First timer Game Update after Downloading Mods!!
« on: June 03, 2020, 03:28:41 PM »
Okay so in the last couple of months I've gotten pretty good at downloading CC and Mods to my game and I've been putting a ton of work into my Disney/fairytale land to make it "historically" accurate to it's respective periods. Just last night I spent 4 hour redecorating Snow White's Tudor castle, it looks great! Come to this morning the game needs an update so what do I do? Blindly plow forward with the update, start my gamesave and it crashes when I try to load my save. It said that custom content would be disable so I', like "okay, I'll just reactivate it and see if it works and if not I'll remove and go from there". Apparently WRONG thing to do! I just removed all of my mods from the game thinking that the game should load and it dosen't! It still crashes!! So I'm like okay maybe I need to update the mods, but none of the one I have including the Royalty mod have updates out today. So like I said I figure removing them and waiting for the mod updates would solve this but no. :-( I've put so much work into this, please please please someone help me figure out how to fix this!!  :-\ :-\

So grateful for assistance thank you!!!

You need to move your mods folder to the desktop, plus delete the localthumbcache.package from the Sims 4 folder in the Documents folder.

The current game update is a fairly big one, which will make mods and custom content break. They will need to be updated by their various creators.

If you would like to learn more about fixing issues with mods/cc, please see the post linked below:

Thank you! I'll attempt that now and see what happens. See simple things like deleting that folder you're talking about and moving the mods fold to the desktop I haven't even thought about doing, didn't know that was a thing, so thank you!!! As far as how to get the game and mods running again is it a matter of waiting for the mod creators to do updates then? Is that info all in the link you gave me?

Thanks again MrsFlynn!!

You're welcome!! :)

Yes it's just a matter of waiting, however most content creators are fairly quick in updating their mods and custom content. All the how-tos and whatnots info is in the linked post.

Okay I did what you said, and my game save still crashes when I open it.  :'( Does that mean I just need to wait for updates or is something terribly wrong?

To reiterate I still have the mods folder on the desktop, not in the mods folder. But my fairy-tale save still crashed, sorry should have specified that!

Moving the mod and custom content files is fine. It's easier for some to just move the actual mods folder to the desktop, that's why I suggested that.

If the game is still crashing even after removing the mods/cc files, and deleting the localthumbcache.package from the Sims 4 folder in the Documents folder, you might try repairing the game to see if that helps.

Something else you could try is creating a new Sims 4 folder to see if that helps. This should help determine if it's something with the save or the Sims 4 folder itself.

Try a test-game to start without anything back. If that plays okay. Then try your problem save to see if it works better.

Well I can play my other saves, the game does load and I have even managed to load a game that was all vanilla (I never used cc or mods while playing it). In fact all my game save are loadable except for my two fairytale game saves and my historical game save in which all of them were run with extensive cc and mods added.

So I think it something that has to be specifically related to those three saves as well as the fact they were run with cc and mods. Did I break the saves somehow??

Also could you tell me what "repairing the game" means? I don't think I've ever had to attempt that.

I really appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions!

That to me makes it sound like there maybe something wrong with the saves themselves.

Repair Game checks all of the game's files on your computer against the files on Origin's servers. It then downloads and replaces any files that don't match. It (as far as I know) doesn't affect any files in your Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 folder, but it's a good idea to back that up before running Repair Game.

This shouldn't take but a few minutes to do.

How do I find "repair game"? Is this inside the game menu or inside the files? Is it something I have to download or is it in the Origin menu? Sorry I'm kind of a tech idiot, I just loves sims.  :-[

Yeah I was worried when I rushed into doing an update without removing the mod and cc files that might be what damaged the saves,  :'( because it was all working perfectly last night before I updated it the game today.

Thanks again! Going to eat lunch I'll check back on this is a bit!

In Origin > Games Library tab: Right-click on Sims 4 or Sims 3 and select Repair.

Sims 4 - Repairing the Game (What & How-To)

Yeah, updating without removing mods can damage games. :(

I just updated my game, but renamed my Sims 4 folder to make sure it wouldn't hurt any of the saves inside of the old folder. It created a new folder and everything loads fine.

OK the new patch is crashing saves with and without mods. It is a known bug and there is no workaround. It seems random on which saves it crashes. Here is a tweet on the issue

https://twitter.com/SimGuruNick/status/1268204920479473664

Here is the support page.

https://answers.ea.com/t5/Bug-Reports/Error-Code-134-368f1773/m-p/9168759#M132978

It is messing up saves on all platforms, games with and without mod but not every save and not everyone is having this issue. This is a bug not a mod issue. Still try moving the mod folder to the desk top and deleting the localthumbcache.package and then reparing the game as these are a good thing to do anyway, but this sounds like a known bug with the new patch. No workaround at this time, but they are working on it and ask you do not delete the saves. If doing everything MrsFlynn instructed you to do please add me to link above. This bug got my most important save, my ghost collection. A save I only do with out mods. I am not happy. I have hundreds of hours on that save.

So, Scoed and MrsFlynn,

Thank you for all the help, you've really  been a great help to ease my anxiety over this being all my fault somehow because of my own ignorance.

So as far as what I've done:

-I did all the things you've suggested MrsFlynn as far as removing the folder to the desktop, deleting the files you listed and also. I did the repair game and even went as far to uninstall the whole game and reinstall it again and the SAME THREE save games won't load, BUT the others will load and appear to have updated properly. (I've even testing out adding ladders!)

Sooo, it looks like the patch might have damage my three saves too, which suck because they are the ones I put the most work and the most hours into. At this point though I feel like I've done everything I can, so we should just wait for news about this patch fix??

Also, Scoed I read that a lot of people who are having issues are getting an error code, I am not, it just frezzes blacks out and crashes, no error message. so I don't know if that changes my situation for better or worse compared to the other out there.

Oh my what to do in the meantime?

The issue you're describing may still have to do with the game crashing bug. So it maybe best to report the issue.

AHQ's Sims 4 Tech Help Board:
https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues-PC/bd-p/The-Sims-4

As there's not anything more we as fellow players can do to fix the game.

You may want to give details on what you did to troubleshoot the issue, so who ever tries to help over there will know what you've tried.

Also, while you waiting for the devs to fix the issue, you can try a new game in the meantime.

Thanks for your help MrsFlynn!! I really appreciate you taking time out for me! I've used the time not being able play my saves creating new "showrooms for myself to organize my CC by era.  ;D Hopefully I can sifure out the problem with the Tech help board.

Thanks again!!
