Search Method Change
« on: January 08, 2011, 08:59:30 PM »
I've replaced the in-house search function with Google Search. This should provide better results. It searches the guide and forum simultaneously. This should help guests and members tracking down info. There will generally be a delay of a few days before a post is visible in google results, but search is generally going to be more helpful for finding older posts and deeper information.

I'm fond of the fact that guide results will be displayed alongside forum results. Often if you're doing a search you're trying to find some specific bit of information. There's a lot that is not on this forum simply because it's already present on the guide. Some guests have probably never heard of either of our two sites, and this will serve better to connect them.

Let me know your experience with this. However this change will probably stay as I was unable to get very good results from a search the way it was and it was already on the "best" setting

You'll find the guide and forum search are the same thing now. Results are dropped into a page that looks a bit more like the guide. Results used to look horrific. I'm glad I fixed that :D

I found the old search very frustrating and I love the new search. Tried it out last night and I love the fact it searches the forum. I found what I wanted very quickly.

Why is it when I put in "Cheez" it has an article about meditative trance? That doesn't make any sense in the slightest. I kinda like the old one, but this will do I suppose.

Well, I don't know why you would want to search for "cheez" on Carl's Sims 3 Guide and Forum, but the reason you got the Forum topic (not Guide article) about meditative trans sleep is because "cheez" was mentioned in the topic.  So, I'd say the new search method is working great.

Well then I have to agree, that is one fine an dandy search engine. BTW the reason I typed in "cheez" in there is because thats the first random thing that came to mind.
