?

Well, it's time for me to say goodbye until a week from now.
Before I go, I'd like to clarify how I'll be calculating my individual earnings.
According to my Fab Wealthy aspiration, I've earned $83,555 so far.
My Rosebud achievement has me at $112,634.
That $29,079 difference is probably my combined earnings with Naoki in Weeks 1 and 2.

For my individual earnings, I'll stick with my Fabulously Wealthy total of $83,555.

See y'all again in Week 5, which will be the first week of summer!

Remarks
Chapter numbers
I'll be playing each of my two sims a week at a time.
For now, I'll aim for each update spanning an in-game week, so the chapter numbers reflects the actual sim-week.

Season length
My setting is 28-day, 4-week seasons. Since I'm playing rotationally, 56-day seasons would be ideal.
Naoki might struggle to complete his seasonal farming goals in just two weeks per season, depending on the crop.
I guess we won't find out until summer.

Naoki and Bella
For the Mayor's "What's the Scuttlebutt" errand, Naoki had to eavesdrop on Bella Goth to hear her gossip.
But she wouldn't share it with Naoki until he befriended her.
They're friends now, but I have no idea why he feels the Adoring sentiment toward her.

Travel
In this playthrough, I don't want Tamiyo and Naoki to travel outside the HoB wherever and whenever they want.
Both Tamiyo and Noaki may travel in response to autonomous social invites and festival notices.
For the Magical HQ, Tamiyo may make one visit each time she reaches a new Magic Rank.
(Linking Tamiyo's Magical HQ visits to Magic Ranks is the brilliant idea of @Ricalynn . Thanks so much, friend!)

I’m pretty sure that interaction is one of the romantic interactions that get unlocked when your sim is confident. Sorry, I can’t think of the name off the top of my head.

Also I know I’m a little late but this story makes me want to get back into stardew valley :p
they/he pronouns please!

@Auranaris
You're right about the kiss--it's called Suave Kiss.  When I make my sims do it, though, they usually kiss the other sim's hand and bow.
I'm so happy for the rare moments when my sims autonomously do something cool.
Not just drop queues to drink water, dance, or barge into a budding romantic convo, lol.

Also, the nice thing about a Stardew Valley challenge in Henford-on-Bagley is that nobody has to do Skull Caverns, LOL!
Thanks for dropping by!

Our Best Lives: Adventures in the HoB 4. We've Got the Groove (3 Sep)

Our Best Lives 4. We've Got the Groove

Week 4, Sunday (Spring)
Naoki: It's my first week in my Grandpa's farmhouse and there's so much to do!
So far, I've collected 13 out of the total 25 frogs.

When we split up last Saturday, I took seeds from our garden but left the plants with Tamiyo.
That's why my garden looks so young compared to hers.
Maybe I should replace a veggie or flower with a second Sage for the Fall Herbs bundle?
Also, will that Galaxy Gnome raise my chances of getting abducted? Should I put it away?

I buy a rooster, a hen, and a hen chick right away.
But without a kitchen, I can't make any canned goods or animal treats.

I'd love a llama to help protect the chickens, but I haven't unlocked an animal shed.
It's just as well; Tamiyo won't be able to come over and pull any of her hanky-panky.

My home is a single, barely furnished room.
I've got my heart set on winning 1st place in Saturday's Oversized Crop Fair.
That would unlock House Expansion #1, doubling this room's size to include a kitchen area.
Until then, I'll be eating raw produce, buying cheese and bread, or going to the pub for meals.

I'd planned to spend today fishing, looking for frogs,  and befriending a flock of birds.
But today's New Skill Day!
While I'm in town buying Sage, I pick up some cross-stitch hoops, too.

I'm halfway to Level 4 Cross-Stitch when I stab my finger and have to stop.
Still, I'm pretty proud of my first creation!
Right, fishing it is!

Tuesday
This evening, I have an unexpected visitor.
Everyone's heard of the vampire Caleb Vatore of Forgotten Hollow.
I'm not sure what business he has with me, but I'm busy cross-stitching.
He surely noticed my candlelight, but he gives up and leaves after  while.

My challenge requires me to max Charisma, Cooking, Cross-Stitch,  Fishing, Gardening, and Handiness.
All that's left now is Cooking which, of course, requires a kitchen.

Wednesday
I seem to make friends with other sims quite quickly.
But not so with animals. (Would taking a photo of them help?)
I know nothing about chicken longevity, so I'm focusing my attention on this chick.

Today, after school, I get a surprise visit from Bella Goth.
She's come to give me a gift because I'm "such a good neighbor."
Hello? The Watsons and I are neighbors. Bella and I are definitely not neighbors.

I'm afraid I must take back my previous remark about my not being popular with animals.
Cougars seem to like me just fine.

As a Country Caretaker, I need to "Forage 5 items from in the Bramblewood."
In the Ruins, I find 7 harvestable Strange Mushrooms and complete that goal in one fell swoop.
(They turn out to be Verdant Mushrooms.)

