Do we have "Fill empty homes" turned on or off? I'm assuming we only target pre-made townies for this challenge and not randomly generated families?

We have not written that it has to be pre-made anywhere in the rules.

I have a broken shower in my first house. I am guessing my options are to either "repair" the shower or to "hire emergency repair service" not "replace" the shower.

Can we buy potions and reward traits from the reward store? Those aren't changing/adding to the lot, as far as I can tell...

Those are fine, Nikitachi. I'll clarify the rules now.

Edit --

  • The only items you can purchase from Build Mode are extra beds, skilling objects, and anything necessary to use those skilling objects (Reward Store Traits are fine). These are the only changes/additions you can make to the lots.

Thanks for the answers Lena - further experimentation suggests that item transfer for sale is of fairly limited use, but it's good to know these things. Thanks also to Rainbow Dash for bringing my attention to the fact we don't have to stick exclusively to premade households! I'd assumed otherwise, even though as Lena says it's never specified in the rules. My game only ever seems to generate a handful of new families in Willow Creek and Oasis Springs, and though I'm not sure there'll be all too many that'll be more attractive propositions than some of the premades, it's worth a quick rejig of my strategy, I think...

Speaking of strategy, I've got two new questions! First: though my sim "cannot gain more than level 1" in a skill before designating it, presumably they can progress as far into level 1 as they like? As in, they can be 99% of the way to level 2 before designation? Second: can potions from the reward store be treated like fruit in previous examples, in that they can be purchased by one sim yet given to another to consume, even across households?

@Teresa That was pretty fast, I haven't even started yet! :o

:) Since we have to deactivate certain packs and turn off mods, when I start I have to finish before I can play my other challenges.  So, I started playing on Monday, and have played before and after work and classes, and I went home early yesterday so I had several hours of extra playtime. I know as the other scores come in, I will see that maybe I should have practiced first, but nah, I am going to jump right in with just a little bit of planning and a whole lot of "hmm maybe I should have done that differently".

@Deklitch I would have thought that replacing a broken item was ok as it's not changing the lot. You end up with the exact same item it's not improved or anything. Obviously wait for an official ruling.

1 - 99% into level 1 is still less than "more than level 1" so, yes, that's fine. :)

2 - Not sure what you mean by "across households." The Household Management screen cannot be touched in any challenge. That's a general rule. But, if you're just talking about Sim A purchasing a potion to give to Sim B in the same household - no biggie there.

Agreed. The game automatically replaces a broken item with the same quality level when you choose "replace." So, don't for example, delete a cheap broken stove, and then go into Build mode to buy a more expensive one.

I am a bit confused now...
So, if we have, let's say, 5 sims in the household and they're all working on the Cooking skill but there is only one stove in the house, they can't buy more and have to share the only one?
Then, what skilling items are okay to be bought? We can only buy them if there are none in the house? And even in that case, we can only buy one unit?

Yeah, my phrasing there wasn't great: I'm envisaging a situation where Sim A in Household 1 purchases a potion and gives it to my sim, who then carries it on into Household 2 to give to Sim B. In the sense of it being a consumable, a potion isn't necessarily different from a fruit, the transfer of which has already been okay'ed, but given that the effects of a potion are significantly stronger I figured I ought to get confirmation...

This would appear to contradict Lena's answer to a similar question on the first page of the thread? Specifically:

Is there a limit number of skilling objects or beds we can buy? Like can my sim buy 20 nice beds and 20 nice ovens if she plan to max cooking? If the number is limit, say only extra beds, how do we count them? The big bed is for 2 sims, for example? [...]

No limit on it. But they have to be able to fit on the lot. As you cannot change anything else on the lot you need to have the space for those 20 beds :)

Sorry, everybody. Ignore my last response. I am contradicting what Lena said previously - I guess I completely missed her response and this is her event, so she's got final say. So, go with her answer - no limit on beds/skilling objects as long as you have the space and do not change the lot in order to make room for those items.
