7.36: Convos with Carmen

Friday, Week 38

Hey there, I'm Keanu's wife Carmen.
You may recall that I only met him a few days before his YA birthday.

In two weeks, Keanu will probably turn over the narration to a teen Bianca.
So, this week, Watcher says I'll be guiding y'all through a week in our life.

Keanu has that Hawaiian name but he's not really Hawaiian.
In fact, many of his ancestors hail from Selvadorada, like me.

But we both love living here in Sulani.
We've gone so native that even tourists ask to take photos with us.

You've met the twins, of course.
The next heir, Bianca, has the shorter, straight hair.
They've joined scouts already but don't start school until Monday.

Thanks to the girls' Gift of Sulani, I'll no longer spend hours fertilizing each day.
They're both born spellcasters, too.
Keanu and I have made little magical progress, but hopefully Bianca can do better.

And last but not least, there's Mocha.
He has the best personality: affectionate, friendly, and talkative.
He is the perfect companion!

You've probably heard that I used to make a living selling exploration supplies.
Well, now, I live in a luxurious home with an ocean view.

That third-floor room? Keanu says it's for his collection…

We're all so proud of Keanu!
Before even leaving for work this morning, he earned his final promotion!
He considers staying on as Master of Marine Affairs, but quits after all.

And while Keanu's off doing his last odd job…

The twins become ever more popular Social Butterflies.
For her 2 adult friends, Jaida befriends her grandparents, Kahlua and Kengo.

Bianca's a bit more ambitious and has me invite Morgyn Ember over.
And now they're friends.

In the evening, Jaida and I stay home while Keanu takes Bianca to the Magical Realm.
Keanu phones to say that Bianca's too young to learn magic yet.

Bianca does introduce herself to the other two sages.
Then they visit Casters Alley where Keanu buys her lots of stuff she can't use yet.

Freddy Nicholson seems to be a new teen in our simverse.
Watcher mumbles something about Freddy being a great fit for Bianca.
Because his jealousy would keep Bianca on her toes.

If you ask me, Watcher just likes the way he looks.
We'll just need to wait for Jonathan and Freddy to gain their third traits.

Keanu's working hard on his collection of buried treasures.
It's a thankless job.
Personally, I think he should just claim Fitness as his unique skill.
At this point, he's at DJ Mixing 7 but Fitness 9.

Sunday, Week 39

Keanu's got that pesky Sulani Breeze moodlet again.
If it's gotta be two days long, couldn't the moodlet be more useful?
Now he's at risk of hysteria for the next 48 hours.

When I swim out to see how Keanu's doing, I catch him loafing.
The good news is that he's completed his collection.
More like given up on it, according to Keanu.

Oddly, the girls can't earn their Outdoor Adventurer badge fishing anywhere in Sulani.
We visit Magnolia Blossom Park so they can go fishing.
And while we're there, they play on the pirate ship.

Back home from the park, Keanu discovers four of his buried treasures are missing.
He spends two more days scuba diving to replace the glitched items.
Displayed in that third-floor room, his collection's worth $8,150.

By the way, he maxed Fitness while replacing his lost items. He's made that his unique skill.

Keanu's mother warned us she struggled with the kava party during her generation.
That's why Keanu decides to throw one while the twins are still in school.
No problem at all with the kava bowls this time.

I manage to befriend that sage Morgyn.
Meanwhile, Keanu becomes good friends with the bartender and the sage Simeon.

We're shocked when "our" Jonathan arrives at the bowling alley, but not alone.
He's wearing matching bowling shirts with a pretty girl who glares at Bianca.
What's up with that?

In other news, Keanu and I discover a quick way to identify teens.
If we click on a sim but see no Parenting option, they're not a teen.

Mocha looks absolutely thrilled to have come with us.

Bianca declares Jonathan a bore and wants to meet Freddy Nicholson.
Once he arrives, Keanu gives him a makeover and the closet reveals some nice surprises.

Not only does Freddy clean up extremely nicely, but he's also a spellcaster like Bianca.
But, let's just say that Bianca's not a fan of that Jealous trait.