Thursday
I haven't gotten as much done as I'd expected this week, despite skipping school twice.
My frog collection's almost done but it doesn't matter much.
I'm stuck at The Curator's "Collect 3 fossils" task.
Tamiyo tells me her mother fished up Limestones near their Arid Ridge lot.
Is it even possible to find Limestones in the Hob?

I've fished at every fishing spot in the Hob this week.
But my Fishing bundle still lacks a Catfish and Rainbow Fish.
My last stop tonight is Cordelia Falls next to Tamiyo's place.
I seriously doubt that Catfish and Rainbow Fish can be caught around here.
Watcher: I agree. The Vault bundle will be added for travel to Desert Bloom Park.

After fishing a few hours, I check out Tamiyo's garden and end up evolving nearly half of her plants.
Maybe she'll return the favor to my garden next week?

Tamiyo has a Dew Collector so I jump at her offer of a regular ole shower!
Her house is twice the size of mine and tastefully furnished.
How funny that she hasn't replaced this tarp shower from our Finchwick days.

Friday
Rupert the Rooster is looking fiiiiiine this cloudy morning.
At last, I remember to dress him in Colonel's Golden Outfit.
It was possibly a reward from an errand. I don't remember anymore.

Saturday
First thing, I complete the Fall Herbs bundle by harvesting my 40th leaf of Sage.
I sloppily place three more garden patches. No time for dilly-dallying today!
I tend the garden, care for the chickens, eat some bread, then dash off to town.

Today's the last day of my week, so I sell lots of spring produce.
The Finchwick Fair runs from 3:30 to 9:30 pm.
Before it starts, I sell various items from my vendor table at a 200% markup.
At 2 pm, I close shop and go home to have lunch and harvest my Giant Lettuce.

Look, there's the Mayor taking notes on the Oversized Crop entries!
My only competition is that eggplant, submitted by my neighbor Rahmi Watson.
It's her Medium Eggplant of unknown quality versus my Oversized Perfect Lettuce.
How can I not win first place?

When I go to butter up the Mayor, I notice the option to bribe her for $250.
Should I or shouldn't I?  I already have a much bigger entry than Rahmi Watson's…
Okay, just to make extra sure of my win, I flash the Mayor some Benjamins.

You've heard that Rahmi Watson and the Mayor used to be an item, right?
I wonder why the Mayor dumped Rahmi. Because she wouldn't leave her husband?

What if the Mayor's guilt over the breakup makes her hand 1st place to Rahmi?
I was feeling pretty smug about my huge Lettuce, but now I'm not so sure..

I did it! I won 1st place in the Oversized Crop Fair! *kicks heels
Here's the notification I received.

To celebrate, I dress my bunny amiga in a Yellow Sundress.
No, I certainly did not choose that outfit myself.  It was a reward from some errand.

I'm glad to complete the frog collection, but I still haven't found a single limestone/fossil..
There's a new Vault bundle that opens a direct bus service to Desert Bloom Park.
Tonight, I submit $7,500 of the total $42,500 required.
At Desert Bloom Park, I could finish the Fishing bundle, The Curator, and Angling Ace!

After House Expansion #1, my house is twice as large!
And I have a kitchen at last, though furnished with the cheapest appliances.
Still, I can't wait to start cooking my own meals, canning, and making animal treats!
Oh, where did the time go? It's time to switch to Tamiyo!

I spent most of this week on gardening, fishing, and frogs.
So I completely forgot to befriend a flock of birds.
Life's going to be so much easier with a kitchen! At least I hope so!
And once I finish the Canning bundle, the Vault bundle will be a piece of cake!

Addition of the Vault Bundle
A new Vault bundle has been added to Naoki's challenge.
In Stardew Valley (SDV), completing the Vault bundle opens a bus service to The Desert.
For Naoki, its completion opens a bus service to Desert Bloom Park in Oasis Springs.
I'm using the same donation amounts and total as in SDV: $2.5k, $5k, $10k, and $25k ($42.5k total).

The Mayor and Rahmi Watson
Have you wondered about the description of the Watson family in Manage Households?
Did you notice that Rahmii Watson and the Mayor dislike each other?
The Mayor has a "Guilty" sentiment toward Rahmi.
And Rahmi has a "Bitter about Breakup" sentiment toward the Mayor.
How did they find each other and what led to the Mayor breaking up with the very married Rahmi?

Casual Playthrough
This save was supposed to be a casual game, but I can't help playing Naoki's challenge like I play Stardew Valley.
I've never had my sims garden only in-season crops, so I'm enjoying working on the bundles.
I like how the Country Caretaker aspiration combines with Naoki's challenge to encourage exploring as much of Cottage Living as possible.
Tamiyo's weeks will be more chill, for sure.

