Power of 10 - The Amato Dynasty - Chapter 3 - 3/19
« on: February 16, 2020, 11:17:46 PM »
Hello everyone! This is going to be my first real attempt at a dynasty and writing a story about my sims. Ironically, I'm a writer who loves to play the Sims, but I've never seriously tried to combine the two things for some reason. I decided to start with the Power of 10 Dynasty, because it seems to be a little bit less intimidating than some of the others. Because of the whole writer thing, there will definitely be a lot of details in my story that obviously don't "exist" in the real game, but I know that's the kind of story I enjoy reading, so I hope anyone who reads this will feel the same. My screenshots might not always be great, because I've never been one to really think about that, but I will try my best.

My plan is for each chapter to encompass about 2 in-game weeks(which is also a season based on the settings I chose). The only additional rule I'm adding besides the ones I have to follow is that one trait of the founder and each heir will be randomized(specifically the teen trait, I figured it made the most sense to randomize that one). I've got all the packs and my game is 100% up to date as required. I've already finished the first couple weeks of the challenge and my first chapter will be posted as soon as I write it.

Chapter List:
Chapter 1 - Carmella in the City
Chapter 2 - Triumph and Tragedy
Chapter 3 - Wedding Bells

Chapter 1: Carmella in the City

Meet Carmella Amato:

She comes from a fairly traditional Italian family and grew up in Windenburg with her father Vincenzo, mother Rossa, and her older brother Vinny Jr.

(Also pictured are Vinny's wife, Julianna, and children, Nico and Gemma.

It was expected that when she grew up that she would get married, move out, and have children, in that order, with no alterations or substitutions. But from a fairly young age, she had other plans. She wanted to move the big city and try to make it as a writer. It had always been her dream. She didn't want to lose her family, but she knew she had to be true to herself.

She decided that her best bet was to try convincing her father first. It might seem counter-intuitive but under his gruff exterior, Vincenzo Amato had a soft heart, particularly when it came to his youngest child. When it became apparent that there was no swaying Carmella, he grudgingly agreed to allow her to move into a property that he owned in San Myshuno, which Carmella tried to protest, but he insisted. "No daughter of mine will live alone in a run-down apartment," he said.

He also set limits on his agreement, she had a year to make it as a writer and if it didn't happen, she was coming back home to Windenburg. Carmella knew she'd never be able to do that, so she was bound and determined to make it, no matter what.

When Carmella moved into the house, she immediately hit the ground running. Performing odd jobs wherever and whenever she could to make money and get her name out there in the hopes of getting a job in the writing field. At night she practiced her craft and she grabbed meals whenever she could, usually alone and sometimes even standing up in the kitchen in between jobs.

She was feeling so lonely, used to being surrounded by family, so one day she decided that in spite of the rain, she would go out and try to meet some people in the area. She introduced herself to Oliana Ngata who was visiting from Sulani and Alice Martin, a local street performer.

Carmella and Alice hit it off really well and they started hanging out a lot. One day they decided to check out Geek Con. They worked on a rocket, played some games, and gossiped about all the cute guys they saw. And they finished off the day like all good millenials, with a selfie.

After completing a lot of odd jobs, Carmella finally found an opening as a writer's assistant and applied. To take her mind off her worries about whether or not she'd get it, she texted Alice and asked her if she wanted to check out the open mic night at the Stargazer Lounge and luckily she said yes. They decided to give the bubble blower a try and then had some drinks before showing off their karaoke skills.

The next morning, Carmella let out a big sigh of relief when she found out she got the job and would start the following day. She hadn't quite "made it" yet, but the finish line was now in sight.

Since she didn't have anything else she had to do, she decided to go and get some food at a local vendor and while she was out and about, she ran into a guy she had never seen before. When she first spotted Zayn Autery, it was love at first sight for Carmella. He was a bit standoffish, but she couldn't tell if he wasn't interested or if he was just playing hard to get. That night when Alice texted and invited her to Singles Night at 8 Balls in Strangerville, she jumped at the chance in the hopes that Zayn might be there too. She put on her best dress and thankfully, it didn't go to waste! The conversation started out a little awkward, but before long it became apparent that he was just as interested in Carmella as she was in him. And while there was an age difference between the two of them, it was nothing they couldn't overcome.

Over the next bit of time, Carmella was too busy with work to go out, but she invited Zayn over to see her place and they had their first kiss!

Carmella had to work on Love Day, but she still made time for Zayn and they decided to take a trip to Brindleton Bay to the Salty Paws Saloon for a date. At the end of the night just as Zayn was about to head home, Carmella knew that it had been long enough. She was sick of coming home to an empty house and not having enough time to spend together. She hadn't been planning on asking, but it just slipped out, "Will you move in with me?" And thankfully he agreed.

The following Sunday when her phone rang, she picked it up without thinking. It had become routine, every week without fail her mother called and they updated each other about what was going on in their respective cities. It didn't even occur to her that Zayn was out on the porch practicing guitar until her mother asked, "What is that noise?"

Carmella was immediately filled with anxiety. Her family still didn't know she was seeing somebody, let alone living with him. She knew it would be a hard sell to get them to approve of somebody so much older than her, which is why she had just avoided the topic up until now. She didn't think telling her over the phone would be the right way, so she simply said, "It's a street performer, Mama. Sometimes they get a little loud." She wouldn't be able to put it off much longer. She was fairly certain that Zayn was thinking about proposing soon and that meant it was time to introduce him to the family.

Chapter 2: Triumph and Tragedy

This second chapter has taken me a bit longer to prepare than the first. The second 2 weeks of this dynasty were significantly more eventful than the first, partly in ways that were out of my control.