Bianca (internally): I might as well befriend him since I need to boost my Charisma, anyway.
However, I'm not done shopping around by any means!

Freddy: Exactly how old are you, Bianca?
Bianca: Um, I'll be a teen next week.

Keanu hosts two more parties.
He's in no rush to throw the rest of them this week, he says.

He does make his tenth good friend during the Incognito Party.

Morgyn apparently got a day job and couldn't attend our party.
I was surprised when Keanu told me Morgyn works as a scientist now.
Maybe the sages need to unionize for higher wages?

After that late afternoon Incognito Party, Keanu heads for the Magical Realm.
He phones me from Casters Alley, saying he's bought tomes and a better wand for Bianca.
He also searched all the HQ's bookscases for free magical tomes.  Or so he says.

Keanu seems extraordinarily attached to Morgyn.
Is it just a typical master-disciple relationship? Or should I be worried?

After returning from the Magical Realm the next morning (!!!), Keanu resumes cleaning Mua Pel'am.
The environment hasn't improved at all for a while.

Once the island reaches its optimum state, baby turtles will hatch on this shoreline, he says.
He's at a loss for what to do besides his daily cleanup.

While he's off on his cleanup campaign, Bianca completes all her aspirations as well as scouting.
She earned her Keep Fit badge surprisingly quickly.
I wonder if swimming around works more efficiently than swinging?  Hmmmmm.

Just six more days to go until the twins' teen birthday!

Up next: Teen birthdays, part-time jobs, and…a few surprises

Keanu's move-out requirements: 9/10
✔️ 1. Unique career: Marine Biologist 10 (Master of Marine Affairs)
✔️ 2. Unique skill: Fitness 10
✔️ 3. Earned 10k satisfaction points: yes
✔️ 4. Earned $10,000: yes
✔️ 5. 10/10 good friends (2/2 non-human)
✔️ 6. 10/10 odd jobs
📌 7. 6/10 parties
✔️ 8. 10/10 emotional whims
✔️ 9. 10/10 community lots for min. 2 hrs each
✔️10. 0/10-item collection: Buried Treasures ($8,150)

Watcher's Remarks
*Before visiting Magnolia Blossom Park, I got a save error and had to save from Manage World.
When I reloaded the game the next real-life day, Keanu's collection was missing 4 pieces.
As if collecting buried treasures wasn't already time-consuming enough.
*Those matching bowling shirts crack me up every time!

So much seems to have happened. Such a fun chapter. Mocha sleeping at the bowling is a favourite.

I second sages unionizing for better pay. I think I've got a save where it was / is also Morgyn who had another career. I'll have to check if any others sages do. Hmm. If a sage can end up as a scientist, then Father Winter -- similar kind if title with no career attached -- might end up as a doctor or something.

Yes, swimming might be good for the Get Fit badge. I know Aidan and Scarlet swam a lot of laps and it felt a little faster than usual. I often have the kids dance which seems to take forever.

I love the house and the openness. (I don't adapt to Sulani well, I don't make the lot green and lush enough. I've been planning houses and need gallery help.)

Can you use a 5k retraiting potion on anyone -- thinking of you, Freddy -- if the jealous trait is undesirable? I hope Keanu maxing fitness as his unique skill doesn't impact anyone later on.
It is a little thing of my own. I call it "Heart Foam". I shall not publish it. Farewell! Patience, Patience, farewell!

Exit Bunthorne.

Just on my catchup trip right now.
You have gotten so far. Congrats.
Bianca is a very pretty one, is she going to move to the land of magic when she gets older?

In my save, Morgyn's a scientist and poor Simeon has a retail job. I haven't checked L. Faba's career.
It's a bit of a pain, though, because it means that my sims won't always find the sages at the MR HQ.

For the Keep Fit badge, dancing takes forever. I prefer the swings.
This time, however, I'd created a Summer Solstice holiday and had the twins "swim around" until completing the Water Fun tradition (or whatever that's called).
It felt like they earned Keep Fit points and Motor skill much faster than with swinging.

