Change front of lot

Is there a way to change the front of the lot?  I have a huge pool in the front of my house and when sims leave, they keep swimming across the pool to get out the front gate.  I even put a door on the side I want them to use and labeled it as the front door, but everyone still leaves through the pool.      I can always delete the front gate and see it that works, but I like having a gate there for various reasons.  So, I was just wondering if there was an option to change the front of the lot.  It is not shift+ctrl+click (been there, done that).
