Death sequence issue

I've never encountered this in the base game... but two of my roommates died.  evidently they didn't feed themselves for 4 days.  That in and of itself seems like a bug, but they dropped dead four hours ago, and the grim reaper is still just standing there.  i can't interact with him or the two dead roommates.  There's a whole crowd just standing around crying.  I can't leave, I can't save, I can't do... anything.

How long does death normally take?  Is there any way out of/ around this?

It sounds like the game has crashed for some reason. Specially if you're not able to do anything with the game. Have you tried getting out of game via Task Manager? Press together the Shift-Ctrl-Esc keys, look for Sims 4, right-click on it to End Task.

Move your mods folder to the desktop, delete game cache and localthumbcache.package file out of the Sims 4 folder and try the game again. If you find that it is still happening, you may need to report the issue.