My Sulani house has the least landscaping of any P10 house so far; it could look lusher. I achieved 5k in landscaping by only using the Island Living hedges. Hah!
Oh yeah, there are a few palm trees, too. Maybe I'll do up the front yard now that the kids don't need the playground stuff.

I'm not planning on using any retraiting potions for this dynasty. We're good with maxing fitness.
My spreadsheet has a list with all 10 of my dynasty's careers and their skill requirements. The last 3 heirs won't be choosing a career requiring Fitness 10. :)
I wanted Keanu to be a party animal (not the aspiration) with his Dancing Machine trait and DJ Mixing, but we don't leave the home lot enough, LOL!

Thank you for reading, @LenaLJ !
I'd initially planned to finish this dynasty by the end of 2019, but now I doubt whether I'll even be finished by late January.
Still having a blast, though!
I have a personal rule for my P10: my dynasty sims can only travel to towns where previous dynasty households lived plus the town of the next heir.
The only exceptions are Magnolia Promenade (fishing) and Sulani (odd jobs).
The Fill Empty House feature still isn't working in my game (my simverse has only 1-2 occupied houses), but I only need to edit a few community lots whenever an heir moves out.
So, about Glimmberbrook, yes. I only bought and installed that pack after my current heir moved out but before he entered Live mode.
I wish I could have waited longer. By the time Biana moves to Glimmerbrook, it will probably be a ghost town. :(
Didn't the devs release patch notes this autumn that claimed Fill Empty Houses now works as intended?

Hmmm, interested to see how things develop (or not) with a certain teenage spellcaster.
Jaida is a cutie.  I know Bianca is getting all sorts of spotlight, as the heir should, but it needs to be mentioned that the spare is adorable!
It's been fun watching the time in Hawai'i Sulani, but I'm definitely excited to see where the family heads next!

@PeregrineTook
The Pries heirs have a habit of changing their minds about who they will marry at the last minute, so Bianca is still "window shopping."
Haha, Jaida and Bianca are identical twins with different hairstyles.
Sulani has become my favorite place to live though I would perhaps choose a different lot (Admiral Wreckage?). Still so much I have yet to learn about Sulani and Island Living.
On the other hand, like you, I am eager for Bianca's YA birthday, her move, the new house, her choice of spouse, and all that.
Sadly, future heirs will all be living on 30x20 lots. *sniffle, sniffle

Power of 10 - 7.37: Mocha's Musings (21 Dec update)
« Reply #247 on: December 21, 2019, 12:10:06 PM »
7.37:  Mocha's Musings

Saturday, Week 39

Mocha: Howdy! Best Narrator here!
Of course, I'm not snoozing on the bathroom floor!
I just have a mild (catnip) buzz on, if you know what I mean.

Ain't gonna lie. We're just killing time until the twins' teen birthday.

Check me out! Don't I resemble one of those Japanese "beckoning cats"?
The little statue is placed in shops and restaurants to beckon good luck.
And you know that's me all over:  Mr. Bring On the Lucky!

The morning starts out with Keanu's Grandpa Rafael dying.
Keanu pleads with Grim and offers a death flower.
But Grim just stands there for the longest time with his back turned.

Then, Grim suddenly turns and raises his arms, resurrecting Rafael.
I swear, that Grim just loves basking in the spotlight.
He's such an attention hog!

Keanu gets a big surprise when he goes to zap Freddy with a Scrubaroo spell.
He can actually ask Freddy for magical training. Wow!

Bianca still isn't sold on the idea of a jealous spouse.
But Freddy looks awesome when he's casting spells.
If only he'd get Cat Lover as his third trait…

Keanu's looking pretty good, too, with his new wand.
But doesn't he have more important things to do?
Like cleaning up Mua Pel'am and throwing four more parties?

