Patches, which ones?
« on: December 14, 2009, 07:21:51 PM »
Hi, i was wondering about patches, i dont own the sims, im borrowing it from my friend (fingers crossed for christmas) and i dont use the Sims store, i dont download ANYTHING. But if i get it i want to know what to download.

Do i have to download multiple patches or the latest one? Do i have to download all of them? Are there any i should avoid? Do they add more stupid bugs and annoying things?

Any information is greatly aprecciated! I want to know everything so i dont do anything wrong, sorry if theres already a post about the same or similar topic.

Despite the fact that there are some unresolved issues I would always recommend a player use the latest patch. More than likely, you're getting some serious bug fixes, and possibly new content. To my knowledge nothing is going on now that is completely game breaking and horrendous. A few annoyances, yes. The latest patch is always going to include any prior patches, so you do not need to download multiple patches.

Yes we had a couple game-ending bugs that have been resolved. While people will complain about new problems introduced, Metro's pretty much right. We overall get more fixes than new problems when we patch so just keep your game up to date. When there's something really nuts that plenty complain about we can expect a hot fix. Everything should settle down later this month with their first big patch after the WA release.

IMHO if you are getting WA then you need the latest patch, if it is just vanilla Sims3 then you can get away with only patching to 1.4.? (I don't know what the rest of the numbers are).  I found all the patches available to download separately on Gamespot but other sites are also hosting them.  If you use the default Sims3 launcher it will try to update the latest patch although this feature can be turned off.

On the official forum lots of people have been complaining of unusable games, losing graphics in town and very long load times with the latest 1.6/1.7/2.2 patch.  Installing from new will probably mean that you don't have any of these problems but it is always useful to have a second option available.

Patch 1.6 added a load of features to the vanilla game that also appear in WA, patch 1.7/2.2 (2.2 is the number for the patch if WA is installed) fixed a major save game error code 16 fault.

Hope this helps

I feel that I need to add that to keep major problems under control don't add anything to your game that is 3rd party dl's.  But that's just my opinion...major meltdowns have occurred at sims 3 site cause ppl have added mods and dl's to their vanilla game and when dl'ing WA everything went bluey.

Just be careful what you put in your game and you should be ok.  ;)

I agree with bshag.  Third party downloads can really cause a lot of trouble.  They aren't worth it in my opinion.

Actually, the houses from the Exchange are mostly ok.  When I talk about third party downloads, I mean things that people make and put on their own websites for downloading.  There are a lot of steps involved to get your game files prepared to even accept and read the downloads.  It's things like special hair, clothes, cars, furniture.  If you're downloading from a third party website and changing your files to accomodate the mods, you're putting your game at risk.  Downloading houses from the Exchange on the official Sims 3 site isn't 100% safe, but you don't have to modify your game files or anything.  They go straight through the Sims 3 Launcher.
