3.1.  An Emerging Community (Mid Tech Era)

Week 4, Sunday (Spring)

Tuki: As you know, we recently left the Low Tech Era and much has happened since then.
So, before we return to the Kahale household, let's look at what's happening in our world.
By the way, our Watcher will be adding some commentary in parentheses.


Do you remember that local shamans transformed our former home into the Shrine of Sulani?
The shrine's energy and the shamans' spiritual faith have drawn new settlers to our islands.

The shamans urge me to take the initiative in building a Festival Plaza.
The new settlers and the shamans' followers also lend their labor to this project.
Here, we can come together to celebrate seasonal festivals and events.


Since the Festival Plaza's in Ohan'ali, Mina and I decide to leave Lani St. Taz.
Everyone's urging the two of us to take a leading role in our budding community.
For this reason, we feel it's important to live near the Festival Plaza.
I know the whole family will miss falling asleep to the sound of waves.

(This build is a cheap knock-off of the original Chieftain's Villa but for 8 sims).


The shamans look after our spiritual well-being.
Meanwhile, here at Key Point Wellness, we can cultivate fitness and wellness.

To promote island arts and crafts, we've also built the Caldera Museum of Art.

(My 3-room rectangular build to satisfy the basic requirements of a museum lot.)


A new settler asks for help to build a restaurant on Sand Simoleon Beach.
As we enter the Mid Tech Era, all of us are pretty much living from hand to mouth.
Our living standards will surely improve, though, so we optimistically pitch in to build a restaurant.

We've been hard at work these days, gathering resources for various building projects.
Of course, we're also working together to build homes for new settlers.

An enterprising settler has noticed our efforts and built a community watering hole.
Bottoms up!

Looking downhill from my backyard, I can gaze out over Ohan'ali Village.
When Mina and I first arrived at these islands, we were the only inhabitants.
How satisfying to see an emerging community of gentle, like-minded folks.


But Sulani isn't the only place that's evolving.
This is only hearsay, but travelers say Granite Falls has changed considerably, too.

Granite Falls was formerly a wilderness, besides the Ranger's Station and Hermit's Hut.
Now its largest area offers three grades of campsites.
First, there's the low-end "Bring Your Own Tents" campsite.

(The default "Campground" lot which I'd bulldozed for the Low Tech Era.)


There are two mid-range campsites that offer more convenience and diversion.
Both campsites remain rather affordable for the budget traveler.

The last two campsites represent Renaissance glamping at its finest.

Today, three of our children attend school for the very first time.
And I need to pay Key Point Wellness a quick visit before they leave for school!

Oh you noticed? Yes, we each have seven different outfits now.
No more nearly freezing to death in Granite Falls, we hope!



Rebuilding the Simverse

This process was much more time-consuming than I'd anticipated.

Sulani
I added back all of the default Sulani residential lots then placed three Maxis-made lots (Sand Bar, Oasis Springs gym, and Shimizu resturant).
Then, I edited all the lots to remove or replace anachronistic appliances or furnishings.
I built an extremely basic museum from scratch.

Windenburg
In this town, I only removed the jukebox and TV from the two bars.
I ignored Windenburg's gym, pool, library, nightclubs, and cafes because my sims won't be visiting them in the Mid Tech Era.
As for the gym, I decided to edit the Oasis Spring gym for Sulani because that seemed faster than editing the Windenburg gym for Mid Tech.

3.2.  Midlife Crisis (Mid Tech Era)

Tuki: Well, we've survived all of the construction and remodeling of Sulani!
At present, we Kahales are a family of seven with a little one on the way.


In the Mid Tech Era, our lifespan has increased from Short to Normal.
Here's our current ages, with the difference from Short lifespan in parentheses.
Founders

2nd Generation

Week 4, Sunday (Spring)
Tuki: You're probably thinking I chose the Bodybuilder aspiration to prove something.
Sure, I'm definitely an old geezer with a very young and beautiful wife.

Still, I do believe my choice is a sound one.
With maxed Fitness and Wellness, I'm already near my maximum body potential!
Also, the Long-Lived trait would give me more time with my family.


Tuesday
Except for once when I pulled a muscle, Bodybuilder was a breeze!
After less than an hour of an epic workout, I reach my maximum body potential.


Our trash bin's still causing trouble.
But now we don't live on a Reduce & Recycle lot, so we can't empty the trash bin.
Every few days, we have to sell off the overly full trash bin and buy a new one.


Wednesday
Mina can't make any progress on her Outdoor Enthusiast aspiration until summer.
In the meantime, she starts learning flower arrangement.


