[BUG] Kids cannot learn piano?

I wonder why mine can't. Well... I'm thinking of the triple boost of Great Accoustics, Peace and Quiet, Study Spot, plus the micro home. So, I bought mine a piano book for her to read (of course creativity is already at 10). I made her read it and no skill bar shows there. Then, I switch to the keyboard first, and then piano. Neither gives mine any piano skill.

I'll test this later, to see whether it is the skill book that trigger it. what I want to ask is how is you guys' experience about this?

I haven't tried since the patch/expansion, and I haven't ever tried with a child in a tiny home.  They should also be able to learn violin, have you tried a child-size violin yet?

@Brian_Z well... I tried a new game, and it works for this new child. So, I guess it is corrupted save?

man... I have to get the elemental, marry with that family for the ancient bloodline, and marry father winter once again...

yeah about half of my kids can learn violin, half can't. It's a known bug.

It's a known bug, report it on the link Playalot posted... I too have that issue where my child sim can't learn any skills even with cheats so the more reports ea get's the better the chance at getting a fix soon

So there's a workaround for this problem- once your child has maxed a childhood skill, be sure to have them get started on all the adult skills related to it, BEFORE you save the game.  For example, they max out Creativity:  right away, have them practice a bit on violin and piano, long enough that they pick up those skills.  If you have a pipe organ available, practice that too.  THEN it's ok to save the game. 

Does anyone know all the adult skills a child is able to learn?  I just had a kid max Creativity, so I had her play a little bit on the piano and violin, not too worried about pipe organ.  Pretty sure that Creativity just gets you those 3 instruments?
Mental gets you Logic and Fishing, is there anything else?
Social gets Charisma... does it also do Comedy and Mischief?
And as far as I could ever tell, Motor doesn't unlock anything.  Kids can't use workout equipment, or even jog, and they never seem to get Fitness when swimming.

Edit:  Creativity also opens up Singing, just tried it.

Yes it does.  This child couldn't seem to pick up video gaming or fishing, even after maxing her mental and trying to learn them before a save.  I didn't know they could pick up all those skills before maxing child skills either!

I believe they can learn Pet Training, without maxing any childhood skills.  One game a little while ago, after this bug turned up, that was one of the few things a child could learn.

I knew I was forgetting one. I looked and I couldn't find a list anywhere. Yep, you can learn pet training.

The child wrapped up all her childhood aspirations, couldn't pick up Charisma, Fishing, or Video Gaming though.  But at least she's got lots that she can work on, it's still 35 days till her birthday!

That bug affecting random child learning adult skills makes childhood much less productive. I am so glad you pointed out a work around. Instead of a new expansion pack in late fall wouldn't it be great if they actually fixed the game we have now? I know I am dreaming as the sims all generations of it has been an annoying bug fest. Why would they take the time to fix that now?

Could you explain how this workaround helps? In one family, I had twins max a child skill then immediately start the corresponding "adult" skills. Then moved on to the next childhood skill.
One twin learned all the "adult" skills, but the other only learned some. What do you mean by "THEN, it's okay to save the game" if a child fails to acquire the expected "adult skill"?
Once I save/exit the game, the opportunity to acquire the related adult skills is lost forever?

@oshizu  You need to pick up any adult skills before saving.  It seems to help, but as I discovered it's still not guaranteed to work- my child still didn't get Charisma, Fishing, or Video Gaming.  But people have reported that saving seems to lock the sim from that point and they can't learn after that.  Also some have had success with using a cheat to knock the child back to level 9 of the childhood skill, then max again and try to learn the adult skill.