Sunday, Week 40

Mocha: Everyone's always talking about what Bianca wants, but what about you, Freddy?
Freddy: Thanks for asking, Mocha. There are 3 things I really desire.
A family and home of my own, that's two, and to become a powerful warlock.
Mocha: So you're looking to get married, huh?
Freddy: More than anything else, Mocha, but everyone's afraid of my jealousy.
I just need to feel secure about being loved, y'know?

Mocha: Dismal turnout at Guys Night at Elixirs & Brews..
Seems like all the guys who show up at this Glimmerbrook bar are spellcasters.
But Keanu can only request magical training from Simeon and Freddy.
So, I wonder if visiting this bar spawns spellcasters.

Thanks to Freddy and Simeon (but mostly Freddy), Keanu's an Adept now.
He makes a quick shopping trip to Casters Alley to buy tomes.

Oops, he bought some tomes for spells too advanced for him to learn.
Oh well, maybe the tomes will benefit Bianca.

On Monday, Keanu goes around cleaning up Mua Pel'am as usual.
While beachcombing for trash, he finds a Heart of Sulani worth $1,200.

I guess he'll be updating the value of his collection until the very last day.
His collection is complete, but he'll continue to swap in higher-value items.
That's totally legit, right?

Even more important, we're notified that Mua Pel'am has been fully restored!
Everyone's so happy that Keanu could achieve that before Bianca moves.
That calls for a celebration for sure!

That same evening, Bianca's great-grandfather Rafael passes away.
Rafael's dearly beloved Seiji had died a few days ago, so we retrieve their urns.
Rest in peace, Rafael and Seiji!
I'll never forget that you were the first who adopted and loved me! *sniff, sniff

A Kava Party to celebrate the restoration of Mua Pel'am!
Carmen makes the first toast!

Adrian became a young adult this week; he's probably too old for Bianca.
But yesterday, we met a new teen named Carlos Manning.
He's a Music Lover like Bianca and a Child of the Ocean like Keanu.
Not bad, not bad.

Keanu's distraught from losing his World's Best Grandpas, Rafael and Seiji.
But he pulls it together to make a second toast.

Note that the bowler dude Jonathan is still a teen, while sage Simeon's an elder.
Hey, might the sages be grooming Freddy to replace Simeon!?

Of course, Keanu remains vigilant against filth and wrongdoing in Mua Pel'am.
Everyone's thrilled to spot sea turtles swimming near our back deck!

If not for that Beach Life aspiration, this family doesn't even need suntans!
Carmen forgets to apply sunblock and gets sunburnt.  Ouch!
Keanu finally manages to gets a tan but feels depressed that it took so long.
It literally took him until nightfall to get that tan!

The night of the twins' teen birthday party arrives at last!
Keanu throws them a party at the Salty Paws Saloon.
That Elixirs & Brews bar is much too bare and dreary.

Lately, Keanu's been dealing with a different two-day moodlet from honoring the islands.
How many different ones are there? Fortunately, he's done working or it would spoil his job performance.

Right, you're probably thinking: "Oh, another sim who loves the outdoors!"
Well, yes, but not for the reason you're imagining.
You see, Bianca's planning to become a green witch.
She'll learn spellcraft as well as herbal and medicinal arts.

Bianca ages up wearing an exceedingly unfortunate fashion combination (left).
Jaida ages up wearing Keanu's hairstyle and the Island Living make-up.
Hey, Kahlua! Your daughters are in dire need of an immediately makeover!

And while the twins get their makeovers….

Jonathan: I'm a creative perfectionist. What about you?
Carlos: Hey, those are excellent traits. I'm a music-loving child of the ocean.
Jonathan: Yours are great, too. Your traits match Bianca's the best, I bet.
Carlos: You think so? Oh, and I noticed that you're a teen like me!

Adrian (whispers): So, I'm a paranoid, vegetarian bookworm.
And I'm a young adult already.  My traits completely suck, right?
Freddy: Eh, I'm neat and jealous. Our traits hardly matter, Adrian.
You and I, we're way better looking than those other two! And we have better hair!

Mocha:  I know Keanu invited all four guys but how did they end up sitting out back together?
Are they comparing notes or something?