Maxing the Parenting skill is easy with so many children!
Possibly, I'll become a Super Parent on Makoa's young adult birthday in two days.


Makoa complains that he's tired of asking everyone about their negative moods.
Pull it together, son!
You're close to earning the Compassionate trait!


Thursday
Our youngest daughter has been a toddler for a few days now.
She was born not long after the death of our first daughter Ava.
We've honored the memory of Ava by naming this little girl Avana.


Mila ages up to a teen this afternoon. Such a beautiful girl!
She tries doing her hair like Ava did and the hairstyle really suits her.
Call us sentimental, but Mina and I don't mind that Mila looks so much like Ana!


In the early evening, I age up to an elder.
I don't have the Active trait, so I wonder how much time I have left.
The Long-Lived trait should give an extra 10 days or so, right?


Soon after, we make a quick trip to Granite Falls.
My goal is to learn how to craft the camping mascot sculpture.
Mina befriends the hermit to save a little time once summer arrives.


The final stage of Outdoor Enthusiast requires Mina to collect 15 insects.
We hope that's a cumulative count like with fish for Angling Ace.
Or does she need to reach the final milestone to start counting insects caught?


Strangely, Latifah notices two Hermits living in the Deep Forest.
Mina remembers having befriended the male Hermit during our last visit here.
What's going on?


Friday
Today Makoa becomes a young adult and, with his help, I become a Super Parent.
Since I've chosen Big Happy Family next, I need him to get married then bear four offspring!

First, he invites over Nani Kealoha.
One would never guess that she's the child of two attractive sims: Makoa and Lillian Kealoha!


Mina discreetly looks busy, sitting outside the door to Makoa's bedroom.
A good spot for checking out our son's choice in ladies!


Nani Kealoha, Olivia Spencer-Kim-Lewis, then Evie Delgato.
As soon as one shows signs of nausea, Makoa moves on to the next one.


Just between you and me, Makoa seems to like Evie the best.
But he marries Nani Kealoha because we are friends with her family.

Will three baby mamas be enough?
Makoa has the Fertile trait but I need four grandchildren.


Week 5, Sunday
Mina is really a fan of that rocking chair!
Let's go, Mina!  Summer has arrived!

*Glitched Trash Bin: This a known bug. I did google around but found no workarounds besides deleting and replacing the offending trash bin.

*Children: There are no grade-school or high-school teens in our simverse, except in our household. Why aren't households with small children moving in?
I guess my sims need to go hang out at parks on weekends.
Also, I should set one community lot to Teen Neighborhood, I guess.
Currently, about 80% of my simverse population consists of elders. Ugh!

It starts counting your bugs captured after you get to the 4th stage.  But I discovered you can pull the bugs out of your inventory and put them back in, and it will count them.  You can continue sleeping in a tent after you've come home, and that counts too.

I could swear that insects caught were counted retroactively in one save years ago, but not the last couple of times I finished Outdoor Retreat.

Removing and adding back items to a sim's inventory is fine for casual games, but it's a rule violation for this forum's tournament and dynasty challenges.
At least my sim will have 5 days to collect 15 insects. Mixed blessing.

I've completed the Sleep 5 nights in a tent for at least 3 different challenges. It's been a slog every time.
Once I tried to complete the goal with a sim who had the Never Weary trait, LOL. Had to redo Outdoor Enthusiast with a different sim.

oshizu is correct. In official dynasty's and challenges that are for HOF or tournaments, they have to be found, not completing the goal in the manner you have shown. That would just be way to easy.

Outdoor Enthusiast took forever!
In spring, around 24 hours for the 4 spring herbs at Campground, then a week waiting for summer to arrive. Terrible timing on my part!
In summer, 3 days for the remaining 6 herbs at two places followed by the 5 tent nights.
(You were right, though. The insects took less than a day!)
Looking back, I should have just bit the bullet and let mother Mina do Serial Romantic, lol.

3.3.  A PeniTENT Camper (Mid Tech Era)


Week 5, Sunday (Summer)
Tuki: Dismal weather greets us on our arrival at a mid-range campsite in Granite Falls.
Sadly, nowhere in the Campground area offers shelter from the rain.

A young lady strolls by and Makoa rushes off to chat her up.
But after becoming good friends with her, he gets distracted by something else and she leaves.
Focus, Makoa, focus!


What a relief when the rain lets up in the evening!
By the way, our second son Pele started grade school last week.
So far, Pele's  our only child who shares my darker skin tone.


Monday
The Campground area finally offers four different herbs for harvesting!
Once Mina picks them all, we travel to the National Park that same morning.

Have you met our youngest child, Santos?
Mina says that none of our kids resemble her, but perhaps Santos will.


