FWIW, when I launched Sims 4 today it prompted me to download the update. Then it crashed to desktop.

After doing that several times, I opened up Origin and launched Sims 4 from there. It downloaded the patch fine and I was able to play.

So just in case you have problems with the patch, there is a workaround.

Wow, an update that doesn't seem to break any of the mods I use. I don't think that has ever happened.
