Adding lots to a world
« on: October 24, 2019, 05:11:44 PM »
Hi. It seems that if I try to add a lot to a world I'm playing, as soon as I try to build on it, the game crashes out.
This is something recent. I used to be able to do this, and added many lots to say Sunset Valley, and built on them.
Now I use the cheat "addlotsize 30 x 40" for instance. The lot appears, I place it, and then try to place, in this instance, the Store Greenhouse lot. As soon as the build is in place, and I click OK, the whole game crashes to desktop.
These are not huge worlds. Nor are they huge lot sizes or builds. I doubt it can be to do with routing as the lot is only just placed, Sims surely wouldn't be unable to get there so quickly?
Any suggestions short of throwing the thing out of the window would be helpful. :o

I've found that happens to me in the world that came with Supernatural. I just simply don't play in that world, or don't place lots there.

It has happened to me in IP and a user-made world called Glendalough.

I've been doing a lot of building lately, and have used that cheat recently without issue.

Question, have you cleared your game cache and tried using the cheat again? Maybe try in a new game save to test.

What other troubleshooting tips have you tried? The reason I'm asking is so we don't repeat troubleshooting tips.

If I want to add a lot to Sunset Valley, I go to edit world and then there's an option to add lots of different sizes, I don't think they require me to type in any cheats, however. It just doesn't allow me to do so on unroutable terrain and it gives me set sizes I can use.

I just thought I should mention that's the way I do it ... and the only way I know how to do it.

Mrs Flynn's suggestions are good ones to try :)

Mrs Flynn, I delete the cache files every time before starting the game. I also delete the Current Game folder and a few other things.

My game is patched up to 1.67 as I don't want the 1.69.

The cheat, Deklitch, is just to allow the use of irregular sized lots, as the size I wanted was different from the standard sizes offered ingame.

Last night I was in Twinbrook in a new game and was able to install the same lot successfully, using that same cheat. I don't understand...

The World Editor only has certain sizes offered. If you want to say place a 30x40 or 60x60, you have to use a mod and enter a cheat to be able to create different lot sizes not offered by the World Editor.

I am patched up to 1.67 also. I don't have Glendalough, but do have IP. I'll try recreating the issue later today and report what I find.

Thank you for letting us know you delete cache and created a new Sims 3 folder.

I'm not sure what else to suggest, and it doesn't sound like it's the mod that's not working correctly. It sounds like it's working fine, since you've been able to use it in Twinbrook. Hmmm...

-- Edit to Add:

I tried recreating the issue using IP. Even after placing the lot and going into and out of build/buy mode adding a few objects and plants to the lot and it didn't crash.

I'm stumped as to what could be causing the crash in IP, but it working in other towns.

Ah, I see. I am too lazy to do that ... I just place the lots allowed by World Editor and lots that aren't those sizes go on bigger sized lots :)