We've allowed our children the freedom to do most anything they want.
They just need to stay on top of their homework and help with cleaning.

As a result, Mila can only learn two non-childhood skills: Violin and Singing.
Pele the Pineapple Bear can learn Logic, Charisma, and Violin.


Makoa spots his good friend again in the National Forest.
The rest of us have yet to meet her, but Makoa tells me her name's Alex Moyer.


Poor Mina!
She spends her whole time impatiently waiting for unidentified herbs to blossom!
Today, she's found over a dozen insects!
Let's hope her luck holds up tomorrow when she reaches the "Collect 15 insects" goal.


Honestly, Makoa has had the best time during this trip to Granite Falls.
He tries for baby with Alex four times!  That rascal!
And he has the gall to blame me and my aspiration for his shenanigans.
What can I say?


Okay, I take that back about Makoa having the best time here!
Santos and I have enjoyed spending so much time together.
With little else to do, I can give Santos my undivided attention.


Tuesday
After picking and identifying the last two herbs, Mina maxes our fifth skill.


With only two more insects to collect, Mina informs me she's going alone to the Deep Forest.
While we're chatting, who should stroll by but Baby Mama #4!
Looking good, Alex Moyer!


We arrive back at our home sweet home in the evening.
We got Mila's second birthday notice earlier today, so we celebrate her teen birthday.

When we check toddler Avana, we realize that we'd missed both her birthday notices.
Happy birthday to you both, girls!
So now Mila starts high school and Avana starts grade school.


We prepare an enclosed area with locked gate for Mina's tent.
We don't want toddler Santos or other family entering the tent and waking Mina.


Wednesday
Makoa received a carrier pigeon from Nani yesterday and another tonight from Olivia.
Makoa's now the father of two girls: Hana Kealoha and Yang Spencer-Kim.

Several hours later, he also gets a message from Evie Delgato.
It's a boy! She named their son Jerry.
(Huh! So much for Makoa's Fertile trait!)


Thursday
Makoa: It's so peaceful here after all the kids leave for school.
Tuki: You know you can't move out until I have four grandkids, don't you?

Makoa: Well, Alex Moyer did look pregnant on Tuesday evening. *counts his fingers
Tuki: You're right, son. We'll just wait on Alex until Friday.


Friday
Tuki: This evening has been so eventful!
First, Makoa gets a carrier pigeon from Alex, saying she's had a baby girl.
With that, I complete Big Happy Family.

Next, I switch to Fabulously Wealthy and immediately complete it.
Yes, I've been selling my camping mascots, the household's paintings, and our garden produce for a while now.


Just then, we notice that Nani Kealoha and her father have arrived, bearing gifts of food.
It's as if she knows that our Makoa is moving out tonight.

It's getting late and Mina needs to go to her tent and sleep.
Go on, son, ask Nani' if you can move in with her!


Saturday
Besides our neighborhood, our poor kids never go anywhere except Granite Falls.
So today, we go on an outing to a beachside park on Lani St. Taz.


Our youngest child, Santos, aged up from a toddler this morning.
Mina's delighted that he seems to look so much like her.

Well, so did Mila as a child but teen Mila not so much.
Anyway, all my boys are heartthrobs. Just genetics, I guess. *coughs


Today's best news, though, is that our kids meet other children their age.
Four or five children have shown up. Oddly, they're all boys.


We stay at the park until nightfall.
Time enough for our three kids to make three friends each.

Also time enough for Mina to wear herself out swimming around in the ocean.
She sleeps best if she's tired when entering the tent.



Week 6, Sunday
Mina wakes up refreshed from her fifth night of sleeping in a tent.
With Outdoor Enthusiast done, we've completed all requirements for the Mid Tech Era
Gather in the dining room, everyone!
We need to discuss the upcoming More Tech Era.


I guess our two biggest decisions are location and family.

  When I started this challenge, I hadn't anticipated that he would last so long.

4.1  We're Fangtastic, and You? (More Tech Era)


.Week 6, Sunday (2nd week of Summer)
Tuki: Today, we enter the More Tech Era.
Since our oldest child Makoa moved out, we've become a family of seven sims. Here we are.
Tuki: 73-day-old Elder
Mina  6 days to Adult
Mila: 4 days to Young Adult
Latifah: 9 days to Young Adult
Pele: 1 day to Teen
Avana: 9 days to Teen
Santos: 13 days to Teen


Tuki: So much has happened since the end of the Mid Tech Era.
Strangers "discovered" Sulani with their missionaries who drove away our shamans.
And then, a missionary family's relative replaced our Shrine of Sulani with a sugarcane plantation.