Our Best Lives: Adventures in the HoB 5. Slow Living (4 Sep)

Our Best Lives 5. Slow Living

Week 5, Sunday (Summer)
Tamiyo: I don't know how I do it!
I wake up, take care of the chickens and garden, go to school, and it's already late afternoon.
Then, I craft some things and it's night.
This evening, I'm  working on reaching the Adept Magic Rank so I can visit the Magical HQ.

My house? From the front, it looks exactly like the original Cordelia's Secret Cottage.
But my house has a much smaller footprint (64 tiles vs the original's 84 tiles) and different décor.
The room layout (a somewhat modified version of the original) doesn't really work for me.
If only Watcher had the energy to build me a new house from scratch…
Watcher: Maybe before your next week. Warning: I don't really understand the cottage core aesthetic.!

Sorry about my tirade two weeks ago about gathering water at the river.
Cordelia Fall is two minutes from my home, so getting water is no chore at all.
Honestly, when I first checked that fishing sign, I didn't see a "Gather water" option.

Tamiyo: Congratz on winning the Oversized Crops Fair and your house expansion.
Naoki: Thanks, but I haven't had a chance to even sit in my remodeled house yet.
Tamiyo: You mean, you have zero Cooking skill?
Naoki: Yeah. Do I learn Cooking when you ask me to cook with you?
Tamiyo: I guess you'll find out next Sunday.

Tamiyo: So I'm visiting the Magical HQ tomorrow night. You want to come with?
Naoki: I've been there with you before, remember? But sure.
Tamiyo: Hey, promise you'll take me with you to The Desert when get the bus running?
Naoki: You bet. I'll try to rush that bundle to open the bus service in summer.

Monday
Monty (left): We're both friends of Tamiyo and we both help in her garden, right?
Hopper (right): Yes.  And your point is?
Monty: Why do you get the spiffy outfit while I have to sweat and toil in my birthday suit.
Hopper: I don't know.  Is today your birthday? And why are you asking me?
Go talk to Tamiyo or, even better, her Watcher!

Tamiyo: When I lived with my parents, I never thought much about being a spellcaster.
Naoki: Probably because you're not a born spellcaster. Your mother turned you when you were a young adult, right?
Tamiyo: Yes. And, lately, I find herbal magic and potions so fascinating.
Naoki: Does that mean you've learned the CopyPasto spell?
Tamiyo: Uh, yeah.

Before heading home, I make a trip to Casters' Alley for a wand and broom.
Sage Simeon taught me the Teleportate spell tonight.
(I'll have to see whether I prefer that to flying by broom. It's always nice to have options!)
Also, I buy various potion ingredients which I can't easily find in the HoB.

Tuesday
I take today off from school to learn flower arranging.
My first three creations are laughably lousy, but I list them on Plopsy anyway.

Last night, I felt a sudden urge to knit an outfit for Monty.
Now I can tell Monty apart from the wild rabbits.

By the way, have you seen Naoki's bunny in her yellow sundress and bonnet of daisies?
I need to visit the Creature Keeper to see what animal outfits he sells. My bunnies need headwear!

Flying by broom is gonna take practice.
I've been checking Sophie the Statue for foragables every day.
So far, I've gotten metals and a crystal, but no limestones.
I wonder if Watcher would let me duplicate Naoki's Vault bundle?
Or, once Naoki completes the Vault bundle, will the bus service be open to the public?

I spent over a grand yesterday, buying animal outfits from the Creature Keeper.
Here's my yet-unnamed black rooster wearing his new red fez.
Should I name all my primary roosters DrGluon?

Friday
Tamiyo: You've either phoned to ask me out or dropped in uninvited every day this week. Why?
Naoki: I must really want to spend time with you? Thanks for coming over to hang out.
Tamiyo: Well, I'd really like to see you new house, but your door's locked.
Naoki: Sorry!. Things got crazy last Saturday because I stayed in town late for the fair.
I was rushing to replant my garden and didn't want Patchy in the house.
You can't enter my house but you can see what its interior looks like, right?

Tamiyo: I can't believe our houses are 64 tiles each! Why does yours look so much bigger?
Naoki: Maybe because it's just one room? My house is actually smaller because of its 14-tile front porch

Saturday
Following the same routine each day, my entire week whizzes by in a blur.
Thursday, I painted my 5th masterpiece for Painter Extraordinaire and put away my easels for good.
Thanks to those medium Abstract paintings, my garden, and my crafts, I've made a killing this week.

My current earnings are $210,375.
At this rate, I'll finish my challenge before Naoki's even close to finishing his.

Well, sorry that my update is so boring.
I didn't think you'd want to see shots of me selling produce to the grocer or knitting.
And I was too excited to see the Creature Keeper's wares to photograph him!

But, here's a question for you:
Should I do something to make my challenge harder without squeezing out all the fun?
Delete 4 of my 8 Dragonfruit plants? Adopt a toddler?
Other ideas?