Anyway, that's Bianca on the left in green, and Jaida on the right.
Keanu struggles to make a birthday toast as usual, but the party finally ends.

Back home, the twins get ready for their two weeks as teenagers.
Since it's Friday morning, they've signed up for Manual Labor jobs.

Next time, Bianca will probably be taking over as narrator.
So, let's you and I meet again after she moves to her new home with whoever.

Keanu's move-out requirements: 9/10
✔️ 1. Unique career: Marine Biologist 10 (Master of Marine Affairs)

Watcher's Remarks
*I realize that all this Island Living stuff is old hat to everyone.
But I took an 8-month simming break until mid-August, so this is my  first time playing Sulani. :)
*I'm worried as heck that my sims will miss seeing the baby turtles hatching.
Maybe the twins should take Retail jobs instead.

Island Living isn't old hat for me! I've not yet fully restored Mua Pel'am, so you're in fact ahead of me. It's such a beautiful world, I just wish we didn't have to choose between beachfront property or basement levels. The turtles swimming at the back of Key Point is motivation. I want that. :)

The spouse hunting has become an audition! I like Adrian for his hair, but not for his traits. Carlos is a bit pale. He'd need a tan. Is he narrow? He looks rather narrow. Bianca must have first choice, and I'm really looking forward to whatever children she has. Leaving Sulani will be hard though.

It is a little thing of my own. I call it "Heart Foam". I shall not publish it. Farewell! Patience, Patience, farewell!

The girls are so pretty that they even looked lovely before you saved them with your makeovers  ;=)
I always enjoy having those moments when Mocha narrates.  I so rarely use pets.  Maybe I should do a pet generation in my Po10?
The guys out back comparing notes was priceless!!  And Freddy's perspective that looks and hair matter more than traits was so delightfully accurate!!  Loved it!
Can't wait to have Bianca take over the narration and see the next developments for the household!

@Heart Foam
I was also sad about the lack of basements but, I agree that Sulani is such a beautiful world. This is probably the smallest house in terms of non-patio floor space.
Yes, Carlos is very pretty but very thin. Actually, Freddy was, too, but when I gave him a closet makeover, I pulled his shoulders out a bit. That can happen without the cas.fulleditmode cheat.
Btw, I laugh at how easy you make the Beach Life aspiration look.
I finally gave up trying to get Keanu and Carmen to doze off on loungers. Totally forgot that they have the Never Weary trait. Duh.

@PeregrineTook
I struggle with pets--I can't stand to let them die so, like my 10-Gen Townie  dynasty's dog, they get age-down treats and live throughout the dynasty.
Thank you for your moral support, Pippin! I think I just might get Bianca moved out in 2019!

7, 38: Snack-less in Sulani?

Friday, Week 40

Bianca: It's nice to have a three-day weekend to start our teen phase.
We're seeing more sea turtles lately.
Jaida and I switched jobs to work nights in case the baby turtles hatch this weekend.

I max the retail job in one evening, but Jaida will need an extra night.
No biggie. We have more than enough time…14 days in fact!

I've encountered a slight hitch in my plans to become a green witch.
Great-Grandpa Rafael already claimed Herbalism as his unique skill!
It's fine, though. I know exactly what I want to do instead.

My biggest problem at the moment is the dearth of snacks in our simverse.
I'm talking about good-looking spouse material.
You hear what I'm saying? We're in need of snacks here!

Carlos (left) looks like a snack but he's a bit of a bore.
His only merit is that he can summon elementals.

Jonathan's traits might be perfect if my collection was gonna be paintings.
But that's changed. Plus, he's a young adult with the Goofball trait.

Check out his dance moves. Seriously, would you pick him?

On the other hand, I love the way that Freddy's so into me!

And whenever my fun drops, Freddy's always ready and eager to help out.
Well, yes, of course, he's my boyfriend now.
But I'm not 100% sure that he's The One….

Sunday, Week 41

I take Freddy with me to the Magical Realm for the second evening in a row.
While I'm searching for Sage Morgyn, I discover Freddy dueling.
Let's be honest here. Is he or is he not the hottest warlock around?