After the plantation's bankruptcy, its manager (a family friend) sold us his manor.


Up to now, our family's never ventured beyond Sulani and Granite Falls.
Everything we've wanted or needed, we could find in Sulani.
But today, we travel to Forgotten Hollow to seek a solution for my old age.


Today, I join the Athlete career with plans to enter the Bodybuilder branch later.
I overexerted myself this afternoon, while completing my "Work out" daily task.
But I'll be fine. After my next promotion, I'll have a new daily task: Mentor Fitness.


Mina's torn between the Painter and Culinary careers, but she chooses Painter first.
Her rationale? Painter Extraordinaire goes faster than the Master Chef aspiration.
Mina's second career will no doubt be Chef.


Monday
Our second son, Pele, celebrates his teen birthday just after midnight.
Handsome devil, isn't he?
I'm going start grooming him to become The Man of the House for when I'm gone.


Tuesday
Vlad had phoned to say my transformation to a vampire would take 2 days.
But I transform in the middle of the night, after about 36 hours.
And just in time, too. My age bar's completely full and sparkling!
Huh, I guess becoming a vampire doesn't reset an elder's lifespan to Day 1.


Olivia Spencer-Kim's been hanging around outside for hours this morning.
I invite her inside for a glass of tea and help myself to a drink as well.
Should I make a separate club for feeding? If only plasma packs were more filling!


Wednesday
Off to my first day of work!  My umbrella works as intended.


In Low Tech, we only reached Stage 1 of Mua Pel'am's environmental restoration.
I've tasked teen Latifah and little Avana to help with cleanup whenever they're free.

For some reason, none of us can get rid of these three spots of pollution.


Mentoring Fitness with my Patriarch trait has its merits and demerits.
On the plus side, my kids gain Fitness super quickly.
On the downside, both Pele and Latifah maxed Fitness after only two sessions.
Good thing I have more family to mentor, eh?


Friday
After dark, we head to Selvadorada for the first of many over-night trips.
Pele has been quite fascinated by Archaeology lately.
He asks if he can become an Archaeology Scholar and rename himself Indiana.
I tell him yes for the first question but the renaming is a definite NO.


Saturday
My wife Mina has been moping around for the past two days.
It seems as if many of our friends in Sulani are passing away around the same time.

As a result, our whole household is feeling Very Sad these days.
We console each other and suffer through our grief together.


Our youngest daughter Avana spends most of her free time on beach cleanup.
And her efforts have produced great results.
Mua Pel'am has reached Stage 2 of its environmental restoration.



Week 7, Sunday
Late that night, Mina maxes the Selvadoradian Culture skill.
She explains that gaining access to the vendors' secret explorer wares can be extremely helpful.
In fact, such wares are excellent for the Jungle Explorer (but not the Archaeology Scholar).

We only take overnight trips because, naturally, Mina and I don't want to miss any work days.


Monday
My good friend, Caleb Vatore, has been such a great sport.
He's come along on each of our overnighters to Selvadorada.
Whenever the opportunity arises, Caleb gives me vampire training.
Thanks largely to that, I become a Master Vampire and complete my aspiration.


While waiting for nightfall at home, I mix the Ultimate Vampire Cure "for everyone."
Strangely, I mix eight drinks although only six of the eight sims present are vampires.
That's Mina and I, our three oldest children (Mila, Latifah, and Pele), and Caleb.


Tuesday
We celebrate double birthdays this morning. First, Latifah ages up to a young adult.
She asks to be cured of vampirism and to move uphill from us to Camp Caldera.

Avana is now a gorgeous teen. Who do you think she resembles more? Mina or me?


Back home, We make a quick stop so Latifah can move out, then we're off to the library.
To become a full-fledged Archaeology Scholar, Pele needs to write a book about it on a library typewriter.

And now that we've become a six-sim household, Mila makes her move.
She invites along Lewis Bheeda. He's one of a few young adults around and has nice traits.


Pele's book takes much longer to write than any of us expected.
By the time he finishes writing the last page, he's reached Level 7 Writing!

Mina breathes a sigh of relief! She has her heart set on Knitting as our fifth skill.


Just look at Mila and Lewis carrying on in public!
She shamelessly gives him a First Smooch right in front of everyone.
As her father, I'm not sure I approve of his red glasses and lime-green studs.


Wednesday
The next day, the two of them are still at it but in the privacy of her room.

I'm happy to report that Lewis agrees to make an honest woman of my daughter.
Good thing, too, since she tells me she's already eating for two!


