GOOD NEWS, BAD NEWS

Dear Mum and Dad,
I have some good news and bad news -- but not really bad. The worst is that I'm going through a sad period where it seems like all my good friends are dying of old age. First I got a phone call about Simeon Silversweater and then one about Bjorn Bjergsen, and then one about...Let's just say I don't like answering the phone any more.
Anyway, one small bad news is that I discovered that even though I'd spearheaded the drive to make Sprucewood Square a marketplace, all the tables were spoken for when I arrived. In fact they were signed up for the next several months. I don't think it makes sense to have two candlemakers selling their wares, but be that as it may. Anyway, I was allowed to buy my own table and lug it over there -- not much interest in my wooden figures, though.

On the good side is the fact that I discovered that it's possible to repeal one NAP and vote for one during the same voting period provided that there are less than four NAPs active. This week I got rid of Water Conservation and voted in Greener Initiatives. So next week should see the end of my project.

I'm not sure what I'll do next. I want to reach the top of the Civil Designer career, but I've encountered a snag. Doing so well at work has made me a workaholic, and now I seem to get tense when I'm not at work.

Getting tense means that I can't use the fabricating machine (although after it ducked me in a vat of amber dye, I don't really miss that), but also I can't study fabrication. And I need to gain another level in order to get a promotion.

Last bit of bad news -- we have roaches. The flies were easy to clear out, but no matter how many times Bruce and I stomp on the roaches, they're still there. It would take a super hero to get rid of them.

Speaking of which, Bruce has been working on fitness. I ought to exercise more -- I'm sure you've noticed that I've put on a few pounds, but with a sedentary lifestyle, I'm mostly too tired at the end of the work day.

Anyway, Bruce has been making good progress at work. He took notes the first few times the Chief chewed him out, and learned from the experience.

These days he concentrates on getting witness reports and collecting evidence rather than admiring the dwellings of the rich and famous.

He's put 3 criminals behind bars -- the fan who stole Judith Ward's treadmill, a vandal, and an art thief who also stole from Judith Ward, but her paintings rather than personal possessions.

Bruce still enjoys fishing in his spare time. He could make more money from painting, but he says that fishing makes him calmer, and I guess that makes sense.

As for Dick -- he's an A student now, and we're proud of him. Bruce took him to the Festival of Youth over the weekend. Learning from his experience as a child, he was quick to give Dick the parental blessing. Bruce has taken him to volunteer at beach cleanup (which Dick loved), and a couple of other things. Dick is making progress as a Scout, too -- a Pegasus already!
We do miss you and hope that you are well. Love Linda, Bruce, and Dick
