Prologue: What Happened?





Various voices:
*I still don't understand what we're doing here!
*Yeah, I thought we were all headed toward that new colony on Mars.
*Well, we were, but then our our spacecraft crashed here. We're all  lucky to be alive!


Various voices:
*What went wrong? How could we have crash-landed here? Where are we, exactly?
*We seem to have landed on a habitable world, but I can't find it on any of my maps.
*Well, we're stuck here now. Our spacecraft's toast along with most of our supplies.
*No kidding! We'll have to start over again from scratch. *sighs


Leilani (left): Marlon, you were going to be supervisor for our settlement on Mars. You should take charge now.
Marlon (right): That's fine with me. Let's start with self-introductions. I'll go first.


Marlon: I'm Marlon Pries. I'm from StrangerVille but have many Selvadoradan ancestors.
My father worked as a Covert Operator, so I'm pretty good at techie stuff.
We'll be living off-the-grid at first, but my goal will be to set up power sources for us ASAP.


Leilani: I'm Leilani from Sulani.
I've known Marlon since grade school when his family spent a day at one of Sulani's beaches.
To ensure healthy living, I hope to raise and provide quality produce.


Mie (left): Jesper and I both hail from Copenhagen, but we only met recently on the spacecraft.


Mie: I've been trying to become a bestselling mystery novelist.
Marlon says he recovered a few laptops from the wreck, but we have no power.
Good thing I always keep a few notebooks in my handbag!
But journaling is NOT an easy way to learn Writing. I'm counting on you, Marlon!


Jesper: You may have heard of me before? My name's Jesper Noddesbro.
Not to be confused with my cousin, Jesper Brian Nøddesbo, world-famous handball player.
I'm a rather celebrated pro athlete, but I've also become interested in Wellness lately.
Though I don't need electricity to build Fitness, it would be nice to have a gym!


Takumi (left): Ayumi and I both lived in Japan but moved in completely different circles.
If not for the space journey, I doubt if we'd have ever met!

Ayumi: I have always loved glazing at clouds and stars.
Takumi believes that he and I share nothing in common, but I love painting landscapes!
Hopefully, I can become a Painter Extraordinaire.


Takumi: I'm all about the great outdoors but I wish for two things.
One, I want to live somewhere with great fishing right near my home.
And two, I want to become a Scientist!
In this new world, both my wishes could come true!


Marlon: Our group certainly possesses a useful combo of skills and goals for community building.
Leilani: What shall we name our world?
Mie: What about Belmondo?
Marlon: After that French New Wave actor Jean-Paul Belmondo who rose to fame in the 1960s?

 
Mie: Of course not, silly. In Italian, "bel mondo" means beautiful world.
Ayumi: Oooh, that's perfect!

Takumi: Changing the subject, this world has to be inhabited by other intelligent life forms!
Marlon: I agree, Takumi. The roads and that arch didn't just appear out of nowhere! We'll just have to wait and see.


Jesper: Well, I'm pretty much talked out for today. When do we get started for real?
Marlon: What about we begin by spending some time together here on this lot where I've chosen to live?

Mie: Absolutely! We need to get to know each other better and coordinate our plans!
(Everyone else nods in agreement.)
Marlon: Great! Let's sleep on it and make a fresh start tomorrow.

Build-A-City Challenge Rules

The BACC Challenge Rules

Last year, reggikko and I were exchanging messages one day about what challenges we looked forward to trying in the future.
She mentioned the Build-A-City Challenge, which I'd attempted several years ago and abandoned after 2 sim-weeks.
Since reggikko was planning to do one, though, I thought I would give the challenge another try.

There are multiple versions of BACC rulesets for The Sims 4. I will be following the BACC rules chosen by reggiko: Purzell's version.

Optional rules:
*Starting funds: At the start of a new CAS household, I determine their starting funds by rolling a number from 1-5 which corresponds to $10,000-$50,000.
*Community lots: The building cost of community lots (but not their land) shall be paid by community funds, with the cost varying with the lot type.
*Community fund: Contributions come from taxes, household donations, and $5k for every newly earned settler (but only after they've moved into Belmondo).
*Seasons: Each BACC rotation consists of one week, with each season lasting two weeks.
  MCCC will be used to adjust the season to remain the same throughout each rotation. (I may not like this and change it later.)
*Ageing: Lifespan settings have been fixed, via MCCC, to the following days: Pregnancy (2), Nooboo (2), Toddler (7), Child (13), Teen (13), YA (30), Adult (40), Elder (20)

More optional rules (18 March 2020)
*Aspirations: Each settler is allowed to work on and complete as many aspirations as they wish.
  If a settler completes more than two unique aspirations, however, only two of them may be counted toward community unlocks, including the Joker mechanic.
*Housing: A household starting on a new lot may live in a 32-tile Micro House for the first week to avail of its garden growth boost.
  The Micro House may be enlarged to a 64-tile Tiny House for toddlers.
  After the toddler stage or by the end of that household's week, the household may decide whether to further enlarge their home to 65+ tiles (Small House or regular Residential lot).
  The only exception to this is when an heir has children in the ancestral home; such heir may temporarily downsize their home to a 64-tile Tiny House so that this Watcher can enjoy toddlers more.

Oooooooh.

More ooooooooooooh. I like the dice roll for starting Fun.

My feeble mind is thinking of Kerbal Space Program, which would no doubt appeal to me, but maybe not as much as Sims.

Seeing such a blank neighborhood is new to me, and quite intimidating. I'm all fascinated, and happy to see Pries People. :)

We can bulldoze existing lots (except the special lots in Windenburg, Strangerville, and Magic HQ) as we unlock new neighborhoods, but I've bulldozed them all.
I've also deleted all the premade sims but I might reconsider premades I've never had the chance to meet in game (from StrangerVille onward).
Attempting to build different types of community lots could be fun....
Um, after your Dynasty of Original Townies Dynasty, what if you started this one next? *grins cheekily

I agree that the rules are both numerous and complex! And many of them are open to player interpretation as well.
The challenge doesn't have a definite final objective, either.
There's a Google Sheets spreadsheet by Purzel which helps keep track of all the unlock requirements.
We shall see how this goes. :)

Leilani Maholo was originally Nani Kealoha, the toddler of Makoa in Sulani. When I aged her up to teen, she was so unattractive that I gave her a CAS makeover and renamed her, too.
The other four (Ayumi, Takumi, Mie, and Jesper) are CAS sims.
I know I shouldn't steamroll through the BACC, but I'm impatient to be permitted to use electricity and socialize with townies, LOL.
So I guess I should start playing....