Lewis is an Outgoing Bro, a Maker, and a Freelance Writer.
Mila is a Creative, Family-Oriented Perfectionist who stays at home.
And she's delighted to learn that Lewis aspires to become Lord of the Knits.
Wouldn't you agree that they are a perfect match?


Friday
Mina and Lewis are rivals in a race to max Knitting first.
Mina mutters how unfair it is that she works while he can stay home all day and knit.

They are neck and neck, with Mina only one Knitting level ahead of Lewis!
Oh, the suspense! (Hey, it's high time Lewis got a make-over, no?)


Unbeknownst to Mina and Lewis, I am working on Mischief in another room of the house.
And that, folks, is our fifth skill for the More Tech Era.

Mina and I really need to be better prepared for our work shifts.
Including days off, we're taking two to three days for each promotion. Ugh!

  Thanks to Tuki's Patriarch trait, Pele learns skills faster than his father, anyway.

*Eco Footprint: I started this dynasty with the Eco Footprint gameplay disabled.
  However, my sims recently got a message that their footprint turned Neutral.
  In two days, all of their magnificent plants have devolved to Nice. Grrrr.
  So I went around and removed Eco Living lot traits from every Evergreen Harbor lot.  Arrrrgghh!
 
*Lord of the Knits: Lewis won't be able to complete this aspiration in the More Tech Era.
 It requires selling items on Plopsy, but computers aren't allowed until the High Tech Era.
 I don't mind.  Mina and Lewis are my first sims who knit.

Kahale Homes through the Ages

Initially, I had posted here screenshots of the Kahale home during the current period, the More Tech Era.
I've enjoyed browsing photos on the Web of Polynesian, especially Hawaii'an, homes over the years, which has made the building process more fun.
So I've created a separate post with all the Kahale homes by era.

4.2.  Pele's Passion (More Tech Era)


Week 7, Friday (3rd Week of Summer)
Pele: Papa says I can narrate this time, since he needs to hunker down on work.
Recently, sister Latifah moved out to nearby Camp Caldera.
Then, Mila married Lewis Bheeda who moved in
As soon as Mila learns she's eating for two, she drinks a vampire cure.


Lewis gets his makeover at last, choosing the same hairstyle as his father Arjun.
He and Mila both look forward to becoming parents.
Though he's a Freelance Writer, we can't have a typewriter at home.
And we can't constantly stay at the library, so he's basically unemployed.


Brother-in-law Lewis may be jobless, but he does keep busy.
You're NOT gonna believe what he knitted for our house.
It's a cozy new mailbox in matching colors.


Since Mila is also jobless, they've started learning Wellness.
Papa wants them to learn how to give aromatherapy massages.

But it's only a temporary arrangement.
I'd like to get married and have a child or two of my own, too!


In case you've been wondering, only my parents and I are still vampires.
We're "good vampires," not bothering to seek out sims to drink their plasma.
We make do with plasma packs and we have plenty.


My younger siblings Avana and Santos have been fishing up a storm.
We never have to look for or breed frogs for plasma packs!


For the Night on the Town holiday, we go out to celebrate Santos' birthday.
We've never dined out before except for…Does camping count?

Now, Santos is not only Good but also a Bro.


We need to go out more often!
I "Detect Personality" and "Cause Hallucinations" on the many diners here.

Papa is already a Master Vampire with full sunlight resistance.
But, as Prime Vampires, Mama and I have one more rank to go.
Full sunlight resistance would make daytime so much easier!


Saturday
Today's my first day of work in the Manual Labor job.
This is also my last weekend before my young adult birthday.

I ask Mila for a pre-work aromatherapy massage.


The youngest Kahale, Santos, learns how to garden.
It's something every junior member of the household learns to do.


In the evening, I summon elementals for the first time.
Three young adults arrive: Fetia (female) along with Rua and Aleki (both male).

Though I befriend the Unflirty, Self-Absorbed Fetia, I really prefer Aleki.
But could Aleki and I have kids?  Papa, it's time for that woohoo talk!



Week 8, Sunday
Neither Mama nor Lewis can resume knitting their baby onesie projects.
After a frustrated morning, our Watcher finally resorts to research (Google).

Apparently, a sim can resume a knitting project while seated on a double bed or toilet.
Yeah, sure. Like we would have figured that out ourselves! *rolls eyes


Avana says that there's almost no remaining cleanup to do in Mua Pel'am lately.
She does manage to confront a tourist for littering!


This afternoon, I earn the final promotion for the Manual Labor job.
I'm so close to becoming a Renaissance Sim now!


Monday
In the early morning, we celebrate my birthday at a bar in Lani St. Taz.
After I blow out my candles, I join the Gardener career.
Bam!  I complete our fourth, unique aspiration.


