Bill Nye's Science Invitational

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Goal
This new event is the idea of top competitor, Rainbow Dash (thanks, Rainbow). The goal is straightforward — get as high as you can in the Scientist career and try and make as many different Tainted serums and inventions in the brief two weeks you have. Just for kicks we're having Bill Nye as the official host. :)

General Challenge Rules
The General Challenge Rules always apply. If applicable, exceptions will be noted below.

Specific Challenge Rules
  • This challenge requires the Get to Work expansion.
  • In CAS, create 1 Human or Alien YA. Spellcasters and Vampires are not allowed.
  • No adding to the household. Cloned Sims are automatically added, so simply remove them immediately.
  • The following are banned: Connections, Easy Street, Career Hopper, Wishing Well.
  • The Challenge ends Week 3, Sunday 8:00 a.m.

Scoring

Science Career. Earn 10 points for each Scientist career level.

SIM. Serums and Inventions Multiplier. Every player starts with a multiplier of 1.00. Add .01 to the multiplier for each different Invention and Invention upgrade made and used. Add .02 to the multiplier for each different Tainted serum made and used.

Total. Take your Scientist Career score and multiply it by your Serums and Inventions Multiplier to get your Total.
A little spreadsheet to help with the calculations: Spreadsheet

Ch-Ch-Changes
The team does not want to edit and make changes to the ruleset once this event goes live, but we may have to. If an exploit is brought to our attention or we discover something else we reserve the right to ask affected players to redo their effort.

Have Questions?
If you have questions and need clarifications, ask away — you can either post your questions in this thread or if you feel a question might reveal a particular strategy you are considering, then feel free to PM the team. Choose the My Messages tab > Send Message > Send to Group (show membergroups) > Check the Challenge Board Moderator group.

And the Winner is...
After this event has closed everyone is encouraged to discuss how they approached the event. The winner is expected to provide detailed information on their strategy. Keep notes as you play your file.

I've been a spreadsheet nerd since my days in highschool (1989 onwards), and am more than happy to assist with creating and testing spreadsheets if that would be of any assistance @LenaLJ @Metropolis Man

Thank you, Deklitch. It's always nice to have back-up options. Lena was actually telling me today that her work schedule is kind of crazy lately with all the pandemic craziness, so if she does not have time to create a spreadsheet for a given event, I'll pull your chain.

I am so happy both of you are digging this one. There has been some talk recently in the threads with some players confused about this or that, etc. The team is doing our best to keep things simple. That's always the ultimate goal -- finding challenges that actually DO challenge players -- make them think and approach the game in new/different ways, but are not so complicated that they throw up their hands and take a pass.

Considering the overwhelming support by many I may jump back in and attempt this one. It's been a long time since I did this type of career.

Edit: adding questions to this as I test until the FAQ goes up or the event starts

Double checking while I set up practice files, no lot type, pack or lot trait bans on this one?
What is the process for removing a cloned sim?
I couldn't seem to locate anything regarding whether you could move onto a blank lot and build your own house or not in the general rules or these. What is the ruling on that?
Do tainted serums count as a separate serum?
