Kahale SimTech Dynasty: High on High Tech (20 Sep)
« Reply #30 on: September 20, 2020, 11:43:36 PM »
5.1. We're High on High Tech

Week 11, Monday (3rd week of Autumn)

Mina: We have officially entered the High Tech Era!
It's a little past 1 am, but we all walk down to nearby Turtle Beach for a family portrait.

I'd been looking forward to watching my grandchildren grow.
Now that we're on Long Lifespan, though, they won't be teens for 5-6 more weeks!
Here we are in order of birth.
Tuki: 108-day-old Elder
Mina  94 days to Adult
Pele: 94 days to Adult
Aleki: 94 days to Adult
Avana: 93 days to Adult
Santos: 84 days to Adult
Okika: 29 days to Teen
Poke: 40 days to Teen

Returning home, Tuki switches his aspiration to Mansion Baron which instantly completes.
Next, we pack up our belongings and bulldoze our house in preparation for a new house.

Our new home is more or less built, but we still haven't decided how to use some of the rooms.
Since Tuki and Pele both love the outdoors, they share an open-air office in the back.

Here, Pele gains Programming skill for work, while Tuki tries out the new Fabricator.

It's fully light now, so here's a shot of the house from the front.
Pele and Aleki can't decide the location of their bedroom.
Which is better: the privacy of an upstairs bedroom or the convenience of a downstairs one?

By the time Pele gets back from work at 10 am, we've maxed all five skills.
Pele maxes two (Writing and Programming) and so do I (Piano and Mixology).
Tuki maxes Fabrication without a single mishap on the Fabricator.

To my surprise, I notice banners and balloons at the entrance to Turtle Beach.
How did we miss noticing that Mua Pel'am's environment has been completely restored?

We also never saw the notification about today's turtle hatching event!

Initially, Tuki planned to join the Conservationist career to continue Mua Pel'am's cleanup.
Since Mua Pel'am has been fully restored, he decides to join the Social Meida career instead.

Santos, stop beachcombing for seashells and appreciate…

The adorable baby turtles!

Back home, I throw a dinner party to complete my Master Chef aspiration.
Only one more Gourmet Dish to go!

After I complete our third aspiration, Leader of the Pack, we leave Sulani for the evening.
It's Bears' Night at the Shrieking Llama Bar tonight.
Pele is close to becoming a Musical Genius, a project he started during the More Tech Era.

Noticing that his dreads matched brother Makoa's this morning at the beach, Pele's switched to this hairstyle.

But, of course, it's easier for Pele to mentor music at home.
We're actually out and about so Tuki can clog 3 drains to become Chief of Mischief.
Tuki should have been done by now but he seems to have drawn a detractor.
Pele completes Musical Genius before Tuki finishes clogging his third and last drain.

Tuesday
The children have joined the Drama Club for something to do.
Poke gets promoted today while Okika does not. Does she practice less than Poke did?

In other news, Tuki and I earn promotions and branch to our respective careers.
Tuki's in Public Relations and I'm a Floral Designer.

Thursday
Pele works from 1 am to 10 am these days.
I don't mind that his schedule is opposite the rest of the houseold's.

But what's the point of the Oracle career if he works in his everyday outfit?
He's never once worn that outfit and it doesn't appear in our wardrobe, either.

Besides gardening and aromatherapy massage, there's not much for Avana and Santos to do.
So they've been assigned aspirations our Watcher hasn't completed yet.

Avana successfully shows off her sweater to brother-in-law Lewis for Lady of the Knits.
Meanwhile, Santos fabricates five Eco Upgrade Parts for Master Maker.

Friday
Pele, currently at Level 9, hacks his work performance tonight for a positive boost.
We're pretty sure he'll complete the Oracle career when he works next in two days.

Avana needs to teach another sim to knit for her Lady of the Knits aspiration.
Her niece Okika already maxed Knitting and her brother Santos declines.
But it looks like Avana's found a willing pupil after all.

Saturday
The whole family's been working so hard lately that we decide to take a break.
We travel to Willow Creek to dine on experimental food at Chez Llama.

We enjoy the cuisine but the restaurant's atmosphere doesn't suit us at all.
Maybe we could persuade our local restaurant to expand their dinner menu?

Week 12, Sunday
Santos has made lots of progress with his Master Maker aspiration.
Unfortunately, his freelance gigs never complete despite all the tasks being done.

We've already completed our 5 aspirations, but we're curious about the Master Maker's reward trait.
Maybe he can craft his 20 candles then switch to a different Freelance career.

At 10 am, Pele brings home his final promotion for the Oracle career.
On his very last day of work, he finally wears his career outfit!

As soon as he gets home, he immediately phones to join the Tech Guru career at Level 4.
Hmmph, he hasn't started his new career any higher than usual (see Note).