Papa gives me the birds and bees talk with a focus on island elementals.
So, yes, I could marry Aleki and we could have children together!

Papa's asked Mila and Lewis to move out this afternoon.
Lewis is all right, but Mila is constantly offering Caleb massages!


Aleki Vainu'upo hangs around for hours after the other two elementals leave.
I can't wait to ask him to move in so I can propose!

Did I tell you that we share two traits?
I'm a child of the islands and an outdoor-loving genius.
Aleki is romantic and an outdoor-loving genius.


Oh no! Later that evening, Aleki phones to invite me out on a date!
I'd love to go but Mila and Lewis haven't moved out yet.

Papa got greedy about his Mentor Fitness task.
He asks them to move out after he mentors Lewis. Sheesh!


As soon as they've moved, I summon the elementals again.
I immediately cancel the event to ask Aleki to move in.
After a brief engagement, we elope right away.
He's one handsome sim who aspires to become an Angling Ace. He's perfection!


When he asks me to Try for Baby, I figure we'll dash over to my double bed.
Nope! I follow him as he runs past the house to the waterfall.
Just…wow!

Aleki later tells me he's eating for two, but I hope he's eating for three!


Tuesday
After I leave for work, Papa and Aleki go the beach where they run into Latifah.
Aleki's shocked and confronts my sister for her anti-environmental wrongdoings.

Latifah responds to Aleki quite rudely, I hear, but doesn't talk back to Papa.


After Latifah stomps off in a huff, Aleki and Papa return to their original plan.
Aleki learns to fish with Papa as his mentor.

Have you noticed Papa's hair is no longer grey?
He finally heeded my advice and dyed it. Looks great, right?


Wednesday
Today is a most glorious day!
First, Papa earns his last Bodybuilder promotion then switches careers.
He's joined the Criminal career with an eye on the Boss branch.

While doing his daily Mischief task, he gives a smackdown to a  nearby litterbug.


Mama also completes her Master of the Real career this afternoon.
Next, she joins the Culinary career to become a Chef.


And me? I'm a blissed out newlywed, expecting father, and Level 6 Botanist .
And by evening, Mama and I gain full sunlight resistance as Master Vampires.
No more staying indoors or fearfully carrying umbrellas in the daytime!

*Massage tables: I figure massage tables are fine in the More Tech Era.
  The ancient Greeks and Romans used tables of marble or wood to give massages.

*Lewis Bheeda: In total, Lewis only lived with the Kahales for a week.
  They probably only gave a total of 4 pre-work massages (Caleb doesn't count).
  Since Pele's the one helping with requirements, he deserves a family more.
  I'm sure Mila and Lewis will lead very happy lives elsewhere in Sulani.

*Knitting: Mina already maxed Knitting without waiting for the High Tech Era.
  She knitted a baby onesie and gifted it to Pele since she couldn't Add to Wardrobe.
  She could Add to Wardrobe, however, the toddler onesie she knitted next.
  How unfortunate that sims can't resume their knitting projects in a rocking chair or other chair.

*Aleki Vainu'upo: I've never "encountered" an elemental so willing to hang around.
  I've never had an elemental invite a sim out on a date, either.
  It just goes to show, I guess, what a compatible match he and Pele make.
  On second thought, good thing Pele declined the date. Nightclubs aren't allowed until the High Tech Era. (Outside Sulani, I avoid banned venues rather than delete them all.)

*Lot traits: In retrospect, Good Schools is not essential since we're on Normal lifespan.

4.3.  Aleki's Affection (More Tech Era)


.Week 8, Thursday (4th week of Summer)

Hey, I'm Aleki. I'm a former island elemental and now the spouse of Pele Kahale.
Since I'm the stay-at-home household member, Pele's persuaded me to narrate an update.

Can I say I love having a corporeal body and being part of a family?
And, by the way, my in-laws want me to call them Papa and Mama, like their children do.


I've grown huge in my third trimester!
My back is killing me and I miss seeing my feet.


Pele gives me two consecutive fertility massages.
He really wants twins, but I'm not fussed.
If we have one child, we can just have another one.


I give birth to a girl and we name her Okika, which means orchid.
How cute she looks the pink-and-white onesie knitted by her gramdma!


Friday
While Pele works and his siblings attend school, Mama Mina knits.
Peeking out the window, I see that Papa  has invited someone over to play chess.
Why is the chess table in an enclosed area?

It almost looks as if that lady is going up in flames. Could she be a vampire!?


See, Papa needed to witness a death for his Public Enemy aspiration.
Call me heartless, but I'm relieved Papa chose to lure a vampire to a fiery death.
What if he'd told my Pele to woohoo an elder to death?
I'm proud of Papa for not involving any of his children to complete that goal.