Carmella decided that the easiest way to break the news to her family was to have a dinner party. She could invite a bunch of her new friends from San Myshuno and hopefully that would help take some of the scrutiny off of Zayn. Then once her father was in a good mood from all the food, she could pull him aside and break the news to him. She knew that starting with him was the way to go. She knew if she could get him on her side, the rest of the family would quickly follow. So Carmella put on a pretty new dress and called everyone up to invite them over. Zayn tried his best to make a good first impression in the living room while I cooked. Jade, Alice, and my father eventually came to join me and chatted while I cooked.

During dinner, everyone seemed to enjoy the food. However, I could tell my dad was tense and I was worried that he had caught on to the fact that Zayn was more than just a friend.

As everyone was finishing up, I decided now was the time. I asked my father to join me in the living room for a moment. At first I thought it might be going well, but then he noticed that Zayn was hovering near the doorway between the living room and the kitchen/dining area. He turned to him and said harshly, "This is between my daughter and I, your presence isn't required." Something sort of snapped inside me, I had been prepared to take whatever he had to dish out at me, but he wasn't going to treat Zayn badly in front of me, "No, Daddy, this involves him too. He is part of my life now and if you can't accept that, maybe it's best if you go." I wanted to take the words back as soon as they were out of my mouth. I wanted to stand up for my relationship with Zayn, but I didn't want to lose my father. But I didn't apologize, I knew that backing down was not an option. My father stalked into the other room to let the others know that they were leaving.

I sat in the living room, stunned. I couldn't believe that my father had actually left. I knew this was going to be difficult, but I never expected it to go this badly. I looked up when I heard Zayn walk back into the room. He could tell I needed space and had gone to clean up so I could have a moment alone. I smiled up at him, wanting him to know that while I was upset, I didn't regret choosing him. He returned the smile and then took my hand, pulling me off of the couch, "Carmella I know this might seem like a bad time, but after what you've done for me tonight, I can't wait any longer," Zayn said as he slid down onto one knee, "Would you please be my wife?" All of the negative emotions from earlier slid away as I looked down at his face and said, "I've never wanted anything more."

Shortly after that night, I got another surprise. We would have to wait a little longer than we planned to get married, because I wanted to look my best and not like a watermelon walking down the aisle. That's right, I'm pregnant. I told Zayn and thankfully he was thrilled.

The next day, I decided that I would spend my day off at the Spice Festival, since it was practically in my front yard.

Later that night, I got devastating news. My brother called to tell me that our father Vincenzo had passed away. I never imagined that the last time I saw him would actually be the last time I saw him. I felt guilty for my part in what happened, but I was also angry at him for not being more reasonable. I couldn't believe that we wouldn't have the chance to make amends.

After losing my father, I knew there was no way I could wait any longer before reaching out to my mother. When she came over I made it clear to her that my life choices were not up for debate, but I loved her and I wanted her to be a part of my life. I told her my big news and she was happy for me. We capped off the night with a nice dinner at Villa Bovine.

The next week was no less action-packed than the first. I went to Alice's birthday party.

Then it was time for my baby shower at Mama's house.

Very soon after, it was time for me to give birth. Zayn escorted me to the hospital and luckily everything went smoothly, even though he had a couple of freakouts along the way.

We welcomed Luca Amato into the world and he was perfect. It was love at first sight for Zayn when he met his little boy.

We decided that since we were now a family of 3, we had outgrown the tiny home I had first moved into and did a major renovation, inside and out. We couldn't quite afford to furnish everything, but we decided it was better to build bigger, furniture could always be added later.

And then tragedy struck again. It was Mama's time to go be with Daddy. It didn't surprise me. They were inseparable in life, why would death be any different? I decided to pay a visit to my brother, who had inherited the family home since he and his family had still been living there. I didn't mind, but I did make a request, I wanted to take their urns with me to San Myshuno. I knew it was a long shot, but I'd heard rumors of loved ones visiting and I hoped that maybe I would have one final chance to tell them how much I loved them. He agreed and I promised I would be in touch. Our parents may be gone, but that didn't mean we weren't still a family.

I decided that after all the loss I had suffered, I needed to add something to my life. I had always loved cats, but I hadn't been able to afford one before now. So I decided to adopt 2! A little black kitten named Splash and a Siamese kitten named Summer. Of course, I took tons of pictures of them for Simstagram.

It's shocking how fast the little ones grow up. Zayn wanted to be the one to age up Luca, so I agreed since I would probably be handling the next birthday. I am the cook in the family after all.

I finally got my wish. Mama and Daddy both came to visit me. I told them how much they meant to be and gave them one last hug before honoring their wishes. They knew they didn't belong here anymore, so I released their spirits after mourning one last time.

I spent the evening taking care of Luca, giving him a bath before reading him a bedtime story.

I looked at the calendar and realized that somehow the time had gotten away from me. How was it already time for me to become an adult? That couldn't be right. I may have a baby, but I certainly didn't feel like an adult. But unfortunately, time doesn't listen to feelings. I knew it would happen whether I celebrated or not, so I decided I might as well enjoy the process. I threw a party and invited all my friends and the family I had left. I hired a caterer so I wouldn't have to bake my own cake and at the end of the night I blew out the candles.

The next day was the 4th of July and of course, we had to celebrate. We decorated the house in red, white, and blue, bought all kinds of outdoor stuff, and threw a weenie roast. We even brought little Luca out to enjoy the party in his own little pool. We invited everybody over and even in spite of a small fire, we all had a great time eating food, throwing water balloons and playing on the slip-n-slide. It was a great end to a bittersweet summer.
