Move Problem
« on: January 02, 2011, 08:58:22 PM »
I moved a family member from a household of four into a new house. My problem is that her old family disappeared from their lot! They continue to be in her relationships, and she can invite them in her new house, but I can't find them anywhere! I'm sure I must have done something wrong in the moving process, but I do not know what error it is. More importantly, how can I get them back? Pls help. Thanks!  ???

You probably didn't do anything wrong, story progression may have moved them out of town. That happens occasionally.

You could get them back by inviting them over, asking them to join your household (one by one), and then moving them out.

Thanks for the quick reply. Follow up questions:  They're a very rich family, if I move them back in one by one, what will happen to their wealth? Next question: If I move them out again, say as a family, what will become of the family member who does not move out with them? Will she disappear too? The way her family disappeared when she moved out? I never thought moving out a family member can be this troublesome, not like in Sims 2, I used to do it all the time and the Sims who stayed in the old house remained where they are.  :(

Having to move each family member in one by one this way is tedious but they will probably bring some money with them, whether they'll bring all the money they had previously, I don't know. I've never actually done this so let me know if it is not the case.

To move them all out except the Sim you want to play, have one of them "move" with a phone or computer. Then select the Sims you want to move out but keep your active family as the one with the Sim you want to play (should be selected for you.) Now you can either "kick out" these Sims, which moves them into a random house large enough for them, or you can select a lot or house for them to move into. If you chose the second option, either a house or a lot, the money to buy the lot or house comes out of the family funds. Your Sim is essentially buying the house for them.

When you click the final check mark, the Sim staying in your active household will be free to do as you please, nothing will change there. The family members moving out will now be removed from the interface on the left (where the household head shots are), the Sims will gather on the curb and a cab will take them to their new home. Anything in their personal inventories goes with them.

The Sims 2 didn't have story progression the way the Sim 3 does. You can turn it off under (...)/Options but then all story progression elements will be turned off: no births, birthdays, deaths, moves, etc.

Hi Lily-girl, I think I did the same thing, I moved out the Sim and chose a lot for her to move into, but I chose her to be the active family because my story is currently about her. She did move to her new house, but when she did, her family disappeared from their old house. Do you mean by this, I should have made the family in the old house, the active family? Hmmm... perhaps that what I should have done. But nevertheless, I have to undo this (ugh!) I would just have to move them into her small house and then move them back into the old house ( I hope they can still afford it) ... I get it, there's no other way around this except that. I hope they keep their wealth with them, I hope they still have that vacation house in France when they return as the active family! Many thanks for your help!  :)

If you make the family move back into the old house but still choose the solo sim as the active household, they may still move around due to story progression. If you make the family in the old house the active household your solo sim may move due to progression too. You have to choose which household you will prefer to play. (:

I know, I figured out there was no way around. So what I finally did was I copied a file of the old family from the bin (thank goodness I copied all the families when I created a new SV) and moved them into their old house. Then I merged the single member (the one who moved out) to their old family. I had a case of a doppelganger (hope I spelled that right!), two identical characters in the same house. I chose one and moved her out and deleted her. It was a long process and I will be more careful in moving out again. The bad news is , they lost their vacation house in France , something they bought before moving around. The good news is, the girl who moved back in has a new son (from Christopher Steel), and the rich grandfather has a new grandson in their old house. Grandson of the Leader of the Free World, son of the mad scientist lady (ha ha!) I guess that's not a bad the trade off. Ciao!  ;D