Saturday
Mama looks so lovely and refreshed as she heads out to work as a chef.
Or so we thought.
Two hours later, her restaurant calls to ask why she hasn't shown up yet.
We find her out back, chatting with Patchy. What the heck?


The power of Heavy Metal and a Big Happy Family!
Avana maxed out her knitting skill in a single day!
I'm a bit envious at how quickly Pele and his siblings learn skills.


What a pleasant way to spend the afternoon.
I play chess while listening to alternative music and Pele mentors me.

Island elementals randomly visit the homes of whoever summons them.
It's a delightful change to stay in one place as part of a loving family.


All the Kahales have been welcoming and supportive.
Hearing that Pele and I are hoping for a boy, Mama gifts me a green baby onesie.

I've never known my parents so I love that Pele's parents treat me like a son.



Week 8, Sunday (1st week of  Fall)
Today, both Papa and Mama earn their Level 6 promotions.
Papa joins the Boss branch, while Mama becomes a Chef.
Unlike Pele, they only work half the week now so promotions might get harder.

And me, my only mission is to raise both our kids into top-notch toddlers.


Papa Tuki and Pele are beyond thrilled when Okika ages up into a redheaded toddler.
She is also a born vampire and I wonder how early she can be cured. As a teen, I suspect.


Here's Okika again in her everyday and sleepwear outfits.
I believe Mama Mina knitted that pink elephant onesie.
Between Mama and Avana, they've knitted all the baby and toddler onesies.


Monday
This morning, I give birth to a little boy. We name him Poke, which rhymes with crochet.
Well, yes, it also rhymes with Pokemon, but the meaning's different.

The Japanese word Pokemon is short for Poketto Monsta (Pocket Monsters).
In Sulani, Poke Bowl is a traditional dish made of diced raw fish.


Tuesday
As soon as Pele comes home from work, we head for Selvadorada.
It's my first visit and I absolutely adore the scenery, even if we stay at our rental the whole time.

Pele's been brainstorming how to earn fame without painting, since he's a genius.
Lecturing everyone on archaeology all the time's a bit obnoxious.
So, Santos will help Pele authenticate artifacts for Pele to donate to museums. That will work!


Wednesday
Poke ages up this morning.
As you can see, I'm batting two for two with redheads!
Is it just my imagination or does Poke look like me a little?


Thursday
Surely, Pele will be able to complete his Botanist career by tomorrow evening.
It was going so well then, at Level 9, he suddenly has to wear pink stiletto pumps.
Why!?


This past week, we've been taking turns getting sick.
So far, orange juice from the fridge never fails to make us feel better.

Santos feels dizzy and his skin breaks out in red spirals.
A glass of OJ and an hour later, Santos is the picture of health.


Nobody's surprised when Pele comes home today with his final promotion.
Before he left for work, though, we didn't want to say anything to jinx him.


I have no memory of ever having been raised in a family.
My only memories consist of being summoned along with other elementals.

For this reason, I've been secretly worried about bringing up Okika and Poke.
But they'll be fine. They'll definitely become top-notch toddlers.


Because this is a household where everyone generously helps each other.
Nobody ever says, "That's not my responsibility."

Within this warm, tight-knit family, I'm learning how to raise Okika and Poke.


Ours is a busy life but one filled with peace and laughter.
Every day, I thank the fates that Pele chose me!

Incidentally, we're one aspiration and six career promotions away from the High Tech Era!!!

Illness: Up to More Tech, the Kahales cannot buy medicine because they lack computers.
They can buy a tea infuser in More Tech, though, to drink green tea..
So far, they haven't had to buy one, since drinking orange juice has worked just fine.
Luckily, none of the Kahales fell ill during the No Tech and Low Tech Eras.

Though electricity is available in this era, this family prefers candlelight.
They are using electricity-powered fridge, oven, and gramophones.

Power-efficient plumbing/appliances: I wish they could do upgrades.
But they can't buy upgrade parts and only get them from fishing or salvaging for parts.
They could visit Desert Bloom Park with the toddlers to check dig sites.
But first, they need to focus on career promotions.

4.4.  We Can Work It Out (More Tech Era)


.Week 9, Friday (1st week of Autumn)

Tuki: Our household now consists of three generations!


Of course, Makoa gave me four grandkids during the Mid-Tech Era.
But they were all born outside of our home.

Time passes so quickly. Now Makoa is an adult and his children are already teenagers.


My wife Mina really needs to be more diligent about arriving to work on time.
Tonight, she finally catches up to me and brings home her Level 7 promotion.
Three promotions over 10 days is not commendable.

