Sims 4 Crashing On Startup
« on: April 29, 2020, 12:47:34 PM »
Here something thats got me stumped. Let's about 1 out of 5 times I go to play, like click on icon on desktop, the game starts loading music plays plumbob spins then within just 30 seconds it crashes to desktop. I try again then usually everything is okay and it will load completely. (If i'm unlucky it will happen twice in a row)

Okay at first I thought it was either some problem with my CC or just my aging computer, with failing components.

So recently a build a new machine with the latest version of Windows 10, new motherboard, new cpu (Intel Core i5), new graphics card  (ATI Radeon RX 570 Series ), ram (16.0GB Dual-Channel) new everything. More than enough to well it good.  But it does the same on this as well.

Finding the problem is almost nearly impossible, I have done the 50/50 thing dozens of times. But since the problem is random it fools me thinking i'm been doing the right thing. like sometimes I might not get a crash until 20 runs later.

Anyway so far it's been happening for months, since Discover University anyway or the patch for it, it's hard to quite say.

So wondering if anyone has any suggestions, so strange because if it's a crash, it should happen everytime until I do something, but random, makes no sense at all..

If you haven't try the troubleshooting tips listed below. Please forgive any repeat tips you've already tried.

1. Move your mods folder to the desktop, clear your game cache and delete the localthumbcache.package from the Sims 4 folder to help with troubleshooting. Try playing the game again to test. If it loads okay, it may be that some of the mods/cc have become outdated.

2. Making sure graphics drivers are up to date.

After updating the graphics drivers, restart the computer.

3. If you have a dual graphics card system, make sure the game runs on the card and not the chip.

4. Turn off Origin in game:
In Origin > Application Settings > Origin In-Game. Turn this off. As sometimes it causes issues with the game.

5. Start the game in Windowed mode, via Origin:

In Origin > Games Library - Right-click on Sims 4 and select Game Properties.
In the Command Line Arguments, add the following text: -w and click Okay.

6. Try running Origin As Administrator:
Right-click on the Origin icon on the desktop and select Run as Administrator.

7. Reset your Sims 4 folder, as explained in the post below:

If none of the tips above help, please post about the the issue at AHQ's Sims 4 Tech Help Board:

You have given me some suggestions I haven't tried, I presume -w must mean windowed, but I do play in a window anyway without the needing -w switch. (But I will try Origin's way of  it)

But you given me a thought, it could be coming from Origin and not the game itself.

I got a brand new ATI Radeon RX 570 Series graphics card with the latest drivers and there is no onboard graphics, so I have to rule that one out.

Always have run the game as administrator, Origin along with The Sims 4.

and I originally tried to post this issue in AHQ's Sims 4 Tech Help Board, but it wouldn't let me Submit. (Maybe the site was having issues at the time)

okay it's not dramatic but all the same it's still annoying.

The Official bug report forum is okay now, I managed to post the issue, otherwise I wouldn't of reported it here.

Thanks for your suggestions.