   5. TBD:

Watcher's Notes
*Day 1, High Tech Era: Completing five careers gave the Kahale household a lot of time to prepare for the High Tech Era.
When the new era began, the household had a head start on 4 of the skills and 3 of the aspirations.
Also, the High Tech Era began a little past 1 a.m., so its first day last 23 hours.

*Fame Perks: I've not played around much with Get Famous but wanted to test the Fame perks.
According the Level 4 Career Hopper perk: "When joining a new career, he'll be hired at a higher starting position."
But Pele has the Connections trait, so joining Tech Guru at Level 4 is no "higher position." Bah!

*The house: Here's a photo of the Kauai villa that served as the model for the Kahale home.

And here's the Kahales' High Tech home, much larger than necessary but still functional.
Actually, I'm finding that the larger the house, the more the sims drop their queues because I struggle to keep an eye on them all.

Thanks for reading!

Kahale SimTech Dynasty: Work, Work, Work (26 Sep)

5.2.  Work, Work, Work

Week 12, Sunday (4th week of Autumn)
Tuki: There's going to be very little to report this week, I imagine.
Mina, our son Pele, and I are working hard at earning promotions.

We're supported by Pele's spouse Aleki and Pele's younger siblings, Avana and Santos.
Okika and Poke (children of Pele and Aleki)-attend grade school and Drama Club.

Monday
I'm in the Public Relations career and it's my first ever desk job.
This will be my career until the end of our SimTech Dynasty challenge.
I'll be using my career's Represent perk to boost Pele and Mina's job performance.

We were all so sure that the kids would earn their final Drama Club promotion today.
But they return home today without a promotion. Why?

Reading the fine print, we discover that they can only earn that last promotion as Teens.
For Poke, that's nearly 5 weeks away!

That evening, I buy Arid Ridge in Oasis Springs as a restaurant lot.

We're not going to build or run a restaurant here.
It's just a means to spread our simoleons around.
We don't want our household funds to exceed $9.9 million.

Tuesday
Today, Aleki becomes a Bestselling Author and writes three Books of Life.
He then captures the epic sagas of Mina, me, and Pele.
.
Now, the three of us can Work Hard without worrying about low Fun.

After homework and daily tasks are done, we go out for dinner.
It's a lovely, balmy evening.

Everyone enjoys simply hanging out for a change.
We really need to go out more often.
We're simple folk; we're happy just to stay in Sulani.

Wednesday
First Okika and then Poke won't leave for school.
Nothing we can do can make them go.
Today, Poke wouldn't go to Drama Club, either.

We're not dealing with this for 3-5 more weeks, so we have both kids drop Drama Club.

My lovely Mina's in the doghouse today. Watcher's doghouse, that is.
As I was preparing to leave for work, Mina snuck over and serenaded me.
I went to work with a 5-hour Flirty mood. Watcher was NOT pleased.

My wife's also an extremely poor sport when it comes to Foosball.

Thursday
Today's Harvestfest.
After school and work, we all get dressed in our formal wear.

Mina prepares a Grand Meal, which we share in our formal dining room.
We'd never sat down together in that room before.

We finish off our evening by dancing at the Pier Perfection Sand Bar.
Everyone wants to celebrate one holiday weekly until the end of our challenge.
But will we finish in seven more weeks?

Friday
Mina and I return home at the same time with promotions.

Mina completes her Floral Designer career.
I need one more promotion to complete my Public Relations career.

That night, we visit San Myshuno for the first time to attend the Spice Festival.
We all try the Spice Champion contest, where Aleki emerges victorious.

Pele runs into his brother-in-law Lewis Bheeda who seems to be freezing to death.
So, Pele asks to see his Cold Weather outfit.
Surely, Pele just saved Lewis's life. See how his skin color returned to normal?
But Lewis doesn't seem grateful at all.

I need 10,000 followers for my last promotion.
By next Monday, I should be able to hustle up 491 more!

And yes, I'm wearing the sweater Mina knitted for me!

Saturday
Poor Okika and Poke have little to do these days.
Their father Aleki takes them volunteering at a soup kitchen.

I find Mina knitting in our private patio in front of our bedroom.
This morning, I reached 10k followers, so I join Mina.
We spend the afternoon chatting in our rocking chairs. What a pleasure.

Pele's the only one working today and he brings home yet another promotion.
He's now a Dot Com Pioneer (Level 9) in the Startup Entrepreneur career.

Well, time to get up out of this rocking chair.
It's time to go start a Representation campaign to give Pele's career a little boost.
Every little bit helps!

Only three more completed careers to finish this challenge!

   5. Next: TBD, Pele

Watcher's Notes
*Character Values: On Long lifespan, the child and teen stages are approx. 42 days each.
That leaves so many opportunities for chance cards that raise on character value at the expense of dropping another.
  It's a bit of a pain, honestly.

