It's definitely worth a try Rachel. You can also "Trade Kitchen Secrets" for recipes with Sims that have the Natural Cook trait and are employed in the Culinary career. You have to wait 24 hrs before trading kitchen secrets with the same Sim again.
It's actually once a day! So if you invite the Sim over at say 9 pm and ask them then keep them there till after midnight you can ask them again. I have done this several times. I didn't know that they had to be in the Culinary career. I thought they just had to have the Natural Cook trait and your Sim has to know that?

I believe your Sims has to know the other Sims has the Natural Cook trait.

My Sim knows Jared Frio (Cook 2) is employed in Culinary (lvl 2) but not that he is a Nat Cook -> no trade kitchen secrets option
My Sim knows Tori Kimura (Cook 0) is a Nat Cook and that she isn't employed in Culinary -> no trade kitchen secrets option
My Sim knows Emma Hatch (Cook 4) is a Nat Cook and that she is employed in Culinary (lvl 5) -> can trade kitchen secrets
My Sim knows Molly French (Cook 7) is employed in Culinary (lvl 7) (Molly isn't a Nat Cook) -> no trade kitchen secrets option

That's all I've got in SV. Some actual testing would need to be done but it looks like 2 criteria must be met: the Sim must be employed in Culinary and be a Nat Cook, and your Sim knows they have the Nat Cook trait. Also they need to be friends.

And yes, the once per day thing resets at midnight.

Huh I didn't know that I seem to remember it only being the Natural Cook trait that triggered the trade kitchen secrets. I seem to remember being able to trade kitchen secrets with Lolly Racket (Twinbrook) and she is only a teen at the start. Well I am positive I was able to at one point in time but it is possible that she had aged up by then. I still have the file so I will have to check it. I will post back with what I find out!

Yep I am pretty sure it is just the Natural Cook trait. In the file where I was trading kitchen secrets with Lolly Racket she is the Cosignment Store Specialist! She is I am sure something different in each game as she starts as a teen! And I am pretty sure I was trading kitchen secrets with her as a teen and they can't work in culinary as a teen!

It is random as far as I can see. In all my games Jared is always willing to trade kitchen secrets with my Sim (Lily are you shore he is not Nat Cook in your game? In mine he is). Sometimes Emma Hatch is willing too, and once even Holly Alto got Nat Cook as YA and shared recipes with my Sim.

I'm playing Carina Dreamweaver in the Garden of Eatin' Smells Fishy Challenge.  I'm leaning toward the thought that your Sim has to know that the other Sim is a natural cook and that he/she is employed in the culinary career.  I've had times when my Sim could not trade secrets with a known natural cook; only with known culinary careers.  And in this challenge, Carina couldn't trade secrets with Emma Hatch until she found out that she's a natural cook, even though they work together.

I'm with Pam on this one.

As I said earlier, my Sim is coworkers with Jared Frio, Emma Hatch, and Molly French. Molly isn't a Nat Cook so she's out. My Sim knows Emma is a Nat Cook so she's a go. My Sim doesn't know Jared is a Nat Cook (although I know he is, Anushka) and she can't trade kitchen secrets with him. Tori Kimura and Chris Steel, both Nat Cooks, are also out because they aren't employed in Culinary. There seems to be two qualifiers.

Yeah for Carina! I am so glad she is back... well, somewhat. Also, in my experience there have only been one or two people in Sunset Valley at a time who meet the qualifications for Trading Recipees.

That is quite strange as I was definitely trading kitchen secrets with Lolly Racket and she is a teen at the start and then in my game went to work at the cosignment shop?  ??? Would someone be willing to test it in there game to see if they can trade secrets with her? I have in two of my games so far. She is in Twinbrook. I am very interested to see if maybe for some reason it is just my game or maybe if they start any younger than adult then they don't need to be employed in the culinary career? I really have no idea!

I wouldn't be surprised, actually, if EA changed how it all works.  I thought I remembered being able trade kitchen secrets with Sims that I can no longer do so.

I have never seen this option to 'Trade Kitchen Secrets'? I have of it from Pam of course but never had it show up for my cooks, it could just be my play style for my sims which mainly lacks friends.  ;D

I think both sims have to have Natural Cook, and the sims have to have discovered it.  One of the founders of my several failed attempts at the immortal dynasty got a recipe from Christopher Steel by doing that, although she was never able to share secrets again after that.  Maybe you can only do it once?
