It is so frustrating that if I queue up adoptions in both parents one after another, one of the adoptions always cancels out. Grrrr.
Still, it's fun to see all the nooboos and toodlers.    :)

Ah yes... the trick there is to wait until the 1000 Simoleans have been paid.
Pregnancy tests also have a way to cancel the queue of the other parent.

I thought parents had to be good friends with all babies in the house before they have a second adoption. I'm gonna be so annoyed with myself if we were allowed to do two adoptions straight after one another.

You do remember that both parents have to become good friends with the adopted baby before a second adoption can take place?

Ok, well...
Because the rules say that, before the second adoption, the parents have to be good friends with all babies in the house, my reasoning was:
One parent goes to adopt, and the second parent can then go to adopt as well immediately, because at that point, there are no babies in the house (yet).
Obviously, the parents do need to be marries first.
Now, from your statement, it seems that maybe I got this entirely wrong...
I'm afraid I have used this adoption strategy many times.

No, you're fine. Here's a quote from Glazey from a recent Discord discussion I had with her on this exact subject...

The game doesn't consider the adopted baby in the household until the popup screen where you can rename and then click the check mark.  So, actually, there would be no babies in the house before the second adoption.

All the time I wasted befriending blooming babies I'm gonna need a moment to feel irritated with myself.

Ok, thanks, Metro!

And now I have another question:
I know we can't age anyone up early. But can we have them use a cake on their birthday?
And if so, when exactly does that start? As soon as the age-up bar says 0 days until birthday? Or do we need to see bubbles?

Cakes are fine, and you can use them anytime on their birthday (0 days).