*Unlocking Towns: I really enjoy challenges where we have to work toward unlocks.
After the long ban on San Myshuno, the Kahales found the Spice Festival new and exciting.
  So did their Watcher.

*Career Promotions: Both Pele and Mina have advanced faster than Tuki, because Tuki is boosting their careers but nobody's boosting his.
Still, I'm surprised that Pele's already Level 9 in his second career.

I very much agree about the character value options -- while I've never played on Long, when I have a teenager ready to go with all their character values high, I always dread it a bit. My strategy is to pick to always lower responsibility or manners: they both more or less auto-restore themselves or take little work to adjust. Still a little annoying.

Kahale SimTech Dynasty: This Is the End, My Friend (27 Sep)

5.3.  This Is the End, My Friend

Week 13, Sunday (1st week of Winter)
Pele: Everybody's off today, so we visit various spots in Windenburg.
After they all head home, I decide to attend the Star Accolades Ceremony in Del Sol Valley.
I was a bit worried about not wearing a suit, but no one minds my traditional garb.

In fact, I won the Star Accolades Award for Best Song.
It's puzzling at first, since I have no Singing skill whatsoever.

Then, I realize the recognition is for my songwriting!

Monday
Today, I complete the Startup Entrepreneur career.
We've now completed three careers in this era.
Without missing a beat, I sign up for the Conservationist career.

Tuesday
Today, it's Papa's turn to complete his Public Relations career.
Unlike Mama, Papa's not going to quit his career.

He's gone ahead and bought the Professional Slacker reward trait.
He plans to work until I complete our fifth career: Conservationist.

Watcher's quite happy that we have only more career to complete.
She's built a hot tub area in the corner of our lot.
It's mainly for Papa and me to unwind after work.

Aleki's the one who fully upgraded it, so he can use it whenever he wants, too.

We thought my parents would never take the hint and get out of the hot tub!
Alone at last, Aleki!

Huh? Who? Our kids?
No worries. They're very busy at the moment!

What? No, of course it's not spoiling them to buy them each their own Voidcritter Battlestation.
Look how they're both training their own voidcritters right now.
They can't both train them at the same time on a single Battlestation.

Maybe we should remodel that empty room into a family recreation space.

Wednesday
I spend my day off befriending my co-workers.
People say that good work relationships are vital to career advancement.
But, really, how important are they?

Now that I'm a Conservationist, I suddenly want a scenic view while working.
Papa and I move our desks to the other side of our office.
It's no ocean vista, but still much nicer than facing a wall!

Friday
With my Level 7 promotion, I'm asked to choose a Conservationist branch.
My choice is Enronemtnal Manager, which is mostly a desk job.
It's winter, so I don't want to have to spend hours everyday in the ocean.

Well, well. I actually receive a career outfit for a change!
For my Tech Guru career, I always worked in my everyday outfit.

Saturday
We decide to combine a dinner party with the holiday we scheduled for today.
All our extended family, my co-workers, and the vampire Caleb come to party down.

I'm having such a great time that I nearly die of hysteria.
Fortunately, I get to a mirror in time to calm myself down.

Week 14, Monday
I feel like promotions are coming very slowly now.
Even Papa's Represent perk isn't boosting my work performance.
Today I reach Level 8.

As of today, Papa has lived 128 days. He has to live until I complete my career!

Tuesday
Tuki: I thought you'd be finished by now.
Pele: Yeah, so did I but your Represent campaigns don't work at all for the Conservationist career.

Tuki: And what's your level now?
Pele: I'm a Level 9 Conservationist. I'm looking to finish on Thursday, probably.

Wednesday
Pele: So why do you get the cool aloha shirt with multi-pocket vest while I get this ugly jacket?
Co-worker: What do you care? You'll earn your last promotion tomorrow then quit, anyway.
Pele: True dat.

Thursday
I wonder how my parents are spending this last day of our dynasty challenge…

I return home at 4pm with my final promotion, as planned.
And this means we have completed every requirement for our SimTech Dynasty Challenge.

The rest of the family is waiting for me to change so we can take a family portrait.
Ta da!

And this completes the Kahale SimTech Dynasty Challenge!

   5. Day 96: Conservationist/Environmental Mgr, Pele

Watcher's Notes

*Public Relations/Represent: That perk doesn't affect the Conservationist career at all.
I choose Conservationist because this dynasty is set in Sulani, but it was the slowest choice.

*Birthday notice: One of the kids got the "Almost birthday" notice.
On Long lifespan, that notice arrives 8 days earlier, rather than two days. Dang!

*Length: This was a failed speed run due to timing-related mistakes with Outdoor Enthusiast,
the Conservationist career, and one other thing that I've already forgotten.
Still, I'm happy to have finished it in 14 weeks and 5 days (2 weeks and 2 days less than a year).
 And with both founders!

Thanks for reading! Despite several mistakes, this challenge was a blast!
You should definitely try it for yourself, too! :)
