Riverview's Opportunity School - A Short Challenge
« on: November 23, 2020, 10:48:21 PM »
Hi, I've been pretty busy lately and am just getting around to uploading this now. I'm just taking a short break from the other one for now. This will be a pretty short project. I saw Trip's thread and decided that I would take a shot at it. So far, the only real mistake I've made is forgetting that I had aging off for another game, lol  According to my post in Trip's thread, I did use the freebie wallpaper inside since the sims get a negative moodlet for an unfinished room. It's still very plain and drab looking though. Here is my founder, Vanessa Lombardi. She is in the Journalist career and one of the skills required for that is writing so she is writing and earning some extra money w/that. :)  She had a wish to learn writing and then to write a sci fi novel. Now that the sci fi novel is done, she is writing some sports books.

The first gen kids that she adopted

Nolan

Evita

Kenneth

and Valerie

I was surprised when Kenneth showed up w/the white hair. I have since cleared my game cache so we'll see if this pops up again.

Here is the school. Since the original thread specified "3 wings," I made 3 separate rooms for now. We'll see what happens as the money comes in.

The outside of it

The inside

I've started on the decorations part of it by putting some wall paper, windows and doors in. More pics coming soon. Oh yes, and Vanessa got 1 promotion so far.

Here is what I have so far in upgrades. So far, I'm just concentrating on making it look nicer and getting nicer stuff along w/more things for the kids to do. First here is the Front/Study Room

Then the Kitchen and Bathrooms

Last, the Bedrooms

Her writing the sports books really helps w/the money part. The girls also got the scavenger hunt thing. Valerie has completed that one for the gems and Evita has everything except the moth. I put the Prism Art Studio in and Vanessa took the gems and metal there to cut and smelt them. I do that b/c it gives just a bit more money that way and money is one thing they need, lol.

I had to laugh at one of the popups the Vanessa got for her job. Evidently, she had made a negative comment about a sim in an article and that sim was not pleased at all. My options were to either apologize which would be bad for the company, or ignore it and the sim would be furious w/her. I didn't want her to take a hit in job performance, so I chose "ignore." I almost rofled b/c that furious sim is a wild horse!!!!!! LOL

Here are the pics of the kids as teens now.

Evita - Excitable, Neurotic, Neat, and Easily Impressed

Valerie - Hot Headed, Party Animal, Heavy Sleeper, and Easily Impressed

Kenneth - Absent Minded, Evil, Grumpy, and Heavy Sleeper

and Nolan - Workaholic, Inappropriate, Heavy Sleeper, and Computer Whiz

I decided to pick this up again after a little bit of a hiatus from the sims and also exploring different types of games in the sims. The first thing I noticed after re-reading the rules, is that my founder is supposed to have 5 generations of kids raised from child to YA!!! I had the lifespan set to normal and it would be totally and completely impossible at that setting. So I increased the span to long and we'll see what happens. For a husband, I had her working up the elixir shop clerk guy since she is only allowed to marry npc's, but by the time she is allowed to marry (at the end of the 3rd generation of kids), he would be either very elderly or gone. Among the aliens that she knows, one of them is actually a YA so I'm having her work him up. They're pretty compatible traits wise. :) The only drawback is that he will be much younger than she will be b/c aliens pretty much do not age although, I can adjust that. Also, even though I set up the lifespan to long, I still kept the child and teen ages at the same setting as normal. Otherwise, it would take forever! My current set of kids are just about to their YA birthdays and will be kicked out and she will adopt 4 more kids. We'll see what happens. I'll post again when the current kids age up to YA in a couple of sim days and then when she gets 4 new kids.

I had to do the long lifespan too, with a few adjustments (kids and teens both get 14 days so I spend 4 weeks on each class + there's time to move them out and relax)

That's exactly what she's doing now. She wanted to travel so I took her to Egypt.

I played a bit last night and tonight. I took Vanessa to Egypt and then to China and now she has plenty of money to upgrade the house. :)  She adopted 4 more kids again, 2 girls and 2 boys. I named them May, Holly, Hamish, and Walton.

Walton

Hamish

Holly

May

Unfortunately, the boys got those dumb yellow eyes again. No white hair this time though. I took them to CAS and changed their eye color. Hamish has gray eyes and Walton dark green. Walton is a inappropriate frugal party animal, Hamish is clumsy, neat and can't stand art, Holly is an easily impressed neurotic perfectionist, and May is a neurotic diva who loves the outdoors.

I'm still working on this. So far for gen 2, I have 9 maxed skills between the 4 kids. This time around Vanessa was able to afford to get tablets for each of them plus all of the skill books. She's just a tiny bit away from maxing her career too. No more having to interview sims! I'm not sure what her next career will be if any. Since a couple of the kids maxed science, they have the science group project and I had her do a couple of white beams. That brought in a fair amount of money too. She also has the collection helper which allows me to get the gems and space rocks.

I hate to say this, but I ran into some major problems w/my game and I lost many saves. This is one of the saves that I lost. It doesn't matter what folder I put it in, it just will not load. In the game selection window, it is grayed out. I'm not a techie and so I have no idea what happened. One of these days, I might start again. I also lost my ISBI one. : /

Well, I *thought* this save and ISBI were gone b/c they were grayed out in the game selection window. Whenever I've encountered that before, it's always been a broken game. Thanks to Mrs Flynn though, she helped me get these games back up and running. :)Along the way, I've learned a couple of techie things I never knew before! I'm working on this one right now and the 2nd gen kids are teens now. They're about halfway to YA. After this batch she gets to get married. I have a nice YA alien lined up for her. He was actually a YA when he first came to visit her!! Once in a while I will get a YA alien.

I decided t o start this challenge over again b/c I was using the tablet to make the kids skill much faster. I found that it was incredibly easy to have them max every or almost every skill. It just felt way to cheaty b/c it wold give me a huge score advantage. I already made a new thread called "New Opportunity School." I'll continue to play her as a normal game though.