I manage to befriend Simeon and become good friends with Morgyn.
Also, I've raised my rank to Neophyte.
Maybe now I can finally read some of the tomes Papa bought me last week.

Monday's our first day of high school.
As soon as we leave home, naturally, we get the notice we've all been awaiting.
Jaida and I leave school immediately then I phone Freddy to do the same.

Arriving at the Admiral Wreckage, we see the beach entrance is all gussied up!

Oh my! Baby turtles are hatching then waddling out to sea!

Go, baby sea turtles, go!

My parents, Jaida, and I are the first to arrive.
Soon, the beach is crowded with the baby sea turtles' well-wishers.

Freddy looks mesmerized by the sight of the little sea creatures.
Mocha, not so much.

Since Jaida and I don't work tonight, Papa throws his last two parties.
Tonight's the first time I'm ever hosting a party! It's a Spooky Party!
Distracted by chatty Adrian, Jaida takes forever to finish her pumpkin.

Next, Papa and I throw a Black & White Bash.
As a test, I play Don't Wake the Llama with Carlos, Adrian, and Jonathan.
Freddy has no problem with that.
In fact, he's sitting nearby and chatting with the guys. Yay!

On Tuesday, Jaida and I earn A's for our first day of high school.
I come home tense, so I place a portable shower on the porch then phone Freddy.

Oh! He's a young adult now! No shower woohoo for yours truly today. *sighs
I run off to dance for a half hour before work.
Watcher: It wouldn't have worked anyway since we don't have Discover Universiy, LOL!

I can live with Freddy's Foodie trait. I'm keeping him!

That night, I max my Fast Food job but come home feeling a bit demoralized.
I change my clothes and head to house when…
Awwww, look who's come out to greet me! I love you, Mocha!

Wednesday night, Papa declares his collection of Buried Treasures finished.
He doesn't feel like trying to increase its value any further.
Its total value comes to $10,120.

It's Thursday after school and only another week until Jaida and I become young adults.
While Freddy gives me magical training, I'm calling this update a wrap.

Watcher's Remarks
*Bianca was all ready for a quick shower woohoo before work, then we realized it's only available with the Discover University pack. Devious marketing!
*I can't say how the start of baby turtle hatching season is timed.
But in the case of this household, it started at 8 am exactly 7 days after Mua  Pel'am was fully restored.
The event was over before 2 p.m.

I think we all knew Freddy was the right choice  ;=)  I mean, it's all about the genetics, right?  And he happens to also be an accomplished wizard?  That's just bonus!  Although, a generation of watching Jonathon's bad dance moves would have been comic gold  ;=)
Looking forward to Bianca's adventures and Mocha's thoughts on their new town!!

Haha, that screenshot of Jonathan dancing the Egyptian was just for you, Pippin!
Although I'm shocked that you didn't mention the baby sea turtles at all.
I was so stoked that my Sulani sims got to see the hatching event.
Apparently, the event apparently doesn't work unless the sim who sees the notice is currently in Sulani or something like that.

Wow, you've been really busy. I still admire your dedication to having your Sims be such high achievers. I had a REALLY hard time getting back into the dynasty after not playing for 2 months, but I've forced myslef to play yesterday and today and have made good progress. Anyway, this is supposed to be about you! HAHA. It looks like we've done a lot of the same things on Sulani, but that's okay. There's bound to be overlap. I promise I didn't copy, though. I waited until my heir moved out before looking at Keanu's progress. I'm looking forward to your time playing in Glimmerbrook.

By the way, regarding Fill Empty Homes, just before my heir was ready to move out, 2 elders moved into empty homes in Sulani. Thanks for nothing, game! So maybe it does sort of work but takes forever? A day spent at Desert Bloom Park also caused 4 or 5 houses to be filled in Oasis Springs. Craig bought me both Realm of Magic and Discover University for Christmas. I was going to install them when I was ready. Imagine my surprise when I opened my game only to find that Origin had auto-installed both packs. Grrr.