Also, how can she "maintain high relationship with her co-workers," when they've all died?


Saturday
Since I won't live through all of the High Tech Era, I want to complete our 5th aspiration.
I can't start another aspiration this era, so I probably should have let Mina finish Master Chef.

But I can't help but want to make a significant contribution to our dynasty's success.
Max Villareal is my third declared enemy. (Yes, I checked first; he's not my co-worker.)


After completing the Botanist career two days ago, Pele joined the Criminal career.
He won't get far but it's something to do while he waits on Mina and me.


After Santos celebrates his young adult birthday, both Avana and he start learning Parenting.
When Okika and Poke get older, they'll often ask for advice.
Of course, they'll ask the adults with the lowest Parenting skill and thus get the worst advice.

They're to read and interact with Okika and Pele until they're at least Parenting 8.



Week 10, Sunday (2nd week of Autumn)
To everyone's surprise, Pele returns home at 2 am with his Level 6 promotion.
He chooses the Oracle branch of the Criminal career.
Until we enter the High Tech Era, he'll be stuck at that career level.
In the More Tech Era, he can't complete his skill requirements or daily task.


An hour later, I bring home my Level 8 promotion in the Boss career.
That completes our fifth aspiration: Public Enemy.

You're probably a little curious why I'm earning promotions faster than Mina is.
I'm very conscientious about work, whereas Mina's often late and struggles to earn promotions.


So far, my hair color and facial features have influenced the majority of the Kahale offspring.
Though Poke already shares my hair and skin tone, we're hoping he resembles Aleki.


Monday
Okika's birthday celebration notice arrives this morning.
My beautiful grand-daughter is now a beautiful child!


Don't feel bad for me because I'm a senior citizen!
I still got it goin' on. Just ask my wife.


Wednesday
My son Pele and grandson Poke, enjoying lunch together.


Thursday
I have been promoted to The Brains (Level 9).
Sadly, I now work only two nights a week.

Regardless, it's time we begin planning for the next era.


Later this morning, Poke leaves his toddlerhood behind.


In the afternoon, I turn Aleki at his request.
When the next era begins, he wants to be roughly the same age as his husband..


Friday
Mina and I only need one promotion each now.
After Mina gets back from work, we all head for Desert Bloom Park so the kids can fish.

It's a shame they can't earn their Outdoor Adventurer badge by fishing in Sulani.
On the other hand, we all enjoy our first trip to Oasis Springs.


Saturday
We're surprised to discover that Okika can learn to knit.
Not only that, but she builds both the Motor and Knitting skills at the same time.
Is it because she's already maxed Creative?

And Avana maxes Parenting while mentoring Okika in Knitting. Huh, another mentorable skill!


Santos asks me today if he should move out to make room for another nooboo.
I wish he'd mentioned earlier that he was willing to move out.

The last thing we need now is a nooboo going into the High Tech Era.
Who wants to raise a 12-day nooboo who ages up into a 28-day toddler? Not us!


Tonight, Mina completes the Chef career!
Ironically, on her very last day of work, she finally gains a living co-worker.



Week 11, Sunday (3rd week of Autumn)
By 11 pm, I've positive proof of completing my Boss career this shift.
I phone Pele and tell him to mix the Ultimate Vampire Cure for everyone.

Pele phones back to inform me that he, Mine, and Aleki drank their cures first.
And he's saving an extra one for me.


Monday
Tuki: At 1 am, I bring home my final promotion to complete our fifth career.
I down the vampire cure Pele hands me.
The Kahales are once again a household of human sims.

And we're ready to move ahead to the High Tech Era!

Watcher's Notes

*Okika and Poke: As adorable as they are, I messed up timing their births.
  I've never played on Long lifespan and had no idea the child/teen lifespans are 52 days each.
  I would have preferred Okika and Pele as teens in the High Tech Era. Oh well.

*Turning an elemental: I could find no Friendly socials for Tuki to turn Aleki.
 Tuki couldn't "Offer to Turn" while Aleki couldn't "Ask to Turn."
 Is this because Aleki's an island elemental?
 Tuki ended up using the Vampire social "Turn into Vampire," which worked fine.

*Tuki the Elder: When Tuki transformed into a vampire, his age bar was bubbling.
  Curing his vampirism, though, reset his age to Day 1 of the Elder stage.
  Long Lifespan's Elder stage is 40 days plus Tuki has a 25% bonus from the Long-Lived trait.
  It's highly possible that he will be around until the end of this challenge.
  I certainly hadn't started this challenge thinking Tuki would live so long, but I'm delighted.
